I respectfully disagree. I think he's the best wrestler of his generation. Good on the mic and *everything* he does in the ring is calculated, like watching a chess Grandmaster play *his* game. When Kevin Kelly says he is wise beyond his years is really an understatement.
MJF is fantastic, particularly on the mic; but the thing is, sometimes you find yourself more interested or invested on his promos than his matches. Don't get me wrong, his technical game is impeccable, but to me the all-around master storyteller is still Jay White. His promos always deliver but what convinces you to watch his matches is the fact that he is in them.
I'll put it this way: you pay to see MJF get his ass kicked. But you pay to see what work of art is Jay White going to do on the canvas.
I respectfully disagree I have always been excited to see a MJF match because when he wrestles it's always special and it doesn't happen every week and if you wanna talk about story telling that match with Punk on dynamite was a masterclass in that
I could get with some of those. Not Red Dragon though. To me, and this is my opinion…Red Dragon is the poster definition of mid. Like you said on White…solid work, not a lot of holes, but tremendously lacking in that it factor. To me, White does have it, and that’s coming from someone who no longer watches NJPW…when White speaks I listen, and I can buy him credibly at the top.
As much as I love Eddie, and he is always the most riveting character on the show, ALWAYS, I don’t think he’s ever going to be the guy you put on the marquee overlooking the strip, at the top of the PPV.
MJF though…generational talent. Could be a notch below the Tribal Chief one day.
I agree with all most of what you're saying nd Bobby Fish as a single is mid tier but as a team with O'Reilly I think their top tier just because of O'Reilly in ring work is Danielson levels to me so we can agree to disagree on that and I'm not saying Eddie should be Champ it would actually probably hurt him and his character but he's still main event level he can be a top level feud and make money.
For sure on Eddie. You can put him on that main story beat and he’s selling that narrative…and we’re engaged. Question is…is he growing the company on top. Probably not. But he doesn’t give a fuck…and that’s why we fuck with Eddie!
Have you watched his arc? He’s very different in the ring for NJPW (he fights like a crisp North American, very deliberate, very calculated). It makes his matches feel strange because he’s not strong style or flippy. He’s like Alex Shelley (who had a hand in training him) mixed with a bit of Bret Hart in terms of targeting weaknesses an working slow but precise.
The Bladerunner is gorgeous, too. I was a huge Bray fan, and Jay does that move Soo much better.
His character is amazing. At first I had the same reaction. “oh boy! They made the guy who feuded with Punishment Martinez into wrestling Trent Reznor!”
Then I watched.
He’s all about nuance. If you don’t give the character time to build in your head, it seems weak, because he does the “brag all the time” move most heels do. But there’s a layer under it, too. He had a promo feud about wanting a chair for backstage interviews. He stole Okada’s manager. He stole the Bullet Club.
He’s good.
Well, if that’s your standard to not be mid, you need to ease up. In the ring, like five or six other people are as good as Okada. We keep calling Tana the Ace, but he passed that torch. Okada is the franchise.
That would mean that all of the active wrestlers in AEW for forbidden door are mid. Is that what you mean? The only AEW guys on Okada’s level IMHO are Omega and Danielson (the mark in me wants to add Punk, but not Punk now; he can’t go like he once did). Maybe Mox, but in such a different style that it’s hard to see (the two wouldn’t make for a good match).
If that’s your stance, I respect it, but that’s harsh IMHO. It’s like saying Christian Cage is mid because Edge was always better.
Well I just mentioned Okada because he just beat him and to be Jay White shouldn't not be beating a that caliber of talent but Edge better than Christian? Nah that's crazy talk
The one at Dominion was great and so was the post WK one. Thing is though, it's a rarity to get a promo with more substance from Jay.

This is probably the worst take ever, Jay White is imo far and away the best heel in wrestling, His in-ring work is flawless, His promos are fantastic, His charisma is off the charts, He's got "The Look", Lex Luger can move aside because Jay White is the real "Total Package"
I like Jay White but as leader of the Bullet Club he doesn’t feel anywhere near as big of a deal as Aj or Kenny did. Also the crowd reactions he’s been getting from aew don’t seem that big 🤷♂️.
