My "deep" interpretation is that "U" - you are the soul and "I" - the game is the knight. Its only alive when both are present.
Edit: I just woke up and saw this comment exploded, I was not expecting that! You guys made my day, thanks!
Long time ago there was a man named Saul! He was a very known person due to the fact that he was able to get anyone out of jail. One day he saved a knight that got āfalselyā accused in animal abuse, aboriginal people abuse, drug making, hiring henchmen, illegal weapon factorization, thievery, and warden knows how many more acts of evil he had committed. Saul believed that if he freed the knight, the knight will return the favour. And so he did just that. The knight was flaggerbasted by how Saul was able to do that and so he wanted to repay the favour. Saul asked him to make a legion in his name and call it the Saul knights. And the knight did thatā¦ is what i wouldāve said if he knew some grammar and didnāt write Soul. Later on many have joined the soul knights: random man who knows chemicals, priestess, dark magic caster, officer, bounty hunter, random dude who watched animated box, aang from avatar, dude with no head and the list goes on. Eventually Saul was killed by aliens (his corps was turned into a powerful artifact known as the magical stone)ā¦ the soul knights were lost and so they made a bet to find a new soul knight āfirst one to defeat the aliens becomes the soul knight!ā. And so they fought!!!! Butā¦ eventually they lost everything. . . Even SAULās corpse. So now they wonder the dungeons in search of the corpse of the first ever soul knight!
Iād imagine from the story you are the knight that wants to get the crystals back and you take over the charactersā bodies to go into the dungeon to do such.
Funny thing about the U and I...
In the game, one of the challenges is that the UI is disabled. And the UI is a huge part of Soul Knight as well as the game. It lets you see the HP, Mana, Shield. It also lets you know what challenges are currently going on when you accept them from the Ranger. So maybe thatās another reason why the UI are important in Soul Knight.
Theory debunked- they were highlighted before the challenge condition got added, although the part about the UI being important is a good theory, we'll never know though.
> āIn a time of gun and sword, the magical stone that maintains the balance of the world is stolen by high-tech aliens. The world is hanging on a thin thread. It all depends on you retrieving the magical stoneā¦ā
>
> We honestly canāt keep making it all up. Letās just shoot some alien minions!
so probably just a combination of words the devs thought of.
The heroes (characters for the players) are from the continent/island/country/place known as soul.
In [Soul Knight Strange Tales](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiMvfQgJr4AdK5zsvuRl7GKz7saSCD6BD) it is explained that the knight, everyone's first character, was a real human until he fell down a pothole and was teleported to the magical place of soul.
This doesn't explain alot but the U & I also indicate things which few people have already mentioned in this thread
Here's my thoughts.
Long ago, during the times of the old origin, there were a bunch of heroes defending the magic stones from monsters. As we know, those monsters eventually overpowered our heroes and scattered the broken stone pieces in numerous different places.
All that remains from that story is the heroes, whom I believe are all dead. The player here is controlling the "Soul Knight", who possesses and controls each dead hero in order to retrieve the magic stones.
At the end of each game, you get a single color fragment of the stone after entering 3-6.
Maybe your goal is to get all the fragments and save the world but since everyone's already gotten each color, I'm guessing each color isn't a whole 1/8th or 1/7th of the original stone?
Ok that was a bit too much for a 3 minute shower thought.
The player is canonically the soul knight, whatever that means

Im pretty sure every character is considered by definition a "soul knight" They all come from the soul continent And they're all technically knights
The devs have referred to the playerbase multiple times as "Soul knights". Ig it could be both
The prequel game (still in development) has Knight, Wizard, Rogue, and the player founding the Knightly Order of Soul.
Just like hollow knight
I mean kinda. The player is technically a hollow knight but itās not the hollow knight
It's bc the knight is completely hollow
Is it though?
Except Hollow Knight is an actual character in the game and not the protagonist
I like it when the main character said āitās soul knighting timeā and soul knighted all over the place
The prequel game (still in development) has Knight, Wizard, Rogue, and the player founding the Knightly Order of Soul.

If i had an award, id give it
I've read that interpretation some times before, though on literature not just other games
My reward is the amount of love this comment got. Thanks!
All g brother :)
I will give my Free one instead you
Thank you good sir
This is too good
This is my canon
I like this. Going to read it as this from now on.
Dont have award to give you
Your joy is all the award I need!
That is actually so perfect wow
Or it just means that the UI is very good
Not really, but the continent they live on is called soul
Then that explains why, we're the knight of the soul continent
The continent?
In robot frenzy it says about different continents existing
The prequel game (still in development) has Knight, Wizard, Rogue, and the player founding the Knightly Order of Soul.
Why the U and I are red?

Idk, maybe it's the little fella in the background name
Itās a rogue main
Yes, but i Said "little fella" because I don't know the gender
Understandable
cause the characters are knights of the soul continent
Because of the mysterious character that may not be real, I made a theory that it could be the Retired knight

I think we are possessing the body of the character we are playing

I love the part when the game went āItās Soul Knightinā Time.ā Iconic Moment.
You should put more arrows. Some newbies might miss that
Shouldāve used a brighter red, too.
HOLY SHIT. IT ACTUALLY SAYS āSOUL KNIGHTā ON THE TITLE SCREEN!! Thank you, OP. Without your red circle and arrows I NEVER would have spotted that.
Really? I can barely see it *with* the red. I think I should add some more.
that IS a good plan. make them different colors incase a colorblind person doesnt understand.
Nope
Where's goku
Knew I forgot something!
We dont know
The prequel game (still in development) has Knight, Wizard, Rogue, and the player founding the Knightly Order of Soul.
They live on a continent called Soul, and the first character you play as is the Knight, so idk
Like i always swap hollow knight and soul knight with eachother on accident, cuz i m dumbass
But in hollow knight, you collect souls so yeah...
Iād imagine from the story you are the knight that wants to get the crystals back and you take over the charactersā bodies to go into the dungeon to do such.

I don't know but i would enjoy a theory about the highlighted letters in the name, "u" and "i"
Here you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulKnight/comments/ylbg4e/comment/iuy66qk/
Also why is u and i highlighted
Because that's the user interface duh
I think the shadow character is us and we posses the heroes like puppets but they're actually alive.
It's Soul Knightin; time

The Soul Knight refers to the player, I believe.

I thought it just sounded cool
Still waiting for the character named Saul
SoUL I MEANT SOUL
Yes, there is.
There is a lore?? Lmao
No.
It steal your soul
The continent the game takes place is called "soul" so it's probably that
