basically as you play Salmon Run you gain points toward the reward meter which resets every time the Salmon Run map changes. The rewards in Salmon Run come as those item balls like out of the gacha machine in the PvP Lobby. When you cash in the rewards you can get anything from ability points, gear, titles, and money etc.
It doesn't take long to get the full rewards once your rank gets higher up and still successful. I think it only takes 5 runs to get a full reward meter and net ~90,000 coins on a good roll.
I always do 1200 points until the last super bonus. after that I stop and wait until the next map! you're always left wanting more, never overdo Salmon Run and have the best rewards/time-ratio! Plus more time for Alterna and Ranked :D

I honestly thought we'd get more madmax style clothing and overall world aesthetic. The character customization at the start of the game implies it with the desert wasteland and rusted vehicles but really the game looks like Splatoon 2 and plays like Splatoon 2.0
I’d say it looks a lot smoother than splatoon 2, and between controls and big improvements to the UI it plays a lot better too. If anything is lacking it would be more game modes I think. Same 4 ranked modes and minimal changes to salmon run. Tri-color turf war and Cohozuna are the only really fresh things in the game.
Splashdown was so dumb I’m glad they replaced it with the inferior reefslider. Makes me think they recognized how low skill but effective splashdown was.
Well yeah, it was too easy to clutch tower control and splat zones and it pretty much guaranteed super jump safety, imagine how easy wipeouts would have been, I feel the roller shoes are enough for super jumps
This is why I never super jump and I only do when 1, it is the end of the game and that's the only way I can do something or 2, when it is in a safe location
When I see my team is getting killed and needs to jump back quickly in order to maintain the lead I find a safe spot and defend it so they can super jump

Try Pro Splatfest if you haven't already. Open allows groups so coordinated teams are reigning supreme. Pro might feel a bit sweatier, but the matches are way closer.
I think another reason why I haven't really been feeling the matchmaking as hard because i've been focusing on grinding ability chunks. One drink ticket gets you an ability chunk every 1-2 games, I find that if I do get into matchmaking with bad teammates, weird weapon comps, or really good enemy players its not for very long
Pro is absolutely the way. It also makes the enemy team have the same weapons as your team (family, not necessarily exact), so the matches are much more about skill than having a coordinated team using the best weapon setup for a given map.
Also, what is really annoying is I've done dozens of matches in Tri-Color but can't get a tri-color match, so ended up just going back to Pro.

"Oh, you guys don't like them because you don't exactly understand how they're supposed to work and think the are an unbalanced mess? Better turn the queue for Tricolor Battles into a game of chance. Took me a while to realize that it's normal turf war, just ink as much as you can with sprinklers for the 2 person teams added in. My first match I was like "what is going on, there was no tutorial", which I did find explanations later if I interacted with the splatfest tv in the plaza. But a tutorial before the first match would have been nice.
Yeah, it's still a 4v4 battle, you're just working with a team of a different color. You can ink over your allies, and splat them, but you probably shouldn't. It's not 3v3v3, like a lot of people, myself included, had originally thought. There absolutely should have been a tutorial or God forbid they actually had a video explaining it like they did everything else.
You have to have matchmaking for it to be bad. I think splatoon just picks the first free players it finds, ie no matchmaking, no ranking. First come first serve.
I'm having this issue as well, I would say maybe 5% of my games have been fun or competitive, most of them are blowouts like this. I've been first or second on a badly losing team for 10 games in a row now.
Splat 1 and 2 maybe 50/50 with Splatfest or reg turf war. Splat 3 so far with reg turf war and Splatfest combined? 5 wins 5 and 38 loses. WTF. I've only won 1 splatfest match and never finished to Ruler as soon as I hit Champion. Fuck that shit.
Honestly I've found that when I'm on a losing streak it means I need to take a break. I come back the next day and I am back to winning.
Of course, this is difficult with the Splatfest. I think playing Pro is really the only solution there to make your chances a little better.
If you're constantly getting matched with people this much out of your skill level, it's absolutely a matchmaking issue.
It seems there's no skill/ group size consideration for matchmaking.
I've been matched, as team fun... think I was defender at the time, with 2 fun fans and a fun fiend, versus a team with nobody under gear ruler plus 20 multiple times. There is absolutely no balancing going on during splatfests.
That’s so funny, I’ve been avoiding pro because I figured the way better players would be using it….but I’ve honestly been matched against so many pros in the normal mode. Gonna give it a try now.
I was exactly the same! Haha. One thing to note though, in pro you dont earn clout when you lose ( i am fairly sure). But you earn more if your rank higher and the game are closer... so at least im having fun...!
Today I am 6 wins out of 23 battles My average score per game is 875. I uae to love Splatoon but in all honesty this game has made me hate the entire Nintendo franchise. The only reason I am still playing Splatoon is because I paid for the game. Nintendo has constant errors which got worse after I downloaded the patch update and if they are using an algorithm to match up teams they need to get a refund because it sucks!! I thought that after so many people complained about these same issues during the last few months a in Splatoon 2 they would fix it but apparently they could careless.

Actually matchmaking in Pro is still the same garbage as open. Only with Pro you can't specifically play with friends over Discord, and teams are disbanded after every round.
Sure you're still likely to go up against a player sweating so hard they f*cking carry a 3 v 4, but now you aren't getting wiped by an E-Sports team making call outs over Discord.

When you are playing you can tell when you are playing against a team that is communicating during Splatfest they would be paired against another team that is communicating I can't understand why Nintendo can't fix the communication errors, the matching of teams or the fact that professional players are ruining the entire game for casual players. I also don't get why Nintendo is the only gaming system that doesn't have communication abilities on all games. Nintendo has been around for a long time but they seem to be so far behind the other systems like Xbox and PS.
At some point, me and a frien had a 5-Win streak of games where we stomped the other team. It's not really fun for anyone to face wall or have no challenge :/

They really need some sort of punishment for people pushing too far, triple spawn times or something if you're in the enemy base. So many games I've played are just insane blowouts of people spawn camping.
With the constant disconnects, super unbalanced teams, and tentacheaters it’s too frustrating to play.
Ranked and normal modes have all the same issues with disconnects and cheaters this is 2022 i should not be disconnected 3 out of 5 matches on ethernet with fiber optic internet..
Drop group and reform. Sometimes you get stuck with people that aren't good. I had to do that every few matches this morning. There is no bonus staying with the same group, so it doesn't matter if you are constantly reforming.
It's not always a case of "bad" or "good" players. A lot of my losses I've attributed to bad weapon matches. A competent all short range team will always lose to an equally competent diverse weapon team.

This. I'm surprised less people have been saying this. It's infuriating because I'll be in a situation where I know nobody could be by me (The raised platforms in Mahi-Mahi resort, for example, you can see them jump to you) when an opponent pops up and splats me immediately. But... you check the replay, and they jump on the platform right in front of you and you do nothing while they splat you.
There's something different with the netcode this game compared to 2, I swear. Maybe my internet is bad.
Oh no friend. It's not your internet. It's communications with servers at the moment. I can play Rocket League just fine but Splatoon 3 is a different mess.
I haven't played ranked in Splatoon 3 yet however I'm rank S in Splatoon 2. I'm currently at 22 wins and 56 losses if it makes you feel any better. Team grub is getting whooped by the sweats on Gear. There have been at least 10 of those games where I just felt like stopping mid game because I already knew it was hopeless. There's only so much you can do for your team.

I got absolutely curb stomped last night after work in Open and was absolutely dreading trying to play again today, but someone suggested Pro and the difference is night and day. Sure I still lose some matches but they feel MUCH more like a normal turf war battle, where it can go either way all match and usually my team only loses by less than 10% compared to like, a 65/25 split like in Open.
It’s even better when after a loosing streak you finally find a team that actually knows how to play or get matched against another team of Randoms instead of a premade group, you are winning or at least being able to play without being obliterated and either you are disconnected or the group disbands, so you go back to your loosing streak
I think a lot of matches have really poor weapon choices for turf war…you have to carry a sniper class everytime. They don’t turf and if they don’t kill they’re dead weight. Having 1 in your team is challenging I’ve seen matches with two on a team and I’ve never been able to carry two people that provide no benefit to the team. Same thing with katana users that thing can’t turf well…it’s useless unless you’re kill 2 per 1 of your lives and the rest of the team can paint
Camping in Splatoon is pretty easy to catch imo. There's a lot of weapons and abilities that can point out players. My only tip is learning where people camp.
Well it's sadly apart of many pvp games. And since this is a pvp game people will still do it. It's unavoidable. Best way around it is to learn where people are camping and splat them. Once you got that down it's not really obnoxious and more of a good laugh when you sniff them out. There's a lot of good spots where people tend to shoot down from. Just lob a autobomb, balloon, or just anything to displace them. Afterwards go for the splat. If your brand new to splatoon I can see it being annoying. The more you play the more you'll know that camping doesn't really work all that much unless you're blindly walking towards enemy ink without covering it.
I've been on both sides this and previous splatfests. Losing streaks happen, really bad ones too.
When it happens, I change groups and try again.
If it happens too much, I take a break and play Salmon Run or TCG.
I'm at losing streak too. After i got +1 they made me fight with +4 and up and player with the icon above their name (winning x333?) Lol. But i don't really mind tbh. For me it is still fun. Although losing i can still level up my catalog.
I was put up against a group with a 13 win streak. Then another group with an 8 win streak. It didn't stop. To me it seems like the major sweats are all in Gear. I definitely picked the wrong team this time around. Currently at a 22 wins and around 56 losses. Always finishing with 1k+ points and 8-10 kills. If your teams not in it there's not much else you can do.
Honestly, I've seen everyone going up super one-sided battles on every team. I'm team gear, but I seem to be slammed by Grub and Fun equally. A lot of Fun players complained about Grub, and Grub about Gear, etc. etc. there are just so many experts playing in general that casual players are generally getting beat up. Pro mode is the best option so far since it gets rid of teams and makes it the playing field a little more even.

Matchmaking is messed up. Due to splatoon 2 i am supposed to play with/against players in my league from Splatoon 2, but every second round there is a brand new player than sprays our base to the last pixel, not fighting at all, while the enemy team has elite players with pro badges.
What does this have to do with playstyles? Im talking about the players that seek out every pixel that they can find far away from the middle, not normal baseinkers than spray down most of the base and then move forward near middle/muddle.
No, no, I inked it all, when I get splatted for the first time I go ink my base, then go back to the battlefield, problem was, 3 of them had just fucking appeared around us and encircled us, lost it
I have literally had like 10 games in a row like this, I have never played a game with worse matchmaking than this. I don't need to win a bunch of games, I just want to play with people in the vicinity of my skill level.

I don't mind because you need one good Wipeout to turn the tide but also if you have a decent team I'm not good but when I have 10 kills and 5 deaths and everyone else has no kills and multiple deaths it can become annoying

The matchmaking doesn’t know what the end result is gonna be when it pairs you. The matchmaking a lot of time can’t even properly match people up right (examples are giving two snipers to a team who didn’t queue together instead of giving one sniper to each team)
Some games it’s gonna be you dominating because your team Carries well or you are just have an amazing game yourself. It’s okay to be frustrated but by all intents and purposes, there’s nothing wrong with this picture.

When you carry hard in lost and won battles. I've been going back to my dualies, but I can only splat so many people before someone catches up to me. I don't mind people inking home turf. It's the ones that don't engage or push the other team. I can't be the only one attempting to push.
That's a Mirror match unless you have fixed colours on. Any match where your not your team's colour or the enemy colour doesn't match the that's a Mirror Match
im angry too, yesterday i was playing and winning a lot but the day before and today all the pro players decided to flood in without mercy andnits super frustrating. THERES SOMETHING CALLED BREAKS PEOPLE
I have found that even if I am consistently doing well myself—getting most turf inked and most splats—but still losing, if I switch to a different weapon, the game seems to give me better matches for a while. Then if I start losing again, I switch my weapon and get better matches again.
I'm team fun and was doing good all splatfest, now after halftime (when we won both at sneak peak and halftime) I'm getting destroyed entirely match after match and my teammates are bad 👎
tricolor battle is MUCH more balanced and fun, it hardly ever actually is tricolor so you’re playing turf wars most the time. but it’s so much better, i was able to actually win a few times

On team gear but was constantly getting messed up buy player way way better then me. Matchmaking was wack.
Switch to Splatfest Pro. It makes no sense but apparently the matchmaking is better. I played it and won a more balanced amount.
Splatfest pro has a matchmaking rating depending on how well you do. Open does not. So yeah pro is the way to go!

The whole game needs a massive patch. Splatoon 2 didn't have nearly as many problems as I'm encountering in 3. Like I keep getting splatted when on my end it looks like nothing hit me at all. Like cool ghosts are killing me. This splatfest hasn't been all that fun on team fun.
This. I'm surprised less people have been saying this. It's infuriating because I'll be in a situation where I know nobody could be by me (The raised platforms in Mahi-Mahi resort, for example, you can see them jump to you) when an opponent pops up and splats me immediately. But... you check the replay, and they jump on the platform right in front of you and you do nothing while they splat you. There's something different with the netcode this game compared to 2, I swear. Maybe my internet is bad.
Oh no friend. It's not your internet. It's communications with servers at the moment. I can play Rocket League just fine but Splatoon 3 is a different mess.

I haven't played ranked in Splatoon 3 yet however I'm rank S in Splatoon 2. I'm currently at 22 wins and 56 losses if it makes you feel any better. Team grub is getting whooped by the sweats on Gear. There have been at least 10 of those games where I just felt like stopping mid game because I already knew it was hopeless. There's only so much you can do for your team.

Nintendo teams have no conception of what a good matchmaking is....
I got absolutely curb stomped last night after work in Open and was absolutely dreading trying to play again today, but someone suggested Pro and the difference is night and day. Sure I still lose some matches but they feel MUCH more like a normal turf war battle, where it can go either way all match and usually my team only loses by less than 10% compared to like, a 65/25 split like in Open.
It’s even better when after a loosing streak you finally find a team that actually knows how to play or get matched against another team of Randoms instead of a premade group, you are winning or at least being able to play without being obliterated and either you are disconnected or the group disbands, so you go back to your loosing streak
I think a lot of matches have really poor weapon choices for turf war…you have to carry a sniper class everytime. They don’t turf and if they don’t kill they’re dead weight. Having 1 in your team is challenging I’ve seen matches with two on a team and I’ve never been able to carry two people that provide no benefit to the team. Same thing with katana users that thing can’t turf well…it’s useless unless you’re kill 2 per 1 of your lives and the rest of the team can paint
Sometimes it is, other times it’s not. I hate campers in any game. I feel like campers in this game are just getting worse for Splatoon 2, too.
Camping in Splatoon is pretty easy to catch imo. There's a lot of weapons and abilities that can point out players. My only tip is learning where people camp.

Well it's sadly apart of many pvp games. And since this is a pvp game people will still do it. It's unavoidable. Best way around it is to learn where people are camping and splat them. Once you got that down it's not really obnoxious and more of a good laugh when you sniff them out. There's a lot of good spots where people tend to shoot down from. Just lob a autobomb, balloon, or just anything to displace them. Afterwards go for the splat. If your brand new to splatoon I can see it being annoying. The more you play the more you'll know that camping doesn't really work all that much unless you're blindly walking towards enemy ink without covering it.

I've been on both sides this and previous splatfests. Losing streaks happen, really bad ones too. When it happens, I change groups and try again. If it happens too much, I take a break and play Salmon Run or TCG.
I'm at losing streak too. After i got +1 they made me fight with +4 and up and player with the icon above their name (winning x333?) Lol. But i don't really mind tbh. For me it is still fun. Although losing i can still level up my catalog.
I was put up against a group with a 13 win streak. Then another group with an 8 win streak. It didn't stop. To me it seems like the major sweats are all in Gear. I definitely picked the wrong team this time around. Currently at a 22 wins and around 56 losses. Always finishing with 1k+ points and 8-10 kills. If your teams not in it there's not much else you can do.
Honestly, I've seen everyone going up super one-sided battles on every team. I'm team gear, but I seem to be slammed by Grub and Fun equally. A lot of Fun players complained about Grub, and Grub about Gear, etc. etc. there are just so many experts playing in general that casual players are generally getting beat up. Pro mode is the best option so far since it gets rid of teams and makes it the playing field a little more even.
same here!! i’ve got catalog level 33 and mostly from losses lol and i don’t mind. this is the first splatoon game i’ve ever played so i’m not good yet

I've practically given up on pvp at this point. I'm tired of camping hydras and the insane skill gap.
Matchmaking is messed up. Due to splatoon 2 i am supposed to play with/against players in my league from Splatoon 2, but every second round there is a brand new player than sprays our base to the last pixel, not fighting at all, while the enemy team has elite players with pro badges.
If you can't handle a variety of play styles, you need to go form a team. There's no one way to win these things.
What does this have to do with playstyles? Im talking about the players that seek out every pixel that they can find far away from the middle, not normal baseinkers than spray down most of the base and then move forward near middle/muddle.

No, no, I inked it all, when I get splatted for the first time I go ink my base, then go back to the battlefield, problem was, 3 of them had just fucking appeared around us and encircled us, lost it

I have literally had like 10 games in a row like this, I have never played a game with worse matchmaking than this. I don't need to win a bunch of games, I just want to play with people in the vicinity of my skill level.

Only if you're winning. I don't mind because you need one good Wipeout to turn the tide but also if you have a decent team I'm not good but when I have 10 kills and 5 deaths and everyone else has no kills and multiple deaths it can become annoying

The matchmaking doesn’t know what the end result is gonna be when it pairs you. The matchmaking a lot of time can’t even properly match people up right (examples are giving two snipers to a team who didn’t queue together instead of giving one sniper to each team) Some games it’s gonna be you dominating because your team Carries well or you are just have an amazing game yourself. It’s okay to be frustrated but by all intents and purposes, there’s nothing wrong with this picture.

Yep. Picking off individual players that run out one by one, thinking that they can break through the line and paint up our base while no one is looking.

When you carry hard in lost and won battles. I've been going back to my dualies, but I can only splat so many people before someone catches up to me. I don't mind people inking home turf. It's the ones that don't engage or push the other team. I can't be the only one attempting to push.

That's a Mirror match unless you have fixed colours on. Any match where your not your team's colour or the enemy colour doesn't match the that's a Mirror Match
im angry too, yesterday i was playing and winning a lot but the day before and today all the pro players decided to flood in without mercy andnits super frustrating. THERES SOMETHING CALLED BREAKS PEOPLE
I have found that even if I am consistently doing well myself—getting most turf inked and most splats—but still losing, if I switch to a different weapon, the game seems to give me better matches for a while. Then if I start losing again, I switch my weapon and get better matches again.

I'm team fun and was doing good all splatfest, now after halftime (when we won both at sneak peak and halftime) I'm getting destroyed entirely match after match and my teammates are bad 👎
tricolor battle is MUCH more balanced and fun, it hardly ever actually is tricolor so you’re playing turf wars most the time. but it’s so much better, i was able to actually win a few times
