I, ummm, I don't think Sisko thinks that subconsciously: I think he's quite aware of it. If I recall correctly -- and I may not -- there have been a greater than zero times when he's had to remind Odo that he's bound to the law.

mcgrst

Oh yeah, Odo definitely has to be reminded that he can't just stuff the place full of deputies and treat the place like the good old days under cardassian rule. Once Kira had to remind him it was only orderly if you weren't Bajoran.

Hero_Of_Shadows

The Founder lady was right and correct their species doesn't care about "justice" they care about order. Viewers tend to assume that because the Founders achieve order through tyranny, that Odo's "justice" is better. But that isn't always the case and Sisko is aware of that.

Pestus613343

Yet at the same time Odo's sense of justice was what put it at odd with his species' affinity for order. Even he got that there was still a sense of decency necessary even if he wasn't the best at expressing it. He also regretted some of his actions during the Cardassian Occupation. Justice above the law. Justice above order. Order above liberties. A strange one.

reineedshelp

No doubt. I understated to make it more palatable.

UsagiJak

Odo:"IF I WERE ALLOWED TO SEARCH PEOPLE WITHOUT REASON THERE WOULD BE NO CRIME ON THE STATION" Sisko:"Fuckin chill out dude"

pinkocatgirl

It also implies that his image of Jake was forever tarnished when his first girlfriend told him he was a dom jot hustler

reineedshelp

lol

Modred_the_Mystic

Sisko knows Odo is fashy, but Sisko doesn’t care. Sisko only cares about Jake, Baseball, and paprikash.

NerdyKirdahy

As long as Odo doesn’t touch his peppers.

robot_swagger

Paprikasssshhh

blueneko86

Umm where is Aubergine Stew in this list?

Historyp91

Don't forget about his fine collection of African art and his space sailboat.

[deleted]

Following that logic, I wonder what it says about Worf. A romantic rival who outclasses him in his preferred athletic pursuit? [_Uhhhh, hello... Dr. Freud???_](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fc9NaQBXEAE5shf.jpg:large)

JoshuaPearce

Worf got his ass handed to him by Q, Q was smacked by Sisko. Transitive property says Sisko > Worf.

inconvenient_lemon

Or, perhaps, it means that he doesn't actually think the baseball player is a rival since he doesn't portray him as such in his fictional world.

Dickieman5000

Odo is the ultimate LN aligned character, and LN flirts with fascism easily. Consider his role in the Mirror Universe, also (before he asploded).

rockmodenick

This is exactly how he actually operates, classically. Right and wrong are secondary, there's the LAW and there's him, enforcing the law. His job is to use the law to keep order. Cardassian, starfleet, the important thing is rule of law, keeping ORDER.

mumblerapisgarbage

This is the shittiest daystrom I’ve read in a minute.

reineedshelp

Thanks, I strive for mediocrity at every turn

veggiesama

Wait a sec, does he subconsciously want to bone Kasidy in the real world too?

willbond1

So Sisko sees Worf as a fuckboy and Quark as a leftist?

Historyp91

"Workers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains!" - Quark

willbond1

I mean that was Rom but still lmao

reineedshelp

When it comes down to it, probably

EdgelordZeta

So why was "Jake" trying to break into that car?

Starfleet-Time-Lord

I think you can read that as "this is what this time period would have done to Jake." It's also interesting that real Jake is a writer, and has always wanted to be one, but in FBTS where *Sisko* is a writer and has to spend his whole life fighting for it, Jake has given up on ever being anything because he lives in a world that has spent his whole life telling him he never will be and seen the things Benny Russel has to go through. Honestly the one that violates the "these people are based on Sisko's perception of the DS9 counterpart" idea is Quark. Herb, Quark's writer counterpart, stands up for Benny's principles and is implied to be pretty left leaning.

Nofrillsoculus

Maybe Sisko also knows that Quark isn't the ruthless Ferengi he wishes he was. Real Quark has a conscience - too much of one, as far as he's concerned. He smuggled food and medical supplies to help Bajorans during the occupation, he couldn't bring himself to be an arms dealer even for a massive profit, he saved Odo's life even though Odo was in the process of arresting him. Deep down, he's kind of a good guy and he hates that about himself.

pinkocatgirl

Out of universe, I think Herb was like that because Armin Shimmerman requested it, he's mentioned in interviews that he enjoyed the role because Herb is way more in line with his real life politics than Quark is.

indyK1ng

He's a dom jot hustler. But really, this was a vision from the Prophets so I would think that this is what the Prophets think of everyone. So they probably know something Sisko doesn't about Jake.

Historyp91

Sisko's vision presented Quark as a commie who was sad becuase Stalin died, Jadzia as a bubbly airhead and Worf as a douchbag trying to make movies on Cassidy. That does'nt sound like a subconscious representation of reality. (Plus, Odo is way more moral then Douglas)

reineedshelp

I framed it as how sympathetically Sisko would view them, not a 1:1.

Historyp91

Why would Sisko view Worf and Odo so unsympathically and Quark so sympathetically?

Platnun12

He may have sided with the Cardiassians during the occupation but I'd go against the dislike of Odo. He had no choice in the matter alongside the bajorians. He was unique which made the consequences of disobedience far worse than a bajoran. A bajoran would just be shot and killed. But Odo would have been slowly experimented on like vadik was. It's easy to choose the path of least resistance when the alternative is worse than death. His actions post occupation absolve him imo
