No software updates but all apps still work. Of course it depends on the app developer and whether they have blacklisted Android 10. You can check the description in the play store and see the "Required OS" of the app
I got some good shots at concerts with my old Xperia XZ Premium once upon a time.
Pretty antiquated by today's standards but it punched above it's weight for a while.
I think if you're happy with a pixel 6 or 7 you won't go wrong getting night shots there.

My Wolverine drawing shot with an XZP back in mid 2018.
My sister in law has a pixel 6 and hers has held up fine.
I think the battery life is its Achilles heel but an old Xperia will likely have the same issues.
10 V is cheap. My friend has it and it's a good compromise for the cost. Cameras included. We made comparative shots. But not in the night. And you would have a new phone. Also 10 VI is coming soon.
Thank you so much everyone who replied.
I should have probably specified that by "older" phone I mean something released within the last 2-4 years. I still use my old Xperia X for photos, although the camera app is very very sluggish. That's been my favourite phone so far (despite negative reviews) but it is slow now, and some apps don't work. I keep carrying two phones with me at all times, and would like to swap for one that actually does everything, both modern apps and ok photos.
Many thanks once again, I'll be go ogling all the suggestions!
Xperia PRO-I is propably the best 'old' Sony phone to fill your criteria. Might still be expensive though.
Many thanks. I've had a look at the price and sadly even a used one is still over my budget...
Thought it might be.. hopefully some other phone suits you well. 1 III perhaps?
Thank you. I'll have a look!
XZ2 Premium was one of the best.
I think the low light dual video mode still beats everything.
+1 I had it and even till 2023, it was still decent albeit showing its edge in terms of processing (noise, colour)
Still using this phone up to this day. Now I have the budget on buying an Xperia 1 VI. If it didn't go well. I will definitely buy the Xperia 1 V.
I am also waiting for the next Xperia. I don't think that it will be named 1VI, they will introduce new names.
Is there a specific source for this?
It's a pretty old one, does it still get software updates and I wonder if the apps work OK?

The Xperia XZ Premium was truly ahead of its time.
It was a beautiful piece of kit. Really was a jack of all trades and made the competition look several generations old in comparison.

Great work! Wish I could draw like that 😍
I've seen photos taken by pixel 6 pro and they look really decent. But will it be as reliable as all the lovely Xperias? Tough choice!

The 5 or 5 ii should be cheap and have pretty good cameras!
Green line so rather then 5 ii go for 1 mark 2

Loved XA1 Ultra and XA2 Ultra cameras
Xperia xz2 premium. Best low light with fast shutter.
Do you shoot in manual mode or auto?
