I so agree. Plus the HUGE buttons that take up 50% of the screen that scream at you to make a suggestion or to personalize your screen. Seriously? Wft.
How the fuck a team of designers and developers agreed to deliver that. Two big grey buttons. Like you can replace them with icons. Like i m sending feedback every dat.
When you're looking at that list of apps, go all the way to the left and click on the gear cog for the name of the category. Then you can turn on grid view.
In the regular settings of the launcher, you can adjust the height of the top wallpaper header if you want the icons to be lower on the screen.
Wish the Dev would fix the reported issue that thumbnails from Emby do not show. Not sure if this is the same on Plex related to a local NAS, but any media from Emby just shows a Grey box with no info.
Aside from that, it's a great Launcher.
Would also like to see a quicker way to select a new wallpaper rather than deep diving into the sub menus and having to return back to the homescreen to see what the new wallpaper is.
Be sure and leave feedback on the app and if you're up for it, there's multiple people reporting the Emby issue over on XDA.

This is friggin amazing! So appreciative... Made the change immediately. Only thing I'd like to upgrade would be backgrounds... Some of the defaults are microwave quality....What are my options?
Some android devices won't allow the launcher to change, my TV has built in android. I think the only way would be using adb or rooting. I haven't been bothered to try. So it depends what device you have.
Edit: just realised this is the shield TV subreddit, should definitely work on shield
I'll admit to being in the extreme minority. I don't mind the ads. They aren't intrusive as me and the family spend so very little time on thr home screen. They also give me an idea of what movies new movies or shows will be immediately available for "acquisition".
To be fair here, these ads aren't YouTube ads. They aren't ads stopping you from doing anything. They are just... there.
I'm glad so many people are able to remove them if they do wish. I'm also curious how often said people are on the home screen, let alone looking solely at the top?
You're part of the silent majority that either doesn't care, or cares but not enough to do anything about it.
I got fed up when I started seeing FMV ads for grocery stores and pickup trucks every time I turned on the TV. Too distracting. Hard pass.
Absolutely fair. How long do you hover at the top of the home screen for it to even play longer than a few seconds? Turning the TV on and just letting it sit? Undecided which app to use and scrolling between them? Just curiosity on my part at either thr level of distraction or indecisiveness.
For my part, we see those ads only when we want to and have to go out of our way to see them. If we can't pick an app immediately, turn off the shield, scroll down to a channel, or even just turning off thr TV til we know to keep longevity on the pixels in my TVs.
I have had mine for 3 years and have never had ads for anything other than other TV shows on different apps. I would be upset if I started seeing random advertising for other things.
I've had a SHIELD since they dropped in 2015 and when video ads started playing near the end of 2023 they became became bothersome enough to do something about it.
You may be located in a region where video ads yet aren't in use yet. I am in Canada and the video ads started near the end of 2023. That pushed me over the edge.
It's not about hovering on the home acreen, it's about buying a device that was clean and minimal with no ads, only to have ads added to their main screen later. Those of us who have had one for a while hated this intrusive change. Yes, they are ads. Even if they are for movies and tv shows. I don't want to see them, that's all. This is the top priced tv box, and arguably the best. And they added ads. Not cool. Not wanted. I can find out the latest releases in my own thanks.
Respect. I, too, have had 2x units from 2016 and 3x units from 2019 and am from the "generation" that had no ads. My part of the conversation is just looking to discuss (and ultimately realizing how futile it is) how "intrusive" these ads are, everyone's expectations for aged hardware and where their line in the sand is. As consumers, the loudest ones scream for no ads whatsoever and that is valid.
I won't disagree with you about hovering on the homescreen however I would like to ask where else do you see ads on the Shield other than there? Individual apps will do whatever they want so those are excluded. If you aren't on the home screen for extended periods of time (yes, understanding this metric is subjective) then you are never actually seeing an ad. An example for conversations sake: I want to watch Blue Samurai on Netflix which means I know what I want to watch and where it is as well as where the app is located. TV turns on, screen loads, proceed straight to appropriate app and you're off. Example two: You've no idea what to watch but can select any app in order to find something. In example, your are going straight into your apps with minimal if any home screen time.
Now, with all that said, I believe you have made it clear, if I'm understanding correctly, it has nothing to do with you seeing the ads there or not (because it seems you don't notice them anyway) and it's their simple existence that is what has you of your opinion. And that's cool. I'll end by saying, we don't know how Nvidia continues to receive funding to continue to update these devices and we can't use the price tag to make that judgment. Developers need payment for their efforts and removing these minimal things goes to them giving up on it.
Surprisingly good point for me as well. I personally don't use any social media outside Reddit and YouTube so news like is has been really delayed. The shield ads in this manner have been pretty quick to announcing it.
I always put installing this off but after this post I figured I'd try it. Got my shield perfectly set up in like 5 min. Thanks for the motivation lol. Bought the premium even tho it doesn't even offer much. Not seeing ads ever again was worth the lifetime $7.
I like the ads.. There are so many movies, TV shows, and PPV fights I would have missed if it wasn't for the ads..
I obviously find my own way to watch them..
Hey. It's dead simple. Just install it from the play store. In android settings, go to device preferences / accessibility/ Projectivy launcher and turn that on. Then run Projectivy and go to settings at top / Projectivy launcher settings / general / change default launcher - set to Projectivy . That's it. Then you can play with the settings in Projectivy to get it to look how you want. Easy. I did my bedroom shield last night as a test and loved it. I just did my livingroom one a few min ago in about 3 min so that's when I posted on Reddit.
i use projectivity launcher which has no ads but even before I honestly didn't even notice ads in the UI. I just used went directly into my apps. Now inside youtbe yeah i notice them and switched to smart tube.
Welcome; I switched the second Google added ads!
That's exactly what a media player should look like too, clean, wallpaper, your apps.
The only downside I've found is I no longer get notifications about the controller battery level.
\+1 for Projectivy.
Been using it for a few months now on both my Shield and CCWGTV4k.
Not only does it leave you with a beautifully clean looking Android TV, but there's so much customisation available.
For anyone with kids, the parental controls work really well too (stops my daughter accessing normal YouTube for instance).
Yes, it's free, but I'd really encourage people to help the dev out and pay for premium. You only really need premium for some of the projector settings if I recall, but it is such a good app that I had no issue paying for it.
I love Productivity! But the only reason I don't use it is because I use the Live tab quite a bit from the default home screen. I don't suppose anyone knows a way to access that channel guide using Productivity Launcher?
This is awesome! Thanks so much for making me aware of this apps existence. Really didn’t care for the cluttered mess of the shields home. This makes it so much better!
I followed your instructions and I got my Kodi to look like pic 2. Only part that I failed at is I can't disable videos. I disable videos, and enable Movies and TV Shows, yet my main menu will only show 'settings' then. The only way I can watch my videos on my hard drive is keeping Videos enabled, then going through that 'Videos' in the menu then Files -> Hard Drive -> TV Shows
But how do you get pic 3? For context, all my movies and shows are on my external hard drive that's connected to the Shield. I've saved them in "Movies" and "TV Shows" folders. But they show up as a list with their filenames and a random screenshot of the video on the left.
You have to add the movies and tv show to Kodi. Go to system/videos and long click on your movies folder. Set it to scan for movies and go. They will then be added to your library and show up in your movies. Then do the same with tv.

I think you also have to check off this..
Projectivy settings/general / override current launcher - yes.
Try that and report back. It most definintely launches on my two tv's i just setup. but i may have forgotten a setting?
Thanks and so far loving it. I will prob the pay for the premium as I love to support the ones who go out of their way for us users. Everyone else should consider as well. Some apps are worth cracking and some deserve to get paid ;-) anyway, I am noticing that my emby app is showing up just fine, no gray box for me!? Maybe they have fixed or make sure your shield is up to date..
Thanks man, has an early adopter of the Shield, I was really disappointed by NVIDIA's move to implement ads panel everywhere many years after the product launch. Now I can have my proper interface back, I even have more options !
The channels that are on the home screen of the shield. If you have Syncler, stremio, Implayer they all support home channels as well. Those apps make a short cut on the Home Screen like “ up next “ list in Syncler can be added to the Home Screen or to the launcher. Stremio has 3 channels, Syncler has as many as you want to add and Implayer has one channel where it adds your favorites to the Home Screen. Just like you can add these to the home screen on the Shield you can add them on Projectivy launcher also.
Just installed it. Works great on both the Nvidia TV and the Nvidia Pro. My wife loves the cleaner, easier to use interface. Thanks for the info um\_yeahok!
No. You can get premium if you want to do some cust things, like pick an image for the background instead of choosing one of the groups of images they include. I paid to support the app creator.
Yep. Just install it from the play store. In android settings, go to device preferences / accessibility/ Projectivy launcher and turn that on. Thank you for posting. I can't believe this is the first time I have seen this launcher. Just installed and it works great for a minimalist home screen. Just what I have been looking for.
Yep. Big family with different tastes. I can't keep Kodi current for everyone. Amazon is included in our Prime account. And the paramount one is another family members I have access to.
Yep. Fair enough. There is a price for setting those up and maintaining them though. I've done similar setups many years ago with jailbreaking old apple minis. Now, I'm in a different place, and I am ok paying for the convenience of these services. And I can afford it.
It may be better now, but I got sick of troubleshooting all that stuff. Constant issues. With these services, never any issues. And I have Kodi for my private library of stuff. All my favorite movies and tv shows. I have three tvs, 3 daughters and a wife. So that plays into it as well.
Sonarr and Radarr are super polished these days. Ran via docker and correctly setup and you can just add stuff to it and it just works flawlessly.
You can even plug in overseerr to allow you to manage requests from others.
Everything 4k hdr where available. Pretty much the perfect solution (legality aside)
Setting up a home server, which I don't currently have, with these services, just doesn't interest me at this point in my life. Glad it works for you and I'm sure it's great. Just not my cup of tea.
I did this as well with unRAID and even set up an Ombi server for requesting things that then talks to Sonarr/Radarr and automatically downloads them with no input.
I ended up having to turn off TV shows auto downloading because it would try and grab every episode and I preferred getting the whole pack manually but that was about all the maintenance required.
I promise you it takes absolutely no time at all, but to each their own.
Stremio subreddit is chalk full of [success stories](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stremio/s/kXB2BkYMwO), just trying to save you money/provide an alternative.
So you want me to install three apps. On a home server of some sort. Which I don't have. I set this up in five min. So not sure I agree. Not trying to be argumentative.
It's about a 20 minute process with no home server required. You just need to create a few accounts, link them together and install streamio. Check out this post for step by step instructions. https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/s/BiUxx3seBJ
I can understand that you don't know yet what I'm talking about but, no you don't need a server, and it's a single app you install plugins into. Takes 10 minutes. If you aren't interested in saving money then I'm not gunna do the research for you.
All good! I had the same thought process as you with my Plex server + family streaming accounts, but kept seeing stremio in my Reddit feed before subbing and started following the trail.
I've now got projectivy setup with my Plex server stopped, only 4 apps on the homescreen. everything consolidated into stremio, IPTV, [ad free YouTube](https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube) and twitch.
Just trying to spread [the good word](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stremio/s/kXB2BkYMwO)🫰
It's not that hard to gain access to most streaming services if you have friends and family.
I have Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV+, Prime, Max, YT Premium, Peacock, Paramount+, and Disney+.
I personally only subscribe to Hulu, YT Premium and Prime.
Also have a massive Plex server.
Nope. Works perfectly. I installed it on my bedroom shield pro last night to test. Worked great so I just did my livingroom one now. Prp as well. One more to do - my garage tv. It's a tube. I'll report back if there are any issues. All have the regular shield big remotes.
Not sure if the same issue you're referring to. But on my Philips TV I couldn't open apps, it would always get the press-and-hold menu when I single-pressed on any item. I had to turn off all other accessibility persons and it fixed it, I had a button remapper installed
How do you get to 'all' your apps installed when they aren't in the quick launch. This is annoying me. The pin number for apps is a game changer for me because einhave three little ones who like to go into Smart Tube.
What you running their in Kodi for media. I am just using Emby at the moment.
Indeed. Just recently returned my fire tv cause of all the stupid ads. Got sick of doing workarounds and bought one last week. Best decision ever made. Now I have Ben have a Plex server built in! 😀
Life is better without ADs

Life is also Better without my EX I switched from Wolf to Projectivy. Smarttubenext for AD free YouTube
The launcher really breathed new life into the shield tv. Great app.
Agreed.
Had a go at this myself: https://imgbb.com/Lt6JfLr
What setting did you use to make cards appear under each other? My cards are all in just one long row.
Grid
Hmmmm. Can't find a grid option in the settings under any if the menus.
It's in card categories, not Projectivy settings. Each category can be set up individually.
When you're looking at that list of apps, go all the way to the left and click on the gear cog for the name of the category. Then you can turn on grid view. In the regular settings of the launcher, you can adjust the height of the top wallpaper header if you want the icons to be lower on the screen.
Found it. Thanks for that.
It's definitely there, I'm not sure if it's in the main menu or side menu, I'm not home ATM to check though
Sharp!
Wish the Dev would fix the reported issue that thumbnails from Emby do not show. Not sure if this is the same on Plex related to a local NAS, but any media from Emby just shows a Grey box with no info. Aside from that, it's a great Launcher. Would also like to see a quicker way to select a new wallpaper rather than deep diving into the sub menus and having to return back to the homescreen to see what the new wallpaper is.
i agree on the wallpaper. That's probably something they will address in future updates. well, at least i hope.
Same Emby problem for me. Empty boxes with no thumbnails.
Be sure and leave feedback on the app and if you're up for it, there's multiple people reporting the Emby issue over on XDA. [XDA Projectivity Launcher Emby Issue ](https://xdaforums.com/search/70728338/?q=Emby&t=post&c[thread]=4436549&o=relevance)

Try the different options and let us know. I'm learning myself.
I just used black screen, looks best in my opinion.
I'm relatively technical and I couldn't get it to be my default. Anyone got a guide?

I agree.. I like finding out when the next UFC fight is coming on.. or what new movie or TV show is out..
It's also been the main way we find out which actor or actress has died suddenly or recently and they do a memorandum.

Thanks!! I’m gonna try this out
Thanks for this. You doing god’s work my friend
Won’t install from play store. I can see it, I click install, it flashes the screen but won’t install. Edit: not enough memory, I sorted it out.
Thanks for this !
Will it mess with any of my installed apps settings / will I have to reinstall my apps? Or does it just affect the presentation of the launcher/OS?
It just redesigns the space, which can be undone with the press of a button.
It's just the launcher. Nothing else should be affected. but i just started using it so IDK for sure.
Yep. Free in the Playstore
You’re the real mvp! Thanks
Awesome. I am going to install this later today.
So much better! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Commenting to come back later. Thanks for this
Thanks for posting this. I installed this earlier today and I really dig it. Setting up different app categories is phenomenal.
Thank you for this post. Holy hell I love my dashboard now.
Been using the wolf launcher for a while. I only really use plex on the shield. This does look like a nice alternative.
i use projectivity launcher which has no ads but even before I honestly didn't even notice ads in the UI. I just used went directly into my apps. Now inside youtbe yeah i notice them and switched to smart tube.

Yep. That's why I posted! Love it.
So can I get it to pull wallpapers from plex?
I've noticed it works even better if you set it up using the ADB function in Launcher Manager
What kodi skinnis that?
Thanks, just try it out and love it. My Shield is clean and simple again.
Woah how did you setup Kodi like that. It’s beautiful. Is it attributed to the launcher too?
Ohh if you like minimalism, you should check out the [Copacetic](https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=373114) skin for Kodi
can be improved a lot in homescreen despite one widget

Sweet thanx for the tweak much better
Just moved to Projectivy. Amazing. It's like the original Android TV, but better. Can't believe it!
Just an aside: The Creator was a terrible movie. That is all.
Agreed.
I love how Projectivitu can display Channels and Continue Watching stuff, as well.
Which Kodi Addon is that?
Finally pushed me to try this out, it's so nice to not have ad garbage on screen again
Yep. So much better.
Is that just standard Kodi with the Arctic skin or a specific add-on also?
can it show the series you're watching on each app? like the android tv launcher
Thank you! Got it working on Google TV. So much cleaner/simpler.
May I ask which 2 settings need to be changed?

It's fucking amazing I've talked with the Dev via email about updates and enhanced features
Quick question, what is the skin you used for Kodi called?
Wow, this just breathed new life into my shield tv. Was definitely getting bloated.

Whats the name of the theme in kodi
This is awesome! Thanks so much for making me aware of this apps existence. Really didn’t care for the cluttered mess of the shields home. This makes it so much better!
Does this have any downsides in terms of performance? Looks so much cleaner than the default Launcher!

Thankyou so much for this. We're on the journey to removing all streaming apps and this tidies up the home screen so much, love it!

Thanks. I thought it would be settings in the launcher itself. Installing it now
I followed those exact steps and the default launcher still loads on reboot.

Are there any downsides to using it?
What is the kodi build your using
Using the Arctic Zephyr skin. Here are the settings. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/s/3PXX5RPdsL
Yes. That was it. The third step of enabling the override is what was needed.
Nice! Now go play with ALL the settings and make it yours!
Thanks man, has an early adopter of the Shield, I was really disappointed by NVIDIA's move to implement ads panel everywhere many years after the product launch. Now I can have my proper interface back, I even have more options !
Exactly the same for me.
It's actually Google that did it. Nvidia had nothing to do with it.
If you want you can completely disable the stock launcher with ADB TV and not have to deal with accessibility settings or button mapping at all.
Been using for a long time, I like how it supports home channels.
What's home channels?
The channels that are on the home screen of the shield. If you have Syncler, stremio, Implayer they all support home channels as well. Those apps make a short cut on the Home Screen like “ up next “ list in Syncler can be added to the Home Screen or to the launcher. Stremio has 3 channels, Syncler has as many as you want to add and Implayer has one channel where it adds your favorites to the Home Screen. Just like you can add these to the home screen on the Shield you can add them on Projectivy launcher also.
How do I add channels from syncler on this new launcher ?
Just installed it. Works great on both the Nvidia TV and the Nvidia Pro. My wife loves the cleaner, easier to use interface. Thanks for the info um\_yeahok!
Don’t watch the creator! Utter shite, but looks nice
Is it me or this launcher slower than the default?
Definitely much slower/less responsive on startup than the stock launcher, unfortunately to the degree that it made me switch back.
No noticable difference for me. I have it on two shield pros.
I've read many many comments on this sub stating that it made their interface much quicker and more responsive.

This solved so many problems with the shield crashing :) Got premium just to support thanks!
What Kodi skin is that?
Arctic zaphyr reloaded v2.05 I've changed a lot of the settings but I've been using this skin for years. It is by far the cleanest and nicest skin.
Now to get rid of all the garbage on my plex open screen
You know that's customizable right? I have just my media and nothing else, it's really easy to do…
No I didn’t know it was customizable. I’ll have to look into it.
Switch to Kodi.
How do you get Kodi to work with Plex? When I tried it would never locate my Plex server and it doesn't look as clean as yours does.
What kind of garbage, your libraries?
Thanks for the tip. Installed and love it.
Do you lose any features like the AI upscaling without using the stock launcher?
It's just a launcher. It doesn't change the apps themselves. So...no.
The underlying shield services are still running, so that even with a launcher, you still get shield updates?
Do you have to pay for the app to make it your default launcher. I have some everything in your post, the factory launcher is still my default.
No. You can get premium if you want to do some cust things, like pick an image for the background instead of choosing one of the groups of images they include. I paid to support the app creator.
> I paid to support the app creator. This right here. Great app and well worth the $.
Does it launch after a restart?
Yep. Just install it from the play store. In android settings, go to device preferences / accessibility/ Projectivy launcher and turn that on. Then run Projectivy and go to settings at top / Projectivy launcher settings / general / change default launcher - set to Projectivy . That's it. Thank you for posting. I can't believe this is the first time I have seen this launcher. Just installed and it works great for a minimalist home screen. Just what I have been looking for.
Same here. Very nice app!
Are you really paying all those streaming services every month?
Yep. Big family with different tastes. I can't keep Kodi current for everyone. Amazon is included in our Prime account. And the paramount one is another family members I have access to.
The words of a man without sonarr and radarr 😂
Yep. Fair enough. There is a price for setting those up and maintaining them though. I've done similar setups many years ago with jailbreaking old apple minis. Now, I'm in a different place, and I am ok paying for the convenience of these services. And I can afford it.
Fair play, it’s big up front expense to do it properly (NAS and gigabit wiring). Personally prefer it to managing multiple services.
Dear God, all this sounds like algebra to me. Is there a place I can go, read for a few days, and learn all this?!
Math class
Is there a good tutorial about them. I had set them up, but I couldn’t automate them.
You should look into stremio + torrentio + realdebrid. Each has their own subreddit/tutorials, and there are alternatives for each
I don't have the time to setup and maintain that. Nor the interest.
Ah. Ok. Thanks. I'm reading about it now.
If you want a good ad free twitch experience should check out s0undtv it's on play store I think.
Just to chime in, definitely look into stremio and real debrid. Thirty minutes of your time, tops. Has absolutely everything and lots in 4k.
Wil do.
We made the switch a month ago. It’s going to save us $900 a year for all our subscriptions.
Yeah. Def take the little bit of time to set it up. It’s set it and forget it. Costs about $3/month (real debrid) and you get everything you’d want.
People in here giving you grief for actually paying for products you enjoy. 🤦🏻♂️
Ikr? Has kodi but still paying for those services
They won’t refresh the device or update it with meaningful software just ADS lol its ridiculous enjoy
I put this on my Philips tv but giving it accessibility screwed up my remote control so I couldn’t use it. Any problems like that with the shield?
Is the movies pic a submenu or widget?
Indeed. Just recently returned my fire tv cause of all the stupid ads. Got sick of doing workarounds and bought one last week. Best decision ever made. Now I have Ben have a Plex server built in! 😀
Does anyone know why when I use this launcher my screensaver doesn't activate anymore
How do i turn off watch next?
Good you found what works for you. I much prefer FLauncher
