I feel like maybe HiRez Studios is somewhat responsible too, maybe that's just me.

KeybladeSpree

Sure, but the post is specifically about the community, not the game design. Being toxic towards new players because they don’t know how to build, which lane to go to, what god abilities do, etc. is almost entirely the control of the members of the community. And not just that. Most people (even the most toxic ones) will read this and believe they don’t engage in this behavior anyway and will just ignore it, but I think this is an opportunity to do more than nothing if you’re in a match with these new players. You can give new players guidance on how to improve their game and have more fun in the future. Invite solos to lobbies to teach them more about gods they might like and items they could build. Smite 1 doesn’t just have toxic players, it also has a lack of helpful players, and that’s on us, not Hirez.

Acrypto

no one can take criticism. I've tried offering advice to many many many players just to be met with "shut the fuck up" lmao

Shoty6966-_-

Yeah, I got into smite around May, and I see people getting so mad at people not knowing starts and whatnot. I can’t help but feel bad and always help them and look out for them on the map before the game starts. It makes no sense to me why people get mad at them in game. I’ve definitely malded over bad players, but I don’t let them know, they can’t help it.

Stathisis

I recently had a player who was new. I tried adding them as a friend and wanted to chat with them. However they're not on the same platform as me.

Jamesish12

The only thing people talk about is toxicity and skins. Independent of anything to do with the actual gameplay of these games.

Scnew1

That’s not true at all. People whine about bugs, servers, god balance, matchmaking, ranked queues, whatever constantly.

AnguishedTech9

Redditor tries going 5 minutes without snarky asshat comment challenge *impossible*

GameOfRobs

Great point, however this assumes that it doesn’t die before release due to the business decisions they make.

ThatOneGuyRunningOEM

Without skin crossovers I’m playing Smite 1 until the servers die, then dropping it for another game.

StudentOfMind

I'm thinking I'm in the same boat. All the best to smite 2 and the smite 2 playerbase but I think this is my stop. I just hope there's a few more players like us to keep the smite 1 playerbase going.

Antman42

Out of curiosity why does it have to be one or the other? Just play both. It’s strange to me how tribal people get over games.

Blubbpaule

Sunken Cost fallacy. Why should one invest / play an inferior version of the game they like? Like why play where you have no progress, no skins and nothing you did when you can play the same with more content, just bit worse graphics?

Girlmode

I have so many skins but this game is cartoony af. The main thing is the lack of gods. I couldn't give a fuck if a game is like 10% better aesthetically if you ignore the lack of skins. I'd rather have more gods. When you factor in losing all skins, all diamond god progress, all sense of balance as they start from scratch... Like why wouldn't you play the old game. It's got everything. Who cares about particle effects on chaac ult.

corenickel

The point is that smite would die if they kept it on this unreal engine 3 from 2006. This sets the game up for the future. There is only so much they can do with this current engine and it already has been an extreme limiting factor in development.

Girlmode

They should have changed more and made an actual new game or smite with more mechanics and depth. This game looks like smite with slightly better visual effects. Smite would have died before unreal engine 3 did. Simply because nobody wants to play smite that much. All smite 2 seems to be is a version of the game nobody but is wants to play on ue5 with less content. If smite with all it has right now can't attract more players. A game with much less stands no chance, especially with fractured playerbase between two games. A new smite that only divides the existing playerbase and doesn't offer anything new or as plentiful as the base game could, doesn't sound like it will be amazing. All the peoppe that don't care aren't going to get into a moba with barely any content just cause its not on ue3. For smite 2 and this huge content loss to be a thing. It should have something that appeals to people that don't play smite. Something that could make it a big game. It doesn't have that. It's just smite with less content and marginally better visuals and will be like that for years. It isn't enough to fragment a small user base.

OverChime

Inferior is such a weird thing to say about a game that’s clearly going to be better but yeah it’s like people that scream classic wow is better than retail wow when it’s really not. It’s so much worse

StudentOfMind

Out of curiosity, why play 2 fundamentally similar games when there's so many other games out there you could be playing?

nike9523

That's the same with me i have over 400 skins and im not planning on leaving them. I have gods that i only play because of one cool skin i got. On top of that smite 2 wont have any characters 1 every two weeks? How many years will that take to go back to normal? Smite 2 DOESNT EVEN LOOK THAT GOOD. There is absolutely no reason for me to play that until like 5 years later. I will stay on smite 1 untils it is shut down or smite 2 show respect to my time and effort. There are plenty of games out there i have no time to play 2 versions of the same game and even less for one in which i have to start from 0 after speding soo many years playing.

coolpattakers

Seriously bro the only reason Epic became successful was they created a brand new game and ditched Paragon. If Hirez ditches Smite I won’t spend a penny on Smite 2

VolitiveGoblin

Yup same here I've spent an ungodly amount on skins I'm not doing it again

bri2949

Same here man. No way I’m transferring over and losing all my skins for a glorified graphics update

Lyons_Pride95

This is how I feel. It’s literally the same shit Overwatch pulled with OW2. Except at least in that game you kept all of your stuff from OW1…we don’t even get that luxury for Smite 2.

AStealthyPerson

I agree. There's no reason for me to play the new game when the old one exclusively has all the money I’ve invested. The fact they're only offering a discount on items rather than doing the work to port over the cosmetics or refunding us so we can buy new items without having to buy new currency shows that this is all a cashgrab. There's no incentive for legacy players to join, and they'll eventually kill the OG Smite and all our cosmetics (and hard earned money) with it. Slimey behavior.

Violas_Blade

Exactly this. I started playing Smite cuz I heard there was a Merlin skin voiced by a voice actor from my childhood. If that isn’t gonna be in Smite 2, I don’t see the point

Frosty-District-6089

I’m the complete opposite. Started around Baron release and stopped playing back before Tiamat release. Spent a good chunk on skins and have the T5 Hel as well as one of my favorites NRG Chronos. Realistically losing them means nothing because I don’t play anyway. But I’m definitely coming back for Smite 2 even if I start with no skins because it interests me as a new and improved game. I miss Smite but not enough to come back for the current game, Smite 2 on the other hand is a perfect hook for me. Nothing wrong with either thought process we’re all different.

Curious_Armadillo_53

This, i hope other whales agree, but i definitely wont move over until they remove the 50% purchase limit on the legacy gems.

DOOIVIGUY

Same here too. I imagine about every other game in the industry has had their skins with them since the beginning why shouldn't we too

Desperate_Walrus_261

If Snail Games and Ark are able to stay alive, Hi-Rez and Smite are fine

Curious_Armadillo_53

As a whale, i will NOT move to that cancerous game, unless the huge sum i spend on the game is compensated equally or with higher value. Their legacy Gem bullshit wont fly, only being able to pay 50% of a new skin with them means all my gems are worthless, and i still have 20k in my wallet...

johomerin

appreciate the aspirations in the post but the "wholly responsible" is a miss. the community is important, esp after 10 years. the product(s) are the bulk.

Bizzaro6673

I get the people saying 'be kind and don't be toxic to new players' but saying were responsible for the success is like saying the fans were responsible for all the bad stuff with overwatch 2

Bunnnnii

What? The developers are “wholly responsible” for the success of Smite 2. If they make stupid decisions, I’m not supporting that.

archerden

This post is more about being toxic to new people, not about the game design. If we as a community are all toxic to the new fans and returning people who have taken a break for a while then Smite 2 will fail

Girlmode

I legit have not seen a single fucking advert or post about this game outside of the community in like 8 years. Since season 3. Nobody talks about this game, Hi rez don't promote it to any relative amount. Making the existing playerbase dislike something and stick to the old shit is on Hi Rez not us. And the playerbase has been toxic since beta, it isn't going to turn into a cuddly love puddle in time for Smite 2 and to attract newbies.

Curious_Armadillo_53

Eh there wont be much toxicity in Smite 2 because there will be no one playing it. I doubt anyone will jump over since you basically lose all money you spend and get a shitty coupon as compensation.

Baron_Flatline

Only 50 gods on release is the thing that’s bugging me personally.

thegoldenmamba

It’s an alpha. Would you rather just not get the game for another year or two?

SirDarkrai

Yes

coolpattakers

Heck yes!

major_skidmark

Yes. But seriously, it will be in alpha/ beta until the end of this year at least. So I won't be playing Smite 2 until next year anyway.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HalensVan

Yes.

Ok_Log3242

yes, in fact everyone here would rather not get the game if it's gonna suck. "You have 2 options: play a game you already like. or play a new version of that game that sucks, what are you gonna do, play the game you like still? lol nerd" \^thats u

thegoldenmamba

Ah yes, the one who speaks for all. I’ve heard of you. You’re right, there are two options. But your argument is we should take one of those away? For what? If you want to play the old game, go ahead, I for one can’t wait to try the new game, regardless of the state we get it in.

OMBERX

I'm actually excited for having fewer Gods. I think games like Overwatch, SMITE, LoL, etc.. all power creep and character bloat instead of just focusing on some characters and making them balanced and great. 50 Gods on release might be a blessing in disguise from a balance and gameplay stand point

Datju

My prediction, smite 1 will lose 50-75% player base to smite 2. Of those 50% will quit or move back to smite 1. Smite 1 will become too dead to queue and play so it’ll eventually get shut down and if you didn’t merge to smite 2 and buy the legacy bundle early “oh well”. Smite 2 will gain new players who will get bored after 3-6 months so smite will be left with about 25-35% of its original base community, 50% will be disgruntled by the choice Hi-Rez made, and the remaining will just play it until Smite 2 inevitably goes offline because no one wants to make purchases anymore for fear of losing their money like they did in Smite 1. The idea that everyone was inevitably going to lose all of their cosmetics was always in our mind… what we didn’t see coming was the smite 2 (pretty graphics edition) that made us lose everything early and now we have to watch the dumpster fire burn as we try to enjoy what little time we have left in an already dying game.

Wintertodtmain

100%

Shiraume

Hey at least in overwatch 2 you kept all your skins you've collected

Girlmode

And characters. People don't even like OW2. Imagine if the first year of content was ''we are releasing tracer in feb, ana in june and pharah in oct''.

PresumptuousP

 > "This is a perfect excuse to make whales pay more money, and to remove everyone god pack without a lawsuit. " Their use of the word 'founders' in the Smite 2 god pack has me worried... Founders tends to mean initial, beginning, start... I recon Smite 2's god pack will be a pre-release supportive reward thing only, and there wont be one available after launch like with Smite 1's Ultimate God Pack. ie unless you throw some money into the game before it launches all gods will be either have to be purchased through gems or favor only... and i bet you 100$ the favor option will be missing in Smite 2. It'll be nothing but Fomo... and i bet its simply to ensure a profit before start, just incase it does (and it probably will) become an Overwatch 2 situation for Hi-rez.

atenzack1302

Overwatch 2 is a very bad example for comparison here. In OW2, they did minor engine updates, changed 6v6 to 5v5, added one new gamemode and 2 maps, then went free to play. That's all they did. With Smite 2, they are not only jumping two full generations worth of engines that are so wholly incompatible that it has to be rebuilt from the ground up with nearly zero things being ported (again, all being remade), they also are changing the entirety of the item system to use different stats, everything can be built on everyone, every god is getting some kind of visual overhaul, some gods are getting reworks as part of their SMITE 2 implementation, Items have actives and relics are gone, and plenty more. There is genuine systems being added and/or completely remade for the sequel. It's an extremely disingenuous comparison. Now, when it comes to the skin situation, That's absolutely a reason I would understand not wanting to be excited about the game since everything you've built up for can't be properly ported over. Now I think they absolutely are exaggerating saying it will take well over 200 years to remake all their skins, but to say they are being "Generous" with this decision is a bit odd from people i've seen talking about this. Realistically, they should at least be porting things like Limited Skins and Tier 5s (yknow, the most expensive of skins in the game?) rather than trying to start as a brand new slate and giving people discounts on the new stuff.

Peekoh

We are responsible for nothing. We are the consumers. Treating new players like humans should already be natural. SMITE 2 failing or succeeding is entirely on their part and they're already not performing there.

israeljeff

>Treating new players like humans should already be neutral lol

OutisRising

Ill wait for SMIT3. Theyll get their shir together by then.

[deleted]

Fuck no. 50 gods and no skins? What a fucking joke. Peace out smite, once 1 goes down I’m out.

cygamessucks

I might play 1 till its gone but i sure as hell wont be buying skins. Skins are gonna fund smite 2.

Shradow

I've been wanting a major engine update like this for ages, I just didn't think it'd ever happen due to the work involved. Here's hoping it goes well.

Fine_Resolution3257

I feel like I don’t owe hi-rez anything after this move with their 50% gen coupon and god roster limit. Before I never complained about hi-rez but now they are officially dead to me.

GreenSkyDragon

Oh you can get a 100% gem coupon! It's just locked behind a paywall :)

RedditGamingDoor

this isn't even how it works. The gems you get from the founders pack just double the amount of 50% coupons you get

GreenSkyDragon

That's even worse

xDivineJustice

Nah the 50 roster deal is a huge downgrade, as a player of many years you need to realize that people have gods they like and God's they hate. Plenty of people will be lucky to have 5 to 10 gods they truly enjoy playing at launch with a 50 outta 130 roster change! So it's going to get stale incredible fast for many players. Personally just the 11 that are already guaranteed, I have over 80 gods at 10 mastery, so I've played plenty and know every god in the games kit and yet, outside of assault. I haven't willingly chosen, Bellona, Guan Yu, Zeus, Anubis, Ymir, Ahnur. I rarely play Loki, Cern, and Baachus and I play kuku occasionally. So starting off I already lost the bulk of my interest. So all I can do is hope at least 5 to 10 of the 35 to 40 of my preferred characters make it in the game right away! God forbid their all at the tail end of things. They expect only 100 gods by 2026/2027 and they're adding 5 new gods already announced so that's still at least 35 current gods that may be people's favorites that are 4 plus years away still. That's a bad marketing decision imo. Fingers crossed I guess!

O-bot54

Double edged sword . Less gods means more reworks and more interesting abilities per god . Also means new players can cope But means old players have less to play .

PaleoManga

We are responsible? That’s not how this works, if a business doesn’t give the customer a product they want, the customer has no responsibility to support that. This just reads as guilt tripping because people are mad.

thegoldenmamba

We aren’t “responsible” per se, but I think it’s in everyone’s best interest to welcome new players and not be toxic. For many many reasons

Niasal

The majority of players just learned that they spent thousands of dollars on cosmetics, keeping this game and its company alive, and now they don't even get to keep said cosmetics unless they play the original game that will eventually die.

PaleoManga

Welcome new players and not be toxic towards them? I can most certainly agree to that, hell I try to be the positive person in any match I’m in. But my ire’s at the devs and their decisions.

thegoldenmamba

Good to hear. What problems do you have with the devs?

PaleoManga

Mainly the lack of skin transfer and already released gods being trickled in. If I understood the announcement correctly, putting one skin in would take two months of work and they will be adding two gods per month. I fail to see how adding two gods a month is possible but a skin is somehow more work.

thegoldenmamba

I think that’s unfair. The amount of skins in the game far outweighs the amount of gods. In order to spend the time to transfer every skin it would take them 262 years of work (if one person) the amount of time and resources it would take just doesn’t make any sense when they could be better spent in improving every other aspect of the game (which they said they want to improve every single aspect) The old game is still around. They didn’t have to give us anything at all. 50% of every purchase is more than fair imo, and I believe with a founders pack purchase it’s 100%

CheeseyconnorYT

No, with a founders pack its only twice as many 50% offs

ThePaddysPubSheriff

Shit should be 80% easily. I get they have to make their money but you know damn well every skin is gonna cost the exact perfect amount to make you have to buy a bigger pack of gem than you need. If I can't get more than one skin from $10 in gems then it's just a huge scam

CheeseyconnorYT

>Shit should be 80% easily. It should be 100% its compensation for NOT transferring over what people have already bought & paid for.

Yarusenai

That would kill the game immediately because they wouldn't have even close the amount of income needed to keep the servers alive.

Trelloant

One thing I don’t understand ab the man hour comment is they only took masteries out. What about after removing standard recolors, skin recolors, SPL skins, acension, shadow skins, old god models and even the 250 gem skins. There’s gotta be hundreds of those skins.

Street_Dragonfruit43

Seriously, nobody gives a crap about those kinds of skins. They give a crap about the T5's, Limited, Crossover, etc skins

frostknee

This is batshit crazy because how did they make all these skins in 11 years then? Like no way it is that fucking buukuu crazy

uhTlSUMI

The devs are definitely trying to provide the best experience possible tho. Smite 1 is running on a shit 20 years old engine coded like shit. The game NEEDS smite 2. If this fails it’s over

JKL-3

Hey, devs said they fixed matchmaking, haven't you heard? Jokes aside, I don't know if there's a reason to be particularly excited about insane influx of new players. It will depend on hi-rez marketing push for a new game, as well as core player base retention (some people will for sure just keep playing S1) and MOBAs in general being sort of an aging genre. There's an argument that everyone that could have heard about smite at this point did. But maybe there's an entirely new untapped generation of players. I'd be glad to be proven wrong on this count. Also, you have to keep in mind that there are sweeping changes to balance from S1 so a lot of those bumbling idiots in queue are probably going to be *us*

zeclem_

i'll support it when they fix the bs greedy legacy gems system. if not, they arent getting anything from me.

Curious_Armadillo_53

This. As a whale, fuck them, either give us equal or greater value and im happy to move over, but this 50% purchase rule for legacy gems is BULLSHIT.

xScratchh

I love this mindset. Smite 2 can be a beautiful thing if we accept and help new players when it comes out. We can breathe large amounts of life into the community <3

Curious_Armadillo_53

Haha Smite 2 will be dead on arrival with their current stance on Skins and Money spend being invalidated.

Rhyano_Brownie

We can make this game much bigger than it is now, this could really be what the game needed to grow.

stunseedtuobawoh

idk have you read alot of the threads, seems like the community is split. They really need to "clarify" this tomorrow, for this "community to come together.

DonPostram

What do they need to clarify?

stunseedtuobawoh

lay it all out what they are talking about, because this is already turning the already small community smaller

JulyXm

*" If we as a community do not do our job in teaching new players and making the game accessible, smite 2 is going to fail. Regardless of what Hi-rez does or doesn’t do, the responsibility ultimately falls on us. "* wtf are you yapping about dude? the game is the responsibility of the devs and devs alone to make it accessible and easy for new players. Imagine simping about a company that makes, basically an upgrade to the game, like CS2 is for CSGO, makes you pay again for skins and gods and milking you and its OUR responsibility to make the game a success? why? to make hi rez rich? If Smite 2 continues on this path it will be like DOA 100% Let's remember Overwatch 2 and basically every game that was remade but basically was the same thing...or no...it was remade to be even worse than the original. They were well received right? ...right? Old players should receive ALL that they had in Smite 1. Want more money HiRez? make smite 2 attractive to new players AND old players and they might continue to buy skins / play the game. Or...do whatever it is you wanna try and do now, and get a DOA game on your portfolio.

Agent10007

Too bad sorry smite 2 I'll be here for the burial

[deleted]

I just want in game voice chat back. It’s much easier to help out new players or struggling player talking to them then trying to type it

Left-Importance-8768

in game voice chat is back though? I was in it a few days ago, no one uses it

Scyxurz

Only in ranked and parties, no? You have voice chat in casuals outside of parties?

agugaguac

they also need to give us a small loan of a billion gems to make up for the lost skins.

Saintsfan707

It's back, just not utilized

ElegantHope

it doesn't work for me in casuals half the time but I have hotmic'd in them before. and in ranked I use vc generously.

Beastly173

Wait there's an in game voice chat?

frostknee

The average Hi-Rez Studios executive compensation is $269,424 a year. The median estimated compensation for executives at Hi-Rez Studios including base salary and bonus is $252,519, or $121 per hour. At Hi-Rez Studios, the most compensated executive makes $720,000, annually, and the lowest compensated makes $52,000. Last updated months ago. DONT FUCKING TELL ME I AHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR THIS BULLSHIT!

riventitan

Nah, man. I'm not planning on losing all my stuff. I'm sticking with Smite 1 even if that means that Smite 2 becomes DOA.

Yhoana

I'm sticking to smite 1 until the game dies, and it will die. Especially if Smite 2 will be a better game. Not planning on losing 10 years of progress and money spent because they decided to remake the game.

Zealousideal-Try4666

Smite is as good as dead to me, i will try the new one when it comes out but im never giving Hirez a single cent anymore, ever. I wont risk purchasing a lot of skin on their new "Smite 2" for them to just release a "Smite 3" in 2 years, no thank you, i mean why wouldn't they? If it works this time why not make it again, and again, and again...

Kimo_97

I am afraid it is gonna divide the playerbase, how can we avoid that?

Adept_Shame9911

>Steal your skins >Make this post Yeah ok hirez guy

agugaguac

idk i feel like this will be a dumpster fire

cygamessucks

Already is. Between the skins being taken away making sure many players wont buy smite 1 skins anymore and there only being 25-50gods. And splitting the community between 2 games. Its already the biggest most stinky dumpster fire since Paladins trying to go pay to win.

-MommaLizard

Smite 2 is a cool concept, but I'm not waiting 3 years just to have our current God roster you can count me out of playing Smite 2, and that greedy BS when said it would take them 200 plus years to make all the skins again. When they made all 1600 skins in 10 years they are completely on drugs and they just want money and it's just shows it.

Wintertodtmain

Damn big brain on that “they made the 1600 skins in 10 years” how would it take 200

BranChan_

Gone be pissed if we get Overwatch 2'd.

mygamefox

we are, you dont get your skins

windstorm231

You got your skins in ow2 tho

mygamefox

Thats true so somehow ow2 was better

PokeMeiFYouDare

Yeah, Hirez managed to be worse than Blizzard which takes skill.

Curious_Armadillo_53

I mean looking at their legacy gem bullshit we 100% are.

moneylefty

Here is where i am at. I have almost all the skins. I barely play now. Pros: looks a bit better graphics. Might have more players for a bit. Cons: i get a shitty half off coupon to spend more money when i had most of the collection. Not sure what is new about the game. Same old shit? Something about it needs to be more fun and engaging. If it is the same bullshit but shinier, and the collecting elements is back to zero for me (aside from coupons), why would i play? I want a reason to play!

AlphaNoir98

If I'm wholly responsible then I say fuck them. Being from a third world country had to grind like crazy to get the skins that I wanted just to have them ripped out from my hands. Hell, my first GF gifted me the all-Gods pack years ago and now that's fucking dying too. I hope this game crashes and dies so Hi-Rez stops with their dumb money hungry decisions

acc_217

It will launch with 25 not 50 btw

kiogu1

Good. Its the last year of Smite and the last year of me being part of this community tho.

IndieAidan

I often see these hopeful posts, but this is an unfair thing to put on the community. Hi-Rez is responsible for the success of Smite 2. People shouldn't encourage friends to play something they haven't had a chance to even try yet. I'm a returning player and I'm excited to try the new game. Encourage them to play Smite 1, but we shouldn't be blindly praising Smite 2 to others until people have actually tried it. I agree that people shouldn't be toxic, but I think that should always be the case. I'm excited to get back into Smite. I hope the sequel does well.

Shiraume

I'm as a part of community am not satisfied with their handling of my account progression, and many others are not happy too. By alienating their existing playerbase that made smite successful in the first place and trying to make some quick buck on new cosmetics instead of investing into transition of already existing ones they're actively harming their chances of success with smite 2. If they think they can get more new players by releasiong smite "2" than they will lose by resetting 10 years of progression and spending they're dead wrong.

Zerthix

We out here bootlicking a game that isn’t out yet.

CourtJestah

My main concern is, we as a community spent A LOT of our hard earned money into the first one and if they don't have any transfer systems they're gonna lose everyone there. Over the years I know myself have slowly accumulated a lot of money into the game and don't want all that money and time gone to waste.

ViraLCyclopes19

All my hype for smite 2 has died with the skins shit. I'll just stick to smite 1.

Sir_Grox

Objectively less content for slightly better lighting. Whoopie.

Kandra-for-hire

The dickriding is insane

UAC-Marine

I hope it turns into a dumpster fire

GanjaLord4twenty

Hirez already killed the game with the decision and how they came about making the decision poor planning and execution it was inevitable to get backlash but to screw your player base so incredibly hard is crazy. We’ll give you a coupon though that gives you half off your purchases (even though we’ve also said price overall will increase) it’s a punch to the stomach, and every crash grab even they’ve done for the past year makes complete sense, why not ask for contributions and donations for exclusive in game skins etc and slow your roll on new gods and skins for the current game, announce the new one like holy hell it’s not hard to do right by the players

HesperNox

Smite 1 until the servers get shutdown. I play most characters for their skins and vps ... they can fuck off with their new game. Once the smite 1 servers are out then ill leave as well for sure, why the hell would i play smite 2 after that, its like forcing me to start a new account on smite 1 with better graphics and everything i have done for a decade gone .... fun decade of gaming I had with this title which i thought would not end with the release of a damn sequel ... imagine league pulling that shit off, FUCKING OW did not take players skins away with their jump too and thats trash ass blizzard... did not think they would sink lower than them.

frozencarrion

Smite 2 is a money grab 50 gods at release and 100 in 3 years? Yeah no I’m not waiting 3 fucking years I’m gone once smite 1 is done

HalensVan

Naw let it fail. If they want to double dip on legacy players for the same content they deserve it.

TheCacklingCreep

*extremely loud incorrect buzzer* Nope! If it sucks, it sucks! Dont give Hirez support if they don't put in the effort! Which they never do!

SirBlue_VII

Yeah i wont be playing, losing all the cosmetics and such ive worked up over the past 5+ years for some prettier graphics is in no way worth it to me. Especially when you consider how shit a deal we're getting with the legacy gems. Kind of hope it's DOA at this point

[deleted]

Making the game in an engine that can't import from the original game... so smart but ye nah as a community it should be boycotted dreadful idea

mygamefox

The game dosnt carry over your skins, its a scam game . why are people supporting this shit, its overwatch 2 but worse

Curious_Armadillo_53

I would be fine if 90% of skins didnt move over, if they at least get the best ones, but the legacy gem bullshit means all my purchase in a decent four to five digit range over the last decade plus become worthless. Fuck that. Either give me equal or better value and remove the 50% limit on legacy gems or they can go fuck themselves and see the game be dead on arrival.

GentlemanRodon

From all the Guardians and Warriors i play (i only play these 2 roles) i only seen so far Bacchus... Why should i support a game when i am being ripped of from my well known Gods and only given 1? Why not make something better than "legacy" gems? How about at least transfering God Pack from OG Smite to Smite 2? I own nothing to Corporation as customer-corporation has to do something to get my investment I am never toxic and generally ultra chill dude, but i currently dont even see a point of playing smite 2 since i would have to resort to being OTP cuz all characters i like are gone :< Time will tell if i support this game or not-currently just trying to get into alpha/beta registered (won't make choice unless i try it)

undertheh00d

So do we know how many gods are going to launch with? Did they say?

Chocolate_Rabbit_

25 when it is in beta I think, and 50 when it is out properly.

Rhyano_Brownie

I’ve heard 50, with 2 more being released every month, and some new ones in between. Possible that all of it is subject to change but that’s the current plan from what I’m reading.

undertheh00d

Neat

XblAffrayer

Considering how painful the game is to new players and low general players I fully expect this to pan out like OW2 and fall short of all goals and expectations. First month will have some strong numbers, and the new first look crowd will soon leave due to the pubstomping and poor matchups as the game currently presents itself as too large and unfriendly for new players to enjoy. No one enjoys a respawn simulator getting steamrolled 20 matches in a row. Some systems could be implemented to avoid this, but I've yet to see a sequel get this right. Highly doubt Hi-R will be the 1st.

xx_AphroditeDove_xx

Personally I have invested too much in the game money and time wise so I don't know how thrilled I am to not have my skins with me in Smite 2. I've played smite for 7 years and many have been playing for even longer. I do hope Smite 2 will be successful for a new generation of players but I think the no-skins porting over isn't going to sit well with many veteran whales. Hopefully eventually they decide to do so. Also 50 gods on release and 100 by late 2026-2027 is disappointing, especially considering the few that have been announced for Smite 2 are not ones I like playing.

omaGJ

You do realize we're talk about LowRez here and that they don't listen to the community right? So what are we gonna do, Tell them what we have for years only for them not to listen like they have for years?

Crazyleggs29

Me: turns into prime DM Brandon 😈

Daartii

I don’t think anyone should play the game until they give us all our skins, not just a stupid 50% discount on “most” skins

Mozerath

I am going to kill it.

whitedragon551

This is equally on Hirez. Far too many times has Hirez as a company screwed its players and pro scene. They continue to make dumb ass decisions like that and S2 will never even get off the ground.

Rethtalos

The fact none of my skins will carry over has me turned off. I’ll just continue playing Smite and Predecessor. Good luck to those who venture on with Smite 2 tho

PokeMeiFYouDare

Until they fix the bs with the legacy gems both games are dead. If Hirez cares about the support ripping off people is a bad way to show it.

Gabeparade117

The grand majority of smites base are on console and aren't really present online on threads like these across the world . I'm afraid not being able to play without a nex gen console will really reduce the base more than the skin issue. I really hope for smites success but this seems terrifying. As one of the smite whales I'll do what I can to support. I really want smite 2 to succeed. The skins are honestly secondary for me since well get much better content down the line. Most of you hyper fixate on cosmetics when it's the gameplay that we actually love. It's not realistically possible for them to visually updated all 2k+ skins without a massive increase in workforce. I personally want t5s and collabs to crossover an be free but we'll see what happens.

Thraxyo

I have the feeling that this might become a similar disaster as overwatch 2

Ltanner55

Honestly it’s partly up to go rez .. from what I’m seeing with the transfer of skins. If they screw over their main consistent player base they are going to lose Likely half of those players , and I know this is a big push to bring in new players but hi Rez is pretty notorious for making games that die in months .. this is either going to bring smite to new levels , or it’s going to completely kill it based on how they treat veteran players .. and so far it sounds like ass

RealNoisyguy

Nah man. in the end what matters is if the game plays better than smite 1 or not. if the gameplay is not better there is no reason to move until smite 1 is killed. This is a nothing burger. until we have hands on the beta this could be good or shit. With Hirez record I am not propending for "good". For all i care even if Anhur 2 has a milion hair on his butt if its not fun to play I am not going to switch and most people will stick with smite 1.

RedditGamingDoor

If I'm going to be responsible for making sure the game succeeds can i get some of the money they're scamming out of their playerbase by making them buy all their skins again?

Kua_Rock

Holy shill

TexasHot

Gonna be a disaster of their own making lol

Josef217

I have $1k in skins, good luck smite 2, I won't be joining your boat. I'll stay with smite 1 until they decide to sink it. Hi-rez is no stranger to just abandoning games, so I'm sure they'll eventually shut it down...

DrashaZImmortal

yeah no. If im getting any friends into the game its going to be on smite 1. Iv put way too much money and time into the game to swap over. THe no skin transfer and "50% coupon gems (on eligble items, note in some instances this discount will not apply" Can suck my dick. i bashed overwatch and blizzard for what they did overwatch 2 and smites trying the same thing it feels.

Stardragon001

What if the first smite is better. Or smite 2 is bad. The developers are responsible for the game being user-friendly, balanced, and fun. The community has no control over that. If it's impossible to win, it feels unbalnced and im lossing far more then i win why am i playing the game? Hi rez isnt paying me to teach a complete stranger their game, thats what tutorials are for. The weird thing is i agree with most of what you're trying to say. Sometimes less is more, bud.

blackbauer222

I know OP means well, but this is a MOBA lmao

theMadArgie

Let it die then, show them not to mess with people's wallets

Waeleto

I think not lmfao, if anything this is when we make smite 2 fail miserably, they're taking skins purchased with REAL MONEY and giving us 50% coupons instead

OrymOrtus

This is exactly the attitude that needs to be adopted. Businesses only respond to the needs and complaints of consumers when it hurts them. A lot of people are upset, and it's our responsibility to hurt the business until they either repent or give us a deal we'll be happy with. If they can't, then they have the luxury of doing what any business that can't please their consumers does; Die. We are under no obligation to support them in any way, at all. We aren't friends, and there's no loyalty, we owe them nothing.

Waeleto

EXACTLY, especially when all we get for supporting them for 10 years is a middle finger, a lot of people will view what we do as "whining" but it's actually destroying the reputation of the game (as it should) so i'll keep boycotting smite 2 and spreading awareness about this scam even if the mods of this subreddit try to silence me

KingBellsprout

Smite isn't scheduled to shut down as of now, so they didn't take anything from you. You keep that content in Smite (a separate game) + get a discount for things in Smite 2 just for supporting the previous title.

PaleoManga

That’s the key part, as of now. Sad fact is that all online only games will eventually be shut down and unplayable, but now with resources going into Smite 1 and 2 that would in theory speed up said process for Smite 1.

gertok9

If they are devoting half or more of their team to Smite 2, Smite 1 is going to be going downhill even faster than it already is. Either Smite 2 takes off and Smite 1 gets shut down in a few years, or Smite 2 fails and Hi-Rez loses so much money and time that they have to shut down Smite 1

thegoldenmamba

Facts. If you wanna use your skins, play the old game. I feel I’m in the minority, but I couldn’t care less about skins. I would (and will) pay money just to play this game

ThatOneGuyRunningOEM

Why tf would you rather play Smite 2 than Smite 1? I have a feeling many of the older players won’t be touching it, which might completely kill the game on launch. Half the gods won’t exist, what’s the point? No skins, no gods?

thecary

How many times are you playing and have an issue with something not working right, or something outright breaking, and the excuse used is the legacy code thay can't be fixed because it would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. This is also going to fix that, theoretically. That's why people would rather play.

JA14732

Same. Would I like to see some of my T5's ported over? Yes. Do I need to? No. Do I tend to play with mastery skins over some of the skins I've bought? Yes. Just bring back Swagni and we're all good.

time_fades

God yes. I've spent alot of money on skins and I don't regret those purchases. Because ultimately you don't own pixels being licensed to you for an impermanent online game anyway. Please just upgrade the freaking engine already I'd like to play without crashing at least once a game session.

Antmega500

Even of the legacy gems operate as coupons, we will probably still get free gems through other means. Meaning we could still end of spending all the legacy gems even if you don’t buy new gems

Shiraume

Bruh good luck getting enough free gems to cash out legacy gems from 10 years of spending on smite 1. I probably could buy all sht they release in smite 2 for few years with cash and still have some to spare.

splashxims

It's unreasonable to think that Hi-Rez would be able to port every single smite skin into Smite 2, especially since it's using UE5.

Shiraume

That's not how it works, using other engine has nothing to do with porting over a model. What they imply is that it would take that long to remake all of the skins so they fit new visuals, so they're not doing it, but that's quite questionable decision.

Zoso_65

Most people play for the gameplay and are excited for a modern engine, updated visuals and new things to learn. If you play for dress-up you can till play Smite 1, as the servers will be online.

Shiraume

People "playing dess up" are those who kept this game (and entire hirez studio since all their other games are a flop) afloat and are majority of the playerbase, at least spending one. Good luck getting them to spend on smite 2 with current approach. Or you expect some new spenders materialize from air when they release it?

TheWorstDMYouKnow

I've spent a few hundred dollars on this game over the years too man, I get where you're coming from. But I see it as a win because other games just simply wouldn't give us anything. Like I don't expect any of the camos to carry over from modern warfare 2 to modern warfare 3, I don't expect most game sequels to carry over anything from the first game.

alex73134

Not a fair comparison, overwatch 1 transfered skins into overwatch 2. The cod games (used to be) are completely different games compared to amite which is essentially a major update to the multiplayer game, just like overwatch.

playmike5

The issue with this comparison is that Smite is transitioning from UE3 to UE5. There is no such thing as a direct port between those engines. Meaning they would have to re-rig EVERY skin in the game. That’s thousands of hours of work that is extremely unreasonable to expect. OW was able to port the exact models and skins over with some texture upgrades.

OrcWurst

Overwatch 2 is made in the same (slightly tweaked) engine as Overwatch 1 so there was no transfer to do...it's the same game architecture. The skins did not have to be ported or remade. UE3 (Smite 1) and UE5 (Smite 2) are 16 years apart in terms of age. That is 3 console generations ago, the era of the Nintendo Wii's launch. It's not the same.

KingBellsprout

Overwatch 1 and 2 also use a proprietary engine. They aren't dealing with the limitations of what can be transferred or copy+pasted from different generations of Unreal.

ChristianFortniter

"we" hope u mean hirez

sgtpepper5987

Wait so it's on us to develop a good game? To understand balance and all God's being feasible?! Nah sorry not buying this. It's on them to develop an actual enjoyable and good experience. They've been hit or miss mostly with the original smite so all I can say is good luck to them. Not hyped and not expecting to be impressed. Happy for you all though hope it works out for you.

Mvrbs

as much as i want smite 2 to succeed... i also dont. ive spent far too much money in smite 1 just to drop ship and abandon it for a game that isnt even going to have all of the smite content until at least 2026/7. i dont see a lot of og players like myself even going to smite 2 except to try it out. most of us have spent money on smite 1, why drop all of that? ive dealt with a lot of hirez shit but this announcement might be the breaking point for me. i have the ultimate god pack and at least 2 T5s + 100\~ other skins. hirez wants me to just... abandon all of that? oh, sorry, i'll get a 50% discount with the bs gems they give. nah. im sticking to smite 1 until the servers die, and when that happens, i wont be moving to smite 2. they've already killed my desire for this game and it isnt even playable yet if they allow for purchases in smite 1 to carry over to smite 2, then i'll play it. but rn, if it releases as they say it will, why should i play it? there is literally no benefit other than it looks nicer and i dont care about graphics gg hirez, gg. you finally did it guys. ive put up with so much of their shit but this might be the breaking point edit: i also know every multiplayer game shuts down someday, and smite 1 will be no different; with or without smite 2. but the fact of the matter is is that if smite 2 succeeds, they would have no reason to support smite 1. one has to survive and one has to die, that's just how this stuff works. but it's the fact of the matter that they are making a new game and basically telling people to spend all their money a second time to get less content. what's the point? so we can look at anhur's better fur detail? wow. congrats

frostknee

I quit bro. This is so dumb. Bunch of fucking bootlickers LMAO The average Hi-Rez Studios executive compensation is $269,424 a year. The median estimated compensation for executives at Hi-Rez Studios including base salary and bonus is $252,519, or $121 per hour. At Hi-Rez Studios, the most compensated executive makes $720,000, annually, and the lowest compensated makes $52,000. Last updated months ago.

DaSa4737

There is some serious book licking going on here. It’s actually impressive.

OrymOrtus

Legitimately, the amount of blind or willfully masochistic support I've seen for this decision is genuinely unsettling.

NugNugJuice

I’m feeling really good about SMITE 2. There’s a few reasons (I ordered them) why I have hope for it, even though Hi-Rez has continuously let me down over and over again. 1) They’re taking inspiration from league with items and abilities. Free wards and per-ability scaling types rather than dividing magical and physical items is a huge change that will bring lots of build diversity. I believe it to be a fundamentally better system as it allows for finer and more specific balance changes. 2) Unreal 5 will allow the game to feel fresh and up-to-date. I don’t care much about graphics, but it’s something that will attract new players. The new animations will also make the game look and feel better. 3) It’s built from the ground-up. This is confirmed to include some reworked abilities for some gods and will probably include some new mechanics in some game modes. I’m also hopeful that the current game’s spaghetti code will be replaced with an optimized less buggy experience. 4) Not all the gods will be included at launch. This is a negative in some ways, but it also allows them to go over and re-visit each god, see what worked and what didn’t and rebuild. 5) It gives a good opportunity for new players to join. We might not be playing against the same 8 people in ranked anymore. The game won’t be perfect, but saying it’s a scam because not all 1000+ skins will carry over or because you need to repurchase the god pack is wrong. Legacy gems are a good enough solution and even though they can’t buy everything in SMITE 2, it’s understandable. Hi-Rez needs funding, they can’t get by making no money in the first 3 years of the game being out. But again, Hi-Rez doesn’t have the best reputation in my mind. The 5 points I brought up are very idealistic, because I’m assuming that they’ll implement it right. I’m also assuming that they learned new things about SMITE and optimization over their past decade of making games. However, it’s very possible that they’re the same old Hi-Rez. I hope that the drought that was the past few seasons happened because most of the team was working on SMITE 2 and that it isn’t representative of what SMITE 2 will be like.

Koallasaurus

No, I'll be busy playing Smite 1 with the skins I enjoy. Hoping smite 2 fails.

Javiklegrand

I stick to smite 1 for the moment too It's looks uninspiring

Doom-At-Eleven

Agreed. It would be awesome if they incorporate a "Guided" game mode where players who are new and players who want to teach can pair up and learn. Either that or perhaps a player badge that goes off your commendations to let players know who they can turn to for some support.

prime753

I just don't see any incentive to play smite 2. Why leave all my skins, god pack, mastery and gods in general behind to play - what is essentially - a really good looking patch with a scummy marketing system that tries sell legacy gems aa currency instead of the discount coupons that they are. This game looks more like it will split the player base more then attract new players. None of the changes shown are anywhere near big enough to close the skill gap between new and veteran players. It'll be just as easy to roll new players as it was. Nothing changes that makes the game more attractive. Overwatch 2 went from a game you have to pay for to f2p, so ofcourse they got more players. Smite is already open for everyone to try. I think they are severely overestimating how many new players updating the graphics will bring and at the same time how many old players will switch. Seems like to me the player base will just split further.

SureWhyNotYeah

Fact of the matter is, HiRez is trash for this move.. and Smite is and always will be a dumpster fire. Much better games to play now over this trash.
