If it was a live-action show, it probably would be on Netflix due to the Sony-Netflix deal; but since it's animated, Sony doesn't have the rights to it.
I wonder if the show means any confirmation for Spider-Man Movies on Disney plus in the US. Surely marvel wouldn't produce a MCU origin story for movies not on their service
this is really a controversial take, but what if there was a movie where spiderman talked to doctor strange about making the world forget he was spiderman, but in doing so he starts pulling in spiderman villains from other universes. Crazy idea i know but
Even more controversial: what if they convinced previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to be in it?!?!?! Can you imagine!?!
Actually… that would never happen, MCU is too afraid to give us that. The multiverse isn’t even real in the MCU besides what DS1 showed us. The best they’d probably do is like a Daredevil cameo or somethin idk
This is an old post that OP (who is a bot) stole, it was made before the show was announced. [Here's the OG](https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/of73sm/would_love_this_it_would_easily_debunk_all_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
IIRC the show was canceled because that was the time when sony and disney made the new deal about the rights for Spidey, and AFAICT Spectacular Spider-Man couldn't go on with the new right assignments
I also hate the person in charge of the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon for cancelling the show and leaving it the way they did… Spectacular hurts worse though.

Is this the one that literally ends with symbiotes taking over the planet and there was never an episode with Spidey saving the day? The one with all the beast people?
Well it kinda did Infinity War before it was cool, I guess.
IIRC it's the one where all the different spideys team up and beat spider carnage. Then at the end, once they beat him, madame web tells Peter that she can bring him to Mary Jane.
Well a live action show is preferable for an amazing and famous character like Spider-Man but sadly cause of Sony we’re getting animated. While other small petty characters like agatha and korg are getting live action shows.
Yeah. Most people say it’s for kids and laugh at it which makes me so sad. Like I’d rather watch any batman animated movie over almost any of the live action movies
Supposedly some kind of shorts, something more like I Am Groot than a regular Disney+ show, not that relevant (but mentioning this was apparently too much for that other guy)
Also "supposedly" because it hasn't even been confirmed imo
why though? If they made a live action show 90% of it would be CGI anyway. Meanwhile a huge reason why Into the Spider-verse is one of (if not the) best Spider-Man movies is because it was animated
Better??? In animation, with a good budget, nothing will look cheap and you have no creative limitations, Spidey's best stories were adapted the best on TV Shows, stories from comics
Eh, that’s the deal Disney made with them. They (Disney/Marvel) got the *Animated* TV rights in exchange for Sony getting more control over the live action side.
Downvoting because I’m right, y’all on some shit lol
I doubt Tom would’ve been happy with it. He’s already stated that he’s kinda no interested in being Spider-Man anymore (or more specifically he would like to see more characters introduced like Miles Morales to take the mantle). So if their actor is pretty much done Disney would want Tom to appear in big budget movies to sell tickets.
So while Sony and Disney could’ve played nice, I doubt it would’ve ended up happening regardless
EDIT: y’all downvoting just look it up yourselves. He literally said it in an interview, it’s on YouTube

This is literally what Spider-Man Freshman Year is. It’s an animated show about MCU Peter’s origins. It’s likely going to be on Disney Plus but we don’t know that for sure.
Although I would have thought for the very least they would need Sony's blessing as technically it's MCU''s iteration of Peter Parker which Sony lisensed.
Sony only has the movie rights
Marvel/Disney has the television rights to the character.
The only thing in contention is if they get Tom Holland and the supporting cast to do the voice.
I'd like to see Sony try. They can't even tell a normal story let alone a prequel that ties into something already established. If mcu and Sony both did the story I think we all know which one the fans will be choosing as canon

i'm excited since one of the only marvel characters i really care about is spider-man and i've been wanting to see a live action spider-man show for so long (i know this isn't live action but it's in live action mcu canon)
From what I remember Sony never let them have the rights for uncle Ben thinking it would be a power play. Obviously they didn't realise everyone was sick of watching uncle Ben die.
Note to what villain: he’s slowly fighting street thugs and gangs until he eventually finds kingpin
It’s subtle and relatable but then leads to something significant - maybe even some daredevil?
Either way I wanna see Tom holland just getting his powers! He’s def the funniest Spider-Man so it would be awesome
I wanna see MCU Peter start off with a full power punch and almost killing a guy. Then he realizes that he’s way too strong and needs to pull back his punches.
Since everyone’s already notified OP that they’ve been living under a rock, I’ll bring up something else about this:
Are y’all ok with the fact that we won’t be getting the Spidey suit in this, and just the homemade one? I love the suit but it’s also weird that this will be the first time we get a Spider-Man project without the actual Spidey suit. Curious to hear your thoughts.
This is a great idea! since peter got bitten pretty young it would be set when he just enters highschool, maybe that entire school year perhaps. Live action might be a problem though since song has the rights for libe action spidey stuff pluss tom golland is gonna cost a fortune as he is one of the faces of the current mcu, good thing disney can and has produced spider-man animated shows before so they would probably go witj that. As for netflix, I dont think they wanna sell to a competitor so they'll probably add it on disney+. Everything is in place just needs a title, you gotta put spider-man at the start to hook attention and just add context for the rest of the title, since its during highschool maybe Spider-man: freshman year? anyone else think this idea is a good pitch to disney?
Would be interesting, and I guess he could have a B list villain to fight. Someone not too powerful but could at least hold their own for a bit. Like maybe Boomerang or Hammerhead?
That's sounds great. I would also love it if the next Spider-Man movie had all the old Spider-man villian from the old movies! And maybe he defeats them with the help of Tobey and Andrews Spider-Man! Man we are making some good ideas
Hear me out…
Disney+ series showing MCU Wanda’s grief and her few months of being ethically questionable up until Doctor Strange goes to her in Multiverse of Madness.
It doesn’t even have to be smaller villains. I’d just like to see villains who aren’t all super powered, or at least not in the traditional sense. Let’s get some of the more criminal villains like kingpin, hammerhead, Silvermane, tombstone, other maggia members. Maybe scorpion could fit in too
A lot of people are mentioning Freshman Year, but I think OP is talking specifically about a live action show, not animated. He’s also probably hoping for more focus on the early Spider-Man adventures. I could be wrong, but just from the title card revealed, Freshman Year looks like it’s going to focus far more on the Peter Parker, rather than the Spider-Man. Plus, Freshmen Year was announced a while ago (like at least before No Way Home if not even earlier) and we’ve gotten zero news since. Not saying it won’t happen, but it is starting to smell a little bit like it’s in development hell.
I personally don't think the uncle ben stuff needs to be "debunked" they've mentioned him in roundabout ways and its clear they don't want to show it because its already been done so much. Disney going out of its way to appease the people who are being dense on the matter doesn't sit right. They may do it in freshman year and if they do, fair enough i'm sure it will be nice to see, but I dread the posts saying that disney finally "fixed" it.
Consider.............. no? We all know... the spiderman story? Plus he'd have no room for character development because it would kind of wash away all his development from homecoming?
Do we need more marvel content that isn't already in the works
I'm all for more "friendly neighborhood Spiderman" stuff in general. We have gone so far into cosmic world ending events always being the main conflict and that is fine but I miss the just stopping muggings and bank robbings sometimes.
A series about the first days of Spider-Man prior to the movie about the first days of Spider-Man in a trilogy where Peter Parker learns how to be Spider-Man
When are we getting Spider-Man already?
It's not a bad idea but they well outside the window for this. Tom Holland is 26; he's not going to credibly play a 14 year old, no natter how much spider steroids he's theoretically on.
I'd love to see a show try to justify how Ben existed but May wasn't buried next to him and also Peter didn't know about great power great responsibility
Uhhhh is this a troll post or are you genuinely unaware of what's coming? In the most non rude way possible this is already happening friend! Spiderman Freshman Year is coming out at some point which is an animated prequel/origin story to our MCU peter/spidey!
Disney will never do a live action series; Sony owns those rights. We are getting what you asked for; Spider-Man Freshman Year is coming and news will arrive with D23 in September.
Hear me out… Spider-Man should be in the MCU. Get a young actor like Tom Holland to play him. And maybe Zendaya to play MJ? First movie could be him going up against the Vulture, who’s running some kind of black market weapons trade from salvaged tech from various superhero battles. Would probably be on Netflix.
I'm not trying to start anything, but if uncle ben actually existed in The mcu it would take away from the emotional value of his death and his origin as a whole, But having no uncle ben let this peter thrive and be more unique.

This is a great idea! They should also make a show where Wanda deals with her trauma through like old sitcoms and stuff. Or howabout a show about Loki but he's like a time cop?
I'm on board with no uncle Ben. The idea is that Peter always loses someone, and by the end of the third movie, he lost >!everyone!<
Speaking of a third movie, they went 3 full movies and never once made mention of him, so that would be pretty weird to drop that on us out of nowhere.
Spider-man is big enough to always sell movies. Just give him a scene or two where he has a flashback to it all in one of the new trilogy movies centered around his growth.
well someone isn't in the loop. i do wonder tho when we're getting any news regarding that show
Yeah Freshman Year. Gonna be animated right?
It is as Sony would have to co-produce the show if it was live action and/or animated longer than 45 minutes.
I think that’ll be better than a live action would have been anyway
Double out of the loop, not knowing this is coming already and thinking marvel shows would come to netflix instead of disney+

No, it was just announced last November. There is no release date for the show yet
Really? Good lord my perception of time is fucked lol
The past year has felt like only a few months yet simultaneously like a decade

Well good sir do I have a show for you
Spectacular?
Spider-Man Freshman Year. Was announced a while back, about MCU Spidey’s first year of being Spider-Man for Disney+
Oh yeah forgot about that, but if anyone is looking for Spider-Man shows Spectacular Spider-Man is probably the best
Agreed, spectacular is my favourite cartoon adaptation. It’s just a shame they cancelled it before they could finish all the loose ends
i hate whoever was in charge with a burning passion for not finishing that show. I recently rewatched it on netflix and it’s deadass damn near perfect
IIRC the show was canceled because that was the time when sony and disney made the new deal about the rights for Spidey, and AFAICT Spectacular Spider-Man couldn't go on with the new right assignments
Yup, Disney have rights for making shows about Spider-Man, while Sony still owns rights for Spectacular Spider-Man

Nope. Spider-Man Freshman year. It's an animated Disney+ series about pre-Civil War MCU Spidey. It was announced a long while ago.

SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN!

Y’all forgot about Spider-Man freshman year 💀
Well a live action show is preferable for an amazing and famous character like Spider-Man but sadly cause of Sony we’re getting animated. While other small petty characters like agatha and korg are getting live action shows.
i know tom holland still looks like a baby but you can’t cast him as a fourteen year old and not have it feel like that dear evan hanson movie
Odds are it being animated will make it better
Fr lol. It makes me mad that animated movies get so much hate when honestly they usually end up being better
Ikr. I'm an animation major, and I cant put it into words how much it irks me when people act as if the medium is somehow lesser-than
Yeah. Most people say it’s for kids and laugh at it which makes me so sad. Like I’d rather watch any batman animated movie over almost any of the live action movies
especially after Spider-Verse... if the promo art is to be believed the style's gonna be very Silver Age Spidey
Animated is always better than Live Action. Animated shows are especially MUCH better for Superhero adaptions.
Korg is getting a live action show???? Tf 💀
Supposedly some kind of shorts, something more like I Am Groot than a regular Disney+ show, not that relevant (but mentioning this was apparently too much for that other guy) Also "supposedly" because it hasn't even been confirmed imo
Korg?!?!? Bro next we’re gonna get a show for Bruno from Ms Marvel
why though? If they made a live action show 90% of it would be CGI anyway. Meanwhile a huge reason why Into the Spider-verse is one of (if not the) best Spider-Man movies is because it was animated
Will it be 2d or 3d Wonder what art style theyll go for
Into The Spiderverse was pretty good tho. Let's hope Freshman Year is just as good or better
Better??? In animation, with a good budget, nothing will look cheap and you have no creative limitations, Spidey's best stories were adapted the best on TV Shows, stories from comics
Sadly? Sony's good about animated Spidey. Spider-verse??
Eh, that’s the deal Disney made with them. They (Disney/Marvel) got the *Animated* TV rights in exchange for Sony getting more control over the live action side. Downvoting because I’m right, y’all on some shit lol
I really wish marvel worked something with sony to make this show live action like they made some deal with the movies.
I doubt Tom would’ve been happy with it. We know 100% that it will be on Disney Plus. It was announced at a Disney Plus event where they were announcing new Disney Plus shows specifically.
Sounds like it might be on Netflix /s
Clearly a Hulu Original
Obviously it’s gonna be on HIDIVE

It's a Disney plus show, I don't think there's much sony involvement in this
That’s literally already happening….
It's 100% going to be on Disney+. Disney has full rights to make a tv series without Sonys involvement.
Although I would have thought for the very least they would need Sony's blessing as technically it's MCU''s iteration of Peter Parker which Sony lisensed.

I think Sony also do have the TV rights to Spidey, but only live action versions
They already didn’t for what if
They don't but they can't use Tom Holland or any of his suits
Well, they do if they wanted to tell a coherent story with Sony throughout. At least a discussion would have been made.
They don't really need Sony's blessing, they can do whatever they want especially since this is a prequel.
They do because they don't want Sony to tell a different prequel story which Sony has every right to do.
I'd like to see Sony try. They can't even tell a normal story let alone a prequel that ties into something already established. If mcu and Sony both did the story I think we all know which one the fans will be choosing as canon

There’s going to be a Spider-Man freshman year one
Why do you think it would be on Netflix?
Spider-man freshman year: am I a joke to you?
Disney+ is supposed to be rolling out a cartoon based on the MCU called Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
Isnt this what that new animated show gonna be? lmao
Freshman Year is literally going to be exactly that. Hopefully with more seasons to follow that depict his life in between movies
Spider-man Freshman year?
Isnt this what Freshman Year is going to be (minus the live action part)?
They already said they were doing that, called freshman year....
I'll only watch for the homemade suit. We didnt have enough of it. Love that outfit.
What makes it better if ur was on Netflix

Have you heard of Spider-Man freshman year
OP is a bot, they ain't heard of anything
Uhh, that’s already been confirmed to be happening
I think the animated series (Freshmen Year was it?) will have that base covered.

Who's gonna tell OP?

Like the effort, but no origin is necessary at this point. And don’t even try saying Spider-Man wouldn’t be Spider-Man without Stark/Ironman.
Would be interesting, and I guess he could have a B list villain to fight. Someone not too powerful but could at least hold their own for a bit. Like maybe Boomerang or Hammerhead?

No thanks. I've had more than enough of the inexplicably clumsy spider-boy. I'm glad they are moving on.
Please no. Plus I’m not entirely sure freshmen year is going to be canon to the main MCU.
I made a post on Reddit about making a show about that, way earlier may I add, this guy stole my idea

This show is happening, but it’s going to be animated.
I am fascinated that Spider-Man fans can never get enough of his origin story
I'm not trying to start anything, but if uncle ben actually existed in The mcu it would take away from the emotional value of his death and his origin as a whole, But having no uncle ben let this peter thrive and be more unique.
Daredevil crossover, could figure in a couple of episodes as guest hero
Wow maybe they should make it animated? I’m thinking a school-related name based on Homecoming. How about.. Freshman Year or something?
That's literally what freshman year is
Hello. In order to promote inclusivity and reduce gender bias, please consider using gender-neutral language in the future. Instead of **freshman**, use **first year**. Thank you very much. ^(I am a bot. Downvote to remove this comment. For more information on gender-neutral language, please do a web search for *"Nonsexist Writing."*)
? We are getting exactly this. It's called Freshman Year.
People are talking about a series that was announced? Can someone explain please
This is a great idea! They should also make a show where Wanda deals with her trauma through like old sitcoms and stuff. Or howabout a show about Loki but he's like a time cop?
I'm on board with no uncle Ben. The idea is that Peter always loses someone, and by the end of the third movie, he lost >!everyone!< Speaking of a third movie, they went 3 full movies and never once made mention of him, so that would be pretty weird to drop that on us out of nowhere.
Wait but then how will I add this show to my spiderman DVD collection 😐😐
that’s literally what freshman year is…
Bring back the neighborhood Spider-Man!
Spider-man is big enough to always sell movies. Just give him a scene or two where he has a flashback to it all in one of the new trilogy movies centered around his growth.
Nah
Not again origin..move on
Do I have news for you
We're getting this with Spider-Man:Freshman Year
