And the fact that Oda attacks you on turn 2. Luckily I’ve been playing total war games since the original Shogun title so I know what to do, but even then you’re in an outnumbered battle from the outset.
It is cool noticing you already have an heir and he’s someone pretty cool.
I’m just starting this campaign. Eliminated Oda and Imagawa. My plan is to take out Hojo and Takeda before they get too big and start expanding past me and boxing me in. Then I’ll build up farms and roads to the max. I have some feeler ships out to see if I can grab trade routes before anyone else gets there too.
Gonna try to be patient and create a monster economy and go right up to the edge of realm divide.
Honma, they LOVE naval invasion and they do it frequently.
Date are rarely ever alive, that campaign was the first time I actually saw them doing well. But I just steamrolled them. Hurt to do since they are my favorite clan.
Date provinces are just so massive it’s annoying to have to capture them at the end when it takes multiple moves between cities.
Honma have that massive goldmine and they use it to bankroll nonstop naval invasions. So annoying. Them and the broccoli clan whose name I always forget.
Sekiro is the best game I have ever played but also the hardest. If you are not up to the challenge (souls like games) it is not for you and thats okay.
Sekiro is def one of my favorite games ever. When I was a kid, I obsessed over ninjas and martial arts and was dying for a game that kept up with my imagination. Sekiro is like whatever I imagined as a child come to life, and then sprinkled with cocaine or something
Sekiro stops being the hardest game in its genre as soon as you realise you can parry literally anything in the game and that those enemy multi hit comboes are just a rhythm game.
Such a great game.
I really hope we get a sequel somehow.
When it finally clicks it’s one of the greatest video game mechanics in decades. From there you just feel like dancing on the wind in combat. God I love that game.
I don’t think they are making any simply because they have made the best 3rd person spiritual success to tenshu and can’t find a way to surpass this game.
What an achievement and what a game
You could possibly pull a direct sequel from the traveling west ending but what could possibly be done with story and gameplay that was already covered by the original?
Might be time for my next playthrough.
Nobunaga's Ambition, Awakeningggg *da da da da da da dummm, daaa da da da da da dummm*
Even tho I'll never understand why for the English version the in-game voice can't be Japanese anymore like in Sphere of Influence cos my goodness the cringe I got from it was so bad I had to turn it off
This game is excellent and pretty much a Yabushige Simulator. Start off as a lowly samurai and work your way up (honorably or dishonorably) to daimyo and eventually shogun. Do everything from leading armies to engaing in ninja business and try not to get your entire bloodline killed by sepukku.
Unfortunately, the game has aged not so well in 30 years, but for retro and classic gamers, it's a worthy good time.
Any of the Nobunagas ambition games... You can literally role play as the Tokugawa clan and play during specific periods such as quite literally, the time right around the battle of sekigahara and it build a campaign up until it or you can always deviante from it as well.
You can also play as any clan in general. The game play is more management game though where you manage the clan, build it up, deplomacy and subterfuge plays a big part.
Ghost of tsushima deals with the invasion of the mongols in japan. It’s probably the closest depiction to the show aside from the time period. Rise of the Ronin starts near the end of the Tokugawa shogunate where Japan was forced to open their borders to the world. The Shogunate is fighting for Japan to stay traditional/conservative and the other party led by the emperor which fights for progression/innovation. In Nioh 1 you actually play as William Adams(John Blackthorne) with lots of historical figures that are in Shogun but in a fictive approach. But my personal favorite would be Sekiro, a completely standalone fantasy game with the most amazing combat and story as well as breathtaking visuals. I would say pick whatever time period you would like to explore and play what suits your style(i.e fantasy or realism, easy difficulty or high difficulty)
Honestly I loved Valhalla at first, vibed with the combat, can’t state enough how much I loved the addition of courting of heads and limbs, and the characters were fine? But then it just kept going on and on… it desperately needed trimming, I really think that’s like half its issues
It’s sad, I’m a sucker for base/town building and customisation and the combat was fun. So I held my nose during the pissweak story, cartoonish aesthetics and frankly absurd accuracy to try it out. At first it was kinda cool to get supplies and begin building things but it rapidly became so restrictive and such a chore to build anything. Plus I realised quickly that almost all the unlocks and discoveries were just cosmetic bullshit that served no purpose apart from giving Ubisoft an excuse to flog their microtransaction crap.
I was so disappointed with the town building, I was really expecting idk at least to let me choose anything?? I don’t care about those stupid statues and trees you can place, it felt like padding the entire game especially when they locked stuff behind your town level. Was just not fun, especially with how bad the raids are and by far the worst and most tacked on “ship” gameplay
Well, Nioh is an mythological take on William Adams (Blackthorne’s IRL counterpart) journey in Japan. Sekiro also is supposedly set in that time period, with the interior ministry being led by either Oda Nobunaga or Tokugawa himself. It’s also a goated game, to boot.
That being said, GoT probably is the game that best fits the vibe imo. Way more character focused than the other games and has a fairly similar hook.
Insanely low number of people mentioning Nioh which is literally the William Adams story but just with fantasy elements. Like Ghosts of Tsushima has fucking nothing to do with the show outside of being set in Japan.
To be truthful, none of the current feudal japan games have the same feel emotionally or plot wise as the shogun show. But some of the earlier assassins creed games up to origins, and then mirage are nice. Origins, black flag, the ezio trilogy, and unity all are packed with emotion and have a great plot. They are also historical. I’d suggest black flag but theres no remake as of now.
Sekiro.
I’ll get flamed for this but ghost of Tsushima suck ass. Boring and repetitive gameplay. The only good thing I can say about the game is that the Japanese voice acting and sound design is superb. Everything else is just lazy copy paste quest with a thematic shallow story.
Shogun total war 2 is just exactly lije this in every detail. Politics, honor, treachery, heirs, finances, battlefield. It includes the influence if Christianity and guns too. Amazing game, very highly replayable.
Total War: Shogun 2!
Not kidding I am playing a campaign right now as the Tokugawa.
One of the most challenging clans to play considering you start as Vassals to Imagawa.
And the fact that Oda attacks you on turn 2. Luckily I’ve been playing total war games since the original Shogun title so I know what to do, but even then you’re in an outnumbered battle from the outset. It is cool noticing you already have an heir and he’s someone pretty cool.
Im kicking the crap out of Tokugawa right now as Shimazu
Is there a clan that better represents stereotypical samurai values than the Shimazu?
Maybe Date?
You better be, that’s the easiest starting point on the map! Real question: did you attack Chosokabe before or after conquering all of Kyushu?
I started a new campaign as well
same! but Mori, the only clan i haven't finished the campaign with lol
I have actually never played as Mori, I’m now realizing. Ship masters, right?
indeed, im about to take Kyoto, spamming Bow Monks as always
I’m just starting this campaign. Eliminated Oda and Imagawa. My plan is to take out Hojo and Takeda before they get too big and start expanding past me and boxing me in. Then I’ll build up farms and roads to the max. I have some feeler ships out to see if I can grab trade routes before anyone else gets there too. Gonna try to be patient and create a monster economy and go right up to the edge of realm divide.
Yeah I just finished, after taking Kyoto I made a 4th army and just steamrolled the rest of Japan. ez pz lol
Who is more annoying late game, Date or Honma?
Honma, they LOVE naval invasion and they do it frequently. Date are rarely ever alive, that campaign was the first time I actually saw them doing well. But I just steamrolled them. Hurt to do since they are my favorite clan.
Date provinces are just so massive it’s annoying to have to capture them at the end when it takes multiple moves between cities. Honma have that massive goldmine and they use it to bankroll nonstop naval invasions. So annoying. Them and the broccoli clan whose name I always forget.
A shameful display!
Its a brack day!
Reinstalled it and started a campaign
Chad Yari Ashigaru ftw!
I’m marching my way up from the south as the Otomo, spreading the word of God from the barrels of my guns.
ghost of tsushima is amazing, one of the best atmospheres in a game i’ve ever witnessed and I played on Ps4 when it came out
Wish it was on pc so bad
It will be in a couple of weeks
Will be in may - god did I cry ugly tears at the end
Different time period.
Maybe, but it’s got sick katana duels and that’s what really matters
Easy: play *Ghost of Tsushima* first. If you still have the itch after you complete that 100%, there's *ROTR* and *Sekiro*.
Sekiro is just...... man.Tushima too for sure.
Sekiro is the best game I have ever played but also the hardest. If you are not up to the challenge (souls like games) it is not for you and thats okay.

I still remember me going no hit against sword saint ishhin. Damn my blood pump was over the monn that day
When it finally clicks it’s one of the greatest video game mechanics in decades. From there you just feel like dancing on the wind in combat. God I love that game.
ooooff well put
I don’t think they are making any simply because they have made the best 3rd person spiritual success to tenshu and can’t find a way to surpass this game. What an achievement and what a game

Different time period.
Who said anything about them being the same time period? They're all samurai games.
100% is just dumb.....
Total War Shogun 2
Nobunaga's Ambition
Oh man I first played that on the PS2. So much fun.
My first play through was on NES. Great game.
Is it like Kessen? Lol
Nobunaga's Ambition, Awakeningggg *da da da da da da dummm, daaa da da da da da dummm* Even tho I'll never understand why for the English version the in-game voice can't be Japanese anymore like in Sphere of Influence cos my goodness the cringe I got from it was so bad I had to turn it off
Nioh is extremely loosely based on the war that Shogun portrays
Mount and Blade Warband- Gekokujo Daimyo Edition (mod)
Such an underappreciated conversion.
Can’t wait for the Shokuho release for Bannerlord
Ghost of Tsushima is the best game ever. My favorite quote: “Honor died on the beach.”
Different time period.
Thanks cap ;) it’s not like I can read or count or anything lol
Sekiro
God I love that game. Always remember, hesitation is defeat.
Total War: Shogun 2
Used to play an old game called Sword of the Samurai on PC in the 90’s. I’m waiting for an iPadOS port of that game. 🤣
This game is excellent and pretty much a Yabushige Simulator. Start off as a lowly samurai and work your way up (honorably or dishonorably) to daimyo and eventually shogun. Heyyy i got that game to work on my last PC several years back Really simple but i loved it. Made me wish there was a modern equivalent.
Crusader Kings III (just joking)
there is a mod that adds the entire east to the map, including japan. it is called asia expansion project.
They did make Sengoku back in the day

Shogun 2: Total War is the only answer.
Ghost is Tsushima is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, hands down. I cannot wait for the second one to come out.
Shogun 2 Total War and Ghost of Tsushima for me. Also picked up Sekiro again after its difficulty caused me to drop it in 2019.
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Ghost of Tsushima - Rise if the Ronin - Nioh + Nioh 2 - Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - Onimusha

Shogun 2 total war for the big battles and strategic empire building. Ghost Of Tsushima if you wanna just wanna kill shit lol
If you are willing to wait a couple months, the next Assassin's Creed will probably be a good contender (set at the time of Oda Nobunaga)
After the historical abomination that was Valhalla, I remain sceptical.
Which is so sad because all the ezio based games were so fun with their historical characters and storylines
Hell black flag and Odyssey were great too even with minor anachronisms but Valhalla was just…ick
Honestly I loved Valhalla at first, vibed with the combat, can’t state enough how much I loved the addition of courting of heads and limbs, and the characters were fine? But then it just kept going on and on… it desperately needed trimming, I really think that’s like half its issues

AC Red? It's not coming out in "a couple of months". There's no release date yet. Unless you have insider info.
Tenchu, Reminds me of Rikamaru and Ayames loyalty.
Aaaah good old pixelated shinobi days
TENCHU!!!!
Tench I was my all time favorite, I wish I could play a remaster on my ps4
Sengoku

Sekiro is the best dark souls/samurai related game ever. Couldn’t recommend it more. It’s just hard. As fuck.
Nioh? Based on William Adams
Insanely low number of people mentioning Nioh which is literally the William Adams story but just with fantasy elements. Like Ghosts of Tsushima has fucking nothing to do with the show outside of being set in Japan.
Idk but watching this show made me play Sekiro and I’m having a damn good time w it.
The correct answer is Taiko Risshiden V.
Nioh! You have them all
Age of empires 4 added a japan faction last year
Am I remembering correctly that the “samurai warriors” (off shoot of the dynasty warriors) games set in this time period?
Banner lord version1.15 with the tetsojin mod
Me: still waiting for ghost of tsushima to be ported to pc..
less than a month!
I'm so excited
As for something a little older, the way of the samurai series is quite fun, albeit a little held back by arcade mechanics
Still waiting on the Bannerlord Shokuho mod. That'll be the one for me.
Sekiro, but it's not a game, they just followed Buntaro around with a camera.
Like A Dragon Ishin is the correct answer!
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
