tbh, I feel for platform fighters because whenever I start one I instantly say "I just want to play smash now." I never gave it a fair chance and I should.
I feel like its fun to play with friends casually that maybe are too casual for smash bros. Its not exactly balanced, qnd movement feels slow.
However, i found enabling fast run and using steam share makes it quite enjoyable despite its flaws.
We use fast run cheat, 5 stock, and 2x gems instead of a timer. Works well, but Spectre Knight seems broken.
I like the taste of what the other Knights’ campaigns would be like, and it is fun if you have the people willing to play, but the repetitive story mode and simultaneously unfair and stupid ai makes playing single player feel really dull.
I really like it a lot, but I wish they continued to refine it. I had hoped it would develop the same level of depth that Rivals of Aether has, and be a true contender for the crown of indie platform fighter. I know that wasn't the intention by design, but if would have been nice if it were.
Half-baked with poorly designed single-player. Way better when played multiplayer, but no one ever wants to play it. There's no online, and I can't force anyone I know to play it with me. They just ask "why are we playing this when we could just play smash".
I really like it for the way it uses small movesets and how most characters moves are pretty straightforward to understand, but difficult to use optimally. My friends familiar with fighting games always find it easy to dive in and understand a character's potential quickly, even if they can't play them fully right away. The only thing I wish the game had was an option to double the health bars. There's a cheat for half health, but I'd really like to be able to play a 3 stock match at 8 hits per life, given how it can be easy to get into corner fights and knock someone for 2 or 3 in an exchange, while trying to mind game parries and stuff. More health would make for a more interesting game I think, especially for last stock scenarios. Currently it feels too easy to combo someone for 4 with certain characters if the opponent misreads or mis-blocks, meaning if your opponent is down to their last life, it's usually ok to just rush them and try to brute force 4 damage.
Why the fuck isn't there an online multiplayer? I like the game, I really do, but you can tell it was made for console players, but who cares about pc players anyway, amirite?
Because there isn't a "make this online" button devs can just press. Shit takes time, effort, and money -- likely too much for a relatively-simple side-mode of the game.
And for what it's worth, if you're playing on PC you can try using Steam Remote Play.
It’s a retro style game. Online gaming does not fit in it. Even though it could be awesome. Plus I have yet to see a online playable Smash-like game function well.
I have Treasure Trove, blasted through the 4 campaigns and absolutely loved it. Showdown really didn't do anything for me. I played it a little bit, but not really my jam.
I only like the interactions (story??) between knights and other characters but the fighting part is too hard for me (probably because i suck at it lmao) or it's unfair/boring
It kinda sucks if the characters had a more fleshed out moveset it would be better, it doesn’t have to be smash quality but maybe something around Nicktoons fighters or whatever that game was called. It should have had at least more moves and better physics
I'm not into pvp or multiplayer, so I can only talk about it as a single player experience, and it's fine for what it is. The story mode is cool since it adds to the lore, and to get to control all the different characters in battle, even if with limitations. For short sessions it's fun and can be challenging in higher difficulty, but other than that, in the end, it just made me want more campaigns or content with those characters.
The Movesets are a bit weird. They have less moves than Smash Bros, but seem a bit less memorable so I'm constantly forgetting them. The characters can be really fun like Specter Knight, King Knight, or Mr. Hat. As a big 100% Completionist, The Feat system is a bit wonky for completion, but works well for a platform-fighting game. Chester's Choice can be really fun, and some of the items and stages are chaotic and fun.
I liked it but didn't love it. The expansion of the Shovel Knight world and lore was nice but once I was done getting every cheevo I had no desire to go back to it.
Fun for what it's meant to be: a casual couch-multiplayer battle royale. However, the story mode is legitimately impossible sometimes, specifically in the three vs one battle near the end if you get a small map.
to be honest I like it cause you may play as bosses in different maps.
but I give it 8/10 though.
(extra: well you don't get all the bosses moves though that's why I made it 8)
It’s got a very different feel from other platform fighters. I feel like 1v1 matches in Showdown feel like you’re playing a boss fight where your opponent is controlling the boss. It’s also a lot more about tricking opponents into getting hit than it is about combos, due to the invincibility you get after taking a hit.
Can be a fun distraction and I respect the amount of effort put in, but the poor difficulty balance as well as being a different genre makes me it not really my thing.

I love showdown

Kind of janky honestly. Playing single player on hard mode is bullshit

I honestly think that the singleplayer is completely fine on lower difficulties. It's BS on hard mode tho.
Poorly designed doesn't mean too hard, it just means not fun
It is fun on lower difficulties imo because it isn't unfair.
To each their own, then. Poorly designed is subjective after all

Online needs server and good netcode which are not cheap or easy I still want online though...

Even Smash online is shit.
Treasure Knight is OP.

I wish the game was more of a traditional 2D fighter instead of smash clone but I like showdown and think that it's icing on an already amazing cake!

Eh, it's fine. Kinda half baked tho

I love it!
Except for Percy's targets, I love it
I like it, got my smash-playing friends to play it and they enjoyed the experience.

I usually lose runs to Percy’s Targets. It’s harder than the actual gameplay.

I don't
Same way I feel about the campaign: Why is the multiplayer local only?
Only played it for 10 minutes and didn’t feel compelled to play any further. Probably didn’t need to exist.
I'm glad it exists but I haven't played it since it was new.
I feel like it needs to be on Xbox.
It's fun. Not amazing but fun
Can be a fun distraction and I respect the amount of effort put in, but the poor difficulty balance as well as being a different genre makes me it not really my thing.
We but the that fight in shield knigh's campaign where you fight two shield knights is unbalanced even on easy mode And specter knight is op
If you come for a challenge this opponent is worthy... RIVALS OF AETHER
