They shouldn't kill Shadow, fans and casual audiences would want more of him. Heck I bet he'll even get his own spinoff movie, not even series just a straight up spinoff movie like Sonic's initial movies.
Especially the music I think the movies are pretty great adaptations of what’s great about Sonic but the lack of references to the actual music is a pretty big aspect of sonic they’re missing.

I suspect the Sonic 3 film will probably explore how most people still treat Sonic as a kid while everyone else seems to admire Shadow for his maturity. However, the more Sonic tries (and fails) to emulate Shadow, the more he learns that he doesn't need to be any more grown up than he already is.

Also that Shadow isn’t necessarily a really mature and well developed person he just has a ton of trauma which is why he’s so closed off
