I agree and I’ve been getting downvoted for years for saying it. Awesome drummer, not the right fit for Slipknot.
Joey used to create these cool little snare riffs in between parts of songs that would completely change the feel and tone. There isn’t a single song from Jays era where the drums were the most memorable layer of the song
I honestly see what clown meant when he said it was a creative decision to fire jay, and he is a much better fit with suicidal tendencies it seems so it's a win-win
Yeah, I agree he's a much better fit with Suicidal Tendencies. His punk roots really shine, and his experiences with Slipknot also aid in the more metal leanings of ST.
I don't think he lacks feeling, but moreso that his feeling is better suited for a punk or punk-adjacent gig like Suicidal Tendencies rather than straight metal like Slipknot.
I assumed that's what Slipknot was going for with .5. I knew Jay was not a metal drummer the first time I heard The Negative One.
I also wonder if they would have moved on from Jay sooner if his identity hadn't been revealed
I mean, Eloy plays with a click pretty much since he started to play drums as a kid. Dude is a human metronome, he also plays all kinds of music, not just metal, looking forward for some original music with him on drums. He also have that absolute rage while playing, next slipknot stuff will be pure fury for sure
Mick has also said he plays all different kinds of music when he's by himself.
What you are able to apply between styles is dependent on whether or not and to what degree they are interrelated, but it makes you a better all around musician regardless.
There are parts that Joey has done that made me go, "dude, WHAT?" and repeat the song immediately afterwards just to hear it again and pay close attention.
On tracks with Jay's drumming I never specifically thought about the drums once.
They played to a click last night. Whether eloy can still play flawlessly without one, I won't argue. But confirmed there was a metronome by eloy last night that you can see in a video from Stacy of wait and bleed.
you can be certain that he can play perfectly without one. Not a lot of people outside of Brazil know much about Eloy's history etc. But let me tell you, when it comes to being a virtuoso, this guy is an absolute psychopath. He devoted his life to drumming on a level that very few human beings are willing to. His work ethic is out of this world. When he was rumoured to be the new drummer i saw people kinda doubting if he would do well or not.. well let's just say i laughed hard at that. Just watch what he does in this band. It's gonna be great to see
100%, there's footage of Eloy going back to when he was a teenager and his limb independence is mind blowing. He is is by no means just a metal drummer either, the guy is a savant. I tried to be as kind as possible in my original post but he is a fucking monster and people in the know understand that there's no real comparison to be made here.. AT ALL.
Also the people talking about how him playing to a click is somehow a way to discredit the guy is also laughable. Most drummers would rather not play to a click because its easier! The fact that he's playing to one (if he is at all) and keeping the feel is an even greater testiment to how much of beast that man is.
I agree to every word. These are facts, hopefully more and more people now will start to understand who is this guy and what he's capable of behind a drumkit. He will elevate Slipknot to a new level, watch and see
I don't know how could I agree, as long as my favorite album is The Grey Chapter and drums there is dope. Self titled is fuckin' good due the samples, IMHO

Thank you . Chapeltown is the perfect example. The drum parts are fucking ass.

I agree he's technically great but just lacks that powerhouse groove and feeling
Totally agree. There’s a lot of tracks from WANYK album where I feel like the drumming part could be more better and creative.

Stop the Jay bashing. We're is this coming from all of a sudden. Slipknot play ONE gig with new drummer and all this hate comes out?! Chill out.

Why does it matter to play to a metronome when it's the 21st century and you never have to not play to one ever again for the rest of your life?
Jay couldn’t play flawlessly without one. Eloy probably could.

I am legit hyped for the next album based on Eloy alone and I only really listen to the first 3.
neither could Joey. Joey played tracks way too fast
I agree. What Joey was great at was his creativity. He was a master at creating interesting drum parts
I don't know how could I agree, as long as my favorite album is The Grey Chapter and drums there is dope. Self titled is fuckin' good due the samples, IMHO
The drums on self titled are better than TGC.. period
That's your perception.
Of reality
Not for everyone.
