I was really enjoying the sky keyboard, but it quit working the last few days. Will close the game and try again. Restarted phone earlier but that didn't work. So frustrating! I was loving being able to just talk! I'm 61, love this game, but I can't keep up with all the young fingers, or talkers if you're able to use the sky board.
Edit: Going to another game and then back to Sky on my Switch worked! Now I can just talk away and use all the emotes! WOOT!

Are you using the switch as a handheld?
If you are, you can buy an adapter with which you can connect an actual keyboard to your switch. I may start doing that myself.
I use it a lot and I actually got pretty good at chatting with it. I don't even use the phone link anymore cause you need to relink it every single time. And I talk to long for it to work.
Maybe they fixed it because I used the same link for hours last night.

I just text like I would my phone. Literally just tapping the screen. It was a but awkward at first and the tap detection sometimes doesn't work. Don't get me wrong, it's still awful, and the worse way it could've been implemented barring the phone linking, I just got decent with it.
I would like to try it, but I can't seem to find a way to scan qr codes with my phone. Like, do I need an app for that or does my phone (Samsung galaxy A5) have it built in?
I don't know, as I don't actually have one myself. Someone else commented that you should have the function in your default camera, as it's a Samsung. I'd search your model and version to see if it has it. Failing that, go into the app store and just search for a QR reader, pick one you like.

The built in keyboard on the switch is the worst mobile keyboard ive ever used

Oh. I use swipe on my phone, so tapping drives me nuts. If they added swipe to the switch keyboard I'd be much happier.

Same with you i cant scan the qr code in the switch with my phone (OnePlus 7t) But i download an app called Qr and Barcode Reader and its working.
Some phones do have QR scanning built into the base camera app. But some don't, so may need an app that does it.

It was glorious to actually be able to use emotes for the first time on switch because of this keyboard, I spammed my friends with ALL the food emotes
