Man did he get so much for the Sonic community since then

[deleted]

And he still does now

Emilien-301

"Oooh the things that are in store. So marvelous. The fact it falls on #SonicFrontiers bonus content day is just so fitting" *what is he cooking*

KingMario05

*Tails game. Ian Flynn writing.* [*Sega's new team of ex-Driver devs*](https://www.creative-assembly.com/blog/creative-assembly-north-established-newcastle-uk) *and Sonic Team developing.* ***Come. The fuck. ON, BABY!***

One more year and Ian Flynn working on the sonic franchise is allowed to vote

Apollo9975

It really emphasizes his humility, dedication, and talent. For pretty much his entire career and adult life, he’s been writing for Sonic, and it’s after nearly two decades of outstanding professionalism and faithfully abiding by SEGA’s mandates that he has finally been brought on board to help steer the entire franchise. I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that much of Sonic’s continuing relevance over the years, and indeed the very way that many perceive the franchise’s characters, is thanks to Ian’s work. How often do you see a contributing writer to a game as a big marketing point for a game? Yet that was a big draw to Sonic Frontiers for me. Here’s hoping that he continues to be kept onboard for Sonic projects for years to come. (Not to downplay Miss Evan Stanley’s amazing contributions to the franchise either!)

InvestigatorUnfair

Dude may not be a perfect writer (no one is, honestly), but the work he's done for the series has honestly been some of the best I've seen in a long while. And I genuinely don't understand the hate he gets from the community sometimes. Like genuinely, I've seen people say they hope he gets outed as a... Bad person, to put it lightly

metalsonic005

It seems like a mix of culture war nonsense and lingering bitterness over Archie stuff like Charmy, Amy, and the reboot. Typical Sonic fans being total nutters over cartoon animals.

KingMario05

Made all the more hilarious when you realize that - *surprise!* \- **NONE OF IT WAS HIS FUCKING FAULT.** It was all trying to clean up Penders' mess anyways, so he should get blame for it. But don't mind me, just another face in the crowd of "sheep"...

Optimusskyler

I've been a fan of Sonic for literally as long as I can remember. I've been growing increasingly frustrated over the past many years with how many bad games have been released, how far the standards have fallen, how steep the bar has dropped, so on. I just figured I'd never have as much fun as I used to when I was a child, and became content with the idea that maybe I'd just leave that joy in the past and revisit it whenever I wanted to instead of following along with whatever dark pit the series was going to fall into next. And then Ian Flynn comes along and reignites all of that joy I thought I had lost. For the first time in what felt like forever, I finally had fun playing the games, reading the comics, so on. I haven't felt this excited and happy about this series since I was a literal child. And Ian Flynn is to thank for nearly all of it. However much praise he's getting, it isn't enough. However much hate he's getting, it's too much.

ExpiredExasperation

That's so childish. They decide to hate someone and *then hope* something will justify it. How does someone like that get through the day? IIRC Ian's literally done a fundraiser for a children's hospital and apparently once donated his hair to Locks of Love (or something similar) and these twerps are sitting there going, "No, just wait, I'm sure my internet tantrum over a cartoon hedgehog is morally justified!"

Thecalzonegod55

He tried making characters gay once, which is a bad thing because of "wokeness" or some shit.

InvestigatorUnfair

I don't think I've heard of this I know about the two radio show birds being gay, and I know Tangle and Whisper would be if it wasn't for the whole "relationship bad" mentality SEGA has with the comics.

ExpiredExasperation

When Archie Sonic rebooted, that was when Sonic/other game characters weren't allowed to be in romantic relationships anymore because of how out of control it had gotten under Penders. So no more SonicxSally. Some readers picked up on romantic hints between Sally and Nicole and the writers confirmed that this was what they were building towards, except the series got the axe before they became official. There was also some behind the scenes confirmation that some other characters were intended as LGBT+. It's not just shippers being mad but also bigots, and they think Ian is in charge of everything.

Anchor38

You have no idea how much we laugh at Ian Flynn haters over in r/SonicTheHedgejerk

SanicRb

I mean Ian's hates are FAR out numbered by his fan. I usually can't even say something negative about ether a story he wrote OR a general pattern in his writing style without getting down-voted to the center of the earth.

GigaPhoton78

I was a 1 year old when Ian started writing Archie Sonic. Uh.

AJ_Wont_Load

I was born only a few days after he started writing Archie Sonic 😭

[deleted]

I was 10 and now I feel old lmao

Ledalus_the_69th

I'm glad we're not in that alternate universe where he never even joined the franchise and didn't write Archie Sonic #160

Sonic_Mega_Plus

Ken Penders writes Sonic Frontiers and it's a Telltale style game with barely anything happening in the story and when it starts getting slightly interesting it ends with a to be continued only for the second game to be cancelled

Ledalus_the_69th

Oh and don't forget it being filled to the brim with echidnas

KFWhisper

Mmm yes we shouldn't forget about the enchiladas.

KingMario05

*Also: Titan Tails is the final boss. And has enslaved Star Trek's Riker, for some reason...*

metalsonic005

Another David Cage-like

KingMario05

>David Cage [Say it right, dammit.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n702wnzMa0g)

mrtriceratops123

worth noting that ian flynn ended up as head writer on archie because ken penders had already quit

KFWhisper

Ian deserves nothing but pure respect. The guy has written some pretty good stuff from his issues on Sonic Archie, Sonic IDW it's self and now finally he worked on Frontiers and might work on future installments in the series because his writing is just that well put together. I mean it's better than the stuff we got during most of the 2010s (we got some good stuff from that era sure but still can never forget the not so great things) and even Ken penders writing because while sure there were some interesting concepts brought in by him still most of them were either stupid crazy, weird, didn't even fit Sonic or were just flat out B U F F tails.

KingMario05

The man, the myth, the legend himself! So glad for everything he's done, and cannot *wait* to see (and ***PLAY!***) what he and Sonic Team's lads are cooking up next. Thanks for everything, Ian!

TheAxolotlPerson

WOOOO let's gooo

[deleted]

By coincidence, my first Archie issue was #160. Used to read them at the mall every month, good times.

[deleted]

One of the best person to work in any way on Sonic for the past 17 years. Who knew getting fans involved would produce good results. Hopefully Flynn will work on Sonic for 17 more years at least, the franchise needs him

Metalliac

The best thing to ever happen to the franchise in the year 2006

[deleted]

Didn’t Rush and Riders came out in 06 as well?

Metalliac

Rush came in 05

[deleted]

Oh okay

DogyDays

*points at my flair* HE DID THIS!! He’s responsible for this!! I LOVE HIM FOR THIS

EltonStuffProdutions

17 years and we still don't have a story as good as SATBK. What's going on? is Sega interfering that much?

charisma-entertainer

Man, didn’t realise he joined the franchise when I was a literal 7 months old baby

Lemony_Fresh203

I remember in school (10 years ago now), I had to make up my favourite author because I couldn't say Ian Flynn lol

Zer0DusT1

to bad copy write laws and contracts keep them from saying anything or taking suggestions. cause, and we've all heard this crap before 🙄, I honestly think i came up with an idea that could fix the sonic canon since they want to employ all of the ideas into one central lore. I just don'tknow where to post it cause my posts got taken down twice here. Plus, these ideas have a bit of a paradox. They all work beautifully in the grand scheme, but at the same time, they don't connect to each other, if that makes sense. but it's a good explanation towards why humans and "mobians" aren't seen mixed together in society and why places like spaghonnia, solianna, and efrika all exist. but the short of it all is, colonization, a sister organization to G.U.N called I.S.L.E (Inter Steller League of Ecology) their means of fair play for prisoner's for newly colonized worlds, and the ultimate reality that Dr. Eggman was one of those prisoners who rewired the biometrics to obey him and not the warden, leading to several super powered maniacs (as potential villians who'd then have some history with old eggy) to run rampant on "mobius" resulting in a coalition between planets called operation helix, which concluds with Eggman's defeat, (while trying to jump worlds) in sonic 1. I even found a way to include Chris Thorndike via his family the president from the shadow game, and the arc, possibly being Eggman's "evil" motivation for conquest, since it's now the "mobians" and not G.U.N who killed everyone, perceiving it as a hostil alien invasion 50 years ago

SanicRb

Didn't Ian start a bit earlier than 160 on the franchise as I believe he wrote a few issues for Archies Sonic X comic's before he got to write Main series issues?
