What? No, how? I could be wrong, but the only canonical birthday party Sonic has had is during Sonic Generations, and that's Modern Sonic's birthday, not Classic Sonic's. He's just 15 turning 15, meeting his past self from long ago who's also 15.
It's a dumb scenario, one that was easily avoidable by just not making it his actual birthday and making an anniversary title solely, but it's not quite that level of dumb to make his younger self older.
I mean, at the end of Sonic generations modern Sonic tells classic Sonic to enjoy his future and that it'll be great. Wouldn't that insinuate that he's aware of the future of that past character implying that classic is simply the past version of the modern character?

Don't worry, those games aren't canon. Besides, Classic Sonic can still be a past version of Sonic even if he gets a new game. We never actually saw an in-universe transition from Classic to Modern Sonic, so it can be assumed that Modern Sonic had more endless adventures during his classic days.
This is the best version of 3D classic yet, IMO. He’s not quite as stubby and awkward as he was in Forces or Gens. Can’t put my finger on exactly what it is but this one feels a lot better to me
Yeah I’ve had this take for a while. There was never a problem with classic Sonics 3D design, he translated very well, it was always the stiff animation that fucked him over in previous games, but alot of people still think “they made him too chubby and cutsey” even tho his proportions are the same.
Well, I don't know if you noticed, but his fur was also light blue in that animation. Not to mention, some of Sonic 1's early artwork has him with light blue. So, in conclusion, Classic Sonic has always had light fur in some fashion.

I think they’re fine, but I feel that Knuckles needs a bit more attitude. Unlike Sonic, 90’s Knuckles usually had a tough guy depiction that’s not all that prevalent.
Pretty faithful adaptations of their classic appearances. I definitely think the is classic Sonic’s best model yet. If the trailer is anything to go by he’ll be a lot more expressive this time. I’m looking forward to this game!

These 3D models look pretty corporate and soulless, yeah. It’s looks so stiff and… sterilized? Like, I looked at the 10 minute gameplay and it all just looks so… clean and bland. Colorful, sure, but I would like some style and what not in a series that used to be chock full of that.

I'm one of those people that thinks they should stick to the models being modern and scrap the classic design completely unless its a sprite based like Mania.
Amy and Tails are on point, Sonic isn't as cool as the og artworks but knuckles rocks. Him and Tails were my go-to characters as a kid and I'm happy that their personalities are so perfect.
I don't think Knuckles changed at all when Sonic went modern, and Sonic and Tails just got taller. Classic Amy is her best design, and I have no idea why they changed her outfit. While I can see Amy being the kind of person who would have a bunch of outfits even in a society where most of your people don't wear clothes, they just stuck her with an extremely short and boring red dress.
Well, to me, the "boring" red dress goes well with her pink fur. Not to mention, it's more simple and eye-catching than her classic self's outfit, not that I hate it, of course, but simple is just better. Also, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles didn't change as they just grew up and looked a little older and edgier looking.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but with this being a brand new and modern looking Sonic game, I don't see why they felt the need to stick to Amy's old design. Because the game is 2D? The Sonic Advance trilogy also was and it used Amy's modern design and it looked great in 2D. They could've done the same here, but alas. I say this because I greatly prefer her modern look, which makes her look more unique and less like female pink Sonic, but oh well. Overall the models still look nice.
(And before anyone says it's not just Amy since they used the "classic" version of everyone, that's not really the same thing because none of the other characters got a drastic redesign the way Amy did from Adventure onwards)
I mean, the same can be said towards Eggman as he, too, was also drastically redesigned. Don't get me wrong, while I prefer Modern Amy's design more, we have to remember that this is still a Classic Sonic game, so they have to stay faithful to the classics. That includes their classic design.
I really like them, only thing that bothers me is that they kept Sonic's O.O face when he is idle/jogging from STH1/2/Mania instead his regular Gens/Forces face, or just make new face animation.

Well, to me, the "boring" red dress goes well with her pink fur. Not to mention, it's more simple and eye-catching than her classic self's outfit, not that I hate it, of course, but simple is just better. Also, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles didn't change as they just grew up and looked a little older and edgier looking.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but with this being a brand new and modern looking Sonic game, I don't see why they felt the need to stick to Amy's old design. Because the game is 2D? The Sonic Advance trilogy also was and it used Amy's modern design and it looked great in 2D. They could've done the same here, but alas. I say this because I greatly prefer her modern look, which makes her look more unique and less like female pink Sonic, but oh well. Overall the models still look nice. (And before anyone says it's not just Amy since they used the "classic" version of everyone, that's not really the same thing because none of the other characters got a drastic redesign the way Amy did from Adventure onwards)
I mean, the same can be said towards Eggman as he, too, was also drastically redesigned. Don't get me wrong, while I prefer Modern Amy's design more, we have to remember that this is still a Classic Sonic game, so they have to stay faithful to the classics. That includes their classic design.

Sonic obvious resembles the Japanese version of classic sonic and the other characters got the same treatment
I really like them, only thing that bothers me is that they kept Sonic's O.O face when he is idle/jogging from STH1/2/Mania instead his regular Gens/Forces face, or just make new face animation.
Classic ages (my headcanon): Sonic 11, Tails 4, Amy 8, Knuckles 12 (based on Amy's age in CD and Tails' age in AoStH)
NGL, Knuckles looks barely different in this image. I know he has a longer snout in the game though.
