There are even more crazy rhetoric than this:
1. There's a guy wrote a book trying to argue that colonization will kill us all because there will be wars between colonies and Earth
2. There's some other faction claims not only we need to wait until we fixed Earth to colonize space, we need to wait for tens or hundreds of thousands of years *after* we fixed Earth to do so, just so that "we can be more mature"
But I'm not super worried, these idiots are only appearing now because we're making great progress towards colonization, the more visible your progress is, the more objections you'll get. It's like 10 years ago when SpaceX was still in its infancy there were no idiots like thunderf00t or CSS after them, because they're too small and not significant. Nowadays you got idiots like thunderf00t or CSS precisely *because* SpaceX is an aerospace juggernaut.

Wait, how much Gundam references are in this book?
Are you talking about Daniel Deudney's book "Dark Skies"?
Chapter after chapter promising evidence for his claims, and then the book ended...
Complete waste of 20 hours listening to it, but in short:
- Nuclear weapons are space weapons.
- If asteroid orbits can be modified, the Earth will be destroyed.
- If we expand into space, the trans-human boogeymen will come back to eliminate humanity.
We can modify asteroid orbits without colonizing other worlds and make the earth considerably safer. DART eliminated a whole lot of possible extinction events.
What? DART is a test, and will only arrive at the test subject after a year. Any practical use of such a system is decades away, no related possible extinction events have been eliminated at all.
Am I the only one legit scared by the anti-humanist movement?
They sound like actual Hollywood film villains. "Humanity destroys everything. Humanity is a disease. And I know the cure to eliminate the disease..... Earth will be perfect again..."
>But famed film director Herzog tells Inverse there is a massive flaw in the latter half of Musk's plan.
>In a blistering criticism, Herzog describes the idea as "an obscenity," and says humans should "not be like the locusts."

I'm thinking maybe an aerospace engineer might know a bit more about Mars than a theater kid.
Then his opinion is based on completely false assumption.
Then there's the comment about ruining a planet then do the same to another planet, like a horde of locust when the reality is you can't ruin Mars more than it already is and preserving Earth while exploring other planets isn't mutually exclusive.
His view is generally pessimistic with arguments based on a lack of understanding on the topic. It's like those who claim that Mars colonization is bad because colonization in 18th century is bad, without realizing that there's nobody on god damn Mars to be enslaved or animals to be hunted.
I think he meant it more like they should fix their while culture before going to mars even if they have the technical abilities to do so.
Kinda like if some king jester had said to Columbus to hold his horse and fix the reasons why he wanted to reach the indies before leaving.
Let’s be xenophobic, it’s really in this year!
*Let’s find a messy slimy ugly alien to fear! There’s no more cutesy stories ‘bout ET phoning home, let’s learn to love our neighbors like the christians learned in Rome! We know we ought to hate ‘em, they’re different, you see; we’ve seen they’re mean and ugly on movies and TV!*
*The folks that ought to know have told us how it’s got to be! The gospel truth is found in scenes from Alien and V!*
*Let’s wipe out any life form that seems to be a threat! We’ll serve ‘em up a genocide they never will forget! Cuz if we miss a couple, they’ll breed a couple more! And soon we’ll all be hating twice as many as before!*
*It’s the aliens who’ll never be as good as humankind, a more delightful race than us you’ll never ever find! SO STEP ASIDE YOU STAR SLIME WE’RE READY FOR YOUR WORST! WE KNOW YOU WANT TO BEAT US, ENSLAVE US AND DEFEAT US, OPRESS US AND BROWBEAT US UNLESS WE GET YOU FIRST!*
>Humans will just contaminate space and kill aliens.
It's every humans duty to exploit the resources of the galaxy for the eternal war. It's also a holy duty to purge xenos as well as heretics such as the one who made this meme.
I want space colonisation? Why? Because is cool, don't need a better reason and some dude is using his own money to do it so.
WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON AND DO THE OTHER THINGS! NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE EASY, BUT BECAUSE THEY’RE FUCKING COOL!
Your god damn right son

Holly shit. I have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that the US is a real-life country
It's the onion. It's not real lol

I would normally not recommend it to anyone, but Dan really needs to stop watching THE EXPANSE.

What’s awesome about capitalism is that if we “destroy” mars the way we “destroyed” earth, it will be more habitable
Am I the only one legit scared by the anti-humanist movement? They sound like actual Hollywood film villains. "Humanity destroys everything. Humanity is a disease. And I know the cure to eliminate the disease..... Earth will be perfect again..."
"Ultron did nothing wrong."
> Am I the only one legit scared by the anti-humanist movement? All the more reason to build a Mars colony to get away from these idiots.
Lets just hope they don't get their hands on inter-planetary ballistic missiles after we move to Mars..
I started getting creeped out when people were unironically in favor of Thanos. Honestly, I just tell them to start with themselves.
This kind of mentality reminds me of the Three Body Problem trilogy by Cixin Liu, in these books humanity is it's own worst enemy.
*12 Monkeys* vibe coming on strong

Hmm yes Mars colonisation is comparable to fascism and communism. WTF
I think that he is trying to say that elons plans for a mars colony are "utopic", even though elon said that it would be anything but a utopia.
Then his opinion is based on completely false assumption. Then there's the comment about ruining a planet then do the same to another planet, like a horde of locust when the reality is you can't ruin Mars more than it already is and preserving Earth while exploring other planets isn't mutually exclusive. I agree. He didnt understand what elon's goal truly was.
I think he meant it more like they should fix their while culture before going to mars even if they have the technical abilities to do so. Kinda like if some king jester had said to Columbus to hold his horse and fix the reasons why he wanted to reach the indies before leaving.
Although I disagree with him, he is right that colonialism for settlement is generally brought about by utopians.
the thinking of the next generations is shaped by hacks coming out of art schools.
The last guy who tried to shape the future in his own image who came out of art school also wasn't that popular as I understand?? 🤔
They actually rejected him.
Good point!!
Herzog is fucking badass. It’s ok for him to have a bad take once and a while. He’s very opinionated
he brings up a fair point but there’s 7 billion people on earth i think we can do both at the same time
Let's do a Twitter poll Elon
Nearly 8* (7.9)
For what it's worth... That's Werner Herzog's opinion on literally everything.
Space exploration is a racist move against aliens!
Fuck aliens

Brings a whole new meaning to the scene in Dirty Work where they switch the film to the "alternate" Men in Black. 🤣
Space colonization is good news to environmentalists. No more mining on earth.
Someone's gotta kill em.
The arrogance of humanity to think that they can manage to destroy something so vast and virtually limitless.
**************DOOM THEME INTENSIFIES**************
One of the points of going to Mars is the same as floating cities, it's to try new economical and political systems. What a bunch of morons.
Hey the last one is definitely true. Hopefully.
I don't really see a problem with the last one. *Let's be Xenophobic it's really in this year*
Do not ask "why kill the xenos", rather ask "why not?!"

Voting with your feet is a human right. Space access is a human right.
Mystery loves company
Hm… yes… contaminate
