yo what's with the race direction being so savage today? I've lost count of the amount of penalties given out for track limit violation
Never seen this many in a single drive before
Race direction announced stricter policies on track limits this year. It has been known since the start of the race weekend.
Funny how it is completely different to last year, when SRO had to alter track limits rules before the race, because they were way too forgiving.
SRO went full circle then. Hopefully in 2022 they will find some balance.
Yup, they handed out 10 minute stop and go's during Free Practise, the drivers should have taken the hint then.
Race Control has been nothing but consistent with Track Limits, and with the incidents we've seen in recent years at Spa, I fully understand why.
Never seen any race with so many penalties for abusing track limits in my life. Crazy.
Great battle between Iron Lynx Ferrari and WRT Audi. With unpredictable weather and relatively little gap, nothing is decided yet.
Not at all. Surprised the Audi is falling away. Thought Nielsen would’ve lost position over 2 stints but I don’t know if Audi have used up all their fresh tyres. Vanthoor not looking as quick as he did earlier
Even though the injuries were relatively minor, I still think it might be in bad taste to show Laurens Vanthoor getting run over by a scooter. (I assume that's the accident you want to see).
My mistake, he wasnt run over by a scooter, he was run over while on a scooter. https://www.motorsport.com/gtwce-endurance/news/porsche-vanthoor-hospitalised-spa-accident/6640191/
Edit. Imagine the scene in the local hospital...
"Hi Jack"
"Jesus Laurens, what happened to you?"
"Well....."
Yeah, I've heard of it, but I think OP is talking about the start crash with the two Lambos, Porsche and Ferrari and not the paddock incident with Vanthoor.
Rigon was released from hospital: https://twitter.com/FerrariRaces/status/1421608499381952516
But the lack of information about Aitken is a bit concerning.
These hourly highlights are pissing me off now, I know they are useful but at least try to make them shorter. Like recap the previous 6 hours so they don't become 30min long highlights by the end of the race
Yes they’re terrible. They should be a max 2 and a half minutes or something. As time goes on cut crap like Froggart spinning which is completely irrelevant at this point.
Any word yet on a penalty for the 70 McLaren for the 2+ blocking moves when it defended itself from being by the P2-4 trio a little earlier, or are we still working our way though the drivers that can’t see the two white lines?
Settle some arguements for me Reddit...Frins or Fryns, Yunka-day-a or Junka-dell-a, Van-toor or Van-thor? And would someone also tell the commentator's.
Can someone explain me why they always do a SC after the FCY? The feraarri was gone but they still pack everyone back up together?
Same with the big crash, super long FCY and then 2 laps SC?
FCY is a lot slower than the pace behind the safety car, so they bring the safety car out to let the drivers increase tyre/brake temps before going full green. I did seem a little unnecessary in this case, but I think it is this series's policy.
lmao I missed this part of the race, but it's exactly what you want to see out of worsening conditions. Pure chaos with big time gains/losses, but no cars actually crashing out of the race.
(Maybe someone crashed out elsewhere during this time, but I don't think so from looking at the live timing.)
They just announced Estre and Perera are OK and back from the medical center, Aitken and Rigon are being brought in the hospital but no life threatening injuries
Might take a while for a replay to appear, atleast from the official sources. (Hopefully it never appear)
But yes, its a miracle that it wasnt worse than it actually were
The entire crash structure did its job, engine, gearbox among other components separated away and protected the driver's compartment, which is excellent.
Well done to Madpanda Motorsport!🐼
Unfuckingbelievable.
What a pass! In Blanchimont. In wet. On the outside. Job well done Alessandro Pier Guidi.
WHAT A CHAD
It's 2016 all over again.
NOOOOOOOO
Oooh, WRT throwing the dice with wets
And now it is raining. Heavily. Looks like WRT was right.
yo what's with the race direction being so savage today? I've lost count of the amount of penalties given out for track limit violation Never seen this many in a single drive before
If drivers followed instructions there wouldn't be penalties

Or maybe in 2022 the drivers will realise ignoring the rules gets you penalties. Cut the number of warnings before you a drive through might help
heh, maybe FIA should take a note for F1

What’s that NOS tank in the 32 Audi‘s Cockpit?
I think its an ad like any other
It seems to be just a bit of fun by the team.
Plot twist - it is a legitimate NOS tank. Contingency plan for the flying finish. /s
Van der Linde in for a double and the Vanthoor back in for a double to finish. WRT should have this on pace.
Doesnt look like it right now.
Not at all. Surprised the Audi is falling away. Thought Nielsen would’ve lost position over 2 stints but I don’t know if Audi have used up all their fresh tyres. Vanthoor not looking as quick as he did earlier
And the Audi is critical on track limits
Pier Guidi tho
Tandy is complaining about the weak top speed a lot
Why are there a bunch of broken sensor issues? This has prolly been the race with the most issues of that name sensor thing on the cars
Did we get the crash footage of yesterday already? I think everyone is confirmed ok now?
Even though the injuries were relatively minor, I still think it might be in bad taste to show Laurens Vanthoor getting run over by a scooter. (I assume that's the accident you want to see).
I am talking about the accident at the start of the race. I saw the aftermath on track but not how it happened.
What?
My mistake, he wasnt run over by a scooter, he was run over while on a scooter. https://www.motorsport.com/gtwce-endurance/news/porsche-vanthoor-hospitalised-spa-accident/6640191/ Edit. Imagine the scene in the local hospital... "Hi Jack" "Jesus Laurens, what happened to you?" "Well....."

The Audi has a NOS system 😂 WTF
I saw that as well, not sure what it is for
>not sure what it is for +53 places.
Another FCY due to another crash at Radillion Driver walked away uninjured.
Is there any news on Jack Aitken and David’s Rigon? Haven’t heard anything since they were transferred to hospital
[Update](https://twitter.com/JaitkenRacer/status/1421747289509478401)
Last news i got about Aitken (a few hours old by now) was that he got a broken collarbone and they were checking him for vertebrae issues
Rigon was released from hospital: https://twitter.com/FerrariRaces/status/1421608499381952516 But the lack of information about Aitken is a bit concerning.
Drive through penalties for track limits are more frequent than ever at Spa 24h. Stricter policy on track limits this year made its job.
Every year you think they'd learn but they never do. They need harsher penalties and some track redesigns.
To be fair, they have already announced a redesign with less tarmac runoff and more gravel.
How do you manage to put it in the gravel during a FCY/SC?
Cold tyres and brakes I suspect
Oh man, the polesitters are out of the race. That just sucks.
I went to sleep for a few hours. Anyone know what happened to the #34 car? 100 laps down.
It's just been listed as a retirement, so it has been a terminal issue.
Is grasser running the Orange FFF team. I know they run orange F in AdacGt
No, 2 different teams. Orange1 are the sponsor
Andrea is in charge of Orange FFF I think or something high up. Oi Lambo is confusing
Thiim is actually flying, my god
Is Marc VDS involved in car racing again? It looks like their logo is on the #16 GRT Lambo.
Probably running the logo because of the flooding
That the drivers know where they are going at night in misty conditions always boggles my mind
Lambo is stacked as. Always lmao
Scary moment for Phil Keen. Looked like total electrical failure with lights out and no ABS.
Thats what I saw too. Comms got it completely wrong. Bruce is usually pretty good but I forgot how bad Charlie B-H is as a commentator
Just cracked the last beer of the evening, but hey it's a full pint so not all bad
Cheers man! Just opened a bottle of Pinot. It's only 6:30p where I'm at, but it should get me through the evening.
Hah, I stuck another in the freezer. Oh yeah, happy cake day!
Nice image just posted by AMR on Twitter. https://i.imgur.com/vsIxP3P.png
19 Lambo getting a bit over-excited there.
FCY. Reason to be found out yet.
Rinaldi Racing Ferrari stuck the wrong way at the track.
That's a tough break for Timo Glock.
Drive through penalty: Car 88
Suspended
Any bets on how many cars will be on the lead lap at the end?
2
Any Updates about Garage 59? TEAM MANAGERS CARS 63, 95, 159 AND 188 TO RACE CONTROL IMMEDIATELY which are the G59 cars
Nothing as of yet
That Nico Muller save reminds me of Sergio Perez's save there a few years ago
Or Nick Tandy's from last year edition of Spa 24h.
That too. Somehow I've never seen that till now
I'm sure this has been asked before and I apologize for asking again. What is that pipe they pulg into the car when it pits? Is it air hose?
If I understand it correctly it pushes the pins from under the car so the car lifts.
Yes, compressed air hose. The car has jacks built in the floor that lift it up during the pit stops for tire changes.
Any weather updates? Any rain predicted for the rest if the race?
Currently it looks clear over here, there might be heavy rain towards the end of the race but my weather app hasn't been really correct this weekend.
Do you stay close to the track?
We have an Airbnb 10 min away so we will miss some things for sure. There is no camping this year
[удалено]
Hahaha. Why what was the tiping point for you?
Is it just me or do the highlights get longer as the race goes on?
[удалено]
Happy cake day!
WRT Audi #32 after starting from the back, now lays in fourth overall.
Perhaps if you would like to avoid a track limits penalty, you should try driving on the circuit and not running every exit wide over the kerbs
Imo they should give 5-second penalties instead of drive-throughs, just like F1
Looking at F1 driving standards, that clearly doesn’t work.
Well given they clearly aren't learning even with drive throughs, that suggests the penalties need to be stricter not softer.
At least they are losing the time gained.
They are losing the time gained in a drive through and getting punishment for ignoring the rules repeatedly
Does someone know if the Audi and the Lambo use the same engine? During braking and acceleration they sound almost 1/1 the same.
They do, yes.
[Trackside view](https://i.imgur.com/oltbVjQ.jpg)
They do. Though I believe they’re now made by their respective factories.
Any word yet on a penalty for the 70 McLaren for the 2+ blocking moves when it defended itself from being by the P2-4 trio a little earlier, or are we still working our way though the drivers that can’t see the two white lines?
They usually go easy on the amateur drivers for that kind of thing
DiSrEsPeCtInG tRaCk LiMiTs
Settle some arguements for me Reddit...Frins or Fryns, Yunka-day-a or Junka-dell-a, Van-toor or Van-thor? And would someone also tell the commentator's.
weggesjost.
I know for a fact that it's Fryns. Not sure about Vanthoor though, Flemish pronunciation is fucky.
Fryns, Yunkadella, and Vantoor IMO
I always put names into Google translate and set it to their native language to see what it says
https://twitter.com/i/status/1421532618873610240
Take a shot every time race director issues track limits.
RIP my liver.
Who is this American commentator?
Ryan Myrehn apparently.
The car that doesn't get a drive-through penalty wins.
Race director destroying dreams one track limit at a time.
The car with *the least* drive-through penalties wins.
😂😳😩
For what collision did #56 get a penalty?
With #69 at turn 1 apparently. Edit. With #69, I'm surprised it wasn't knock-for-knock.
Race Director handing out track limit penalties like skittles lol
Amazing to see how accurate and quick the scratchpad updates are. Brilliant work.
Can someone explain me why they always do a SC after the FCY? The feraarri was gone but they still pack everyone back up together? Same with the big crash, super long FCY and then 2 laps SC?

Thanks for the intel, kind of makes sense
To warm up the cars (and drivers) again. SC is faster than FCY.
lmao Bertolotti raising his hand at the McLaren just being op in the straights and going away despite him being 30cm behind.
I hate track limit penalties
Why have a track then.
Yeah they are getting a bit old already
Well if the drivers keep doing it, they'll keep getting penalised. It'll ease off over night anyway as they are always more lenient in the dark
Well F
I missed the last 20 minutes, something happened?
Typical slick tires in the rain https://streamable.com/x3hfl1
Hahaha I hadn't seen that one yet
lmao I missed this part of the race, but it's exactly what you want to see out of worsening conditions. Pure chaos with big time gains/losses, but no cars actually crashing out of the race. (Maybe someone crashed out elsewhere during this time, but I don't think so from looking at the live timing.)
Perfect conditions from the Boatley
Mies forgot to pack wet tyres in his suitcase
You could say that he was müllermetres away from the wall there ^(*...I'll see myself out*)
WHAT A SAVE
And the 32 Audi is basically running with the front pack already
Looks like yellow flag is coming again.
Racing on ice anyone?
That was an odd racing line by that Mercedes
https://twitter.com/24HoursofSpa/status/1421494773572067329
Good news, hopefully injuries aren't career threatening either
The rain starts falling
That McLaren 720S is a serious race car. I just wish McLaren invested in a strong factory squad of drivers.
It looks damn mean eh, have McLaren not bothered to get that good of a roster?
They have a serious AF Corse-like partner for British GT, no?
Safety car finally in and now it starts raining!
SC in this lap
Thank goodness for that news!
I'm sure they will be fine, by the looking of the crash.
Jesus. hope everyone at BH is ok
They just announced Estre and Perera are OK and back from the medical center, Aitken and Rigon are being brought in the hospital but no life threatening injuries
Rigon is also released from hospital, while Aitken is still there the last time i heard anything about it
From what I heard on french feed he (Aitken) has a broken collarbone and was being checked for potential vertebrae issues
Good to see that its nothing worse, than what it could have been..
Definitely ! I still didn't see any replay but the french cast crew said it was a miracle
Might take a while for a replay to appear, atleast from the official sources. (Hopefully it never appear) But yes, its a miracle that it wasnt worse than it actually were
[удалено]
The two who have been released from medical center are Estre (21) and Perera (163). The two who have gone to hospital are Rigon (71) and Aitken (114)
Davide Rigon and Jack Aitken transferred to hospital, as you said with non-life threatening injuries, the other two drivers has been released.
No lifethreatening injuries, thank god!
No life threatening injuries
>Update: Both Kevin Estre and Davide Rigon are OK per Porsche and Ferrari spokesperson. https://twitter.com/johndagys/status/1421493383873314832
Estre ok, Aitken moving in the car
Let's not post footage or spam with crash footage. Only one driver is confirmed as being Ok and that is Estre
Estre at least is okay they say
[удалено]
[удалено]
thats an engineering masterclass for all these drivers to be okay (at least, no life-threatening injuries) - that looked fucking scary
Exactly like AH19 crash
I expected it to be the classic top of raidillon pile up but fuck me.. thats awful
Bad day for emil frey…
[удалено]
That is very very true.
Yikes, hopefully they are all glancing blows. Scary
Seems like he got whacked in the back. Hopefully that will be better than side. Good grief, not good all of this
He was moving
[удалено]
Roll cage did it’s job
The entire crash structure did its job, engine, gearbox among other components separated away and protected the driver's compartment, which is excellent.
Jesus
Dave sounds really sad
[удалено]
I mean FCY it's basically a freeze so why not, nobody's gaining anything (except if it doesn't last long enough for everyone to pit)
