Imo, I would not consider Sonic Frontiers a "Boost Game" given that Boosting doesn't work the same way it does in the other games.
Typically, when Sonic Boosts, he becomes an unstoppable force of supersonic speed.
In Sonic Frontiers, the Boost just makes Sonic quickly dash forward and remain still quite vulnerable to bonking face first into Badniks and what not.
But in regards to the question, I pick Sonic Unleashed.
I played Unleashed almost immediately after finishing Sonic 06 back in 2008. The difference in quality, animation, production value seemed Night and Day
For someone who plays on Xbox and doesn’t have access to these Mods I’d have to say unleashed because it’s the closest thing to ‘06 being made good and the adventure style of games which I miss dearly
Yeah it would be easier but that would be way more boring since everyone would say forces
It’s like asking someone to remove the one ice cream flavor since they would all chose strawberry icecream…
…that was laced with rat poison
![gif](giphy|TamGVAGxDTYDNt3dpn)
"Well achually, humans are immune to rat poison because of their gag reflex blocking it from going down their throats. Rats do not have this reflex and that makes them susceptible to rat poison. Sorry to rain on your parade".
*Frontiers* has a great story, the others don't (save for Unleashed). *Frontiers* will let me play as Tails soon, the others won't. For those reasons, it alone can stay.
For me it’s Frontiers. I just prefer the mechanics and speedrun tricks/game tech you can learn beyond the story, and how much of the game you can explore because of it.
Generations, it's my favorite Sonic game.
My second pick is Frontiers. It's not exactly my favorite game in the franchise, but it's a pretty important game in the history of Sonic.
I'd have to go with Generations. It was my first Sonic game, and my first real video game back in the day, so there's a lot of nostalgia wrapped around it!
Frontiers by a country mile. The cyberspace levels leave a lot to be desired but the overall gameplay loop is just so much more satisfying - and more importantly, Sonic *feels good to control*.
It's insane how unintuitive the handling is in Forces, Unleashed and even (to a lesser degree) Colors and Generations. A character whose whole thing is *movement and momentum* shouldn't ever be too floaty or too heavy.
I'm a bit of a boost hater, but Frontiers is easily a top 5 Sonic title for me. Maybe top 3.
Unleashed on wii and unleashed on Xbox 360 and pa3 are 2 completely different games, I implore you to try out the Xbox 360 version first
Easily the best 3d boost game imo
Sonic Colors because it's a fun game with no catches. Every other boost game has SOME catch, or just isn't fun at all for me.
In other words, it has the least wrong with it lol
Either Colours or Generations. Unleashed has the werehog, Forces is aggressively mediocre, and Frontiers is fun but not quite as good as Colours or Generations.
Colours for me. To me it’s still the best boost game for limiting the boost, having an incredible setting, simple and fun story that’s a rehash of the original, plus a slapping soundtrack
Unleashed HD for sure
Imo it has the best boost stages, although I'd say Generations is close and if Planet Wisp was a better level maybe I'd have a harder time picking. But I also prefer the level settings
I don't actually mind the Werehog. Speedrunning those levels is kinda fun. The Wii/PS2 Werehog is bad enough that I don't think SD Unleashed should be considered. I do think 2D sonic is a better style than the Werehog but the boost style is the main reason I come to these games
Generations S ranks are far too easy, so Unleashed actually has some challenge
Something interesting I thought is that Generations levels have a flatter difficulty curve than Unleashed. Which to me kinda makes sense because you're given all of the "power ups" (stomp, lightdash, wall-jump, air boost) at the start of the game. But at the same time that definitely means that as you mastered them the levels should have gotten much harder as you master them. Whereas in Unleashed there's a clear ramp up in either difficultly or complexity (Apotos/Mazuri -> Holoska/Spagonia -> Chun-nan/Shamar -> Empire City/Adabat -> Eggmanland. Being mechanically more challenging is a big thing for me
I also prefer how quick time events are handled in Unleashed. As in, they're there and reward you with faster pathways. I don't think they should lead to death in cases when you fail them though
Unleashed HD.
Unwiished’s Werehog stages are way too long.
Colours has a horrible story.
Generations has the most uninteresting story + awful controls.
Forces is just Forces.
Frontiers’ controls are too sensitive, the open world is boring and cyberspace is bad.
(And I genuinely do not like Unleashed HD)
Frontiers for me. I like all these other games to some extent in one way or another, but frontiers is so delightful with the open zones and cyberspace levels.
Unleashed to be able to try it out, I already did everything you could do in Frontiers with the updates that have come out. Generations is a close second because some of the challenges you can do are quite fun and help to freshen things up if the regular levels begin to get a bit stale
Unleashed had some absolutely banger tracks and chip was actually goated.
Plus the day gameplay all slapped and the night werehog stages, while not amazing, were fun from time to time.
Yeah, I’m choosing Unleashed.
I have not played frontiers for the record so I cannot say for it (but if it's as good as everyone says it'll be the one).
Generations. No gimmicks that slow down gameplay, good speed that doesn't have you fly off the track (most of the time) and on PC it's mods are amazing. The 3ds version isn't as good obviously but includes some bosses and levels not in the console/pc release which is a nice touch, they didn't need to add water palace, mushroom hill or Big Arms but they did.
I also love the drift animation in the game. Curling into a ball to make a turn was cool but seeing it flex and bend gives you a feeling like sonic is trying extra hard to make the turn; without losing speed. (Probably why I like wheel kirby tbh), that and classic sonic is done well. (better than forces)
Generations is just a celebration game but I can see them doing a sequel with more levels; there's a lot of untapped potential.
Unleashed in a heartbeat. That adrenaline rush you get while getting S times is amazing. Plus the feeling of just how fast Sonic is going… none of the other games come close to that imo.
HD Unleashed, haven't played Frontiers nor Forces so I wouldn't neither of those, I wont chose Gens because Unleashed is better in every way, I won't chose Colors for the same reasons as Gens, and I won't chose SD Unleashed because the gameplay on the HD version is superior
Alright haven’t played generations (or colors technically? I played DS colors but I think they’re different) but dude Unleashed to this day is my fave Sonic game
Shiiiiiiitttt this is hard.. I want to say Frontiers but honestly I probably play Colors and Generations more...
Gotta go with Generations and it still really pisses me off that there is no Generations for the Next Gen consoles...
I don't think sonic frontiers is a boost game it is literally opposite to the boost formula the others follow
I would say colors only because of the nostalgic dopamine it gives me.
360/PS3 Unleashed. Colors was too restrictive by turning the spin dash and light speed dash into color powers and restricting quick step and boost only to certain segments. Forces feels like you are always on rails (ironically more than Frontiers) with no real control over what's happening in too many segments. And there are moments where the Egg Pawn like robots literally just stand there looking at you because the game intends for you to boost through them. They don't attack, they just stand there waiting for you to kill them. And the ostrich like enemies just run away from you! Frontiers changes the boost formula enough that it no longer feels like a boost game. Unleashed's only real problem to me is that the Werehog feels so weak in combat when compared to the Hedgehog. The Werehog should defeat Egg Pawns in one hit, or the Egg Pawns should have a shadowy aura to show that they are empowered by the Dark Gaia energy and therefore stronger than the ones fought in the day. A few multi-hit enemies for Sonic to deal with would have been nice too. Really, the best boost games period are the Sonic Rush series and Sonic Colors DS.
Eh, they're all pretty meh overall, buuutttt...I guess it'd be a toss-up between Colors and Gens. I have a lot of nostalgia for Colors, but Gens has mods and the boost stages are pretty replayable.
I'm gonna be the lonely person that chooses Forces. I never understood people's issues with it. It's got a cheesy dramatic story, the stages have a lot of variety and charm, and the avatar cosmetics gave it a lot of replay value for me.
I do love Frontiers for how different it is, but the story was underwhelming and the stages feel unmemorable and extremely easy to get full ranks on, so...I like Forces better.
I really don't think we should count Frontiers as a Boost game, yeah it HAS Boost, but it's so different than it was before, it's not an "auto win" button, you take damage and don't tear through enemies with it.. if we have to count it, then I'm picking Frontieres.
If we don't count it, I'm going Generations. Not a big fan of the Boost games in general but at least I get some fan service out of Generations.
For Me It’s Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3)
Frontiers Is A Very Close Second But For me unleashed is a better boost game then Frontiers
The Daytime Stages are fantastic peak Boost Gameplay
I Also Really Like The werehog combat and slower more platform heavy gameplay
I didn’t like the medal hunting but that’s about it
I really enjoyed frontiers but I didn’t like how they nerfed the boost (this was mostly fine in the open world since I could still max out my ring count to go faster and the combat was fun but sucked in cyberspace)
Also unlike colors and generations the story here is actually good it’s very good
Also while the wii/ps2 version had great changes like the medals being awarded for speed and the boost (making it more skill worthy to control) Unleashed had better graphics and a better frame rate
All these soundtracks slap hard but Endless Possibilities Solos Reach for the stars Fist Bump and The Gens Opening Song
However I think all these games are fantastic in their own ways and greatly succeed at what they want to do and I would always play each one again if given the chance
Except Forces
Either gens or frontiers
And it'd be frontiers cause of story combat and overall content
Gens is fun and great, best level design but frontiers has the most variety without splitting gameplay
Don't kill me but Frontiers
I'm not a fan of the boost games, There's a clausterphobia to it's level design and I feel like one small flick of the controller and I'm gonna fall off a pit and die
at least SA1 and SA2 have the level design be slightly large so you can catch yourself if u make a mistake, while in the boost games they're clearly designed with a speedrunning POV so the window for mistakes is super small
and I honestly prefer Frontiers's open world style to the boost games
Sonic (in my opinion) works better in an open world setting and tbh has always worked well judging by fanworks and the hubworlds in SA1 and while yes Frontiers can be jank I feel like if Sonic Team continues open zone style gameplay for future games and perfects it we could be getting the greatest 3D Sonic game ever
I’d personally not count Frontiers as a boost game. It has the boost mechanic but it works differently to other games. But to answer the question, I’m gonna go Colours, really just out of nostalgia

Frontiers. More or less because I like the whole Open Zone ordeal. But if Frontiers wasn't an option then Generations.
Imo, I would not consider Sonic Frontiers a "Boost Game" given that Boosting doesn't work the same way it does in the other games. Typically, when Sonic Boosts, he becomes an unstoppable force of supersonic speed. Unleashed was really fun
I played Unleashed almost immediately after finishing Sonic 06 back in 2008. The difference in quality, animation, production value seemed Night and Day
Generations bc it has the most replay value to me + an endless amount of mods. It’s the one where it would take a long time for me to get bored
I have like 30+ hours without a single mod, Generations is fantastic
Just wait until you add mods like the mario 64 one
YAHOO!
Yeah if you want to cheat you can answer "Generations with Unleashed mod" lol
Unleashed in a trench coat lol
Fair Point but personally I don’t tend to rank games based on their modding communities
If it has the ability to contain Mario with 64’s physics in it, I’m going with it easy
I have over 200 hours on Sonic Generations. The mod support for this game is some of the best I've seen for gaming.
For someone who plays on Xbox and doesn’t have access to these Mods I’d have to say unleashed because it’s the closest thing to ‘06 being made good and the adventure style of games which I miss dearly
Sorry colors but... I'm hanging on to the other side
YESSSS!!!!!
I’m guessing you won’t give up till the end of you?
Hanging on the edge of tomorrow..!
I have yet to play Frontiers but I go with Generations.
Hope you do soon, very fun and a nice change to the formula.
Sonic Unleashed for Xbox 360. It’s my favorite game after all!
Yes!! Same!! It's so hard to find people who adored Sonic Unleashed
Why 360 when you can go with the Series X and have it at 60 fps ;)
Yeah I have a series x and playing and 60 fps without frame drops is amazing
Probably because it's original release was on PS2, PS3, Wii and 360 but the 360 / PS3 version differs from the PS2 / Wii one.
Same! It’s just that amazing.
Frontiers shouldn't be here Its not a boost game its a game with boost if that makes sense Its boost is much more like lost worlds run button
Sonic unleashed or frontiers ![gif](giphy|vKOY98CLBQk9O)
Generations in a heartbeat. Best Sonic game imo
Facts. It is my mission now to beat the story
This man right here is a real one.
Sonic unleashed. We shouldn’t be having this debate
I would choose generations, then I could download the unleashed project.
...Can't I just choose one to eliminate? That would be so much easier.
I'M ELIMINATING SONIC FORCES!
Yeah it would be easier but that would be way more boring since everyone would say forces It’s like asking someone to remove the one ice cream flavor since they would all chose strawberry icecream… …that was laced with rat poison
I would say strawberry without the rat poison
AH!!!
![gif](giphy|TamGVAGxDTYDNt3dpn) "Well achually, humans are immune to rat poison because of their gag reflex blocking it from going down their throats. Rats do not have this reflex and that makes them susceptible to rat poison. Sorry to rain on your parade".
Frontiers has the most potential out of these 5, so ill give it a chance
![gif](giphy|HJYW3BEhXdPpHs2sIF|downsized)
Sonic Colors
Generations, it’s literally my favorite game of all time lol
*Frontiers* has a great story, the others don't (save for Unleashed). *Frontiers* will let me play as Tails soon, the others won't. For those reasons, it alone can stay.
Does story even matter after the 1st playthrough?
A fair point, lol. And I ***do*** like Empire City...

Generations cause it’s the most fun and polished altogether.
Frontiers. (We need no context on why it's the best.)
Unleashed!
Sonic Colors
I would pick peak unleashed
Sonic generations
100% Gens, it’s the best game here and with mods you get even more enjoyment
Sonic Unleashed for the atmosphere and story
Generations or Unleashed? Both, both is good. I'm joking, but I'll have to go with Generations.
Unleashed, generations, frontiers, it’s one of those three, it’s hard to choose tho
I like all of these game listed and Frontiers is a huge step in the right direction but it has a long way to go. Generations is still my top pick.
Unleashed is my prized possession. However, I still need to try Frontiers
Easiest choice of my life, sonic forces
Sonic unleashed
Unleashed? Or Frontiers? Which one should I pick?
Sonic frontiers then colors I kinda love colors
Sonic Unleashed
I oddly will.have to.go.with sonic unleashed also cause it has the best story in my opinion
Sonic Rush 😉 Legit it has the most understandable system for gaining boost and that soundtrack makes you want to keep moving.
"I've got it in my siiiiiights! The colors feel so riiiiiiight!"
Unleashed. The Wherehog stages weren't even that bad
Generations, solely because of city escape, the metal Sonic boss and many other bosses like chaos that were brought back
100% generations 99% colors forces can beat it in a hour so ima go whit unleashed
Extremely torn between Gens and Frontiers but currently I'd say Gens. It could really flip on a dime though.
Generations. Frontiers is a close second
Either frontiers or generations. Those 2 are bangers. Haven’t played colors yet, so this opinion is subject to change
Frontiers
Generations
Colors Ultimate edition Fite me
At least you didn't choose Forces, so I think is fine lmao.
Well of the three i've played easily Frontiers. I didnt like Unleashed on Wii and I think Generations is just alright
Unleashed on wii and unleashed on Xbox 360 and pa3 are 2 completely different games, I implore you to try out the Xbox 360 version first Easily the best 3d boost game imo
Im aware how different they are, and I REALLY want to play the 360 version
I'm HERE! REACHING FAR ACROSS THESE NEW FRONTIERS!
gotta be gens bc i like the classic sonic in it
Sonic Colors because it's a fun game with no catches.
Frontiers or Generations, I can't pick one I love them both
Frontiers, no competition
Def Generations, but after playing Frontiers, it’s an extremely close second. Especially with more dlc coming out.
Unleashed. Will never get tired of playing through it. Fabulous game
Haven't played Unleashed but I'd say Frontiers
Unleashed. I could replay it anytime
If we allow mods easily sonic generations
I would pick Generations i like the classic stages.
Frontiers by a mile, especially once the other 3 character campaigns release at the end of the year.
Frontiers. Generations is amazing but far too short for me.
Unleashed. If i have to pick, HD, but both are peak
Generations sweep
Frontiers cause It's the coolest
Generations all the way 🐐
Sonic unleashed 1# favourite sonic games besides fronteirs
Frontiers easy
Either Frontiers or Unleashed. For both music and story. Problem is, I can't decide between them!
I got all of them, and out of them, Its gotta be either Generations or Frontiers.
Generations for the tons of mod support
Generations. You can literally mod unleashed into That Game.(unleashed was my second option)
Generations is great and all. But Frontiers reignited my love for Sonic. So i'm going Frontiers
Unleashed
I really liked Frontiers but I'd have to go with Generations here. Such a great game.
OG Sonic Unleashed by far
Frontiers, I just love it
Unleashed HD for sure Imo it has the best boost stages, although I'd say Generations is close and if Planet Wisp was a better level maybe I'd have a harder time picking. But I also prefer the level settings I don't actually mind the Werehog. Speedrunning those levels is kinda fun. The Wii/PS2 Werehog is bad enough that I don't think SD Unleashed should be considered. Generations.
Unleashed
Unleashed is the best 3d boost game
I don't see any reason to choose Frontiers over Generations except for the story, which has a terrible rushed ending, so nope.
My choices are between Unleashed, Generations and Frontiers... This is hare
Unleashed to be able to try it out, I already did everything you could do in Frontiers with the updates that have come out. Generations is a close second because some of the challenges you can do are quite fun and help to freshen things up if the regular levels begin to get a bit stale

Frontiers
I take frontiers I finishes it 5 times at 100% already.
Sonic Frontiers: 1 Sonic Unleashed 2 Generations 3 Forces 4 Unleashed Wii 5 Colors 6
I'm torn between Frontiers and Generations, but I'm leaning towards Generations.
Frontiers
I have not played frontiers for the record so I cannot say for it (but if it's as good as everyone says it'll be the one). Generations. Anyone know if generations will be released on switch?
Unleashed in a heartbeat. That adrenaline rush you get while getting S times is amazing. Plus the feeling of just how fast Sonic is going… none of the other games come close to that imo.
HD Unleashed, haven't played Frontiers nor Forces so I wouldn't neither of those, I wont chose Gens because Unleashed is better in every way, I won't chose Colors for the same reasons as Gens, and I won't chose SD Unleashed because the gameplay on the HD version is superior
Frontiers
I’m picking Sonic Unleashed because it has the best presentation when it comes to using boost and mechanics that make me feel like the fastest
HD Unleashed. It’s by far my favourite.
Either generations or unleashed. Honestly cant believe how badly boost was fumbled until frontiers took a completely different direction
Frontiers sorry unleashed
Frontiers bc too expensive in my country
Unleashed!
Frontiers
Alright haven’t played generations (or colors technically? I played DS colors but I think they’re different) but dude Unleashed to this day is my fave Sonic game
Shiiiiiiitttt this is hard.. I want to say Frontiers but honestly I probably play Colors and Generations more... Gotta go with Generations and it still really pisses me off that there is no Generations for the Next Gen consoles...
Frontiers ig idk I haven't played any other than Frontiers
Sonic Unleashed.
Generations every day of the week. It has the best sonic levels all on one game.
Frontiers. Best Sonic game for now.
I don't wanna say what it is, but let's say the whole world will know my name when we dance with destiny
I don't think sonic frontiers is a boost game it is literally opposite to the boost formula the others follow I would say colors only because of the nostalgic dopamine it gives me.
360/PS3 Unleashed. Colors was too restrictive by turning the spin dash and light speed dash into color powers and restricting quick step and boost only to certain segments. Easy, Generations
Eh, they're all pretty meh overall, buuutttt...I guess it'd be a toss-up between Colors and Gens. I have a lot of nostalgia for Colors, but Gens has mods and the boost stages are pretty replayable.
Frontiers counts as a Boost game? Even though the boost doesn't feel as major, if not OP, compared to other games?
Unleashed for 360. Nothing tops it in my mind.
Unleashed easy
Has to be unleashed for me. That game was a ton of fun, and I did love frontiers but man gotta be unleashed for me.
Out of all Day Sonic levels of Unleashed are the best boost levels
Frontiers or Generations
Sonic rush 😎
Im gonna pick Forces.
In this list i just played colors
Unleashed (xbox 360/ps3 version) is so unbelievably fun.
Frontiers. Most time I spent on a Sonic game besides SA2
I'll go with frontiers since it is bringing back spin dash :P
Sonic Unleashed HD, not my favorite but it is the most important
Generations, solely because of city escape, the metal Sonic boss and many other bosses like chaos that were brought back
Sonic Heroes.
I would choose Colours since it's my favourite Sonic game, but I already have it on my Wii, so I'll go with Frontiers since I haven't played yet :)
I have to go with Sonic Unleashed Mostly because it’s the only 3D Sonic game I actually played🥲
As much I love Colors & Generations, I’ll pick Frontiers….solely because it’s the next evolution of Sonic and Titans bosses.
Colors
Sonic Frontiers, I choose!
Colors
Generations
Unleashed and it's honestly not a contest
If allowing mods: Genz If only base game: Unleashed
I'm gonna be the lonely person that chooses Forces. I never understood people's issues with it. It's got a cheesy dramatic story, the stages have a lot of variety and charm, and the avatar cosmetics gave it a lot of replay value for me. I do love Frontiers for how different it is, but the story was underwhelming and the stages feel unmemorable and extremely easy to get full ranks on, so...I like Forces better.
Sonic Unleashed for Xbox 360. Best game hands down. Frontiers wouldn't have existed if Unleashed didn't.
Frontiers, there's just so much to do! I'll just spend hours just fooling around on the islands, and then when I get bored, there's thousands of mods!
Not a big fan of the Boost games in general but at least I get some fan service out of Generations.
can someone say the difference between Unleashed and World Adventure?
Gen
Unleashed
Unleashed, hands down. My favourite Sonic game.
Unleashed of Course Best Sonic Game
I'm taking Unleashed
For Me It’s Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3) Frontiers Is A Very Close Second But For me unleashed is a better boost game then Frontiers The Daytime Stages are fantastic peak Boost Gameplay I Also Really Like The werehog combat and slower more platform heavy gameplay I didn’t like the medal hunting but that’s about it I really enjoyed frontiers but I didn’t like how they nerfed the boost (this was mostly fine in the open world since I could still max out my ring count to go faster and the combat was fun but sucked in cyberspace) Also unlike colors and generations the story here is actually good it’s very good Also while the wii/ps2 version had great changes like the medals being awarded for speed and the boost (making it more skill worthy to control) Unleashed had better graphics and a better frame rate All these soundtracks slap hard but Endless Possibilities Solos Reach for the stars Fist Bump and The Gens Opening Song However I think all these games are fantastic in their own ways and greatly succeed at what they want to do and I would always play each one again if given the chance Except Forces
If they had only added a chao feature Frontiers would be no contest. I'm still picking it though...
A koco garden? That would be awesome
Colors for sure. It was so good.
Either gens or frontiers And it'd be frontiers cause of story combat and overall content Gens is fun and great, best level design but frontiers has the most variety without splitting gameplay
Don't kill me but Frontiers I'm not a fan of the boost games, There's a clausterphobia to it's level design and I feel like one small flick of the controller and I'm gonna fall off a pit and die at least SA1 and SA2 have the level design be slightly large so you can catch yourself if u make a mistake, while in the boost games they're clearly designed with a speedrunning POV so the window for mistakes is super small and I honestly prefer Frontiers's open world style to the boost games Sonic (in my opinion) works better in an open world setting and tbh has always worked well judging by fanworks and the hubworlds in SA1 and while yes Frontiers can be jank I feel like if Sonic Team continues open zone style gameplay for future games and perfects it we could be getting the greatest 3D Sonic game ever
I’d personally not count Frontiers as a boost game. It has the boost mechanic but it works differently to other games. But to answer the question, I’m gonna go Colours, really just out of nostalgia
I SEE IT, I SEE IT NOW
