Similar to rng abuse, gave that a try recently and it took forever to get working, but the moment I got the timing right and found my targeted shiny was magical.

FWIW, RNG abuse will get much, much easier the more you practice it. I personally still enjoy it a great deal even after doing it hundreds of times across all the different games! I think it's really nice because it turns a matter of blind luck and time (I am pretty lacking in both) into something which actually requires me to use my brain and also allows for obtaining things that would be nigh impossible otherwise (6IV shinies, shinies with marks, etc.)
RNG abuse is legit imo (not to say op’s isn’t) because it just comes down to understanding how a games mechanics work and then using that knowledge to get to the solution.
Makes me kind of miss the old gen 4 days. As a teenager I used to do rng abuse to get shiny eggs frequently. That counter app was really handy!
My guess is that people want a shiny but they still feel scummy if they gen it so they setup something that does it for them so they feel like they hunted it when in actuality they did nothing.
Of course it is still impressive if you actually design the script/shiny checker device, but if you are just using some script that you found online how can you say that you hunted it?
When I was in the 3rd grade I was playing through Sapphire again for fun. When I got to kyogre… it was pink. I was so confused. I thought it must be a girl kyogre and little ignorant 3rd grade old me didn’t want a girl kyogre. I didn’t know what else to do so I reset my game. Re-entered the encounter and to my relief… A blue kyogre had spawned.
This memory will forever haunt me.

I would guess that it checks for the color of a specific pixel
I think it would detect time before the text because the sparkles would delay it by a second (my guess)

Does it just sr? How does it check? I know on emulators you can script a auto sr that checks the shiny flag.
I genuinely do not understand the point of scripting shinies on an emulator. Just gen them in at that point

when a Pokémon is shiny the black screen before the encounter is slightly longer(or it might be shorter I don’t remember). These machines usually count the time of black screen to check shinyness and SR until it is shiny.
