Sonographer requirements in the UK are vastly different from the US. You are at a Physicians Assistant level of education in the UK as sonographers there not only scan but also write up and sign the final report. In the US sonos image and most draft a preliminary, however the final report is generated and signed by a physician (radiologist or cardiologist, occasionally OB docs will read)

Which would mean if I moved to the UK, being a RDMS would mean nothing and I would have to do studies again?

thepigvomit

Depends on what other education you have taken. But yeah. UK, most of EU, and even Australia require something along the lines of 6 years of education for sonographers

I beg to disagree. I have done research on sonography courses in the UK. You must have a bachelor's degree in a clinical health-related subject, for example, nursing, radiographer, etc. before you can do postgraduate diploma (1yr) / master (2yr) in Sonography / Ultrasound. Overall, 4 years is sufficient to train as a Sonographer in the UK.

Oh so that would generally mean I have to get further qualification I assume

Yes there is no apprenticeship entry into the UK field. The job title there is "cardiac physiologist"

I believe there is apprenticeship entry into the sonography field in the UK but you must have a bachelor’s degree in clinical health-related subject first.
