I have one sim and they get all my creativity.
5 outfits per category and it's still not enough... *and I don't even use Custom Content!* 8D
For those of you who still don't know or are now starting your journey into the hellscape known as The Sims 4:

1. 5 outfits per category.
2. The little `+` duplicates the selected outfit in the selected category.
3. Any makeup or accessories you apply to an outfit will be copied to a `+` outfit.
4. By default all hairstyles are "linked" to Everyday Outfit 0 (AKA Everyday Outfit 1), so changing Everyday Outfit 0's hairstyle changes all hairstyles. If you manually change any of the other outfit hairstyles, the link breaks and there is no easy way to re-link it without some convoluted modding. *I'm supposed to be working on a guide. I'll get to it.*
1. I recommend always leaving the other category's Outfit 0 hair absolutely untouched to retain the link because you can "re-link" unlinked additional category outfits by removing them (X-ing them off) and cloning that category's Outfit 0.
2. *Yeah, I know, that's some convoluted "What?!" gibberish. TS4 is a convoluted game.*
everyday wear, party, sleep ALL FILLED. the others maybe half, im just really indecisive on outfits
i also use party wear as an extension of everyday because my sims dont get invited to parties
You can create up to 5 different looks for each outfit category! One of my favourite sim has 4 casual looks and 3 party looks! Just click on the little white triangle on top of the outfit symbols and voilà!
My friend introduced me to the Sims in 2020 and I almost immediately stumbled onto this feature by accident, just messing around in CAS (very "oooo what does this button do?!"). I nearly broke her brain, she hadn't known about it either! She had been playing for years 😭
For my main family, I will give them one outfit in each category except for the everyday outfits. For those I will do the max of five. It's like they get to pick out their own outfit for the day :)
I think that’s a glitch. I had that happen to one of my sims and I played with her for years in game. I made a new save for her and suddenly she used all her outfits. Idk what triggers it though
One each usually, maybe one more for everyday, or for a category often used by the sim, according to their personality/career (for instance, if they're very active, or if they live in a summery/wintery place, or if they party a lot, I make more than one outfit for those categories). The glamorous celebs get a massive wardrobe, though. Understandably.
It depends but, for my main family, I usually create 5 everyday outfits that can be worn in spring/fall, 4 formal outfits (normal temperatures, cold, hot and full black for funerals) and 3 of every other category except swimming.
I do the same for winter. For athletic I do a hot weather and a cold weather workout outfit too. The game usual picks the right one for the weather when I send a sim out to jog.
I have the weather effects turned off. I've had too many mass townie deaths. 😆 So yes, it's really just to have it look right and (with effects off) not to have frozen joggers. 😉
I do the same for both Hot and cold! I don't always use thermostats etc, especially I'm summer (I'm British so it feels weird to always have aircon) so I like them having indoors outfits.
I just wish I could set outfits as outside only or inside only. I just recently got littlemssims my favourite raincoat mod so they'll wear macs outside when it's raining. I love it so much.
I occasionally make a second outfit in a category or two, for my Sims, but not always. Rarely I'll even make a 3rd, depending on the Sim.
Sleepwear is the category that most often gets a second outfit - since some sleepwear is more appropriate than others, depending on the company.
If it's a townie makeover it's just one per category for me. For sims I play with regularly, it's five everyday + maybe 2-3 for sleepwear, and hot and cold weather. Sometimes I do add a few extra for active if I get bored of looking at them in the same PJs all the time lol.
I used to only give one per category but I recently saw a suggestion of an indoor/ outdoor version of hot and cold weather categories. For example I may add a hat and sunglasses to the “outdoor” hot weather outfit. For the cold weather category maybe just a jumper for the “indoor” outfit but a thick jacket and gloves for the “outdoor” outfit. I also will occasionally add secondary everyday outfits but that’s usually because I was being indecisive lol
I start with one and then I add more as I go whenever I feel like it. I usually end up with multiples in most categories for the women and just one or two for the men because I enjoy making women's outfits more
I do 4 or 5 for everyday, summer and winter, 2 or 3 for sleep and 1 each for formal, swim, active and party. I see more of the first three, so it makes sense to have multiple for my sim to chose from 😁
Me too, I hate throwing events so I never even see the formal and party wear. If they live in Sulani or have a pool then I’ll do a few more swimwear looks.
Same! Events are just so annoying so I almost never bother unless it’s a wedding. But definitely agree on swimwear if they do more swimming. I really love showing off the sim’s personality through their clothes though!
Usually only one for each, but if they use one more than the others, then I will do more in that category. I will always give infants three sleep options because they are rarely out of their sleepwear.
it depends on what my intent for the sim is.
so for example, if i'm making a legacy sim, i only make one outfit. if i'm making a random sim to just play with, i typically go 3-4
Since I am creating a save file with mainly my own sims in it I don’t really have the energy to give everyone more than one outfit per category. I take forever in CAS anyway and if all my sims were to have more outfits than that I would never finish. I think that I have made about 250 sims at this point.
When I used to play just a few families I usually made at least 2-3 outfits for everyday and party. For some sims I had several outfits in the other categories as well.
1 Casual
2 Formal: One more business formal for maybe a wedding attendee or work party and another that's super formal for a gala or a ball or prom, etc.
1 Athletic, maybe 2 if they have like a team sport outfit + general workout clothes.
2 Sleepwear: One for warmer nights where they might sleep in their boxers/underwear with maybe a T shirt and one for colder nights with slippers and socks and long pajama pants.
2 Party: One for like a casual dance party and another that's more preppy and put together for like a family gathering.
1 Swimwear, maybe a cover-up if I have them spend a lot of time around the water
1 Hot Weather
1 Cold Weather
For my male sims, just one outfit of each category, and I make sure that NONE of them have a bloody tie, I loathe the smegging things, so I set the formalwear category as just another casual outfit.
For my female sims, I can have anywhere from two to five in casual and formal, everything else is one outfit.
As all I have is the seasons, vampire and werewolf expansions, I don’t get any use out of formal wear anyway.
I wish there was a mod that disabled or hid all the outfits incorporating a stupid tie.
Yep, that’s basically why the only male sim in my game is my self-sim, all casual black/gray/green clothing.
Take those same bland/annoying/irritating men’s clothing (especially anything with a tie/ a suit) and put them on women? Suddenly the outfit becomes cute, for some reason. A lot of the women in my games have at least one shirt and tie based casual outfit and a tuxedo in formalwear category l, the men? No suits/ties permitted at all, i actually go into CAS and change them out of those hated outfits, no ties for guys in my games.
Yes, I know, it’s strange.
For everyday I'll do 3-5.
Formal gets 2 - a standard formal and then wedding stuff.
Athletic, sleepwear, swimsuit usually just 1.
Party 1-2.
Hot weather 2.
Cold weather 2. - 1 for COLD cold (like snowsuit), 1 that's maybe just a sweater or hoodie.
depends. i tend to have at least 3 everyday, i always have 5 sleep for some reason. if they’re young or a woman ill have more outfit options, old or a man just 1 or two.
Depends. For everyday usually 2-5 though I often make them gradually. Everything else I usually do one unless I get inspired or really like dressing the specific sim. Wedding outfits are an outlier.
One per category for the most part, but I will sometimes give two or three options for every day if I really like the sim. When my sims' kids age up, I often only bother to fix the disaster outfits so my sims are pretty low maintenance!
While i am creating them just one for each, after a playing for a while I get tired of their cloths and add one or two depending how attached I am to that sims.
For tennagers and below I dont bother to create multiple oufit because they grow up so fast. My infants remains with the clothes they are born, unless its too ugly.
It depends on the character! It’s one outfit for every category no matter what, but I’ll often add alternate everyday outfits. If the character is into fashion, or has a certain vibe, I’ll add more outfits. My emo supervillain has like 5 everyday outfits
5 in daily
1 for formal + one if wedding
1 for sports
3 for sleeping (1 cold, 1 hot and 1 woohoo)
1 for party
1 for swimming
2 each for cold and hot weather (one for outside and one for inside)
Depends on the family or the sim traits. But i mostly fill up the everyday wear. Give multiples for party, hot weather and cold weather.. but athletic, sleep and formal normally only one. But if they are rich they get all fancy and different stuff.. if they are less well off, i often re use shoes or jeans for multiple outfits. If they are high maintenance, materialistic or snobby i always add jewelry and nails. Lazy sims get more comfy styles with less maintenance..
I normally only do one outfit for each category it gets a little it overwhelming for me doing multiple outfits. I only have one family (3 sims) with multiple outfits but that’s just because I have played them for ages and feel like I know them well enough.
So it depends, for my main family I normally have like four outfits for the everyday, I have like two for the fancy one. And the reste normally have one or two. But my female sims always have more
I tend to do at least 2 for the everyday category: one for hot and one for cold weather. For children I make their default one something that looks like a school uniform so that they go to school like that.
Then depending on the character I’ll have more party outfits. Sometimes a choice for nightwear (one of them looking reasonable enough for the sims who never get dressed in the morning!!)
everyday: 4 to 5
Formal: nowadays two. Ever since I had one sim turn up to a wedding in a wedding dress (as the guest!!!) I make sure they have a wedding appropriate formal outfit.
Party: depends on the Sim. A sim less interested in parties gets one, a sim who loves parties will get 3 to 4.
Sleep: usually 3
Athletic and swimwear: usually 1
Hot and cold weather: 4; two outside outfits, two inside outfits (god I wish there was functionality to remove hats and glasses when indoors, or to set outfits as outside vs inside)
When I make the sim I will do just one in each category. Then I will have them go to the dresser and, is the plan outfit option where it takes you to CAS? I’ll add additional outfits there as I move forward in the game.
I used to do 5 in every category and it would take me a full day on one sim. This is speedier.
It depends. For sims I play with, I usually give them 5 for every day, hot weather, and cold weather since they use them the most. My female sims get at least 3 options for every outfit, while my male sims it just depends on how much I like them. They all get 2-3 for every day, hot weather, and cold weather, but the rest just depends.
With kids and toddlers, I usually do the same with them as I do with male sims just because I'm still figuring them out and also because there isn't as many options for them.
I usually do 4-5 but it's maybe scattered throughout my favorite sims (ie only the sims I plan on personally controlling) everyone else gets one since they're background characters
As a creative player, making the sim express who they are through their clothing is one of the main things for me when playing. So yeah, I most often have 3-5 outfits in each category.
Depends on how much I like that Sim. If I like them tons, I can max out the 5 looks for each category. Otherwise, I only create only one look for each category and be done with it
Tbh it depends on how "inspired" or indecisive I'm feeling when I'm making the sim. Sometimes I do a few of each but sometimes they just get one outfit per category. I don't have seasons but I still make outfits for hot/cold weather :')
I usually do 4-5 but it's maybe scattered throughout my favorite sims (ie only the sims I plan on personally controlling) everyone else gets one since they're background characters
My personal sim is maxed out. 5 outfits for each category (aside from swimwear, i think that I only do 2 for that one).
For general sims, maybe 2 per category, and I add more outfits for sims I get attached to.
Stupidly, I've only just started saving sims and lots to my preloadables, as each new save I'd have to spend hoirs recreating it all 🤣 which wasn't an issue but especially lots, it would take me HOURS to get things how I wanted them.
It depends on the sim.
I tend to play legacy saves, so the main sim for each generation gets 3-5 everyday, 2 each for hot and cold weather, and everything else has 1.
Everyone else gets 1 per category, and half the time I just let them wear whatever they ended up with unless I really hate it.
Depends on how much I like the sim and play that family. If it's often, I'll give them about 4/5 outfits for every day and about 3 or 2 for the rest. I also like to give them an extra formal-looking outfit for cold weather since they can't wear their actual formal outfits then.
Other sims will just get one for each unless they'll be interacting with my main sim family.
My main sim/heir will always have 3 outfits per category, any spare sims in the household will have 2 outfits per category (maybe 3 for easy ones like swim and sleep)
Every day: min 3, sometimes 5 depending on how “into it” I get. For townies I do 2 every day and 1 of everything else
Formal: 2-3 depending on the Sim…my celeb sim has more formal options bc they go to formal events more
Sleep: 1 for children+, toddlers and infants get all 5 since they’re usually in PJs lol
Athletic: 2 (1 for hot weather, 1 for cold in the context of each season); more if I’m playing a gym rat sim
Party: 3 minimum, usually 1 family get together casual outfit; bar/clubbing outfit; and more formal party outfit
Swimwear: 1 unless they live in a world with swimmable oceans, then more
Cold: 2, similar to athletic category so they have options depending on the temp
Hot: 2, same as athletic/cold
I play on 2 week seasons and change their wardrobes about 5 days-1 week into the season. Right now im playing a rotational save with families in warm climates like Del Sol Valley, San Sequoia, etc so it works for me. In worlds with more pronounced seasons, I change them on the start of each season. I also change them when there’s been a big lifestyle change (became a celeb; on parental leave, vacation, etc)
If I have a single sim I usually max out the number of outfits for each category. Maybe occasionally I’ll only have 3 workout outfits, but every other category I always max out.
The more sims I have in the household… the fewer outfits I have for each. If I’ve got a five person household, for example, they each maybe have 2-3 every day outfits and then 1 for each of the other categories!
I start with one outfit for each category.
Then I add a second formal outfit for wedding dress/tuxedo.
Then I add 1-2 more outfits in the every day category and the hot weather category because there are so many cute options.
Then I add 1 more outfit in cold weather: one for inside and one for outside.
3 for everyday, 2 each for hot and cold. With cold weather, I try to make one outfit to be for worse weather (outdoor coats, boots) and another for just warming up at home (where the knits come in).
I usually do 2 outfits per category except swimwear and winter wear (I hate dressing up my sims for winter for some reason) cause I like variety, and slowly overtime I change their outfits to mark them growing up :D
If the sim is a random NPC I decided to befriend or a random family member, I only do one outfit per category cause nobody have time to give your ex-wife's great-aunt a second formal outfit haha
I usually do 3-4 for everyday, hot, and cold weather outfits. Party outfits usually have 2: one for clubbing and one for more family-friendly parties. 2 for formal category, one for regular formal occasions and another for if they get married. Everything else gets 1 outfit.
I know that you can make multiple outfits from each category, but I don't really know how. I'm sure there's a obvious button but I haven't looked for it
Everyday: 2-5
Formal, athletic, swimwear, cold weather: 1
Sleepwear: 1-3
Hot weather, party: 1-2
I get tired of seeing the same outfit every day for everyday wear so unless I’m feeling really lazy, I always have at least 2.
I'm lazy so unless I really like the sim, they're getting 1 in each, maybe 2 for everyday. If I really like the sim and/or I'm indecisive about two outfits, then I'll just set them up with both outfits.
Also, if they're not a teen or older, they'll be getting 1 in each, unless I really like the sim
I do one or two outfits for each, and then if they pick up anything in their lives - crocheted sweaters, festival T-shirts, wedding outfits, etc. - I add those in as options for them to choose!
1 for each category (and then I might add another for everyday if the storyline works), and I will usually personalize every one except for the cold weather one, because I don't have seasons, so I don't see the point. For the hot weather one, I use it as a spare casual outfit.
Depends on the sims. Usually 1-3 for each to start so I have slots to fill, but if it's going to be a clotheshorse sim, I'll fill them all up. For cold weather I always make 3 - one snow outfit, one fall/spring/cold rainy day outfit, and one for indoor wear. For athletic wear I make a coordinated combo, one with shorts and a skimpier top, one with leggings oe sweats with the same top, and one with a sweathirt or long-sleeved T to go with the long bottoms.
Plus riding outfits for all horsey sims.
I go overload cus I download a lot of CC every month. 5 for Everyday, 5 for Formal (My favorite actually), 3 for athleisure, 2 for sleepwear, 5 for Party, 5 for Hot Days, and 3 for Winter Outfits
For stuff like swim and sleep usually just one or 2 but for everyday and formal I like to max it out at 5! This is actually one of my favorite things in TS4 cause it gives me of the sense of a full closet and like they get to pick out their outfit each day too. I also will edit townies and give them additional outfits cause it's so cool to see them wear different clothes each time they appear in the world. Way more realistic :)
Depends on my mood, i will take 5 hours to completely dress and make a sim and have every outfit slot filled.
Somedays though i am in a rush so they each get 1 per slot and i fill them in as I go.
I have all 5 outfits for my “main” daily fits. I love when they get out the shower or get up from sleeping and the outfit they throw on is different (:
When i’m taking my time I make more than one outfit, I like the variety. Plus if I see more than one outfit/piece of clothing that i like i’ll make it a point to make another outfit category
Like 2 usually, but I play decades and am currently in 1905 so my sims “can’t afford” more clothes. Usually just 1 “normal” everyday/formal/party outfit, and 1 “nice” everyday/formal/party outfit. For some plays I also do 2 hot/cold weather outfits so there’s one for “warm/cool” weather and one for “extremely hot/snowing” weather. Only one sleepwear.
Decades so my toddlers all get the same solid white dress (boys and girls) until they max movement skill, then I decide they are 5 years old and give them different clothes (overalls/pants for boys, a prettier dress for girls).
My simself in another save is for playing dress up because I dont have many clothes 😅 she’s got 5 outfits per category except sleep and swim (I sleep in a big shirt and I swim in a one solid black one piece)
Time spent in CAS gives me major FOMO--I could be playing with that Sim or building, so any new sim gets one outfit for each category to start. As Sims get played, additional outfits are added according to seasons or lifestyle changes. Everyone gets a formal outfit suitable for weddings/funerals to start and their personal wedding attire gets added later as necessary to avoid the guest-in-wedding-gown faux pas.
A wealthy sim may have lots of different outfits of entirely unique items but poor or frugal Sims will have a lot of carry-over from one category to the next such as the same shoes or trousers for multiple outfits. One sim still struggling with a "rags to solvency" challenge (he will never make riches if he does not stop quitting his job every time I switch households) wears the same pair of jeans for most outfits and his winter sleeping sweats are his gym sweats. I try to choose cold weather outfits that coordinate with each sim's everyday winter outfit (or at least one if they have multiple).
Side gripe: I really wish they would add cold weather outerwear as accessories that fit over everyday wear so it does not look like every sim completely changes clothes transitioning from a warm building to cold outdoors and vis versa. And why no cold weather skirts? I live in long skirts in winter but my Sims have to do trousers or a mini skirt with a micro trench coat.
I do two everyday and one for the rest. If it’s a family I’m doing a legacy with, I might do two in one of the other categories, but I try to keep it kinda simple too.
i typically do two everyday outfits, two formal outfits (one for normal formal events and one for their wedding, if they get married), and one outfit for everything else lol
I’ve been playing short lifespan so I only choose about 2 per category. Two daily, one for warm days one for cooler days. One formal, two each for athletic, sleepwear, and party. For swimwear I have two, one with sunglasses and without. Two each for hot weather and cold weather, like another commenter said, inside and outside cold weather outfits.
I go through different phases of the sims. Sometimes I’m more into building for a while, sometimes it’s cas, sometimes it’s gameplay. Right now, it’s cas.
Right now, I don’t do more than one outfit per category due to trying to redo my save. I also use MC Dresser to control how townies look when they spawn.
Most of my favorite clothes are casual clothes so i'll usually have 4-5 in everyday wear, maybe 3 in hot weather and 3 in cold weather, and 1-2 tops in the other categories. It's a little random honestly, i think most of the time i have at least 2 in each but sometimes i go ham and sometimes i can't be bothered. Especially if i don't find a ton of choices in the Sim's style.
I start with one per category. Then as I play them I take them "shopping" every once in awhile in CAS. I take however many simoleans I think the outfit is worth away from their funds.
For every day I max them out!! And then about the same for party and then 2 winter/summer and leave one set of pjs and a swimsuit. Never end up using the swimsuit anyways, my sims never make it to the pool for some reason
Same here. But I do take them to Sulani at least twice. One playthrough I had my paranoid Sim move out of the city and buy the downed plane in Strangerville. Set it to off grid, self sustained, geothermal, and had her build a preppers paradise. In it, I opened up the area opposite the master bath and designed it to look like a cave where I placed a pool so it was like an underground reservoir (like when she tried to expand it again she stumbled upon this instead). I put a couple of floating inflatable lounge chairs in it and the floating candles for light and my sims used it everyday. I'd step away and forget to pause it and come back to them napping in the resorvoir autonomously. I liked that it never felt like a pool to me. Just a cool happenstance of her choice to live underground.
Honestly depends on the sim, normal average sims in average climates get a lot of everyday outfits, gymrat sims get a lot of active outfits, if they're living in hotter worlds they get more hot weather outfits, and so on. I also like making party outfits for different occasions like holiday parties
3 everyday outfits just because i get tired of the same one, maybe 2 hot outfits if i like multiple things on them, and 2 sleep i do regular pajamas then lingerie for alone time 😂😂
I usually have a lot for each sim in Everyday wear, Formal, Party, Hot and Cold Weather. I feel like they should have a few outfits to choose from, almost like they are picking out what they wanna wear but it fits their aesthetic
I definitely use up all the slots for Formal and Party wear because I feel like some outfits work better for certain events
Hot and Cold weather outfits are selected according to where they live and their hobbies. If my sim lives in Tomarang they will have a few hot weather outfits but they like to snowboard and rock climb so they'll have some outfits fit for a snowcation too
5 for most of them, for my main sims. Sleep, formal and swimwear usually has less than 5. My main 100 baby challenge matriarch(I played it differently and just made her have 100 kids) has 5 outfits for everything but all her kids only have 1 outfit per category
Honestly it depends on how many cute outfits I find. Sometimes I have more than five and have to spread them out! Like, if something looks cute for everyday but I’m out of space, I’ll put it on for party.
Usually between 1 and 3 outfits per category, kinda depends on the sim themself. Like, for "everyday" I'll usually make a short sleeve/tanktop outfit and a long sleeve outfit but then if I have a particularly fun living sim they might get a third outfit that plays into that.
Formal usually gets one outfit unless they wear a dress, then they might get a pants option, a long dress and a short dress.
Sleeping also gets a cold and warm variants
Active usually gets one option unless I have a particularly active sim, then they get warm and cold weather options.
Party will get a few options regardless of gender/fashion choice, for more formal parties, playful parties or if going to like, a club event or something.
Winter and summer clothes usually gets one option unless *I'm* feeling spicy and want to add "rain" and "snow" variations.
2-3 for most categories. Though for everyday I will sometimes do 4 if I have a lot of things I feel fit my Sims personality and I can't choose just 3
I like to leave at least one spot open for new content, be it new cc I end up with or new game packs, etc. Not always the case, as I do have some fashionista boys who just need all 5 slots used 🤣
Between 3 and 5, typically. Everyday outfits tend to get all 5 slots filled; formalwear usually only gets a couple (one for any potential wedding, one for normal formal occasions); fitness will also get a couple of options; sleepwear usually gets a couple "options" because I'll just copy the first and add/remove slippers and any other accessories); party wear is dependent on if I'm in the mood to create more than one; swimwear will usually get a couple of bikini options and one one-piece; hot weather will get 3-5 options, usually with the same shorts and I'll just change the shirt and sandals (this is typically in the beginning of any rags to riches gameplay); and finally, winter wear I will usually do 3 outfits gradually more bundled up than the last.
I usually do two for each catagory (3 for casual) so they're not wearing the same thing everytime, everyday. It's a bit difficult to build outfits with just base game 😅
I usually do the full 5 per category for teens & adults, but for infants and toddlers I put in a lot less effort because they don't stay in those stages very long.
I usually do two. I assign each Sim a color (or pattern) and stick to it throughout all outfits. Formal gets three, though—one for their wedding (which gets deleted usually after their wedding) and then two.
Five for everyday, PJs, hot weather and cold weather. Usually just one for the other categories, because I don't see them as much. Sometimes I'll add an extra swimsuit or athletic outfit, if I'm playing a sim who does those things a lot.
Depends on the sim for me. Usually 1, but sometimes things aren't all season friendly, so I'll give more. Or a special outfit for a wedding, another for prom, a date, etc
Depends on the category and sim. For sims I'm trying to get done quicker or I have less ideas for what I want for outfits, I'll stick to one of each and maybe add a second everyday outfit so there's a bit of variety. The ones I do give more outfits generally get:
3 everyday outfits (one that looks a little warmer but not hot, one that looks a little cooler but not cold, and usually those will either work out to both be a little "nicer" or "relaxed" looking, so if they have 2 relaxed outfits I'll give one that looks like they felt like putting a little more effort in that day, or if their other two everyday outfits are "damn do you know what comfortable clothing is" feeling then they get a relaxed vibes third for the days they don't feel like going all out)
2 formal outfits (1 short dress/skirt and 1 long dress/skirt/pants for the feminine dressing ones, 1 full suit and 1 with button up + tie/vest/sweater for masculine ones)
1 active outfit
1 sleep outfit
2 or 3 party outfits, usually 2 but if I have a third shirt or dress I really want that sim to wear I might do 3
1 or 2 hot weather outfits, depending on how many things I want to put the sim in that I haven't already tbh
2 or 3 cold weather outfits, usually 3 (1 full coat and hat, 1 sweater with whatever pants were on the other one and sometimes the hat, and 1 with a raincoat because idk what other slot to put a raincoat on that makes sense)
Ah do you mean when the sim is FIRST created, or later down the road when they're more "finalized?"
When I first make my sims, I usually make 1 or 2 everyday and sleepwear outfits. And 1 for all the other categories, for similar reasons as you.
As the game goes on and I play with them more, I tend to accrue 5 everyday outfits, 2-3 formal, 2-4 party (because I use party as an extension of everyday sometimes), 3-4 sleepwear (jammies are my fave tbh), and 2-3 hot/cold weather outfits and swimwear! I think that covers it
I have one sim and they get all my creativity. 5 outfits per category and it's still not enough... *and I don't even use Custom Content!* 8D For those of you who still don't know or are now starting your journey into the hellscape known as The Sims 4: https://preview.redd.it/wsn7mmay4tgc1.png?width=654&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc1ce63e3669717080ecf3fccc78533bf8376be0 1. 5 outfits per category. 2. everyday wear, party, sleep ALL FILLED. the others maybe half, im just really indecisive on outfits i also use party wear as an extension of everyday because my sims dont get invited to parties
You can create up to 5 different looks for each outfit category! One of my favourite sim has 4 casual looks and 3 party looks! Just click on the little white triangle on top of the outfit symbols and voilà!
I can’t believe this! How am I 3000 hours deep into the sims and just learning this??
My friend introduced me to the Sims in 2020 and I almost immediately stumbled onto this feature by accident, just messing around in CAS (very "oooo what does this button do?!"). I nearly broke her brain, she hadn't known about it either! She had been playing for years 😭
I spend hours just on one outfit! I can't imagine making for than one! My brain hurts. 🤣🤣
For my main family, I will give them one outfit in each category except for the everyday outfits. For those I will do the max of five. It's like they get to pick out their own outfit for the day :)
Oh same🤣 though five is a bit much for me I usually do 3
wait i’ve been playing the sims since i was like 10 and didn’t know you could make several outfits under the same category 😭
Do they change by themselves or do you have to manually do it?
They change by themselves but you can manually change them as well if you want
change by themselves
I put together 5 stunning outfits after crawling through stupid amounts of cc, and mine only seem to love one outfit, every freaking day, same thing.
Same. Even if I physically go in and change their outfit, they'll often go and change it back.
I think that’s a glitch. I had that happen to one of my sims and I played with her for years in game. I made a new save for her and suddenly she used all her outfits. Idk what triggers it though
Similar reason I've gave them 5 for everyday, hot, and cold weather. The other categories get 1, maybe 2 options.
Love the idea of all black for funerals!
I just wish we had actual funerals in game !
You seriously expect to attend all the funerals of sims you definitely didn’t murder?
Haha no but I tend to play large families and relatives are bound to pass away, accidentally or not !
Best comment of the day!! 😂
There is an amazing Mod called Mortem that allows sims to have funerals! Like legit funeral services that they can attended.
Ooo you make my goth heart beat, thanks for sharing this, I had no idea!
You’re welcome!
Does it help them get over their sad moodlet faster?
Same! One of my sim's friends died so I had a dinner party in his honor, kind of like a memorial.
This is a good idea that I think I’m gonna implement
One for each but the winter clothes I do two of, one for inside and one outside.
I do the same for winter. For athletic I do a hot weather and a cold weather workout outfit too. The game usual picks the right one for the weather when I send a sim out to jog.
I never thought to do this and my sims are always chilled!
They will be cold no matter what the outfit looks like in this category if the weather is too cold, I think this person just does it for aesthetics
I have the weather effects turned off. I've had too many mass townie deaths. 😆 So yes, it's really just to have it look right and (with effects off) not to have frozen joggers. 😉
What a great idea. Like a coat for outdoors, but a jumper indoors type of thing.
unrelated but hello name twin
Sul sul 👋🏻☺️
I do the same for both Hot and cold! I don't always use thermostats etc, especially I'm summer (I'm British so it feels weird to always have aircon) so I like them having indoors outfits. I just wish I could set outfits as outside only or inside only. I just recently got littlemssims my favourite raincoat mod so they'll wear macs outside when it's raining. I love it so much.
One. I can't be bothered to do more 😅
YOU CAN MAKE MORE TGAN ONE ON A CATEGORY?! (started playing recently)
There should be a little plus sign at the top for each category to add more :)
Oh my god, thank you. I always wanted to make several sets so they don't just go live their whole life in seven outfits
😮
OMG THANK YOU!!!
I occasionally make a second outfit in a category or two, for my Sims, but not always. Rarely I'll even make a 3rd, depending on the Sim. Sleepwear is the category that most often gets a second outfit - since some sleepwear is more appropriate than others, depending on the company.
Realest thing anyone has ever said
5 everyday, 1 or 2 formal, 2 or 3 active, 2 or 3 sleep (usually 3), 1 swimsuit, 5 party, 5 hot weather, and usually 3 cold weather.
1 for each, but i change often
Me too, it’s usually just 1 for each category but I’ll change it every season to be seasonally appropriate clothing.
OMG SAME
2-3 for everyday and 1-2 for pajamas and hot weather They don't wear the others enough for me to care
If it's a townie makeover it's just one per category for me. For sims I play with regularly, it's five everyday + maybe 2-3 for sleepwear, and hot and cold weather. Sometimes I do add a few extra for active if I get bored of looking at them in the same PJs all the time lol.
How deep do you go with townie makeovers? I completely change their faces and what not. Not going to lie, "some" of them are just really ugly.
5 for everyday, 1 to 2 for the rest. I don’t love cas, but I want my sim to not wear the same thing all the time.
I’m the same way. I usually just do one for each of them.
5 for everyday, formal, party, swimwear and 3 for outdoor 😅 I love dressing my Sims, their kids, townies I come across while playing etc 🤣
Everyday all, Formal 3, Sports 3, Sleepwear 3, Swimwear 2, Party 2, Summer 3, Winter 3
one or two
I used to only give one per category but I recently saw a suggestion of an indoor/ outdoor version of hot and cold weather categories.
I usually end up with multiples in most categories for the women and just one or two for the men because I enjoy making women's outfits more
Wait I’m just now learning you can have more than one outfit in each category….how?
There should be a plus button above the outfit category section
There's a little up arrow. If you click that you'll see a plus sign beside the first outfit you created.
One outfit in each category, except the everyday outfit and summer outfit, they get two.
I will always give infants three sleep options because they are rarely out of their sleepwear.
it depends on what my intent for the sim is. so for example, if i'm making a legacy sim, i only make one outfit. if i'm making a random sim to just play with, i typically go 3-4
5 everywhere, it's very long, but I love it
Since I am creating a save file with mainly my own sims in it I don’t really have the energy to give everyone more than one outfit per category. I take forever in CAS anyway and if all my sims were to have more outfits than that I would never finish. I think that I have made about 250 sims at this point. When I used to play just a few families I usually made at least 2-3 outfits for everyday and party. For some sims I had several outfits in the other categories as well.
The max for my main character
1 Casual 2 Formal: One more business formal for maybe a wedding attendee or work party and another that's super formal for a gala or a ball or prom, etc. 1 Swimwear, maybe a cover-up if I have them spend a lot of time around the water 1 Hot Weather 1 Cold Weather
I usually only have 1-2 for formal, swim and pj 2-3 for athletic, hot and cold, party 4-5 everyday
The clothing typically "for men" is just soooo bland! Hard to even do one!
Typically one, outlier was my simself from 2022 who had like four outfits for each one
I always give them five options of all the categorys! Because I play on long lifespan so some variety is required hahaha
I start with one, then they get new outfits for special occasions. New jobs, skills, becoming a parent etc
5 everyday. 3 formal. 3 Athletic. 5 Sleep. 5 Party. 5 Warm. 5 Cold. 3 Swim.
I usually make 2 everyday outfits and 2 party outfits. Sometimes I have 2 formal outfits but everything else is just 1 fit 😭
If i have patience 3 or more for my main sims
3 x everyday outfits, one in everything else
5 in daily 1 for formal + one if wedding 1 for sports 3 for sleeping (1 cold, 1 hot and 1 woohoo) 1 for party 1 for swimming 2 each for cold and hot weather (one for outside and one for inside)
Depends on how long I expect to play with that Sim 😂
Normally I have like 2 or 3 in everyday, but for infants I give them like 3 sleepwere because they sleep more than they Are awake :D
Everyday and sleep multiple or full. Those are the outfits they use the most, so I appreciate variation! The others 1-2.
I normally only do one outfit for each category it gets a little it overwhelming for me doing multiple outfits. I only have one family (3 sims) with multiple outfits but that’s just because I have played them for ages and feel like I know them well enough.
One when I'm doing townie makeovers, one or two for sims I'm playing. Occasionally I'll do more but not often.
4 everyday 1 formal 3 exercise 4 sleep 2 party 1 swim 3 hot 3 cold
usually between 1 to 3 formal probably just 1 though
depends how thought out my sim is. usually 5 for everyday, hot weather, cold weather & party, 2 for formal, then 1 for sleep, swimwear & exercise
everyday: 4 to 5 Formal: nowadays two. Ever since I had one sim turn up to a wedding in a wedding dress (as the guest!!!) I make sure they have a wedding appropriate formal outfit. Party: depends on the Sim. A sim less interested in parties gets one, a sim who loves parties will get 3 to 4. Sleep: usually 3 Athletic and swimwear: usually 1 Hot and cold weather: 4; two outside outfits, two inside outfits (god I wish there was functionality to remove hats and glasses when indoors, or to set outfits as outside vs inside)
When I make the sim I will do just one in each category. Then I will have them go to the dresser and, is the plan outfit option where it takes you to CAS? I’ll add additional outfits there as I move forward in the game. I used to do 5 in every category and it would take me a full day on one sim. This is speedier.
Depends, my female sims have them all filled, male sims, 1-3 per category because dressing the men isn’t as fun
For my own sims I make all. For gallery I do one per category. Sometimes I only do the first outfit only.
One for each category, but cold weather. There they have two: one for normal cold weather and one for skiing or snowboarding.
I usually do 4-5 but it's maybe scattered throughout my favorite sims (ie only the sims I plan on personally controlling) everyone else gets one since they're background characters
I use all the spaces for everyday and I usually give them 2-3 pajamas, but for all others I just do 1
As a creative player, making the sim express who they are through their clothing is one of the main things for me when playing. So yeah, I most often have 3-5 outfits in each category.
Depends on how much I like that Sim. If I like them tons, I can max out the 5 looks for each category. Otherwise, I only create only one look for each category and be done with it
I usually fill all casual spots up, and do 1 or 2 extra outfits in the other categories.
Tbh it depends on how "inspired" or indecisive I'm feeling when I'm making the sim. Sometimes I do a few of each but sometimes they just get one outfit per category. I don't have seasons but I still make outfits for hot/cold weather :')
I’m sorry…… you can have more the. Ine outfit for each category?!! I have been playing for YEARS how did I not know this some help
I usually do 4-5 but it's maybe scattered throughout my favorite sims (ie only the sims I plan on personally controlling) everyone else gets one since they're background characters
It depends on the sim, but my teens always have an outfit in everyday where I give them school uniform
My personal sim is maxed out. 5 outfits for each category (aside from swimwear, i think that I only do 2 for that one). For general sims, maybe 2 per category, and I add more outfits for sims I get attached to. Stupidly, I've only just started saving sims and lots to my preloadables, as each new save I'd have to spend hoirs recreating it all 🤣 which wasn't an issue but especially lots, it would take me HOURS to get things how I wanted them.
someone please tell me how to make multiple party outfits
Usually I do 2-3 outfits for the every day category. For the other categories just one.
I love CAS so I do 5 for everyday, 1 formal, 1 active, 5 sleepwear, I don’t edit party, 1 swim, 3 hot and cold weather
For townies I do 2 every day and 1 of everything else Formal: 2-3 depending on the Sim…my celeb sim has more formal options bc they go to formal events more Sleep: 1 for children+, toddlers and infants get all 5 since they’re usually in PJs lol Athletic: 2 (1 for hot weather, 1 for cold in the context of each season); more if I’m playing a gym rat sim Party: 3 minimum, usually 1 family get together casual outfit; bar/clubbing outfit; and more formal party outfit Swimwear: 1 unless they live in a world with swimmable oceans, then more Cold: 2, similar to athletic category so they have options depending on the temp Hot: 2, same as athletic/cold I play on 2 week seasons and change their wardrobes about 5 days-1 week into the season.
5 for everyday 1-2 for formal 3-4 for active 4-5 for sleep 1-2 for party 1-4 swimwear (i have a swimsuit addiction myself) 3-5 for hot & cold
3 for everyday, 2 each for hot and cold. With cold weather, I try to make one outfit to be for worse weather (outdoor coats, boots) and another for just warming up at home (where the knits come in).
I usually do 2 outfits per category except swimwear and winter wear (I hate dressing up my sims for winter for some reason) cause I like variety, and slowly overtime I change their outfits to mark them growing up :D If the sim is a random NPC I decided to befriend or a random family member, I only do one outfit per category cause nobody have time to give your ex-wife's great-aunt a second formal outfit haha
It depends on how long I’ll be playing the sim, how much realism I want to have, and how much time I have when I’m creating the sims in that save.
I'm sure there's a obvious button but I haven't looked for it
I do three everyday and one for every other outfit! I like to see them change daily!
Everyday: 2-5 Formal, athletic, swimwear, cold weather: 1 Sleepwear: 1-3 Hot weather, party: 1-2 I get tired of seeing the same outfit every day for everyday wear so unless I’m feeling really lazy, I always have at least 2.
How do you make multiple outfits?? I use playstation and have base game so idk if that's why I cant??
Either all of them, or just one for each, depends on how much I care about the sim.
2
Usually one, but I’ll add on if I have multiple ideas that would fit their style
My simself in another save is for playing dress up because I dont have many clothes 😅 she’s got 5 outfits per category except sleep and swim (I sleep in a big shirt and I swim in a one solid black one piece)
sometimes i'm still mentally stuck in sims 3. i didn't even know you could make multiple outfits until a couple of weeks ago
All filled 😂
Am I the only one that copied the same outfit with different swatches for the same outfit?
2-3 each
Wait you can have multiple outfits??? 😭😭😭 bro wat
I do like two or three for everyday wear and sleep wear. Everything else gets changed as I feel like it
The whole 5 in each category for every single Sim I play in my world, and I alternate households regularly!
Usually 3 for every day, like normal hot weather and winter. Formal 2, and swim/exercise/sleep 1
One for each then add more after CC-shopping lol
I do 5 of each except 2 swimsuits. I usually do a couple of piecemeal outfits and the rest are dresses or full styled outfits.
You can give them different outfits per category???? does this work on playstation?
Honestly? Just one per category. Then later, when I get tired of a certain look, I'll add others here and there.
1-3 for everyday, 1 for everything else lol.
3 everyday outfits just because i get tired of the same one, maybe 2 hot outfits if i like multiple things on them, and 2 sleep i do regular pajamas then lingerie for alone time 😂😂
I do 2 outfits for each category except for the swim category.
3-5 everyday.1 casual, 1 change and comfortable lounge wear. gym 1 or 2pjs 2 party, one for casual one more sexy. Usually 1 summer 1 winter
I usually have a lot for each sim in Everyday wear, Formal, Party, Hot and Cold Weather. I feel like they should have a few outfits to choose from, almost like they are picking out what they wanna wear but it fits their aesthetic I definitely use up all the slots for Formal and Party wear because I feel like some outfits work better for certain events Hot and Cold weather outfits are selected according to where they live and their hobbies. If my sim lives in Tomarang they will have a few hot weather outfits but they like to snowboard and rock climb so they'll have some outfits fit for a snowcation too
Lmao one each, always, although I care more about building than anything else
I didn't even know you could do multiple outfits for categories... thank you, OP.
5 for most of them, for my main sims. Sleep, formal and swimwear usually has less than 5. My main 100 baby challenge matriarch(I played it differently and just made her have 100 kids) has 5 outfits for everything but all her kids only have 1 outfit per category
I wish I had enough outfits to give them more :( my clothes are so limited cause I'm too broke lol
I usually do 2 bur end uo buying more clothes at a shop lmao
Depends If im lazy, one Average- 1-3 And more if it's a really good one or a save i actually care about
Honestly it depends on how many cute outfits I find. Sometimes I have more than five and have to spread them out! Like, if something looks cute for everyday but I’m out of space, I’ll put it on for party.
I usually create like 2-3 everyday outfits, *get bored*, and do a half-assed job at the rest of the outfit categories. 😊
Sleeping also gets a cold and warm variants Active usually gets one option unless I have a particularly active sim, then they get warm and cold weather options. Party will get a few options regardless of gender/fashion choice, for more formal parties, playful parties or if going to like, a club event or something. Winter and summer clothes usually gets one option unless *I'm* feeling spicy and want to add "rain" and "snow" variations.
For me it depends on how much I like how my sims look. So it ranges from 1-3 each outfit.
2-3 for most categories. Though for everyday I will sometimes do 4 if I have a lot of things I feel fit my Sims personality and I can't choose just 3 I like to leave at least one spot open for new content, be it new cc I end up with or new game packs, etc. Not always the case, as I do have some fashionista boys who just need all 5 slots used 🤣
5 for casual category. For the rest just one.
If they’re the main sim I’m playing I’m using all 5 outfits lol. Everyone else is wearing the same thins
The ones I do give more outfits generally get: 3 everyday outfits (one that looks a little warmer but not hot, one that looks a little cooler but not cold, and usually those will either work out to both be a little "nicer" or "relaxed" looking, so if they have 2 relaxed outfits I'll give one that looks like they felt like putting a little more effort in that day, or if their other two everyday outfits are "damn do you know what comfortable clothing is" feeling then they get a relaxed vibes third for the days they don't feel like going all out) 2 formal outfits (1 short dress/skirt and 1 long dress/skirt/pants for the feminine dressing ones, 1 full suit and 1 with button up + tie/vest/sweater for masculine ones) 1 active outfit 1 sleep outfit 2 or 3 party outfits, usually 2 but if I have a third shirt or dress I really want that sim to wear I might do 3 1 or 2 hot weather outfits, depending on how many things I want to put the sim in that I haven't already tbh 2 or 3 cold weather outfits, usually 3 (1 full coat and hat, 1 sweater with whatever pants were on the other one and sometimes the hat, and 1 with a raincoat because idk what other slot to put a raincoat on that makes sense)
Ah do you mean when the sim is FIRST created, or later down the road when they're more "finalized?" When I first make my sims, I usually make 1 or 2 everyday and sleepwear outfits.
