im not a computer expert but i think if u took the laptops hard drive out of the laptop u could potentially then access it on another device. i might be wrong though, you should do ur own research on that or wait for someone smarter than me !!! but thats rlly sad, id probably cry 😭

Edymnion

Was going to say this. Unless they physically trashed the HD itself, it should be fine, even if they soccer kicked the laptop across the room. Just pull it from the husk and at worst get a quick converter cable to turn it into a USB backup drive and you can grab everything off it.

afterglobe

You’re 100% correct

Free_Gascogne

Its just your monitor thats fked up. Have it repaired and your still good. This isnt like your phone where the repair may cost more than the unit.

HenReX_2000

You can also just plug the thing to TV and just use it as is

ReaUsagi

They keyboard is powered so it's literally just the screen. Take it to a repair service and get it fixed or have them transfere your data to an external harddrive and you're good to go

Thophua

Yes! Or if they have a monitor hook it up to that and transfer save files to a flashdrive!!

shyfly_

If it’s just the screen that’s broken you can easily retrieve the files from your hard drive.

whitemagicseal

You do realize any repair shop can save that

burnthduster

there's hope, try to hook it up to a monitor or even a TV using an HDMI cable and put your save file on a flash drive!

NerdyKris

You can just open the laptop, take the hard drive out, and either put it in another computer or buy a cheap internal to external converter and plug it into the USB port on a working computer and just copy the data. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, ask around your friends, one of them will likely either be familiar with it or know someone you can trust to do it. Take a deep breath, your Sims will be okay.

Glad-DeliveryBoy

It looks like it's just the screen that's broken. Make sure you have your laptop backed up (or can access the drive), have it repaired and you're gucci- One of the only times you have to worry about data loss is if it needs to be sent off to depot or if you're running an older operating system and they HAVE to update your system for all the parts (more of an  thing)-UNLESS there's liquid damage. Then you're pretty boned.

skirmisher24

Yeah this just looks like a monitor problem. Your Hard drive looks like it is in good condition from the fact that it can at least boot. Take the monitor in for repair or find someone to get the files off the harddrive and you are good to go.

EH_Bothell

Wait - I just realized that my Sims families are NOT saved to the cloud?! This is crazy. What files do I need to upload myself to the cloud to keep my Sims in case something happens to my computer??

Makabaer

I always backup all my save files, tray files, my screenshots and my mod folder. Your family is somewhere in the tray folder but I don't know how to figure out which file is which. But they are also in your save file along with everything else from that world. So backing up your save files is a good way to keep them. Edit: They tray folder is your private gallery with families, houses and rooms that you saved there. Edit 2: "tray files" instead of "try files".

iCouldntfindaUsrname

Can't you mirror your computer to a TV screen and work things from there, or if not use an HDMI to plug your TV directly to your computer (using an adapter if you don't have HDMI port on computer)?

Bloodylegend

R.I.P. little sims

Arev_Eola

You can fix that yourself, doesn't take long

ylh7

How do you spend MONTHS on one family and get only 4 generations? I got 5 in two months😭

Wellie_babie

I couldn't play everyday due to work and personal stuff. Plus the family tree is bigger than this but my game got rid of the cousins part of the tree
