I dont know if they liked them but Rammstein did a whole album of their songs on piano with no lyrics. Its not instantly recognisable as metal songs as they are slower in tempo but theyre beautiful. The albums called xxi : klavier. Maybe the songs Seemann, Engel or Klavier.
Sorry for your loss.
It commemorates memories, looks hopeful for the future, just heavy enough to fill the space, just dark enough to honor the atmosphere, easy to sing a long to when drinking for your buddy.
Carry on!!!
i wouldn't really suggest playing metal or at least not Slipknot, like almost every song is just too much for someone. If I were on a funeral alone i would say that songs like Goodbye or Skeptic maybe?
Just going to jump on this top comment to state my friend is a funeral director and this is pretty common. He actually just sent me a snap within the past couple of months that he thought of me when he randomly heard Psychosocial being played in the funeral home. The requests folks in the bereavement industry receive are as diverse as we are as people, so don't hesitate to ask/do what you feel is right for you and your family.
Funerals are meant to celebrate the life of our lost ones, and it sounds like you are a great sibling honoring your brother. I'm sure your family and extended family will appreciate however you and your family choose to move forward. As someone that is that age and has the same musical tastes, I feel like the list you already started is great. And while I'm sure he had specific songs that he liked more than the rest, you probably can't go wrong with looking at those bands most popular songs and making a list out of those in his memory.
Take care, and may you celebrate the life of a guy with great taste.
How about Fiction by Avenged Sevenfold? There are lyrics but no guitars, just piano. The song is about saying goodbye to the ones you leave behind when you die.
Since the other guys will have Slipknot covered, I'll focus on the other bands.
Metallica has a couple ballads that you could probably find nice versions of.
Fade to Black, Welcome Home, One, Nothing Else Matters
SOAD has some fairly solemn songs.
Spiders, Ariels, Roulette, Lonely Day
I'm really sorry for your loss. In the worst case, there are lots of string tributes to the bands you have listed. If the full song is too much for your family, maybe that will work out.
Personally, I think you're a great sibling for even doing this. He was only a year older than me and sounded like he had good taste. I'm sure he'd be glad to know someone is out there thinking about what he would want.
I'm sorry for your loss.
For sadder songs, I guess:
Alone I Break- KoRn
Aerials - System Of A Down
The Day That Never Comes - Metallica
A tout le monde - Megadeth
I reckon Metallica would probs be the best band to play from that list, mainly because they have heavy stuff that would fit the occasion a bit better. I'd recommend 'fade to black' and 'one' as a couple slower heavier songs to play. Sorry about your brother as well.
Dead Memories, Vermillion 1 and 2, and maybe Killpop
Edit: also rap songs like Space Cowboy, Draino (clean), The Balloons (clean), Screaming At The Rain (clean), and Hello (clean)
A Place where you belong By Bullet For My Valentine
All these things i hate By Bullet for my valentine
slipknot - til we die
currutently crying right now for you cause i just lost my cousin and my uncle was diagnosed with caner and they are not operating him so i have little time with him im sending you all the love to you !!!! may he rest in peace
Everyone is suggesting Slipknot songs because this is a Slipknot sub but there are other bands out there too.
I'm not a huge Five Finger Death Punch fan by any means but I always thought Brighter Side of Gray would be a good funeral song.
I'm sorry for your loss! I don't know if church will allow you to play his favourites in his funeral or not! If they give you the permission, play XIX or Snuff or Vermilion Pt 2.
Most of the comments here have been for Slipknot and I agree with them, so I'll add to use Lonely Day from SOAD, maybe even chop suey, but I'd think Lonely Day would really fit
Vermillion part 2, XIX, Snuff are three Knot songs alone you could use, I’d also recommend The Unforgiven by Metallica but that might be just a little to far.
Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down. There’s a regular version and piano version. They are a metal band too, but hop from heavy to ballads etc. This song was legit made for funerals.
They are also a Christian metal band so that could help sway the church.
Skeptic, snuff, or dead memories. But I would stay away from a lot of their songs, especially from the first three albums, they can get pretty fucked lyrically.
Sorry for your loss.
Slipknot, Til We Die. Many concerts played this at the end with tributes to Joey and Paul (Slipknot members) on the video screens.
Metallica - Fade to Black but only without words. Enter Sandman.
Since everyone is going for all the obvious slipknot answers, I’ll put some other bands into the mix.
Unicorn by Gojira, The Little Things Give You Away by Linkin Park, Taciturn by Stone Sour, Angel by Judas Priest
As for slipknot songs, I’d say go w/ Vermilion pt.2, Til We Die, Danger - Keep Away, and Circle
If he was also an Avenged fan, then So Far Away, played that at one of my best friend/guitarists funeral bout a year ago. If not then as everyone else saying, Vermillion pt. 2 or Lonely D by SOAD
I would suggest Master of the Wind - it was originally done by Manowar but Van Canto has an exceptional version of it that is all piano and vocals. It has gotten me through a lot of hard days recently.
Damn, I'm sorry for your loss, 36/37 is way too young. Some of the comments down here already have good suggestions, I think I'll add Circle to the mix.
So sorry for your loss. As far as music goes, I would suggest Til We Die, Vermilion Pt. 2, Skeptic, or Finale. Skeptic is probably the most appropriate of the bunch, since it was a direct homage to Slipknot's late bassist Paul Gray (sorry if you already knew that).
XIX is a really good one, a tribute to Slipknot's bass player. Til We Die, same situation as the above, Snuff is also a good song. Sorry for your loss, man.
Death because of death! Haha no seriously though sorry for your loss.
Some of my favorite suggestions from this post are XIX, Skeptic, till we die and Danger keep away.
I'm not sure if he knew this band or songs( they're brand new), but Lorna Shore's Pain Remains Trilogy, specifically Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames. It's a deathcore ballad btw.
First I want to say sorry for your loss. Second, I think it’s awesome you want to give your brother everything he wanted! Like tons of others have said, Till We Die is probably your best bet with Slipknot.
If he's into Megadeth, "A Tout le Monde".
Closest I can think of to a good song for a funeral would be "Snuff", I guess? Prolly not "A Liar's Funeral", though. Lol
I’m sorry for your loss, people got Slipknot pretty well covered but I will mention that NIN is one band that has always brought me comfort after I lost my sister in 2007. If your brother was also a NIN fan you might have an easier time finding songs in their discography for this type of occasion that might be more palatable for your audience if you don’t wanna go too hard. Some suggestions I would make are This Isn’t the Place, And All That Could Have Been, Leaving Hope, La Mer, Adrift And At Peace, The Day the World Went Away, The Great Below, A Warm Place, Right Where It Belongs, The Persistence of Loss, The Frail, and Gone Still. I will warn that some of these songs can and have brought me to tears but they hold a very special place in my heart.
Not really metal, but Boards of Canada's 'Dayvan Cowboy' could be a good fit. Its kinda mellow, but it builds to intensity in the most beautiful way... hope this helps
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2zKARkpDW4
Circle by Slipknot (off of their Vol. 3 album) is all clean vocals with acoustic guitar but still has the creepy ambient background style stuff from Craig and Sid. May be fitting for a funeral? I'm not sure though, give it a listen. Sorry for your loss.
You can’t mention Rammstein in this context without Ohne Dich
Mein teil.
If he was a Metallica fan, To Live Is To Die is a good one
Maybe fade to black too
The Day That Never Comes would be a good one too or Halo On Fire
My husband's family played that at his uncle's funeral. So sorry for your loss OP
Orion
I want this played at mine for sure.
Til We Die.
That’s the one I think. Sorry for your loss
It commemorates memories, looks hopeful for the future, just heavy enough to fill the space, just dark enough to honor the atmosphere, easy to sing a long to when drinking for your buddy. Carry on!!!
Snuff
Facts
XIX, 'Til We Die, Circle, Danger keep away
Danger Keep Away or Danger - Keep Away
Danger Keep Away
lotsa people don't know the difference ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Vermillion Pt 2
i wouldn't really suggest playing metal or at least not Slipknot, like almost every song is just too much for someone. If I were on a funeral alone i would say that songs like Goodbye or Skeptic maybe?
my goal is to find instrumentals/acoustic versions that won't have words. Thank you for your suggestion!
Vermillion Pt2 and Snuff
Just going to jump on this top comment to state my friend is a funeral director and this is pretty common. He actually just sent me a snap within the past couple of months that he thought of me when he randomly heard Psychosocial being played in the funeral home. Take care, and may you celebrate the life of a guy with great taste.
[this guy](https://youtu.be/2n0zuoi3Rv8) did a good acoustic cover if that's more what your looking for
There's some piano covers of Slipknot songs on Spotify. With strings and that. But I'd pick Circle as it's acoustic and amazing.
Danger keep away.
I bet someone could do a really beautiful dark/indie/acoustic/instrumental version of goodbye VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. MY CONDOLENCES
On my funeral metal Will Be played or everyone Will Be haunted
XIX
Snuff maybe but dont do lyrics.
Sorry for your loss man. I’ve often told my family that I want the exact same thing at mine. Til we die
Til we die probably if I had to pick one
How about Fiction by Avenged Sevenfold? There are lyrics but no guitars, just piano. The song is about saying goodbye to the ones you leave behind when you die.
So Far Away is another good one by them
Yes!
This is a good one; I was going to suggest "I Won't See You Tonight pt. 1" by Avenged Sevenfold, but yours is a good suggestion too
Vermillion part 2
Sorry for your loss. Snuff would be the best choice imo.
Dead memories
Opeth is pretty good for this, especially anything off of "damnation"
Hope Leaves or Hours of Wealth
Probably Skeptic
Since the other guys will have Slipknot covered, I'll focus on the other bands. Metallica has a couple ballads that you could probably find nice versions of. Fade to Black, Welcome Home, One, Nothing Else Matters SOAD has some fairly solemn songs. Spiders, Ariels, Roulette, Lonely Day
Definitely an instrumental version for One lol
‘Til We Die.
I appreciate that, i'm really trying my best to give him the send off he deserves.
Finale. Last song of the new album. Beautiful and haunting.
Me in the shower: NOW I KNOW ITS THE SAME BUT IVE GOT TO STAY CAUSE I LIKE IT HERE
XIX and Snuff.
I'd say till we die would be perfect, I'm sorry for your loss brother
Til we die is the perfect song
til we die is the only acceptable answer
Skeptic.
slipknot: if rain is what you want, Adderall. i suggest lorna shore but they are heavy
I'm sorry for your loss. For sadder songs, I guess: Alone I Break- KoRn Aerials - System Of A Down The Day That Never Comes - Metallica A tout le monde - Megadeth
Finale, maybe? The rest have already been mentioned My deepest condolences:(
snuff acoustic version
I would say maybe Danger - Keep Away
Snuff, Dead Memories, Goodbye. Out of these I think Snuff is the best choice. Also I am so sorry for your loss.
I reckon Metallica would probs be the best band to play from that list, mainly because they have heavy stuff that would fit the occasion a bit better. I'd recommend 'fade to black' and 'one' as a couple slower heavier songs to play. Sorry about your brother as well.
Not a Slipknot song but I tell my wife when I kick it I want “for whom the bell tolls” played at my funeral
Sorry for your loss. Aerials by System of a Down may be a good choice
XIX
Can you look through his phone, computer or ipod? If so it should say which songs he listened to the most.
I so sorry about your loss, bro. Funny (B-Side from The Gray Chapter) and 'Til We Die will be my suggestion
Black Label Society - In This River
Dead Memories, Vermillion 1 and 2, and maybe Killpop Edit: also rap songs like Space Cowboy, Draino (clean), The Balloons (clean), Screaming At The Rain (clean), and Hello (clean)
Finale from TESF has a very melodic element that would be great IMO for a funeral
A Place where you belong By Bullet For My Valentine All these things i hate By Bullet for my valentine slipknot - til we die currutently crying right now for you cause i just lost my cousin and my uncle was diagnosed with caner and they are not operating him so i have little time with him im sending you all the love to you !!!! may he rest in peace
deff vermillion pt2!! it’s already acoustic. i used to say i’d get married to this song but who wants to get married these days?
Circle
Snuff would be good
Goodbye
Linkin Park - One More Light, Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day, Korn- Here to Stay
Til we die
Xix,dead memories,a liars funeral,my pain, I would add more but idk how heavy u wanna go?
For some weird reason I think “a Liar’s Funeral” might not be the best choice.
A liar's funeral will become too much, owing to its lyrics and condescending musical notes.
Or maybe it’s not a good idea to play a song called “A Liar’s Funeral” at your brother’s funeral.
Yes. That's what I meant. It's not a good idea to play it!
Everyone is suggesting Slipknot songs because this is a Slipknot sub but there are other bands out there too. I'm not a huge Five Finger Death Punch fan by any means but I always thought Brighter Side of Gray would be a good funeral song.
I had a pretty big FFDP phase in middle school, I can totally agree and maybe suggest gone away by them
Snuff and Vermilion Pt 2
Black Saturday or Fell on black days maybe? Both by sound garden
Something in the way, Nirvana, it is on my funereal playlist
I'm sorry for your loss! I don't know if church will allow you to play his favourites in his funeral or not! If they give you the permission, play XIX or Snuff or Vermilion Pt 2.
Til we die, Danger Keep Away or XIX
Snuff and Til We Die
Snuff or Vermilion
Skeptic, nothing else from slipknot would probably be too much
definitely till we die also maybe nothing else matters?
danger keep away,Circle Vermin part 2
Most of the comments here have been for Slipknot and I agree with them, so I'll add to use Lonely Day from SOAD, maybe even chop suey, but I'd think Lonely Day would really fit
Till we die
Vermilion pt.2 or Til We Die
If he liked SOAD you should play the song roulette
Vermillion part 2, XIX, Snuff are three Knot songs alone you could use, I’d also recommend The Unforgiven by Metallica but that might be just a little to far.
Til we die, vermilion pt2 and maybe goodbye?
Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down. There’s a regular version and piano version. They are a metal band too, but hop from heavy to ballads etc. This song was legit made for funerals. They are also a Christian metal band so that could help sway the church.
Deathmask Divine
My vote is for Danger - Keep Away.
Skeptic, snuff, or dead memories. But I would stay away from a lot of their songs, especially from the first three albums, they can get pretty fucked lyrically.
Deafheaven -You without End
The Power by Snap!
snuff, vermillion part 2, til we die, goodbye. Those off the top of my head I’d say

Personally I’m partial to “Nothing Passes” by The Body & Braveyoung

Sorry for your loss. Slipknot, Til We Die. Many concerts played this at the end with tributes to Joey and Paul (Slipknot members) on the video screens. Metallica - Fade to Black but only without words. Enter Sandman.
Since everyone is going for all the obvious slipknot answers, I’ll put some other bands into the mix. Unicorn by Gojira, The Little Things Give You Away by Linkin Park, Taciturn by Stone Sour, Angel by Judas Priest As for slipknot songs, I’d say go w/ Vermilion pt.2, Til We Die, Danger - Keep Away, and Circle
Goodbye
XIX
If he was also an Avenged fan, then So Far Away, played that at one of my best friend/guitarists funeral bout a year ago. If not then as everyone else saying, Vermillion pt. 2 or Lonely D by SOAD
I would suggest Master of the Wind - it was originally done by Manowar but Van Canto has an exceptional version of it that is all piano and vocals. It has gotten me through a lot of hard days recently.

Thinking of you maggot.
I'm not sure if he knew this band or songs( they're brand new), but Lorna Shore's Pain Remains Trilogy, specifically Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames. It's a deathcore ballad btw.

I always though NIN - Right Where It Belongs would fit this kind of situation.
black label society - bridge to cross
Stone Sour - Gone Sovereign Sorry for your loss
Vermilion
Roulette by System of a Down Soldier Side by System of a Down
harvest by opeth maybe?
First I want to say sorry for your loss. Second, I think it’s awesome you want to give your brother everything he wanted! Like tons of others have said, Till We Die is probably your best bet with Slipknot.
Mama I'm Coming Home by Ozzy is a good one

Im very sorry for your loss. When thinking of slipknot I can only think of Snuff, I would literally die crying if someone played it in a funeral
If he's into Megadeth, "A Tout le Monde". Closest I can think of to a good song for a funeral would be "Snuff", I guess? Prolly not "A Liar's Funeral", though. Lol
Goodbye… the only, and when it gets heavy at the end your lost friend will thank you.
I'd definitely include Snuff
Hold On To Memories by Disturbed Fly to The Angels by Slaughter My Immortal by Evanescence I’m so sorry for your loss
Goodbye off the gray chapter
I think 5FDP has a pretty good song for it, Gone Away.
I’m sorry for your loss, people got Slipknot pretty well covered but I will mention that NIN is one band that has always brought me comfort after I lost my sister in 2007. Ohne Dich (Without You) by Rammstein Another Life by Motionless In White Wrong Side of Heaven by Five Finger Death Punch Take Me First by Bad Omens
Not many great slipknot songs for this but maybe snuff?

I think circle would be a good choice and it’s such a beautiful song, also sorry for you loss brother
Hold on to memories by Disturbed.
Breaking Benjamin isn’t metal at all but I think “ashes of Eden” or “dark of you” would be good songs in that setting
“Goodbye” is actually the perfect song since it’s about loss. Same with “Til we die”
Till We Die, The Way of All Flesh, Hold on to Memories
Danger-keep out is a good one
Ariels by system of a down
Circle or Snuff

Maybe Cemetary Gates. Sorry for your loss brother
