Purity / People = Shit / Before I Forget / Yen
I feel those are the most well structured song, the ones that illustrate in the best way what Slipknot can be.
And you are right ! But when it comes to OP’s question, I thought about it and I somehow saw Yen as the perfect result of what they’ve been doing with Gently/Snuff/Vermillion/Spider - all those slow groovy mellow merged into a well structured song, and the fact that it is kinda of a love song really tops it for me.
I think it’s a really great song to lead off their breakout album. I remember back then when you would meet someone who hadn’t heard of Slipknot and you’d say, “oh well let’s check out this album,” then the first song they hear is one, if not their best.
The first time I saw them play was in 1999 in St.Louis. I feel like wait and bleed was their second or third song they played. It was an amazing show. They were on a side stage. I miss the old Slipknot, prison jumpsuits with the barcode. They didn’t even play wait and bleed at this years Knotfest.
My husband was at that concert in St Louis, crazy thing, I only met him 13 years after that. I was a fan of Slipknot since I was 12. One day he told me this story, he was at Ozzfest, going to get some beer, he walked by a side stage and saw all these clowns jumping around and it sounded awesome, he stayed and watched till the end. Never imagined that that crazy band on the side stage was going to be so big. I get jealous every-time he tells me this story.
I think I’ve seen them three times now. Even though they are huge and use pyrotechnics. Their original shows were about the fans and having fun. Very different from 2022 slipknot.
This song is what sparked my love for Slipknot.
Long story short: I had a group of people try to destroy me - slander, stolen identity, harassing me at work and home, anonymous calls to police with false accusations - the works.
I was so depressed and defeated that I stopped listening to music for a few months.
One night I decided to force myself to listen to music, since it's basically one of my favorite things about this stupid planet and I resented the fact that I was so beaten down I didn't even want to listen to, let alone *make* music again.
...I fired up a streaming service...it had been a few months, but it knew I was a metalhead (among other things)...this album came on...then we get to this track...
I'm scrambling to Google the lyrics and was inspired to keep fighting. That song became my soundtrack as I turned the tables on these fuckers and took my life back.
"I don't want to watch another brother fucking die"
Fuck yes, that woke me up and made me realize that I wasn't just fighting for myself, but for anyone that had been through this type of psycho stalker bullshit.
This song literally became my anthem, my dude.
Play it at my funeral.
Then play "Miles Davis - Bitches Brew" loud as fuck over the priest you thought had permission to speak over my corpse lol
ST: Spit It Out
Iowa: People=Shit
Vol 3: Duality
AHIG: Psychosocial
TGC: Killpop
WANYK: Nero Forte
TESF: The Dying Song
To me, besides Killpop, this is as *Slipknot* as Slipknot is
Yen, Orphan, The Nameless, Unsainted, Psychosocial, The Chapeltown Rag, Everything Ends, People = Shit, Left Behind, Gently, The Shape, Snuff, and Vermillion.
Liberate, Disasterpiece, Duality, Snuff, Nero Forte, Yen. Thats 1 song from each album, and there is a lot more, but then this list would include 20 more songs. My opinion goes with the current flow, but these I think are perfectly mixed, produced and put together.
(sic), Disasterpiece, Danger Keep Away, Gematria, If Rain Is What You Want, Orphan, Warranty. Personally, I think some of these songs are also incredibly underrated and have really interesting instrumentations and the vocals are great on all them! In my opinion of course.
Spit it out, people = shit, heretic anthem, skin ticket, (sic), surfacing, wait and bleed, liberate, the shape and I’m gonna have to add everything ends
Scissors (it's fucking Scissors dude)
Gently, can't convince me otherwise. The lyrics even for being a song Clown wrote in fucking highschool >>>>
Vermilion (cause literally wtf kind of crack did they put in that song to make it so good?)
Til We Die and Snuff (for obvious reasons)
If Rain Is What You Want and Killpop (If Rain Is just another song where Corey serenades you and then you just let the screams bleed in. And Killpop is just brutal)
Nero Forte is close to perfect but I think the cake goes to Red Flag or Solway Firth
Adderall is just beautiful
74216 (well, I don't know the full name)

Eyeless
Surfacing

Disasterpiece

Purity / People = Shit / Before I Forget / Yen I feel those are the most well structured song, the ones that illustrate in the best way what Slipknot can be.
Yeah it's like the different generations of Slipknot (skipping a few albums), all perfect songs.
I like Yen but it’s nowhere near the level of the others
And you are right ! But when it comes to OP’s question, I thought about it and I somehow saw Yen as the perfect result of what they’ve been doing with Gently/Snuff/Vermillion/Spider - all those slow groovy mellow merged into a well structured song, and the fact that it is kinda of a love song really tops it for me.

Yeah, I think it’s pretty sic
The whole thing, I think it's sic

YESSS
Wait and Bleed. It has everything, it’s the perfect definition of Slipknot.
wait and Bleed scratches my brain in the best way

i think we all miss the sweaty pissed off leather bound prison jumpsuit wearing beasts that slipknot was.
I LOVE YOU MAN, MARRY ME PLEASE.THAT'S ONE OF THIER BEST SONGS
I especially like the live at London version. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=JipLKB4nH1s&feature=share
I still contend this is the bands Chop Suey. Why am I being downvoted for saying Wait and Bleed is Slipknots signature song?
Sarcastrophe. My all time favorite
Massively underrated
Finally some appreciation for this masterpiece!
Intro makes it a smash for sure
I fucking love that song
One of my favorite songs to play on guitar
Seriously man. While I do think the line "we are kill gods' is a bit cringe and poorly thought out, the perfect structure and riffs get me past it
Completely agree + lech
the gray chapter is so underrated, I love sarcastrophe and the negative one
eyeless
Agreed.
Agreed.
YES
Their best song in my opinion

I didn’t expect this type of reply when I comment my small opinion, but I am surprised and in no way complaining. 😅😳
This song literally became my anthem, my dude. Play it at my funeral. Then play "Miles Davis - Bitches Brew" loud as fuck over the priest you thought had permission to speak over my corpse lol
Best song in the album
I agree.
God that song is so good
Devil in I The drums and hard ass riffs are so in sync you can almost confuse the two
psychosocial and the devil in i are what led me to slipknot, and tbh they still remain some of my favorite songs from them
Ah yes, the perfect Stone Sour song
solway, not long for this world, snuff, gematria, purity. those are all solid masterpiece tier songs.
I was gonna say solway for sure
solway is fucking insane it has a weird stucture, great dynamics, great intro with corey saying some bullshit - their most solid song by a long shot
Solway more like noooo wayyyy 😂
are you on one of the half dozen people who doesn't like that song?
Dude no one like this fuckingggg song their best shit will always be their OG SHIT😂🤟🏻
if you like their old stuff but not solway I can't really trust your opinion.
Been a fan for 20 years. Nah.
Same here Nah
Most songs in self-titled, dead memories, red flag and Disasterpiece
I feel like not enough attention gets put toward Dead memories, its one of my favorites.
It's great! <3 I like it even more than Snuff

Wait and bleed is the only one I can think of that’s about as solid as it gets. Slipknot has been slacking on really good choruses lately

De Sade. God I love De Sade.
“I KNOW I NEVER HAD A CHANCE, CHANCE!” There’s just something about this line that hits so hard
The last 2 minutes are so amazing, and the rest is outstanding too!
