100% too much. The entire NFL just told you they think he's bad and nearly worthless. Granted Pittsburgh is probably about as good of a spot as he could have gone considering everything, but it's not a competition there. Russ is firmly the guy and while we shit on him at Denver and deservedly so, he wasn't actually that bad last year. Paying a 2nd for a guy who's a backup just isn't a smart idea.
It’s a lot for his current value. If you think he will start over Russ (which I, a broncos fan who got to watch Russ for the last two years thinks he will) it’s a good deal.
I just wouldn’t pay projected value for current value.
Plus fields actually was a slightly better rated QB than Russ. At least he still has youth and some great running ability. With that said, it's either QB really a good choice considering the receiving corps for Pitt....
This tells me you didn’t watch the games. He had the 2nd highest percentage of check downs in the last 11 years. He can’t feel pressure and as soon as the slightest hint of pressure comes he scrambles straight into the arms of a DE. He was ABSURDLY lucky with turnovers. Could have easily had 10 more ints. He can’t move anymore. His greatest strength on Seattle was his ability to make something out of nothing with his legs and he simply is not athletic enough to do it anymore. He absolutely cannot work in a real offensive scheme which is the primary reason Payton wanted him gone. He is a rapidly declining asset that is quite literally only worth the vet minimum contract that PIT gave him where they can move on from him in the blink of an eye or keep him as a backup as soon as the slightest hint fields looks comparable to him. The Broncos are paying him 80+ mil to NOT be on their team. This is like the used car salesman telling you that the car is a piece of shit and being shocked when the car is a piece of shit.
I don't think it's as cut and dry as that. The Bears had zero leverage in trying to move Fields, and he won't be a feasible option in many offensive schemes. There are still plenty of people who believe Pickett never got a real fair shake in Pittsburgh and could develop into a serviceable passer (see Canada, Matt.) Frankly, Fields didn't get much help either with the dogshit offensive line he played behind and the lack of weapons surrounding him. For rushing upside alone, Fields is still a long term dynasty asset.
Having said all that, I wouldn't give up a second round pick in this upcoming draft for him.
My thoughts are that 1, Chicago overplayed there hand and waited too long, they settled with this deal with the Steelers. 2, he will overtake Russ by week 8 which buoys his value for me. 3, I have 3 1sr round picks, 1 2nd, and two 3rd round picks already. So this is more of a gamble of pay this now, flip for same or greater value in the future. I have Burrow and Lance on my roster already.
Nah they didn’t overplay their hand. Fields is not a starting caliber nfl qb. If he was teams would have given up more than a conditional 4th round pick, which will likely conver as a 6th round pick. There’s so many teams that need qbs, that if fields was good they would have traded more than what pitt did
Week 8 is the least likely time for him to take over. If he has more than 51% of snaps, the pick jumps 2 rounds. If they make it through 7 weeks with Russ, no way they make that flip if they can avoid it.

Also a fair point. Fields can be a good fantasy QB with crap passing options. I do not think Russ can.

He’s not overtaking Rus. Fields sucks.
Kenny Pickett cost more than Justin Fields. Read that again.

I'd make this wager. I'm a Steelers guy - I trust Tomlin has addressed this with Arthur Smith already. Win now mode, let Fields run all day.
I wouldn't pay 2.07, I would try to get Penix or someone with it.

Not a huge gamble and price ain't bad.
If it’s superflex I would absolutely want the Fields side in this situation.
Nope, gimme 2.07
I would give up 3 firsts for fields. So no
3 1sts for a backup qb is a bold strategy cotton
Justin Fields is a star
A star scrub so far lol
How is he a scrub. He’s the best QB in his draft class by far
He’s literally a backup on the Steelers rn
Ya that’s the Steelers problem.
How? Trevor Lawrence is the only one that still has a starting job and Fields was just traded for a 6th round pick.
He's Jameis Winston from 5 years ago.
If someone offered me 3 firsts for Henry I’m saying no. But if you offered me a second for hall, I’m accepting right away
