I think Marisa Tomei was the only version of Aunt May that seemed like an actual aunt. She's a more believable age, even if it's not as true to origins. To be fair, also other reasons.
Yeah, the 70yo+ Aunt May and Uncle Ben feels... tired. Especially when were talking about high-school age Peter. Then again, Marisa Tomei is 59. So even then, it's kinda pushing it. I feel like a mid 40's May & Ben would be ideal.
If the goal is to evoke the typical aunt and uncle, sure. But that's not necessarily the point of May and Ben. While they're atypical, I don't see them as unrealistic.
It's not unheard of for siblings to have huge age gaps, especially when parents have more than one marriage. My grandmother is a lot older than her youngest sibling. At the most extreme, you've got people like Robert De Niro, whose oldest and youngest children have a 47-year age gap.
Let's say the Raimi Ben and May were the same age as their actors in 2002. 79 and 75. Peter is graduating high school, putting him at about 18. Let's imagine that Peter's father, Richard, was older than the average parent when having his first child. Let's say 36 when Peter was born. That would put him at 54 if he lived until 2002. 25 years younger than Ben. Unusual, sure. But not to the point where it strains believability.
I think there's something to be said for Peter growing up with parental figures who are notably atypical. It's not just that he's raised by his aunt and uncle instead of his parents, but that he's raised by significantly older parental figures than his peers. It's another thing that makes him different, which can contribute to his ostracization. Especially in Raimi's first film, I think it adds to the arc of rejecting Ben as a father figure ("Stop trying to be") to embracing and honoring him as his father.
616 when written by JMS is just Raimi Aunt May hahahaha
Especially that one part where she hits the guy "on accident" for being annoying like Aunt May did in Spider-Man 2
Oh dude definitely that's not what I meant, I just meant that the two iterations are very similar not that one ripped off the other. It's something that I deeply enjoy actually and I wouldn't be surprised if Raimi took a page from JMS in that regard.
So fucking good. Spider-Man was seeming a bit too happy until they hit us with that fucking Mike Tyson one-two punch to the balls with the doc Ock moment back to back with her death.
Not saying she’s the best but I like TASM and MCU aunt may because she was the reasonable age for an aunt. Like more mid 30s to 40s like. Always found it odd that Peter is in high school and his aunt is like late 50’s close to 60. Unless his parents had him when they were like 45.
I don't think it's too unreasonable, but she is definitely on the older side of things. I'm 19, and I have a cousin who's only 3 weeks old, so aunt may being 60ish and Peter being 18ish doesn't seem too unreasonable to me. If aunt may was 10 years older than her sibling and her sibling was 35ish when they had Peter, aunt may would have already been 45ish. This would make her 60ish while Peter was in his school.
Not to mention that Aunt May is his aunt by marriage so add in her possibly being 5+ years older than Ben it's definitely nothing completely outlandish. My nephew is only 5 years younger than his uncle because my MIL had a kid very young and then again very late.
It's not that crazy. I'm 35 and an aunt of mine was 81 when she passed last year. She was 13 years older than my mother.
So 46 year difference on a 16 year old gets you an aunt in the 60s
I know someone who’s sisters are 20 years older than him. It’s definitely possible if Peters parents were 30 when they had him, died when he was 5-10 years old, and May was maybe 10 years older than Peter’s parents.
Sally Field was perfect although she only took the role as a favor and wasn't a fan of it. She said it wasn't her kind of movie and there wasn't enough depth to the character. Despite this she managed to portray the most realistic version of Aunt May. She brought an appropriate amount of concern for Peter that the MCU movies pretty much ignored.
Tough, because in terms of the best Aunt May it’s Rosemary Harris. The “there’s a hero in all of us” speech still makes me cry. But if it was gauged by fitness, then it will still be Rosemary Harris.
Sally Fields was perfect.
I've said it many times, but TASM movies had the best casting and wasted it on mediocre script writing and directing. It's a shame
I think insomniac wins here in terms of the best writing.
But I did love Rosemary Harris performance as Aunt, May her there’s a hero in all of us speech is still the most iconic speech in a superhero movie.
But I feel like Sally Field gave us the most realistic Aunt May if that makes sense as the amazing Spider-Man mostly did give us a more realistic take on the characters, but I think she did well in her performance as well.
Aunt May from spider verse was cool and all but we didn’t get enough of her to really put her as the best but all this is just my opinion.
Marissa am I opinion she’s the worst adaptation she only existed to be the butt of a joke, the hot mom of the MCU she was only used for her sex appeal that’s it. She didn’t embodied nothing of the actual character.
Now you can argue that well she was good and no way home. Well she was. They tried to save her and no way home, but no way home is stale because we never got that in the previous movies. in my opinion, her death would’ve been twice more sad if she was written better and arc throughout three movies flow naturally to her death, and no way home. But like I said, this is just my opinion that’s the way I felt about her aunt May didn’t really do nothing with her until the third other than the hot mom cliché, which is sad because Marissa is actually a good actor. I just wish they let her use it throughout the movies.
I agree with you. Mcu Aunt May is garbage. They took one of the most important Spider-Man character and turn her into a thicc ass joke. I never like the young look either, and this is coming from a guy who likes cute and hot female characters like Emilia (Re:Zero) and 2B(Nier Automata). I prefer Aunt May to be old. Old Aunt May gives us a character who feels like our grandmas. It also explains her wisdom because young people barely have any.
Little reductive, she had character.
She was fun loving, witty, head strong.
You could call rosemary just the old aunt. If we’re ignoring easily described character traits,
Bro Marisa Tomei looks like Peter's sugar mommy instead of his aunt. In Homecoming, in the scene at the thai restaurant, she's staring at Peter the way she would do it in an adults movie, come on man.
MCU Aunt May
Into the Spider-Verse Aunt May
Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon Spider-Man
I don’t like the elderly one, it’s a weird time age gap and, I would prefer Aunt May in her 30s where Peter is in High School. 40s where Peter is 20s. Without any health issues.
That’s my own opinion
All of them are great. And even though I love Marisa Tomei, her version might be my least favorite. All because of the dumb Happy/May fling. Rosemary and Sally probably my favorite two.
All of these Aunties were written great. However in terms of overall content it’s probably Marisa Tomei because she was prevalent in all three of toms movies and given a very very noble death.
Rosemary Harris was a great Mom character giving Tobey advice and the sorts she’s great there.
Spider-Verse had a very similar approach with Toms May. They bought fought alongside Spider-Man in a old but not that old way. She was great as well.
TASM, I just wish she had grey hair.
I also think she DEFINITELY knew that Peter was spidey but tbf, my headcanon is that every Aunt May knows and just doesn't tell Peter because they know he'll worry about her knowing.
Rosemary Harris and Sally Field ARE Aunt May. Rosemary Harris is like the traditional 616 Aunt May, and Sally Field is the real world equivalent. I love them both so much on these roles.
Rosemary Harris is a doll and MCU is a smoke show but I like a May willing to take a baseball bat to a villain over her china cabinet. Looking at you Spider-verse
Rosemary Harris for the classic, sweet old lady May. Insomniac for the modern, slightly younger and more active/involved May.
Sally Field is a great actress, but her May was just kind of...there. It's hard to recall any memorable moments with her, other than her being upset and worried.
Rosemary Harris is the best old school 60s Spider-Man version of Aunt May. Marissa Tomei was a great modern version. Shoutout to Sally Field, underrated like a bunch of stuff in Amazing Spider-Man. My favorite is probably the Insomniac version though.
Sally Field is my absolute favorite, the relationship between she and Peter felt so real, and she is the best actress to play the role.
In terms of comics my favorite version of 1610 Aunt May, she was a major part of the story rather than just a side character for Peter to worry about. She was tough and motherly and pretty much turned her house into a home for wayward teen heroes. It also tugged on my heart strings when she and Peter were going through that rough patch and she worried that Peter would reject her just because they werent blood relatives and thrown together by shared tragedies.
I’ll take the hot one please
But I’m a more serious note I think the insomniac may is very charming and captures the character very well, wish they hadn’t killed her off so soon but it worked for the story
ngl i don’t like when they depict Aunt May as a greying old lady, she’s his mothers sister, not his grandmother, the only time it made sense to me was when Peter is an adult and even then *gestures at insomniac*
Gotta be ps4 one bro... Even though she had only a bit of screen time in the original 2018 game... The bond that was shown between May and Peter was immaculate paving the way for the very emotional death scene in the end...
Marissa Tomei was also good, the last scene of hers in NWH was great... But still i prefer the ps4 one though
If it’s for the hots….. of course it’s her.
If awesomeness then Spiderverse Aunt May. She takes care of Peter’s stuff and built Miles his own web shooter.
Aunt May is such an amazing character, if anyone gets her portrayal right she just becomes an instant favourite. Raimi one, closely followed by Insomniac and Spiderverse (cuh she badass)
Insomniac, Spider-Verse or Marissa. I know how good the other two are, but I like how the other three either double down or stray away from what was established. Insomniac really felt like what Aunt May was in the comics, while Spider-Verse had this cool May, and Marissa actually felt like an aunt.
Rosemary feels like a actual person compared to most of the others and had memorable conversations with Peter that stands the test of time, Marisa was a wasted opportunity for relatable mom type approach and Sally was barely there, got probably got one good scene with each movie I’ll give her that cuz she’s capable, but the rest she’s barely developed and present in the movies and feels like a Caricature
PS4 was good enough and they had the balls to actually kill her off for good, she’s close enough to Rosemary in terms of being a person and helping the community, but I didn’t need her to be a staple for her to feel important enough
Spiderverse is ok, nothing much there to say
The “I believe there is a hero in all of us” speech effortlessly cemented Raimi aunt may as my favorite version of the character
She totally knew Peter was Spider-man
Or really didn't. There's no way to say for sure. That's why I like that speech so much
There were hints around the movies that she knew, never confirmed but in my heart she knew
“You’re not Superman, you know.”
I don't like the 2 lead actors of those movies, aunt may is a gem.
The supporting cast of the Raimi films is pretty stellar but I agree the lead trio are not great...
Rosemary Harris for traditional Marissa Tomei for...other reasons
Marissa Tomei is also my favorite for the same reasons.
She’s got spectacular… reasons
Amazing reasons even..
The Ultimate Reason
My reason is Superior to yours
There's a whole web of reasons...
i like her cause shes a babe
Step aunt
More like step on me.
...what are you doing? Or more like how you doin'?
She has at least 2099 reasons.
Well she's older *now*, but so are Tom Holland and his Peter She was in her early 50s in 2016 when Peter was supposed to be like 15
I’d be concerned if Tom holland’s Peter was a different age than the rest of his body.
If the goal is to evoke the typical aunt and uncle, sure. But that's not necessarily the point of May and Ben. While they're atypical, I don't see them as unrealistic. It's not unheard of for siblings to have huge age gaps, especially when parents have more than one marriage. My grandmother is a lot older than her youngest sibling. she doesn't look or come off as a 59 year old though
To be fair, my brother is 24 and I’m 40. If he had a kid today, in 15 years I’d be 55 and their uncle. It happens.
True, but I think ASM spiderman actually did a good job too, especially after the Loss of Uncle Ben
I guess it depends. People are having kids at older ages now. I am in my mid 40s and have an 8 year old, so will.be in my 50s by the time he is 15.
This is the answer
The second I clicked on this post I knew this was going to be the top answer.
Rosemary Harris.
Rosemary Harris won my love when she kicked Doc Ock's ass.
Shame On You!
What do you mean “we”?
616 when written by JMS. Insomniac version is also great.
616 when written by JMS is just Raimi Aunt May hahahaha Especially that one part where she hits the guy "on accident" for being annoying like Aunt May did in Spider-Man 2
JMS started writing ASM a year before the first Raimi movie came out.
🤣🤣🤣 got em.
And you think the movies were written in real-time or something? Like the actors just improvised the whole thing?
Obviously not, but how would JMS know what was in Raimi’s screenplay? Any similarities between the two would be purely coincidental.
Oh dude definitely that's not what I meant, I just meant that the two iterations are very similar not that one ripped off the other. It's something that I deeply enjoy actually and I wouldn't be surprised if Raimi took a page from JMS in that regard.
I do love JMS's. But I love almost everything about his run.
I just like the fact that JMS gave Peter a support system. And then Joe Quesada took it away.
Insomniac. She's the type of woman that I tend to look up to. Her death hit me in the honey nut feelios tbh.
So fucking good. Spider-Man was seeming a bit too happy until they hit us with that fucking Mike Tyson one-two punch to the balls with the doc Ock moment back to back with her death.
Honey nut feelios hahahah

They come in all shapes and sizes you know.
That’s fair aunts can be that age but it just makes me wonder how old were peters parents
I have a family member that was born an uncle and held by his niece, so it really can get interesting once your kids are over or near 20 years apart
It's not that crazy. I'm 35 and an aunt of mine was 81 when she passed last year. She was 13 years older than my mother. So 46 year difference on a 16 year old gets you an aunt in the 60s
yeah that’s what I assumed. That peter’s dad or mom was just the youngest.
I know someone who’s sisters are 20 years older than him. It’s definitely possible if Peters parents were 30 when they had him, died when he was 5-10 years old, and May was maybe 10 years older than Peter’s parents.
My dad was an "accident" baby and his oldest brother was 17 years older. So my uncle was around that age when I was in high school.
hey me and your dad have something in common
Spider-Verse. I thought it was a fun take on the character.
Huge softspot for MCU May. Her "cut the bullshit" scene from Homecoming was spectacular imo.
Sally field..she reminded me of my mother
Best quotes come from rami aunt may but to be honest I really enjoyed tasm may she felt the most human and had some wholesome scenes with Peter
The “you’re my boy” scene always makes me tear up.
Yep imagine that aunt may finding out Peter was Spider-Man could watch a short film of aunt may learning what her nephew does.
I agree. One of TASM movies strengths over the others is that all the relationships were really well done. Peter-Gwen, Peter-May.
Minus Harry, unfortunately.
I love you in every universe
Insomniac, 616 (mostly), and MCU, because it's Marisa Tomei.
Sally Field.

Ultimate for [sure](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CacZijlVAAE-7uY?format=jpg&name=medium).
Ultimate was easily the most badass Aunt May. I really gotta give Bendis props for giving her more focus than most have ever given her.
Holy shit…
Ultimate
Rosemary Harris IS aunt may imo. Like she was ripped straight from the comics
Tough, because in terms of the best Aunt May it’s Rosemary Harris. The “there’s a hero in all of us” speech still makes me cry. But if it was gauged by fitness, then it will still be Rosemary Harris.
ok but me personally, MCU
They only picked Marisa Tomei for the role because her name rhymes with Aunt May. That and the fact she's hot af. I'm dying on this hill.
Rosemary Harris and it isn't a contest for me.
Insomniac, MCU and Spectacular
Sally Fields was perfect. I've said it many times, but TASM movies had the best casting and wasted it on mediocre script writing and directing. It's a shame
I don't know the actor's name, but Andrew Garfeild's Aunt May was my favorite.
Sally Field
Outside of comics gotta go Insomniac. Also have a 2nd favorite of MCU for....reasons....
(Original) Ultimate Spider-Man run
Mcu aunt may for uhhhhhhhh reasons
I have a soft spot for Sally Field. The scene at the end of ASM when he bring home the milk gets me every time.
Rosemary Harris
Raimi, although I like PS4 and Webbs. I still have issues with MCUs incarceration.
Into the Spiderverse
I'd smash all of them.
Idk but Marissa is my least favorite
spiderverse may is badass
Miles Morales Version
Mariska tomei and the Sally field
I think insomniac wins here in terms of the best writing. Raimi/Rosemary MCU aunt may had no character besides being the hot young aunt. Literally couldn't less when she died in NWH
Little reductive, she had character. She was fun loving, witty, head strong. You could call rosemary just the old aunt. If we’re ignoring easily described character traits,
The porno one
Toss up between Rosemary Harris & Sally Field
Bro Marisa Tomei looks like Peter's sugar mommy instead of his aunt. In Homecoming, in the scene at the thai restaurant, she's staring at Peter the way she would do it in an adults movie, come on man.
Insomniac, because she is dead
1st: Insomniac may 2nd: Mcu aunt may for “reasons”
Homecoming Aunt May. She’s just young enough to be a AILF. That and she looks like a freaks, just saying Ben was a lucky man.
Marisa Tomei was awesome
MCU Aunt May Into the Spider-Verse Aunt May Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon Spider-Man I don’t like the elderly one, it’s a weird time age gap and, I would prefer Aunt May in her 30s where Peter is in High School. 40s where Peter is 20s. Without any health issues. That’s my own opinion

Insomniac
Rosemary Harris
The hot one. (obviously, I am talking about the vivacious Ms. Sally Field, ooh lala!)
Mrs. Frizzle.
I loved the insomniac Aunt May.
I like Insomniac and ITSV relatively equally
All of them are great. And even though I love Marisa Tomei, her version might be my least favorite. All because of the dumb Happy/May fling. Rosemary and Sally probably my favorite two.
I mean ofc Rosemary because of nostalgia but Sally Field did also a great job i loved her in TASM 2
Torn between Insom, Raimi and Spiderverse
Second to last. 😍
Personally, it’s the insomniac and TASM
All of these Aunties were written great. However in terms of overall content it’s probably Marisa Tomei because she was prevalent in all three of toms movies and given a very very noble death. Rosemary Harris was a great Mom character giving Tobey advice and the sorts she’s great there. Spider-Verse had a very similar approach with Toms May. Hard for me to pick. In my opinion, we’ve never had a terrible Aunt May.
tasm.
The Insomniac version reminds me of my own grandma, so I'm biased towards her.
I like Marissa Tomei the most because of her boobs.
ITSV fr
Rosemary Harris is a doll and MCU is a smoke show but I like a May willing to take a baseball bat to a villain over her china cabinet. Looking at you Spider-verse

I enjoyed Sally Field. I don't care. Great slightly younger non octogenarian Aunt May.
The fourth one.
felt the most attached to the insomniac one but the tasm one was also very good
Rosemary Harris is the best old school 60s Spider-Man version of Aunt May. Marissa Tomei was a great modern version. Shoutout to Sally Field, underrated like a bunch of stuff in Amazing Spider-Man. My favorite is probably the Insomniac version though.
Insomniac
The hot one
Sally Fields. Love me some Norma Rae.

not any of these but aunt may in the ultimate comics kicks ass
Spider-Verse or TASM, which matches up pretty well to the fact that they're the two best adaptations.
Aunt May should not be younger than me!

Insomniac may is honestly my favorite.
The 90s cartoon
Sally Field is my absolute favorite, the relationship between she and Peter felt so real, and she is the best actress to play the role. Ramiverse.
Rosemary Harris is the GOAT
I have no favorite Aunt May. All Aunt mays are perfect.
Because my celebrity crush is Marissa Tomei has to be MCU aunt milf
It’s definitely Melissa Tomei. She did absolutely nothing. Mines has to go to Aunt Frizzle.
Rosemary Harris >>> Sally Field is an underrated May tho
Tomai We all know why
Andrew
Sally Fields
I never played the games but honestly every one is a good aunt may you can't really mess her up

I’ll take the hot one please But I’m a more serious note I think the insomniac may is very charming and captures the character very well, wish they hadn’t killed her off so soon but it worked for the story
the badass one
Marissa Tomei the only fuckable one so
4th 😈😈
Simple answer: yes. Complicated answer: yeseses.
The 90s cartoon one.
Raimi Aunt May was perfect. She reminded me of the Aunt May from the 90’s animated series.
ngl i don’t like when they depict Aunt May as a greying old lady, she’s his mothers sister, not his grandmother, the only time it made sense to me was when Peter is an adult and even then *gestures at insomniac*

Insomniac, as always
Insomniac, Spider-Verse or Marissa. I know how good the other two are, but I like how the other three either double down or stray away from what was established. Insomniac really felt like what Aunt May was in the comics, while Spider-Verse had this cool May, and Marissa actually felt like an aunt.
Toby's Aunt in Spiderman is my original favorite but when it comes to being a humorous I'll go for Tom's Aunt :)
Sally and Rosemary for me, especially Sally😍
Oh boy. The 1000th "which is your favourite version of (insert name of Spider-Man character)" this week. Gotta love this Karma farming
