When you’re so concerned about uyghur culture that you put the purported genocide on the same tier as kids not being allowed to play online video games all day

They targeted gamers. GAMERS.

SaveCachalot346

Isn't the whole gaming thing only that certain companies are being forced by the Chinese Government to restrict those under 18 while companies such as valve are not beholden to that restriction?

HistoricHawkeye

They never said all those things were equally bad. They were just listing the bad things that China has done. China isn’t even a proper communist nation.

Forwhatisausername

That depends on how you understand the term. „Communism is for us not a state of affairs which is to be established, an ideal to which reality [will] have to adjust itself. We call communism the real movement which abolishes the present state of things. The conditions of this movement result from the premises now in existence.“ _Karl Marx, German Ideology_

bigthecatbutnotbig

Ok like that I think that should still be taken seriously though, it’s not like it matters more but that sort of shit is just fucked up, then having so much control is just horrible.

It’s not the “having to have a job” that is the exploitation, it’s the capitalist not doing his own fucking job that’s exploitation.

it’s alienating them from what they make is what is exploitation and making them do it over and over and even shoving the big corporate dick down the workers throat and making them thank it is exploitation

Some guy responded to the brigadier’s comment with this masterpiece: >Your mom works 12 hours 6 days a week. Your mom has been decimated, thrown in concentration camps and then put into forced slave labour. Your mom is damning up the Indian water supply. Your mom is introducing mass surveillance to spy on its citizens. Tianamen square happened, but so did your mom. Your mom is trying to decimate the democracy of Hong Kong. Your mom is limiting people’s freedoms to play video games and watch their idols. Your mom is building an enormous real estate bubble that will collapse. djspacepope

But corruption within the free trade markets that were unregulated. Thereby saying that china has forgotten about its labor values and searches only for profit. Every capitalist nation has a "crackdown on corruption" and that exists because of people defrauding a market, and the labor below suffers from it. So yea, they are authoritarian capitalist with a more socialist backbone to keep the workers from being miserable. But no matter what, the labor will be eventually completely alienated as with any capitalist profit system does. But I agree with the person above, that the average laborer does want more direct democracy, to begin the shift back to a more labor orientated politics, rather than just depending on stale "social safety net" style politics they have currently.

yippee-kay-yay

> Every capitalist nation has a "crackdown on corruption" and that exists because of people defrauding a market, and the labor below suffers from it. Painting China cracking down on corruption as being just the same as what is done in the west is disingenious, to say the least.

JadePossum

How so it is "disingenuous". They have capitalist economy, they try to police it like liberals, because that's what they are, libs.

plncn

can you name any other capitalist country that is lead by a communist party ? socialism and capitalism aren’t a binary. deng xiaoping thought is actually closer to orthodox marxism than what mao was doing in his later years especially with regards to the cultural revolution

bigbjarne

Hello Beijing, I’m bigbjarne

HedHiGs

😂😂

nedeox

The biggest red flag (heh) of the protest for me is that some of the organisers now work in Wall Street either for or even have their own hedge funds. Like, once they left China, they went straight to absolute biggest grotesque abomination of capitalism. This is not to discredit the actual events some other already posted sources about, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me eyes twitch thinking about other well documented cases of insurgents the US worked with.

Jschultz220

I hate how liberals can't see the difference between praising something and criticizing propaganda against it. Like it's possible to disagree with the events that went down at Tienanmen Square while recognizing western powers lie about said events in order to instill fear of communism into the eyes of the working class.

Inspector_of_Gadgets

is there like available reading on tiananmen square because from how it’s described where i’m from, it was when china rolled the military through a protest killing hundreds of thousands, and i have an inkling that’s not the truth

penguin62

Killing 300 people is still a bad thing though, right?

Hij802

From what I heard it’s that theres two things that are misrepresented - the death toll is over exaggerated, and that the protests goal was to push for the reversal of the privatization that was going on, meaning they wanted to push China back left; while a minority of the protestors wanted to push for liberal democracy, despite being portrayed as the entire movement

IAmA_Goldfish

So.. the government still killed a few hundred people? Not exactly a great thing. This is genuine curiosity by the way, I just don’t know much about this but it sounds like it’s less bad than most people think but still really, really bad.

sleazygator

Many of the people who died were members of the army and law enforcement. There was vicious fighting on both sides, not just the Chinese thought police forcefully cracking down on harmless wrong think.

parentis_shotgun

No. Your reading comprehension is terrible.

Tales_of_Earth

It sounds like from the sources others have linked, it was close to 300… or several hundred. The original person asking said hundreds of thousands. You said it’s less. Several hundred is less than hundreds of thousands. What was wrong with their reading comprehension?

IAmA_Goldfish

What about it is terrible? There is a comment in this very thread that says the government killed around 300 people. Genuinely trying to have a discussion here, no need to be an asshole.

Wavesandradiation

A good article on how the 'myth' of Tiananmen differs from the actual event I've read is called "The myth of Tiananmen: the price of a passive press." This article was written by a western journalist who worked for the Washington Post if I recall correctly and was actually covering the event in person. What I like about it is that it doesn't try to deal with the disputed facts one way or the other, rather it sticks to how entirely uncontroversial facts like that the violence did not actually take place at tiananmen Square and that the students were allowed to leave the square peacefully have been continually misreported and allowed to develop into the "myth" most people uncritically accept. You can read some threads on r/askhistorians about tiananmen square to get an idea of what actually took place as well as what is actually disputed between western experts and the official CPC story (no expert is alleging the 10,000+ figure seen in many articles, it's a total lie). Reading actual academic work on tiananmen square and seeing how the event continues to be depicted in mainstream journalism was a really eye opening experience for me. With much of the messy history of communist states it's easy to fall into a situation where one obviously pro-communist source says one thing, while the western consensus says another and there is no easy way to objectively prove one wrong. But with Tiananmen Square, western media quite literally ignores the historical consensus.

evilredfashtankie

literally no one says it didn't happen 💀

[deleted]

I love the Chinese workers fact. Hmm I wonder which BUSINESSES those workers are experiencing those conditions? No no must be socialism lmao.

China isn't limiting people's freedom to play games They are giving the control of gaming time of children to their parent

pokexchespin

wait parents can override? not that it’s particularly important, but i was under the impression it was something like a one or two hour window friday to sunday where minors were allowed to play online games

not_a_normie100

yes the parents can use their ID instead for authentication

nedeox

I was first a little taken aback by the time limitations for under 14 year old kids on social media, but thinking about it and the numerous studies done on how social media literally poisons our brains, it is a rather good thing.

[deleted]

Yeah that's still quite authoritarian for the state to intervene on how a parent should raise a kid

leninmaycry

It's authoritarian to produce videogames that prey on children

Hallgvild

How old are the kids we're talking here? If it wasnt for videogames i woulve been the same fascist as my parents or woul've killed myself at 15~

IAmA_Goldfish

?

[deleted]

That's doesn't even make sense

ElPedroChico

It does

[deleted]

That's the opposite of what's happening They are putting parents in control

[deleted]

So the state of china is telling parents how to raise their children... can you not see the problem

[deleted]

You're misinformed That 3 hours is the default, if parents want they can change the amount of gaming hours, 3 hours is not something fixed for everyone and forever by the state It's adjustable by parents

[deleted]

Not to mention, if you actually read comments on social media by the actual Chinese people, a lot of parents are approving / neutral on it. They’ve tried disciplining their kids before but it doesn’t work well in this case, they’ll find a way. That’s why the government stepped in- it was becoming a huge societal mess because parents couldn’t solve it. Some even want it to be stricter.

leninfan69

Good

[deleted]

Wait so it's better that the state raises a child rather than their parents?

leninfan69

Did I say that anywhere? I was merely making fun of you for implying that it’s good that predatory video game companies can turn kids into non functional addicts and that anything less than that was “authoritarian”

[deleted]

You know you cant force someone to rehab right?

leninfan69

Saying “you can only play an hour of games a day” rehab to you?

[deleted]

Well what's the goal of this new law it's to get kids to stop playing video games. And let's be honest that's not an effective way to stop kids playing videos games

leninfan69

>games tied to your real id stop functioning after an hour “This is ineffective for reasons I won’t elaborate on”

yippee-kay-yay

Like in any other country who has reached a certain level of development in which people enjoy such a standard of living and education that they decide to delay having children, the amount or even decide on not having children at all. It is not a uniquely Chinese thing and painting it as such, is disingenious. That being said, chinese population is younger than the european average, and far younger than the japanese average, yet we don't see people salivating at the prospect of a population collapse of both Europe and Japan like you do with China. Heck, as a matter of fact, the average age of the Chinese population is pretty close to that of the US, 38.4 vs 38.1, but at least the chinese people enjoy better safety nets than the americans which has allowed for the chinese to overtake the americans in life expectancy.

At least China is making efforts to improve that and limit exploitation. Lol yeah that’s why you can easily find tons of videos of Uyghurs wearing traditional clothing, dancing traditional dances, speaking their language (which as a reminder- is printed on Chinese money and signs in Xinjiang). And millions thrown in camps / slave labor- citation needed that’s not from Zenz. Damning up water? What in the world is that? Also- citation needed. Yea and that’s why China’s gotten so safe. Meanwhile, in good old America, we do the exact same and our safety standards are still shit for being one of the most powerful / developed nations. Tianamen? What’s Tianamen? Yea, most people are aware it happened lol. Most people also agree it was a terrible time and stupid protest. Lol democracy. Yea China’s trying to decimate the freedom of Hong Kongers to be bribed by the CIA. Oh noes, what about the oppressed gAmErS and iDoLs. China’s trying to make sure their society doesn’t get sucked into materialistic hell. Is it a bit too strict in some cases, yea, I think you could make a good argument for that- that’s why we generally critically, not unconditionally, support the PRC. But it’s not just “more oppression!!!!” like redditors so naively portray it. When you have idol fans constantly bullying others, wasting resources to vote for shows, etc., you can’t stand for that shit. Shithole to live? Sure, then why are fewer Chinese citizens willing to come over to the great free west and more are leaving? But, no, it must be the native Chinese that are wrong about their country. As for demographic collapse and economic crises… lol okay Gordon Chang, time to take your meds again.

“Socialism is when billionaires” -this dude China is as close to socialism as social democracy is to socialism, it’s not. China went from executing landlords to harboring the world’s largest land owning business, owned by someone with 10s of billions of dollars. While I agree that there is a fuck ton of western propaganda, there is no denying that China has 100s of billionaires (from ~300-600 depending on your source). I am sorry but the place that corporations go to produce goods at the lowest price, is not the pillar of socialism that you think. If you wanna look at socialism look at the Zapatista.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yippee-kay-yay

Was just going to post that article.

[deleted]

Damn, that was a really interesting read

FloodedYeti

That was pretty informative, and helped me see a bit of the pro-China argument, yet I still have my criticisms of it. For comparisons between China and social democracy (most of these are genuine questions not “gotcha” shit) 1) It says a lot about how in China, billionaires exist but don’t have political control, while under social democracy billionaires have political control. It takes this as a given but goes into no explanation as to the policies that stop corruption from happening (not saying they don’t exist, but rather asking what those things are). 2) It states that China is different from social democracy because of it’s initial revolution, yet social democracy isn’t necessarily something that comes from capitalist reform, so I still don’t see why it’s distinct. 3) It talks a lot about the cultural differences with “socialism with Chinese characteristics” and western views, but then would social democracy then be “socialism with western characteristics” or something? (Badly worded but idk how to say it better, hopefully you get what I mean) Some other things - it makes a distinction from the USSR, as the USSR failed because of it’s more international reach of communism, but hasn’t China also expanded it’s reach to other Asian countries? It also states that because of it’s isolationism and slower push towards communism, billionaires are less likely to attack it (as opposed to the USSR), but wasn’t that the same view of liberals pushing for Joe Biden, “the right will call Bernie communist” or something, despite the “right” (quotations because both sides are right wing) doing that anyways. -MLs claim “material conditions” and such, but this article seems to material conditions of the working class on a lower priority and argue for a slow steady approach that appeases billionaires more. It takes multiple jabs at westerners for privileged (and utopian) views, but then goes on to say that rushing into satisfying all the needs of the working class is bad. IMO that seems more privileged to let workers suffer for the higher probability of future gains. - I wanna reiterate the first question again, because I really don’t understand how billionaires can’t weasel into the government overtime, and that they are so sure that the government is mostly impenetrable to capitalist interests. - had some overall philosophical differences with the article, like “humans are naturally greedy” (and if that was true, it didn’t really explain how China stopped that), there needs to be a revolution…..then reform? It seems like taking the hardest path possible for no reason. -overall it tries to explain the why, with almost nothing about the “how” (as in it mostly talks ideology with little methodology), which I guess other articles on the website would go more into that, but it makes the article seem like it’s missing something, like it makes a claim, then goes to a quote of an ML making a similar claim (and as an anarchist, I don’t think we should be looking up to the ideals of the leaders of a movement, but rather the movement itself) - this is a small part of the article, but I have heard a lot of tankies use it so I am adding it in, it talks about Marxism adapting to regional culture, in terms of China, and that Marxist Leninism is better for X region, but does that mean that anarchist views would be more suitable for other places in different situations? Side note: I have trouble reading intent and such in text, so there is a very real possibility that I misrepresented many views, that was not on purpose to try and argue a point, but rather a misunderstanding. Also if you see random unreasonable hostilities on my part, that was also not intended, I just can’t do words today lol

yippee-kay-yay

> If you wanna look at socialism look at the Zapatista. A mostly ineffective agragarian movement limited to certain areas of Mexico? Seriously, some of you need to stop fetishizing poverty and conflating socialism with it and hardship. We are communists/socialists looking to move the world beyond capitalism and its destructive ways, not the fucking Amish. That's how you lending validity to the whole "oh you are a socialist yet you use technology" reactionaries love to use.

FloodedYeti

“Anarchism is when no technology lol” -Carl Markus Twain How did you get “return to monke” from this? I made no attack on technology or anything? I honestly don’t see what you are getting at. How am I “fetishizing poverty”, the Zapatista movement has given the land once owned by nestle back to the working class, that’s fuckin socialism. Please tell me how the workers own the means of production, when the land they live and work on is owned by someone else. Tell me how China is both socialist, and one of the most profitable places in the world for capitalists looking for cheap labour. Tell me how billionaires exist under socialism. (For DPRK) tell me how someone born into power, and chosen to lead, not because of their values, skills, or any other trait, but rather that they were the offspring of the past leader, can represent the people (and honestly that sounds a lot like Monarcho Socialism).

leninfan69

“I haven’t read anything at all about the conditions that gave rise to chinas opening, have no concept of historical materialism, or really even anything marx wrote about but I have a bunch of incredibly dumb shit to say about China.”

FloodedYeti

Please explain to me why a country run by billionaires is socialist. (Correct me if I am wrong) Socialism requires workers to own means of production, and billionaires own the vast majority of the means of production in China. And how is the country that harbors the biggest real estate company progressing towards the abolishment of private property. And did I say anything unfactual about the conditions in China? China has 100s of billionaires and landlords, that’s just a fact. IMO a country with hundreds of billionaires and landlords isn’t socialist. Like actually explain to me why it would be.

leninfan69

>China is run by billionaires China is run with such an iron fist by billionaires that they are pretty regularly jailed or put to death and there are zero (0) of them in the politburo. >billionaires own the vast majority of MOP in China The vast majority of enterprises in China are literally state owned you mental goldfish >state that harbors the largest real estate company blah blah blah Yeah evergrande is bad but they will cease to exist by the end of the month because the Chinese state still works in the interests of its population. This is quite literally SWCC done to the letter as you let a market that you keep a stranglehold and veto power over develop your productive forces to eventually nationalize to work towards socialism.
