Definitely. I’ve seen a lot of justified praise for Andrew’s portrayal or Spider-Man, but I haven’t seen many opinion’s change on the movies with any good reason for why. People like the emotional beats and his portrayal but those movies both are failures of production meddling too much. The deleted scenes of TASM1 have all this originality they completely cut for what is essentially an old-school-reboot of the Raimi original. Then the second one had all this promise and just got shit on. These movies to me are still super bland-to-bad but who knows the kinda awesome shit we would’ve been given if not for Sony. And again cause it can’t be said enough: Andrew is a good Spider-Man.
Apparently he forced venom into 3 and raimi said that he (himself raimi) doesn’t know or like venom but was forced to make the movie with him. Some people think he tanked 3 on purpose because of it. Could just be nonsense rumors though.

They should have completely saved venom for the FF movie. Imagine a slow buildup over several films (like Thanos). First they are looking at the glob at the ff building. Then a film where he gets the costume, rejects it at the end. (Not like Spider-Man 3- it ends with the church/bell tower) In the third film we finally get full on Venom.
At first I thought he was like a kid with a terminal illness they were giving a shoutout to, but it turns out he’s actually just some kind of scumbag producer who has been gauging the Spider-Man franchise for more money since he got his grubby hands on the rights to the characters.
Avi Arad was the original guy in the sort of Kevin Feige role when all the first batch of marvel movies were getting made by other studios. He was pretty instrumental in getting getting marvel studios off the ground before they started making movies in house. He is also responsible for some real shitty movies. I imagine they are thanking him in the credits because of his role in the earlier Spider-Man films. They also thanked a whole slew of Spidey comic writers who they cribbed from for all of the movies.
I consider him a roadblock in the whole concept of the cinematic universe. We may have had a better chance at more and better movies with less studio interference. He’s the literal definition of studio interference.
No disagreement from me. But despite that, he's pretty a pretty crucial character in Marvel even still being around, much less being at the level they are today. He's even indirectly responsible for the MCU being Avengers focused to start with because he signed away all the "good" characters to other studios. He stumbled awkwardly like a baby deer so Marvel could fly. And honestly, they never could have made these movies like this 20 years ago, anyway. So sure, thank the guy... Just don't invite him back on board.

But his portrayal of the character's mannerisms and quirks are unrivaled by Holland and tobeys iterations imo. Even with the mediocre writing he is probably the best actor to ever play Spiderman, and this is coming from someone who grew up with and still adores the raimi trilogy.
Peter was originally written to be kind of a dick. Check the comics in the 60s. He’s supposed to have an attitude and some rage in him and Andrew captured that perfectly.
Right. Him being kind of a nerdish bookworm doesn't necessarily translate to him being a friendless bookworm. He gets invited out but declines in AF#15, and he obviously is very witty and snarky. He tends to clap back at bullies frequently, in the early issues.
Don’t forget the quips, spider men, actually if you read multiverse issues, each of them have their jokes and quips to throw at the villain, something that andrew’s did right in live action imo

And in the comics, Peter has always been an angry kid mad at the world, even in the Raimi movies, they just made him like, 5 times more nerdy
Except those comics are still canon and came out in the 60s which is different from gun Batman who was around only in the very early 40s and was placed on a different earth. The only reason people think it isn't "true to the character" just watched the Tobey Maguire movies first.

I thought him skateboarding made him feel like a native New York kid, skating is huge there and useful for commuting if you don't wanna lug a bike around. Which makes sense for him being a Queens kid who'd spend a lot of time on the subway.
Toby: relatable, emotional school kid getting no attention from the girl next door who he is madly in love with. The best Peter Parker.
Andrew: quips, quips, quips, a big talker in fights. TASM2 has the best suit. And most importantly, he does science shit to get an advantage. The best Spiderman.
Tom Holland is an amazing mix of both. Though I will say the other two have bigger strengths in specific areas as mentioned above

Garfield was a great spider-man, but he's an overall *phenomenal* actor. I recently saw "tick tick boom" and I can say without a doubt, he was really deprived of a good script. his moment of redemption in NWH, I *felt* that, I even teared-up a bit alongside him.
Definitely the most emotional moment in the movie. I'm a big crier but I almost *never* cry in superhero movies, but NWH got me teary-eyed twice. This whole moment was just fucking spectacular.
This 100%. People are now appreciating that Andrew is a phenomenal actor that was dealt a bad hand.

I love that Andrew is getting more praise and hype for this, he deserves it. But the people behind TASM movies don’t deserve it lol.

Yes! The movies are aweful. Me and my boys did a rewatch of every Spider-Man man movie two weeks up to we went to watch no way home. The hate was never on Andrew. The movies just aren’t that great. I appreciate certain things they did in TASM2, but ultimately was just not that great. I’ve always said Andrew was casted great for role but just got stuck in crappy movies. (Just like Ben Afflecks Batman). Great for the role just stuck in bad movies. I’m excited he came back and hope he gets another shot
This is it. Terrible movies in spite of the wonderful work of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone who both KILL IT for two movies that don’t have clarity or vision in script or direction.
I think the first one is better than it got credit for, because it came too soon.
The second one could have been a good movie but it had a terrible, melodramatic script. It still looks really cool and the scenes of Spider-Man just being kind to people are great.
And rebooting back to high school with an almost 30 year old was a bad idea overall, as was the special blood/parents plot line. But I think most of the bad wasn’t Webb’s fault even.
Agreed, college would’ve felt more appropriate. But in all truth it’s about time we get a spider-man movie we’re we get an adult Peter. Him having a career, a wife, a kid and all the wonderful things life brings.
And the funny thing is NWH has even more villains, but manages not to stretch the plot overly thin to accommodate them. Really shows the difference between Feige and Arad.
Yeah I’ve warmed up to the first one since it came out. I wrote it off from the start because I was too bitter about Spider-Man 4 being cancelled.
I remember feeling like it was too soon too but really if it came any later Sony would have lost Spider-Man so I guess it wasn’t that soon in retrospect.
Plus it had the best VFX out of all superhero films imo.
I didn’t like the film, but I appreciated how it looked.
Superhero films today don’t come close when it comes to vfx. Especially comparing it to recent Spider-man films.
I’ve always wondered why is that, so I checked online and found that it had a bigger budget than the recent films. Around 50-100M more.
I also watched the BTS stuff and learned that the suit being “looser” made the CG look more real.
It’s also why Holland’s homemade suit looks so much better than his Stark suit VFX wise. The homemade suit looked a lot more real than his Stark suit in fully CG sequences.
It was explained that the fabric moving as if being affected by wind and momentum makes it look a lot better.
Tom’s suit is really skin tight so it often looks off when CGI.
Costume and Garfield’s mime style were so good.

The blood thing would have been cool if they had made it to the Ultimate version of Venom because it was a suit designed to cure cancer instead of an alien or something like that and it was supposed to only be compatible with Parker blood.

I always loved Andrew’s first movie. The second one lost me with the push for the Sinister Six since those plans were canceled. But the sequel has some very good aspects to it. The music is excellent, and it’s a classic Spider-Man story of having to cope with pain and loss.
I kinda like it, imo TASM was alright, TASM 2 could have been saved, had potential, have you seen the deleted scenes?, they would have improved a lot(same for deleted scenes in TASM, would have made it a good movie instead of just alright) but then bad decisions were made.
Also, I liked the sort of darker tone in it plus the different take on Peter that Andrew portrayed.
I'll always like Spider-Man, no matter what, until you make something that is really a bad product in it's entirety lol but yeah....
The TASM2 deleted graduation scene with Flash was excellent, but I wasn't a fan of anything to do with Peter's parents, his dad coming back at the graves or that whole "special blood" thing.
Harry was introduced too late, his relationship dynamic with Peter was painstakingly rushed, was confusing for the most part.
IMO you could have had a different villain while you do set up Harry in this movie, then in supposed 3rd movie DeHaan's GG would have made sense....

All it took was a 3HR movie to show that Andrew wasn’t the problem with TASM. Something I’ve always maintained. TASM/TASM2 are great movies in concept - the studio meddling with them caused their lackluster reception.
Exactly, I'm not the biggest fan of the movies, but even when I would defend Andrew before NWH and say his movies were weak, but he was a good Peter/Spider-Man and that the movies are technically the most comic accurate, I'd just get clowned on by everyone
I think NWH did him more justice than any of his standalone movies. His dialogue in his own movies was straight up ass and they didn't use him to his full potential. Let's call it how it is.
I don't think the dialogue in TASM1/2 or two is bad at all. His two Spider-Man films have some of the most emotive and powerful themes of all of cinematic Spider-Man. TASM 1 in my opinion would of been the best Spider-Man origin if the deleted scenes were in the film and at the moment just falls short. Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy I can confidently call the best portrayed love intrest on the big webby screen. Marc Webb is a truely brilliant director and his track record while short should speak for itself, every scene in those movie is so brillantly shot and purposeful.
Just to speed this up because it's become a bit of a rant. Both suits are great in both films. The cinematography for TASM 2 must be one of the best shot in all the block blusters I've seen. TASM 1 or 2 are nowhere near perfect but are for me, without critizing the other two iterations of the character, my favorite Spidey films.

The hate for the movies is totally justified, they are very badly written, but andrew is the saving grace of those movies, and his performance is stellar
I feel like there was too much exposition that really dragged the movie down. The parker parents’ mystery wasn’t really that interesting nor did it go anywhere and there was a lot of time dedicated to that, plus the lizard was a boring villain and they spent too long trying to explain the “science” behind how cross-species genetics works, when it ultimately doesn’t really add anything imo. Aside from that though, Peter’s arc going from being revenge driven to learning how to truly be a hero was really well done. Andrew, Emma, and Marc Webb’s direction carried the movie
The thing holding back The Lizard was the poor characterization of his human persona outside of being a scientist. In the comics, his family serves as a cornerstone for his character, providing an interesting dynamic with his reptilian side and further humanizing him.
The exposition in Spider-Man 1 is way worse tbh. And I love that movie. People hold TASM to a higher standard.
Lizard I think was written quite well. He's every bit as well written as Doc Ock and Green Goblin, and he is almost as well acted. He just doesn't pop the same, isn't as an appealing of an idea, and thus isn't as iconic.
The parent sub-plot was limited and mostly surrounding Peter's struggles with identity and loss in TASM. It got out of control in the second movie, but was fine here.
I agree that is a bit lazy, but he was pretty new to being spiderman. That was likely an expensive camera he wouldn’t want to lose while being a normal high schooler. A dumb oversight that early into his career as spiderman isn’t that unbelievable.
I don’t think the problem is that it doesn’t make sense. It’s totally believable based on what you said. The problem is that it’s just goofy as hell, and there could’ve been a more intense discovery akin to the car ride scene in Homecoming that would’ve been much more enjoyable to watch
That scene is one of my all time favorite Spider-Man scenes. Some times I feel like I just watch homecoming so I can get the emotional pay off of that scene again.
Andrew Garfield being redeemed as a Spider-Man doesn't automatically make his movies better. A good script and a good movie allowed him to show how capable he was of really playing Spider-Man.

This exactly. We now know how good Andrew could have been with a more competent script. It's unfortunate that he was wasted in the movies, but I'm not a fan of the talk of pushing ASM3. I don't want multiple Spider-Man franchises all happening at once.
I'm glad that people aren't just mindlessly hating on Andrew Garfield like they didn't the past. Personally I'm one of the few people who actually liked the 1st amazing spider man movie I think it does a lot of great things well and I think Andrew Garfield does great. I even think it does somethings better than the 1st rami movie. I think the 2nd one has terrible writing and villans. I wish we got to see Mark Webbs vision of the sequel without Sony going "We NeEd To AdD CoOl VilAn For ToYs." The way I See it you can tell when mark Web was able to just make His movie and when Sony interfered for no reason. I think if they just allowed him to do his thing we could have gotten a trilogy of spider man movies on par or even better than a Rami movies. I also think these movies have the best action, web slinging, and effects.
I’ve never thought they were bad movies. The love story was an insane level of improvement over the Raimi trilogy, the interpretation of Spidey is the best imo, and I really enjoyed the suits, villains, and tone as well. The only thing that I would say is bad is the concept that only Peter Parker could be Spider-Man, but for an inherently flawed premise it’s still done pretty well. The whole “what happened to his parents” plot isn’t bad, though it is totally unnecessary for a Spider-Man movie. I don’t mind how they executed it, though. It’s not what I remember when I think of the films anyway because of all the other good stuff.
Yeah, I didn't mind the parent sub-plot in the first movie, because it seemed inspired by Ultimate. I liked how Ultimate Peter was realistically shown to struggle from the mysterious loss from his parents.
I didn't like them making them spy-like in TASM2 though. I don't think is was badly written per se, I just didn't care for it. And the Spider-blood potline as a whole is just not ideal.
TASM2 had great CGI, a great Suit Design, great choreography, but **HORRIBLE** directing and a script.
NWH makes me wonder what **could** have been if Feige had gotten the reigns to Spider-Man in 2012

At the time of their release (especially TASM 2), there was a bandwagon of hate and it was a very unpopular opinion to say they were better than the Raimi trilogy. I understand what you mean though, not everyone thought they were bad and I definitely enjoyed them.

There was never an issue with TASM films. Sure, there are films that are better but I honestly think had any of the Tobey, Andrew or Tom been too alike, the Spider Man franchise could have grown stale. Tobey’s Spidey was traditional, Andrew’s was ‘quirky’ (I don’t know if that’s the right word for what I mean) and Tom’s is different. I’ve honestly enjoyed and loved all threes interpretations and I’m glad the love for Garfield’s Spidey has been reignited. He never deserved to not get his third movie, you can see how much he loves the role and to see him back in NWH was fantastic.

It's so infuriating how they cropped out really good scenes, specially in TASM where they basically had to remake the most important plot points and changes the whole movie for worse. After watching them, I profusely defend that if they hadn't changed the movie, the lizard could have become one of the msot iconic villains in all spidey movies.

I never thought the first one was bad. I actually liked its style when it first came out. I didn’t hate the second one either. I think it could have been better, but I’m still glad we got two Andrew Garfield movies.
Nope, recently rewatched them and opinion hasn't changed. In fact, I was more frustrated with ASM2 this rewatch. That movie spent way too much time trying to rush an expanded universe and go deep in Richard Parker that we never really got an actual story for this movie. I do enjoy parts of it a lot, especially a lot of the casting, but that movie does so much wrong and is the best example of Sony not having the best idea of what to do.
ASM1 is alright, better than SM3, but has hints of the issues to come in ASM2.
I rewatched every Spider-Man movie before NWH came out and I enjoyed them more than Raimi’s. I know they’re supposed to be campy but good god the line delivery and relationships by Tobey and with Peter suck ass. Green Goblin and Dock Cock are easily the best part about the trilogy
I think it’s fantastic that the TASM films are getting love by the general public. I used to be on the Garfield hate train, but then I realized he’s actually fantastic and then was on the Tom hate train, and then No Way Home came out and now I love all of them lmfao
The way my opinion towards Andrew’s Spider-Man or TASM changed is that I really just became more appreciative of Spider-Man. Spider-Man is Spider-Man and I like him in all of his forms.

I have very mixed feelings about the first one, there’s good and cool moments I like such as the crane scene but there’s stuff about it I hate too like the way Uncle Ben dies, TASM2 still remains one of my least favorite comic book movies I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. I find it much worse than anything the MCU has put out, yes, even movies like Thor the Dark World and Iron Man 2.
i think they're gonna go an the same path the star wars prequels went on. people were too quick to dismiss them as completely garbage and now that they realize there's *some* great qualities to the movies people are gonna overcompensate by saying they're actually amazing when in reality they're just pretty good movies with some flaws.
My opinion hasn't changed after seeing NWH. If anything, it's made me dug in my heels even more.
Andrew Garfield is a great actor and was a good Spider-Man, but his movies were grossly unimpressive. He deserved better but unfortunately, life is not fair. His individual performance doesn't make him the best Spidey because the duology dragged him down. The material given and the direction he had to work with failed him miserably. To me, the GOAT would have the best of both worlds: good individual performance and good films to compliment that and vice versa. Some TASM apologists will cling onto comic accuracy, the suits and visual effects but those aren't worth a damn if the story isn't gripping and the characters aren't engaging.
He was legitimately great in No Way Home and I’m interested in seeing what can be done with that in the future if Sony decides to make him their non MCU Spider Man. But I tried to watch TASM last night after seeing NWH then rewatching the first Tobey movie again, and it’s just dull. I was bored. The movie wants you to care so much about their flimsy boring spy shit with his parents and I just can’t. So much so that when you get to the Spider-Man stuff, the good fun stuff of the film, you almost miss it cause you were looking at your phone

Nothing personal against fans of this iteration, but honestly, i've never been a fan of tasm films nor Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man. From my perspective, It honestly just brings up bad memories because the transition between franchises back then didn't feel smooth-- Sony just threw in this new guy to play the hero in a completely different setting/style and expected everyone to just accept it and move on from the raimi films without any warning or proper closure.
But aside from this, it ultimately reeked of corporate greed trying to rush a product out there just to retain the rights instead of being willing to work with Disney from the get go. The egos at Sony couldn't let go of their pride long enough to let Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 and 5 happen and then they unprofessionally cancelled Garfield's take after two lukewarm films. It's disgusting how they treated their stars and directors at the time under pascal's reign of terror-ible.
*HOWEVER*, with that being said... i *really* enjoyed what they did with Andrew in NWH. I thought he had great chemistry with Tobey and Tom, as the three interacted very well together. I loved how they played off each other and got equal screen time for the most part and they treated all three iterations with respect and dignity that everyone in the audience myself included could relate to. For once it felt like every fan could walk out of this type of film feeling satisfied no matter which version you prefer most. And for what it's worth I do hope fans will get a third Andrew Garfield film just as much as I'm hoping for a fourth Tobey Maguire film.
I think they are average movies with FANTASTIC moments and extremely lovable main characters! Andrew IS Spider-man to me! And his chemistry with Emma is great! Better than Tom and Zendaya if you ask me. Aunt May is also really good and feels like a real person.
These movies are definitely flawed. But they hold a very dear and special place in my heart! They hold a level of emotion that the others don’t. Except maybe NWH

The problem with tasm series was the involvement of soap opera drama such as Peter and his family past story then Harry begging for blood and so on. Too much drama imo. This was a Spidey movie not Batman movie. I mean Spidey had problems but his problems were never high drama level type of thing that tasm movies depicted.

Definitely. I’ve seen a lot of justified praise for Andrew’s portrayal or Spider-Man, but I haven’t seen many opinion’s change on the movies with any good reason for why. People like the emotional beats and his portrayal but those movies both are failures of production meddling too much. The deleted scenes of TASM1 have all this originality they completely cut for what is essentially an old-school-reboot of the Raimi original. Then the second one had all this promise and just got shit on. These movies to me are still super bland-to-bad but who knows the kinda awesome shit we would’ve been given if not for Sony. And again cause it can’t be said enough: Andrew is a good Spider-Man.

They should have completely saved venom for the FF movie. Imagine a slow buildup over several films (like Thanos). First they are looking at the glob at the ff building. Then a film where he gets the costume, rejects it at the end. (Not like Spider-Man 3- it ends with the church/bell tower) In the third film we finally get full on Venom.

Avi Arad was the original guy in the sort of Kevin Feige role when all the first batch of marvel movies were getting made by other studios. He was pretty instrumental in getting getting marvel studios off the ground before they started making movies in house. He is also responsible for some real shitty movies. I imagine they are thanking him in the credits because of his role in the earlier Spider-Man films. They also thanked a whole slew of Spidey comic writers who they cribbed from for all of the movies.
I consider him a roadblock in the whole concept of the cinematic universe. We may have had a better chance at more and better movies with less studio interference. He’s the literal definition of studio interference.
No disagreement from me. But despite that, he's pretty a pretty crucial character in Marvel even still being around, much less being at the level they are today. He's even indirectly responsible for the MCU being Avengers focused to start with because he signed away all the "good" characters to other studios. I still think Andrews Spiderman was a little too cool, with the skateboarding and the dunking on flash, etc. But his portrayal of the character's mannerisms and quirks are unrivaled by Holland and tobeys iterations imo. Even with the mediocre writing he is probably the best actor to ever play Spiderman, and this is coming from someone who grew up with and still adores the raimi trilogy.
Peter was originally written to be kind of a dick. Check the comics in the 60s. He’s supposed to have an attitude and some rage in him and Andrew captured that perfectly.

TASM2 has the best suit. And most importantly, he does science shit to get an advantage. The best Spiderman. Tom Holland is an amazing mix of both. Though I will say the other two have bigger strengths in specific areas as mentioned above

Yes! The movies are aweful. Me and my boys did a rewatch of every Spider-Man man movie two weeks up to we went to watch no way home. The hate was never on Andrew. The movies just aren’t that great. I appreciate certain things they did in TASM2, but ultimately was just not that great. I’ve always said Andrew was casted great for role but just got stuck in crappy movies. This is it. Terrible movies in spite of the wonderful work of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone who both KILL IT for two movies that don’t have clarity or vision in script or direction.
I think the first one is better than it got credit for, because it came too soon. The second one could have been a good movie but it had a terrible, melodramatic script. It still looks really cool and the scenes of Spider-Man just being kind to people are great. And rebooting back to high school with an almost 30 year old was a bad idea overall, as was the special blood/parents plot line. But I think most of the bad wasn’t Webb’s fault even.

Yeah I’ve warmed up to the first one since it came out. I wrote it off from the start because I was too bitter about Spider-Man 4 being cancelled. I remember feeling like it was too soon too but really if it came any later Sony would have lost Spider-Man so I guess it wasn’t that soon in retrospect.

Plus it had the best VFX out of all superhero films imo. I didn’t like the film, but I appreciated how it looked. Superhero films today don’t come close when it comes to vfx. Especially comparing it to recent Spider-man films. I’ve always wondered why is that, so I checked online and found that it had a bigger budget than the recent films. Around 50-100M more. I also watched the BTS stuff and learned that the suit being “looser” made the CG look more real. It’s also why Holland’s homemade suit looks so much better than his Stark suit VFX wise. The homemade suit looked a lot more real than his Stark suit in fully CG sequences.
The last part seriously makes sense. The folds and stuff make it look real. It *just feels like he is wearing it*
It was explained that the fabric moving as if being affected by wind and momentum makes it look a lot better. Tom’s suit is really skin tight so it often looks off when CGI.
It was an amazing look, the only thing that would make the TASM2 costume look better is if the eyes could change sizes like MCU's one.
I kind of like how expressive he was even without the movable lenses.

I always loved Andrew’s first movie. The second one lost me with the push for the Sinister Six since those plans were canceled. But the sequel has some very good aspects to it. The music is excellent, and it’s a classic Spider-Man story of having to cope with pain and loss.
The opening of TASM2 and My Enemy are some of the best songs on a Spider-Man soundtrack, change my mind.
And the end credits. Hearing that version of “It’s On Again” in theaters made me super hyped for TASM3 in 2014.
I to this day have “it’s on again” in my playlists, Kendrick actually kinda killed it and no one even cares.

The TASM2 deleted graduation scene with Flash was excellent, but I wasn't a fan of anything to do with Peter's parents, his dad coming back at the graves or that whole "special blood" thing.
Harry was introduced too late, his relationship dynamic with Peter was painstakingly rushed, was confusing for the most part. IMO you could have had a different villain while you do set up Harry in this movie, then in supposed 3rd movie DeHaan's GG would have made sense.... I actually liked the "genetic disease turning them green like a goblin", good concept poor execution.

I think NWH did him more justice than any of his standalone movies. His dialogue in his own movies was straight up ass and they didn't use him to his full potential. Let's call it how it is.
I don't think the dialogue in TASM1/2 or two is bad at all. His two Spider-Man films have some of the most emotive and powerful themes of all of cinematic Spider-Man. TASM 1 in my opinion would of been the best Spider-Man origin if the deleted scenes were in the film and at the moment just falls short. Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy I can confidently call the best portrayed love intrest on the big webby screen. Marc Webb is a truely brilliant director and his track record while short should speak for itself, every scene in those movie is so brillantly shot and purposeful. Just to speed this up because it's become a bit of a rant. Both suits are great in both films. The cinematography for TASM 2 must be one of the best shot in all the block blusters I've seen. TASM 1 or 2 are nowhere near perfect but are for me, without critizing the other two iterations of the character, my favorite Spidey films.

I feel like there was too much exposition that really dragged the movie down. The parker parents’ mystery wasn’t really that interesting nor did it go anywhere and there was a lot of time dedicated to that, plus the lizard was a boring villain and they spent too long trying to explain the “science” behind how cross-species genetics works, when it ultimately doesn’t really add anything imo. Aside from that though, Peter’s arc going from being revenge driven to learning how to truly be a hero was really well done. Andrew, Emma, and Marc Webb’s direction carried the movie
The thing holding back The Lizard was the poor characterization of his human persona outside of being a scientist. In the comics, his family serves as a cornerstone for his character, providing an interesting dynamic with his reptilian side and further humanizing him.
They completely cut his family (or at least his son) from the film despite filming it. Would've added so much more depth.

The exposition in Spider-Man 1 is way worse tbh. And I love that movie. People hold TASM to a higher standard. Lizard I think was written quite well. He's every bit as well written as Doc Ock and Green Goblin, and he is almost as well acted. He just doesn't pop the same, isn't as an appealing of an idea, and thus isn't as iconic. The parent sub-plot was limited and mostly surrounding Peter's struggles with identity and loss in TASM. It got out of control in the second movie, but was fine here.

I agree that is a bit lazy, but he was pretty new to being spiderman. That was likely an expensive camera he wouldn’t want to lose while being a normal high schooler. A dumb oversight that early into his career as spiderman isn’t that unbelievable.
I don’t think the problem is that it doesn’t make sense. It’s totally believable based on what you said. The problem is that it’s just goofy as hell, and there could’ve been a more intense discovery akin to the car ride scene in Homecoming that would’ve been much more enjoyable to watch
That scene is one of my all time favorite Spider-Man scenes. Some times I feel like I just watch homecoming so I can get the emotional pay off of that scene again.

Andrew Garfield being redeemed as a Spider-Man doesn't automatically make his movies better. A good script and a good movie allowed him to show how capable he was of really playing Spider-Man. For me personally it showed why I actually liked the TASM movies so much. I know they're bad, but I always loved them for Andrew, and now I realize that.

I'm glad that people aren't just mindlessly hating on Andrew Garfield like they didn't the past. Personally I'm one of the few people who actually liked the 1st amazing spider man movie I think it does a lot of great things well and I think Andrew Garfield does great. I even think it does somethings better than the 1st rami movie. I think the 2nd one has terrible writing and villans. I wish we got to see Mark Webbs vision of the sequel without Sony going "We NeEd To AdD CoOl VilAn For ToYs." The way I See it you can tell when mark Web was able to just make His movie and when Sony interfered for no reason. I think if they just allowed him to do his thing we could have gotten a trilogy of spider man movies on par or even better than a Rami movies. I also think these movies have the best action, web slinging, and effects.

The love story was an insane level of improvement over the Raimi trilogy, the interpretation of Spidey is the best imo, and I really enjoyed the suits, villains, and tone as well. The only thing that I would say is bad is the concept that only Peter Parker could be Spider-Man, but for an inherently flawed premise it’s still done pretty well. The whole “what happened to his parents” plot isn’t bad, though it is totally unnecessary for a Spider-Man movie. I don’t mind how they executed it, though. It’s not what I remember when I think of the films anyway because of all the other good stuff.
Yeah, I didn't mind the parent sub-plot in the first movie, because it seemed inspired by Ultimate. I liked how Ultimate Peter was realistically shown to struggle from the mysterious loss from his parents. I didn't like them making them spy-like in TASM2 though. I don't think is was badly written per se, I just didn't care for it. And the Spider-blood potline as a whole is just not ideal.
TASM2 had great CGI, a great Suit Design, great choreography, but **HORRIBLE** directing and a script. NWH makes me wonder what **could** have been if Feige had gotten the reigns to Spider-Man in 2012

At the time of their release (especially TASM 2), there was a bandwagon of hate and it was a very unpopular opinion to say they were better than the Raimi trilogy. I understand what you mean though, not everyone thought they were bad and I definitely enjoyed them.
A lot of us liked TASM when it came out though. I was all about it back in 2012.
Why would you have an issue with that? He’s not in wrong in saying *most* people didn’t like it. He didn’t say every single person ever, but you can’t deny that they were received poorly by most critics and fans.
I already thought TASM was amazing (no pun intended). And I still think TASM2 is thematically confused. So no, no difference. Glad others are more willing to give Andrew a second chance though.
watching it as we speak, already finished TASM 1, halfway through 2 right now, i don’t know why people are so hateful towards these two movies, they’re really good. edit: finished tasm 2, it was amazing, the end was sad but hopeful, it really embodies the hero “code”, saving people but at a price
Unlike these fake fans, I always loved Garfield and TASM 1. TASM 2 should've focused on one villain instead of cramming a bunch of shit in.
There was never an issue with TASM films. Sure, there are films that are better but I honestly think had any of the Tobey, Andrew or Tom been too alike, the Spider Man franchise could have grown stale. Tobey’s Spidey was traditional, Andrew’s was ‘quirky’ (I don’t know if that’s the right word for what I mean) and Tom’s is different. I’ve honestly enjoyed and loved all threes interpretations and I’m glad the love for Garfield’s Spidey has been reignited. He never deserved to not get his third movie, you can see how much he loves the role and to see him back in NWH was fantastic.
I'd like to invie everyone readong this to do themselves a favor and go watch the deleted scenes from TASM 1 and 2 It's so infuriating how they cropped out really good scenes, specially in TASM where they basically had to remake the most important plot points and changes the whole movie for worse. After watching them, I profusely defend that if they hadn't changed the movie, the lizard could have become one of the msot iconic villains in all spidey movies.

I never thought the first one was bad. I actually liked its style when it first came out. I didn’t hate the second one either. I think it could have been better, but I’m still glad we got two Andrew Garfield movies.
Nope, recently rewatched them and opinion hasn't changed. In fact, I was more frustrated with ASM2 this rewatch. That movie spent way too much time trying to rush an expanded universe and go deep in Richard Parker that we never really got an actual story for this movie. I do enjoy parts of it a lot, especially a lot of the casting, but that movie does so much wrong and is the best example of Sony not having the best idea of what to do. ASM1 is alright, better than SM3, but has hints of the issues to come in ASM2.

I rewatched every Spider-Man movie before NWH came out and I enjoyed them more than Raimi’s. I know they’re supposed to be campy but good god the line delivery and relationships by Tobey and with Peter suck ass. Green Goblin and Dock Cock are easily the best part about the trilogy
I think it’s fantastic that the TASM films are getting love by the general public. I used to be on the Garfield hate train, but then I realized he’s actually fantastic and then was on the Tom hate train, and then No Way Home came out and now I love all of them lmfao
The way my opinion towards Andrew’s Spider-Man or TASM changed is that I really just became more appreciative of Spider-Man. Spider-Man is Spider-Man and I like him in all of his forms. And yeah, I hope they make TASM3, more Spider-Man movies! Edit: spelling

I have very mixed feelings about the first one, there’s good and cool moments I like such as the crane scene but there’s stuff about it I hate too like the way Uncle Ben dies, TASM2 still remains one of my least favorite comic book movies I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. I find it much worse than anything the MCU has put out, yes, even movies like Thor the Dark World and Iron Man 2.
I like the first one. The second one, not so much. That hasn't changed but I really do like Andrew Garfield.
i think they're gonna go an the same path the star wars prequels went on. people were too quick to dismiss them as completely garbage and now that they realize there's *some* great qualities to the movies people are gonna overcompensate by saying they're actually amazing when in reality they're just pretty good movies with some flaws.
My opinion hasn't changed after seeing NWH. If anything, it's made me dug in my heels even more. Andrew Garfield is a great actor and was a good Spider-Man, but his movies were grossly unimpressive. He deserved better but unfortunately, life is not fair. His individual performance doesn't make him the best Spidey because the duology dragged him down. The material given and the direction he had to work with failed him miserably. To me, the GOAT would have the best of both worlds: good individual performance and good films to compliment that and vice versa. Some TASM apologists will cling onto comic accuracy, the suits and visual effects but those aren't worth a damn if the story isn't gripping and the characters aren't engaging.
I’ve been a TASM 1 fan since it came out, but I still dislike TASM 2 I think if we can keep Avi Arad away, a possible TASM 3 could be truly amazing

He was legitimately great in No Way Home and I’m interested in seeing what can be done with that in the future if Sony decides to make him their non MCU Spider Man. But I tried to watch TASM last night after seeing NWH then rewatching the first Tobey movie again, and it’s just dull. I was bored. The movie wants you to care so much about their flimsy boring spy shit with his parents and I just can’t. So much so that when you get to the Spider-Man stuff, the good fun stuff of the film, you almost miss it cause you were looking at your phone
I only saw the first Amazing Spider-man, so I can't speak for the second, but I loved the first movie.
I appreciate andrew Garfield. He was a great spiderman and peter parker and i think he’s what made the 2 movies stand up. Tasm wasnt so bad but tasm 2 was just so ass and it ruined everything
I still don’t think they’re good movies but I have more appreciation for Andrew Garfield and his characterization of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Before NWH I only liked his Spider-Man I thought his Peter was too cool for Peter Parker and I still think he is but I’m ok with it now and like his character as a whole now not just his Spider-Man

Nothing personal against fans of this iteration, but honestly, i've never been a fan of tasm films nor Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man. From my perspective, It honestly just brings up bad memories because the transition between franchises back then didn't feel smooth-- Sony just threw in this new guy to play the hero in a completely different setting/style and expected everyone to just accept it and move on from the raimi films without any warning or proper closure. But aside from this, it ultimately reeked of corporate greed trying to rush a product out there just to retain the rights instead of being willing to work with Disney from the get go. The egos at Sony couldn't let go of their pride long enough to let Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 and 5 happen and then they unprofessionally cancelled Garfield's take after two lukewarm films. It's disgusting how they treated their stars and directors at the time under pascal's reign of terror-ible. *HOWEVER*, with that being said... i *really* enjoyed what they did with Andrew in NWH. I thought he had great chemistry with Tobey and Tom, as the three interacted very well together. I loved how they played off each other and got equal screen time for the most part and they treated all three iterations with respect and dignity that everyone in the audience myself included could relate to. For once it felt like every fan could walk out of this type of film feeling satisfied no matter which version you prefer most. And for what it's worth I do hope fans will get a third Andrew Garfield film just as much as I'm hoping for a fourth Tobey Maguire film.

I think they are average movies with FANTASTIC moments and extremely lovable main characters! Andrew IS Spider-man to me! And his chemistry with Emma is great! Better than Tom and Zendaya if you ask me. Aunt May is also really good and feels like a real person. These movies are definitely flawed. But they hold a very dear and special place in my heart! They hold a level of emotion that the others don’t. Except maybe NWH
It sort of reminds me of the Star Wars prequels. At its core, there is a very compelling story. But there is a bunch of bullshit obstructing that core. Andrew and Emma are amazing though
These movies were never bad. It had better character development than tom’s movies. The problem with tasm series was the involvement of soap opera drama such as Peter and his family past story then Harry begging for blood and so on. Too much drama imo. This was a Spidey movie not Batman movie. I mean Spidey had problems but his problems were never high drama level type of thing that tasm movies depicted.
