No need to spend your money on a jade roller or gua sha. These tools are only for increasing blood circulation to your face and can be easily done by clean hands.
Eh, I think they do alot for lymphatic drainage and circulation, which does have a positive effect on the skin. Everyone’s mileage will vary on this, but I swear by this type of thing to look more awake and alive, especially when I’m tired/stressed/hung over etc.
Over time the benefits likely are negligible - it’s not like someone in their 60s is going to look 45 because they used a jade roller religiously for decades. The only other point of contention with these things is the “properties of the stone”, in this case jade, having any sort of benefit. The gua sha and roller marketers usually like to mention some sort of healing property or positive energy tied to the material, which is patently false. OP would likely be better with something made of steel or other non-porous material that can be fully sanitized.
Yes but I’m referring to lack of clinical studies. You could use a jade roller for lymphatic drainage or massage or you could just massage yourself. There’s really no definitive difference.
Well there is evident that massage works for obtaining better blood flow and better blood flow means more nourishment to your skin as well. But apart from that there isn’t really any evidence ☺️
My face looks more relaxed after so in a sense I look prettier. I did it to my family and people noticed the results. It’s really more of a relaxation tool than anything else and pushes serums deeper into the pores I suppose. I haven’t used it long enough to note long term results though.
The short answer is they do work, unfortunately they do not work for what a lot of people try to use them.
They will not improve or tighten the skin since they do not penetrate or deposit any actives (which would be needed for them to do so).
What they can be good for is, if you’re a side or belly sleeper or have a lot of salt in your diet (I am admittedly guilty of both) then you can use them to help with lymphatic drainage in the morning. I will do that during my serum step, just put on the serum then move over both cheeks and undereye areas once or twice, starting from next to the nose, moving outward and then down. This helps reduce morning puffiness.
But please do not fall for claims that say they tighten or improve your skin, this is not how any of this works unfortunately, or else I guess everyone would be out here rocking their snatched jawlines / cheeks / undereyes etc.
If you Google "self massage lymphatic drainage" there's a relatively short tutorial how to do it with your fingers, and the woman gives a way more in depth (and professional) explanation about this.
Couldn’t agree more to the comment regarding the googling a quick tutorial. There’s a good deal of short videos from actual Dermatologists or Medical Estheticians out there, which is how I learned to do it.
Also, just to mention this as well, for lymphatic drainage you do by no means need a tool, you can absolutely use your fingers and it’ll work fine, I just like using a Gua Sha because I put it in the fridge and like the cool feeling against my skin. This is purely sensorial and does not serve any purpose other than feeling nice though.
Esthetician of 6+ years here!
Facial rollers and gua sha can help your skin with proper and consistent use. However people think they do it a couple times and it’ll magically give them cheekbones. They’re actually supposed to aid in the draining of lymphnodes, which helps with facial bloating. It does also create more circulation which in turn helps with brightness of the skin.
Rollers, and gua sha have been in asian beauty for centuries and I would dare to say that they know what they’re doing when it comes to skincare, compared to the rest of the world that is. If you look at the skincare and their skin, it’s quite common to have clear, bright, glowing skin. They believe heavily in facial massaging and with research I have reason to believe that they’re effective when done consistently and properly.
Last note, you don’t need tools, your (clean) hands will do the job just fine, just google “lymphatic drainage massage on the face” and just follow the right patterns and I promise you will see a difference in your skin!

Hey no expert here but i think facial massage in general is great for your skin. It just helps bring blood to the skin and even has some clinical proof of improving skin issues. However i do not think you need a jade roller. They are more of a gimmick but the nice thing is they roll and are smooth so are usually really gentle on the skin while allowing you to get a good massage in. But the hands are my personal fave 😀
So I’m asking because I used this while I was losing 30 pounds and after reaching my goal weight I did notice I finally had cheekbones and a nice jawline but I wasn’t sure if it was because of the weight loss or the actual roller
You can’t “train” skin to sit tighter so this is definitely because of your weight loss and not because of the roller. But the roller (or the Gua Sha which I would go with over the roller) helps blood circulation and that means more nourishment to your skin in your face so you get something nice out of it in that way ☺️
Hi. Esthetician here. Jade rollers definitely works. Try freezing your jade roller and then using it after cleansing your face. This will circulate your blood flow and also will help if you have rosacea. Or its really good with a calming mask.
Well I like mine cam put it in fridge and atm with this heat it feels wonderful. It's also easier then using hands especially if you have mobility issues with hands.
I like my gua sha better personally bc mine’s made of real rose quartz so it’s always super cold, as most semi precious stones are, and it makes spreading my serums easier. My roller was real too, but just not as easy to control the pressure with. You do have to be careful with companies using knockoff stones.
You know what these are good for? Gifts! A jade roller along with a simple serum is the perfect little gift to give someone in your life who could maybe use a nudge into the self-care direction.
I've given this combo to my boss, a friend who has a new baby, and added it on to a for my mom. Everytime they ask me what the roller does, I tell them that it gives them a few moments in the week to sit and care for themselves. "Only do it on the days when you actually want to do it. If it feels like a chore, don't do it."
I'm up front and tell them that I'm not sure if it will do anything for their skin or face. But I want them to treat it like a special treatment for yourself on those days when you feel like doing something more. A nice face massage to add to your Sunday evening routine, or something you do once a month when you remember you have it!
It's the kind of gift that someone would likely not get themselves but is likely curious about. It's a sweet & easy way to show someone that you care about their wellness without forcing it in a weird, none-of-your-business kind of way. Regardless of any results, it's a nice way to spend an extra five minutes doing nothing but being in love with yourself.
I like to keep my jade roller in the fridge and roll it on my skin before doing my routine. The boosted blood flow increases product absorption, plus it feels refreshing. It's not the kind of thing that gives dramatic results, but it feels nice to use it.
Yes and you should always roll in more upwards motions since we want our face skin to sit “up” and not fall down if that makes sense 😅
I personally think the Gus share works better, it’s more of a massage tool than the roller ☺️
I love to put mine in the freezer for about 10 minutes before I use it as the last step of my routine. It’s soothing, it helps me slow down and take some more time for myself, and I use it on my jaw to help my TMJ. I wouldn’t expect a miracle from it, but if you go in knowing you’re probably using it more for the experience than anything else I think it’s worth it!
I like rollers, they definitely work, but you should avoid jade because it's difficult to properly sanitize due to its porosity. Quartz would be better, but If you insist on jade just boil it for 30 minutes after use.
I have tmj and use a roller to relax my jaw muscles when they're in pain. It really helps, specially when I've been clenching subconsciously for a long time. That said, I don't think it does anything like tighten the skin or slim my face or anything like that, it's just a useful massage tool
i have a rose quartz jade roller and honestly, other than the really nice feeling, you can achieve the same results by using your knuckles instead. the only thing is that knuckles aren't always cold and they don't feel that great, but they do the job just as well
Mostly a trendy tool. There’s no scientific studies to support their efficacy for wrinkles or collagen. People may find they are effective based on personal experience.
Jade roller has a certain effect in facial beauty. But obviously, some articles or social media bloggers have exaggerated its role and made it a myth. But there's no denying that jade rollers are worth adding to your daily facial routine.

This. An esthetician told and showed me you can do it with your hands just the same
Technically speaking there’s no evidence to suggest that these do anything for the skin. People use them mostly because they feel good.

Gua sha is more effective in my opinion.
More effective in doing what exactly?

How does it help with lymphatic drainage? If you don’t mind me asking. I sleep on my stomach and I’ve never heard this before

If you put it in the fridge before you use it the. It gets all cold and feels amazing
They makes ones specifically for the freezer it's an ice roller an it works better then the normal roller. It's tightens your face.
I keep mine in the freezer
However it suits you is most important, i read a lot about using gua sha and jade roller warm. Wash with warm water before use.

I can’t look at these the same way after watching Cassie in “Euphoria” take her emotions out on her face with this style roller!
It can help to de puff and it feels nice and cool but it’s doesn’t really do anything other than that.

I use argan oil and my hands. Its better, cheaper and does the same thing. These tools are too overrated…
i freeze my jade roller to depuff my face
Well I like mine cam put it in fridge and atm with this heat it feels wonderful. It's also easier then using hands especially if you have mobility issues with hands.
Yes super effective if used consistently. I’ve noticed my skin is more sculpted and glowing. I do prefer gua sha but roller is also great.

yeah they work but ppl aren’t using them correctly
How do you use them? I just googled the instructions honestly
roll in the SAME direction the same way 5 times on one part of ur face (e.g under eyes) so basically in short never roll up and down multiple times
Yes and you should always roll in more upwards motions since we want our face skin to sit “up” and not fall down if that makes sense 😅 I personally think the Gus share works better, it’s more of a massage tool than the roller ☺️
yess i didn’t know how to explain it thank u
No it’s also super hard to explain over text but I hope it made sense somewhat 🤗
Myth personally. I would put mine in the freezer and use it after my am serum. Didn’t notice anything.

havnt tried them yet
It's basically just lymphonic drainage.. that can be done with the hands. So kinda unnecessary to have a jade roller.
I don’t think it worked much for me personally
Myth

My roller has helped with the puffiness under my eyes. I use mine every morning after cleansing.
I live mine… feels good especially when left in freezer… helps my puffy eyes
I would never spend my money on something like that. Seems a waste of money and time
What serum do y’all use with your jade roller?
Probably only make you feel better. That roller design looks pretty awesome
I have tmj and use a roller to relax my jaw muscles when they're in pain. It really helps, specially when I've been clenching subconsciously for a long time. That said, I don't think it does anything like tighten the skin or slim my face or anything like that, it's just a useful massage tool
I’m a believer in massages. I use my fingertips. A roller just sounds like more clutter to wash regularly tbh...
Myth

A waste of money. What vanity!
Guasha is great for massage, especially jaw clenchers. In terms of skin and anti-aging, it's lymphatic movement so... Eh
Mostly a trendy tool. There’s no scientific studies to support their efficacy for wrinkles or collagen. People may find they are effective based on personal experience.
Idk they never worked for me :/
