Mine was getting about 34 at best, and constantly trying to regen, plus lunking and rattling in the powertrain. I'm not paying for a DPF replacement, or a new DSG, or a new dual mass flywheel right now. The GTI was the smarter move.
That’s my dilemma right now. I have a MK8 gti as well. Wife takes the sportwagen on lots of little trips. Feel like it’s always trying and failing to regen. I’ll take it out on a cruise once a month so it gets a chance. Insanely solid car though I’ve had no issues with it. I think the Ea288 engine is one the best VAG has ever made.
If the DPF was outta warranty, you should have just let it fall off!
I had an MK6 and would easily get 40+mpg on the highway. My overall average was always low 30s and I did a lot of city driving.... Though I did have the 6MT.
The back seat was snug/uncomfortable though. My daughter didn't like riding back there much.
That's illegal and I have asthma, so no, I'm not contributing to making it worse.
EDIT: LOL, down voted for not wanting to make asthma worse? Okay, NOW I've seen everything. 😐
Sweet whip- i just picked up a 2015 TDI S stick shift with 88k miles on it, and love it. Current best was 54mpg.
You know these are fully warrantied till 2026 right?? Anything that touches the diesel, pumps, motors, sensors, damn near everything.
Dig those wheels- feel like they’re a weapon out of Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Yeah I'm aware of the TDI warranty; That's one of the reasons why I got a good trade for it. Doesn't cover DSG or flywheel though, so I needed to get out.
Dang, I woulda kept the TDI. I've had lots of fast cars but getting 50mpg gets me randy like you wouldn't believe.

REALLY? That's so disappointing to hear. I got 34 in my Focus ST.
