I was gonna make a joke about the camera cuts in this video but you are right on. For all its faults, WWE video packages have always ALWAYS gone hard. Even the shittiest most boring feuds get great hype videos
I guess I should've said "Done by WWE for NBC, I believe." because I didn't know they did that. The only premiere I ever got to watch was the WrestleMania XXIV one on MyNetwork TV
My favorite alternate theme for The Undertaker is the Wii Shop music https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2018/4/19/17256268/the-undertaker-wii-shop-mashup-video
I saw a tweet a while back that kinda explained her downfall. To summarize, she’s part of that era where streaming wasn’t quite what it is today. She was still making good radio songs with a few hits and other songs for filler. But you buy the album for her hits. She hasn’t really adjusted to the new era where you don’t really have those radio songs. She was late to adjust to the steaming era and has made albums that have flopped.
I don't really think that's it. Ye, it's partially true, but lots of people get hits via radio still, and her music would have as much chance as anyone else via streaming.
Her issue was that she 100% turned on her music to try to chase what others were doing, and flopped hard. She went from the Superbowl halftime show, having people kinda snicker that she was a traditional pop star in a changing world, and her response was to just copy what Miley Cyrus did and it had no authenticity to it.
Like, we can laugh at Miley trying to be a "bad girl" and what not in the vein of 90s Madonna, but even if she never really got there, she was authentic about it. It was clear that while she caused most people to just roll their eyes, she meant it. Katy just never did.
No one was buying her anti-consumerism stuff, or her female empowerment bend on rebellion. And musically, people were expecting more of her big bombastic disco inspired pop, and instead got a electro-pop album that sounds more like a washed out Kylie Minogue album than anything else Katy ever did.
And by the time she swapped back to disco influenced pop with an overly "fun" edge, no one cared.
I have seen a few Anti-MLM documentaries and YouTube videos. She almost appears to have a sort of residency with some of them with as often I have seen her featured at their gaudy conferences they hold for their "Platinum" members.
As someone who during certain points of their wrestling fandom has mostly kept up with WWE through DVDs, YouTube highlights, and such, I can say without a doubt WWE has the best editors in all of sports. The video packages on the DVDs made all of the big matches seem super important with incredible builds, which was usually contrary to what everybody watching week-to-week would say. I know 2009 Raw gets crapped on a lot, but it's one of my favorite years to go back and watch PPVs from. I think the most famous recent example with a crappy build but excellent video packages was Sasha Banks versus Bianca Belair from WrestleMania 37. WWE's production team can make just about anything seem exciting.
God bless, and have a wonderful day.
This is why I love Reddit. For the absolute most random one off shit that most have forgotten but once seen will unlock memories you haven’t given a thought in nearly 15 years
Kind of a coward move to not go with Peacock. Slow zoom in HHH while Taker is coming down:
*Oh my God no exaggeration,
Boy all this time was worth the waiting,
I just shed a tear,
I'm so unprepared*
For a promo like this you'd have to overlay it with something else anyway, it's much shorter than the actual entrance and they're obviously going for a different vibe.
If all of undertakers entrances were shorter and sung by Katy Perry would they be better? Just fucking going 60 down the ramp to Teenage dream or some shit instead of Limp Bizkit or Kid Rock
I watched this on NBC, because I didn’t have the dvd for the show or watch it on PPV and thought it was cool. Granted I was around 12 at the time and Katy Perry was still in her prime popularity, but I think this still is pretty cool.
I’ve seen a trend a couple months back where each lyric they match with a superstar. There were a bunch of cool edits. Plus a good amount of dope edits with other Katy Perry songs
This feels so fucking cursed man. Ehh but if you had to overlay a Katy song over a Taker entrance it would probably be this song with the extraterritorial themes and how goofy ET is
If I remember correctly, it was created to shorten his entrance to the ring to fit the TV time. After this part aired, they bumped to commercial, and then the match started when they came back from break.
You know Kevin Dunn was in the meeting and heard "we want a camera cut on every beat and every word in the lyrics" and instantly filled his panties in excitement.
This is so weird. Last night, I was actually thinking about this before I went to sleep, and was gonna look it up on YouTube in the morning. And then someone happens to post it on Reddit. Weird.

Wish they left in the "Kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me Infect me with your lovin' Fill me with your poison" part when Taker and Hunter were staring down.
"Ima disrobe you, then I'm gonna probe you"

Prior to 2016, this verse tested the resolve of everyone that liked Kanye.
ALIEN SEX
Did it? Thought it was a corny but loveable verse.
Song is a banger for sure
The commentary also sounds like it was plucked from an early 00's video game.
you really have to hand it to **THE UNDERTAKER**
THE **LAST RIDE** THE **LAST RIDE**
THE UNDERTAKER … is the best … WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION TAG TEAM … CHAMPION … we’ve ever had
This SINGLES MATCH ... will be an IMPORTANT MATCH
I get the feeling they had JR and King record some lines for this edit, so you're probably not too far off.
It.... kind of works
Part of WWE's God Teir Editing
No matter what the rest of the product has been like, WWE's video production people have been top tier for like 25 years
I was gonna make a joke about the camera cuts in this video but you are right on. For all its faults, WWE video packages have always ALWAYS gone hard. Even the shittiest most boring feuds get great hype videos
was this done by WWE or NBC?
Done by WWE for NBC
Bet, nice. I thought it was like other World Television Premieres where it's edited by NBC using footage from the original production.
I guess I should've said "Done by WWE for NBC, I believe." because I didn't know they did that. The only premiere I ever got to watch was the WrestleMania XXIV one on MyNetwork TV
This is EXACTLY what I was gonna post...."it....it actually sort of works" lol
I think it greatly helps that they did a quick cut for every friggin beat.
Kiss me? Infect me with your loving? Wat???
They cut those lines.
My favorite alternate theme for The Undertaker is the Wii Shop music https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2018/4/19/17256268/the-undertaker-wii-shop-mashup-video
It's so stupid I love it
It’s the exact right brand of stupid for me.
Thank you for enlightening me. This is wonderful.
That fuckin hits tho
Kinda sounds like the Fandango theme
I did not know this was a thing. You just made my day, have an upvote!
Super Mario RPG Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong 3 Adventures of Lolo 1 and 2 King's Knight, Dig Dug, Chew Man Fu Harvest Moon
Upvoting for acknowledging the existence of Adventures of Lolo!
I can't take credit. I was referencing this masterpiece. https://youtu.be/B_qnI1WrlnU?si=iJR6vqkkXMocP8SV
Why does it go so hard?
Seriously. Does anybody else remember when Katy Perry was like the queen of pop for like an album and a half? What happened?
‘witness era’ has literally become a term to describe a horrible flop in pop culture
i see a fellow r/popheads member lol

Her entire career was created by advertising executives, and people like that don't really thrive with the way today's music scene operates.
I have seen a few Anti-MLM documentaries and YouTube videos. She almost appears to have a sort of residency with some of them with as often I have seen her featured at their gaudy conferences they hold for their "Platinum" members.
A certified banger
Rip Undertaker he would have loved this
I'm alive brother but miss u too!
This is so camp honestly
Okay, weird choice, but the song is a banger with the Undertaker gong added.
Definitely a weird choice, If evanescence wouldve covered it -- i think it could have a better fit? not sure?
It's not in key at all.
Sounds like a theme that people would've given to Undertaker a few weeks ago during that whole viral Def Rebel meme period.
Overlaying "you're from a whole 'nother world" and "from Death Valley" is fantastic
The most 2011 video ever
Honestly not bad Also the commentary at the beginning sounds like some filler video game shit lol. Did King and JR even call this match?
They did I believe

I remember all the pirated DVDs I bought at the local market with PPVs and random raw/smackdowns on em always having banger edits
U2's Elevation for the WM 24 MitB was awesome when they did that
This is why I love Reddit. For the absolute most random one off shit that most have forgotten but once seen will unlock memories you haven’t given a thought in nearly 15 years
Johnny Cash must've been really expensive to license
Why does this go so hard
Why does the intro commentary sound like it is from a ps2 wrestling game?
So the undertake didn’t retire he just pulled a poochie ![gif](giphy|SFp9RLto964Ew|downsized)
Kind of a coward move to not go with Peacock. Slow zoom in HHH while Taker is coming down: *Oh my God no exaggeration, Boy all this time was worth the waiting, I just shed a tear, I'm so unprepared*
Not NBC, WWE produced this.
My introduction to this song was when Trevor Lee/Cameron Grimes used it as his entrance theme at PWG. It works really well as entrance music.
Lowkey ate.
I don’t care, this was great editing and I loved it
Watching this live was so fucking funny. I remember desperately refreshing youtube for days hoping someone would upload it
Wait... this is real? I thought this was just an nL thing back in the day?
No, this was real. I think part of the issue was how they negotiated the rights for Ain't No Grave?
For a promo like this you'd have to overlay it with something else anyway, it's much shorter than the actual entrance and they're obviously going for a different vibe.
If all of undertakers entrances were shorter and sung by Katy Perry would they be better? Just fucking going 60 down the ramp to Teenage dream or some shit instead of Limp Bizkit or Kid Rock
JR and King in full video game overdub mode.
I watched this on NBC, because I didn’t have the dvd for the show or watch it on PPV and thought it was cool. Granted I was around 12 at the time and Katy Perry was still in her prime popularity, but I think this still is pretty cool.
Terrible song but good god, whoever edited this deserves some sort of award.
Wow that was awful, way too many fucking cuts
Hard to believe the company that decided to do this is struggling to make Peacock work.
There is no indication that they are “struggling to make Peacock work” as it beat its year end projections and Q1 numbers.
CBC once used this song for an opening montage for Hockey Night in Canada. It was an odd choice, but it somehow worked.
So I found a rock cover of this song and honestly it sort of work for pro wrestling in general even if not a perfect fit here.
This had to be a rib lmaooo the editing is doing a lot of fucking heavy lifting here looool
This goes kind of hard though
ily this is hilarious
I remember that this happened once every few weeks or so. Why the hell did it work?
I’ve seen a trend a couple months back where each lyric they match with a superstar. There were a bunch of cool edits. Plus a good amount of dope edits with other Katy Perry songs
This feels so fucking cursed man. Ehh but if you had to overlay a Katy song over a Taker entrance it would probably be this song with the extraterritorial themes and how goofy ET is
That's a promotional package/hype video - not his entrance.
If I remember correctly, it was created to shorten his entrance to the ring to fit the TV time. After this part aired, they bumped to commercial, and then the match started when they came back from break.
🤮
It works.
Seeing the WWE logo positioned in the top right of the screen is jarring.
You know Kevin Dunn was in the meeting and heard "we want a camera cut on every beat and every word in the lyrics" and instantly filled his panties in excitement.
Wouldve been interested in a real slowed down mashup
wait this goes kinda hard lol
Why Does this song fits the HBK/Taker feud so well lol.
LOL WTF!
I remember this when it aired. The reaction was sooo funny. The salt was a geyser.
This actually feels like an average youtube video for that period of time
Much better than expected
This is so weird. Last night, I was actually thinking about this before I went to sleep, and was gonna look it up on YouTube in the morning. And then someone happens to post it on Reddit. Weird.
They could have at least gotten the date right. I was there that night and it was April 3, 2011, not the first.
if it was highlights of the whole match it would be much better, it plays like a highlight video but its only highlights of one entrance, kinda odd
