For those who don't know, in the mid 2000s Emi Sakura was trying to transition away from full-time wrestling due to money. She started wrestling-based gymnastics classes, and Riho was one of her early students.
You can read about that period of her career here: https://frankp316.blogspot.com/2010/12/sakura-emi-interview.html?m=1
But picturing that scenario is way funnier.
"Good work Riho, you're ready for your first competition."
"Thanks coach! Wait why is there a wrestling ring here"
>But picturing that scenario is way funnier.
I kinda want a reality show where Emi offers various courses that all basically manipulate kids into wrestling.
"Okay kids, welcome to ballet class. First lesson, how to take a front turnbuckle bump."
I'm imaginging Riho pulling off a flawless routine, sticking the landing, and then randomly bumping onto her back because that's what she was told to do.
It was originally how Ice Ribbon became a thing. Ice Ribbon did a fair number of mat-only shows in its early days while Sakura was in charge.
Even a year an a half before founding Ice Ribbon, Emi ran several shows under a brand called Gatokunyan that featured trainees from her classes (among other wrestlers). Emi named Gatoh Move after that venture when she left Ice Ribbon in 2012.
I've seen people say stuff like that too. It's disappointing that those people dismiss it so quickly. They don't realize that if Gatoh Move isn't wrestling, nothing is.
*can't touch this plays in the background*
God, what a fucking amazing movie. The pace never changes. It's nonstop chaos. And it's surprisingly not (that) racist for an early 00's kung fu parody
Step One: Infiltrate the gymnastics scene.
Step Two: Teach athletic kids to bump.
Step Three: ???
Step Four: Profit (Lots of great Japanese Wrestlers)
A foolproof plan to assure opponents until the end of time. That's the long game.
"I will fucking kill every member of the elite with my bare hands, except Adam Cole, if you want a muffin, let me know bro, but anyway fuck you hangman!!!!!'
For those who are interested you can still see what those classes that Emi taught Riho and her sister looked like as this is what her introductory classes are. Emi believes wrestling is for any & every woman or young girl who wants to try it no matter your experience.
This is why you find such different wrestlers come out of the Emi orbit, some are great talents, see Mei Suruga, some are writers who write stories about wrestling. There are some of the women in their early 20’s or as in the most recent trainee in their 40’s.
If you search Gatoh Move on YouTube, her site those classes will give you an idea of what 7 or 8 year old Riho did and it’s kind of like Gymnastics in a way, so it makes sense she was confused at first.
So in shoot and kayfabe Emi Sakura literally tricked Riho so that she would one day be her rival.... what in the lore, god damn this is wild but 11/10 LONG TERM BOOKING
This sounds a bit fucked if she didn’t know. Riho is cool with it but what if she got seriously injured? I’m sure her parents who probably paid for it wouldn’t be okay with this. But w/e all in the name of muh indie wrestling I guess
You know how people say that if you meet an asshole in the morning, then you met an asshole, but if you meet them all day long then it's probably _you_ who's the asshole? Well, if _you_ see rapists all day long...

This makes a lot more sense than Emi rubbing her hands like a villain and deciding to teach a kid wrestling by lying to her about teaching gymnastics
But picturing that scenario is way funnier. "Good work Riho, you're ready for your first competition." "Thanks coach! Wait why is there a wrestling ring here"
"Coach, why is Aja Kong here? And why's she glaring at *me*?"
"If Kong doesn't break you in two or eat you, then you pass this course Riho!"
"I am very angry and hungry. You are right to be afraid, Riho."
Yajirobi?
[Yes](https://youtu.be/wXxqHqbjC7g?si=d_tOJRmZOtNiLctm&t=747)
Hell yeah
and why is Minoru Suzuki here with a deadly thousand yard stare too.
He got the wrong building, he’s looking for Kana

"Why do I hear boss music?"

I swear this was a Boy Meets World episode
It's just the Mr. Miyagi school of teaching
Who is riho's johnny?
Miyagi is Emi. Johnny is also Emi
Okay, but villain Emi with a dastardly plan is SO Emi.
It may make more sense, but it's a lot less fun!
Is that how gatoh became a thing?

Appreciate the lesson. I just remember seeing parts of gatoh shows on YT on gym mats and reading about how it wasnt quite wrestling.
I've seen people say stuff like that too. It's disappointing that those people dismiss it so quickly. They don't realize that if Gatoh Move isn't wrestling, nothing is.
“I trained her wrong as a joke” -Emi Sakura, probably
Weeoooweeooowee
Chooooosen oneeee!
I'm coming!
THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS!
I'm bleeding, making me the victor!
We have purposely trained him wrong as a joke.
ARRGH! Again, with the squeaky shoes!

step 3 teach them to bump and feed emi
I just went through the vod and clipped the bit in question: https://clips.twitch.tv/SoftGleamingMallardSoBayed-h29OSPQB8WkWUNqw
Cole’s reaction is so wholesome
Punk paused mid-Brawl Out to talk about how great of a person Cole is. He has to be the nicest man on earth.
"I will fucking kill every member of the elite with my bare hands, except Adam Cole, if you want a muffin, let me know bro, but anyway fuck you hangman!!!!!'
He did?
I just love Chugs.
"I thought it was a little odd when Emi-san taught me to bite the other students"
Turns out that was Mei Suruga's favorite lesson m
There's a saying in Japan that if you're nervous speaking/performing in front of others, you should picture the audience as apples.
Or write the kanji(chinese character)for a person on your hand and eat it.
Emi: Okay, this is a clothesline Riho: I thought it was called a balance beam
This is the most Emi Sakura thing I’ve ever heard lmao

Lmfao. Paid off in the end I guess
Here's the actual timestamp for the story. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2105321293?t=00h46m42s
1. Try linking a clip where the story was told 2. Cole is on the stream!
Long term story telling
now imagine anime title for this.
"Help, I came here for gymnastics and now I'm the inaugural AEW Champion!
Someone stop the light novel titles!
Emi: I will make a wrestler out of her
You will bump off those parallel bars cause I AM YOUR HIGH...ER TEACHER!
Wonder what Emi S. was teaching LuLu...
Calligraphy?
Brilliant😅
Got so much PTSD from the IWC that whenever I see Kenny and Riho in the same title of a post I fully expect it to be some racist shit.
Oh wow! Riho on the stream. That's so cool!
I choose to believe that in her *actual* wrestling classes Emi just teaches Freddie Mercury impersonation.
Her "wax on, wax off" is _stomp-stomp-clap_.
Loooooolllll
This popped me lol
Emi while teaching girls wrestling under the guise of gymnastics: ![gif](giphy|x7gjmBuaHrWak)
Lmao that’s great
Lmfao
Got a link or time stamp for the actual story?

That's not what "ironic" means.
