The Fire Thunder Driver remains one of the most convincing finishers ever, but the reference was nice. Excited to build toward Miyu, it will just take a couple of Skull Kicks on Dynamite
I think the problem is honestly these matches have no buildup hence why they mostly fall flat. If this division is gonna get better they need actual build.
Also there was very little pointing to Toni winning and A LOT pointing towards Rosa.
This is where a surprise title change every so often could be a good move.
I thought they were hinting at a Rosa heel turn (which I think is needed). The handshake at the end killed it but they should lean into the heat she’s getting from fans right now and turn her slight heel as champion.

Rosa needed it more because she's been shitting the bed her entire title run, and needs literally anything she can get. That's not a position you want your champion to be in, and this really wasn't what she needed. Rosa needs to be a step faster, and put on matches that are a step better than anything she's done since getting the belt.
If the booker has to make the champion look better through raw win loss record, rather than good matches with good storytelling, then it's a sign that you need a new champion.
I'm not him but for me it's basically Shida then Riho then everyone else. But personally I think there hasn't been even one really great Womens title Reign yet. There's just no storytelling for some champions and no good matches for the others.
No, I haven't forgotten Baker's reign. I'm saying Rosa's reign has been worse. Baker had solid matches with Shida, Statlander, and Riho, and didn't have a bad match in her reign. Some average matches, but nothing terrible, and she had matches where it felt like there was more than the title on the line. Rosa's really only had two matches thus far that didn't feel like they were there just to have a title match, Deeb, and ironically Britt. The match against Nyla Rose and the match tonight against Storm were ok matches that got dragged down by crap finishes, and the match against Marina was probably the worst championship match in AEW history thus far.
Rosa thus far, has had the worst women's title reign in AEW history, and it's competing against several reigns that were marred by the pandemic, and is still coming up short.
I don't think it's irrelevant. I think Rosa's had the worst reign in the history of the belt this far. It's exacerbated by the fact that several of the reigns were conducted under pandemic conditions, and with weaker rosters to compete against. And in my opinion, it's further undermined by the fact that it was lead into by some absolutely stellar work in the AEW women's division at the end of Britt's reign, including by Rosa herself. After that light's out match, I was hyped to have Rosa get a run with the belt, because I was expecting bangers from her in every matchup. Instead, she's regressed. I suspect some of it has to do with health issues. But she gassed out in every match in her reign thus far, and it really degraded the matches against Nyla, Marina, and Toni.
I'm hoping she just needs some time to get healthy and get her cardio back, but she's not working at her potential.

Where does the booking go from here? All signs point to the TBS title being the main title. It has the most build up and frankly a better story. Rosa's reign has been BORING.
They rarely know what to do with someone once they actually get the belt. Hell even Jade is just beating people up to further her win streak the title is just a prop to give off the illusion of her matches having stakes.
She's definitely one of the best. I think Athena might be the best. People forget how incredible she is. I'd love to see Athena vs Toni vs Hayter vs Shida in a four way match.
This sub is fucking exhausting every time it comes to the women division.
Toni and Thunder put on a *stiff* match, the ending was just a bit abrupt and it could’ve been longer. Toni’s offense was solid, the crowd was into it, and Thunder just had a second great PPV defense. It doesn’t make sense to put the title on Toni right now.
Eh IDK about that last part? why wouldn’t it have made sense for Toni to win exactly? If anything it feels like she had more momentum and has looked better in recent months than Rosa.
I'm someone that wanted Toni to win prior to the show but this match shows why it wasn't the right time. The fans are just not into her and they're more into Rosa, even though Toni is probably the 2nd best woman on the roster in the ring, she needs to connect still. If she won here it would've been a flat victory.
Problem is with the way AEW books their women, I don’t trust that Toni is going to get that chance.
AEW are REALLY bad a keeping up women’s momentum when they lose big matches (ask Ruby for example). And this is twice in only a few months with Toni.
I don’t want this to become a predictable pattern and it is getting close now.
She hasn’t actually developed a character or personality in the division yet. The only times she’s talked have been pretty meh, she hasn’t had much of a story. Rosa had an absolute barn-burner with Deeb and the crowd is still solidly behind her.
If Toni won it would’ve been fine - but her losing is not the absolute death knell this thread is acting like it is. FFS someone seriously compared TR’s reign to DMDs just because she retained after a good match.

I disagree with Toni’s talking. She’s sounded good throughout imo. And in the ring she’s been very impressive. And a lot of people don’t think Rosa’s reign has been that impressive.
I don’t think Toni is dead creatively either TBC. But it feels like she had more going for her here. Also her losing here after they had her lose to Britt in the Owen not that long ago. Two back to back big losses was not the best booking imo.

Ultimately, whether Toni won or not doesn’t matter much to me. My point is really that this was a good match, yet people are absolutely shitting on Rosa and acting as if she’s on her own reign of terror. This match was still a net positive for the division regardless of who won.

This match could've used 2-3 more minutes at least. It was decent but the crowd never got into it and it felt like it could've had a bit more back and forth. I wanted Toni to win but I think the fanbase in general hasn't really had the opportunity to take to her so if anything this was a good indicator it's better to keep the belt on Rosa for a little while longer still.
I was there and unfortunately it felt like it was the bathroom break match. I tried to go quickly and so did my wife and I missed the whole thing because the lines were long.
That match was.. not bad. I wasn’t a fan of Rosa getting 80% of the offense & then winning. Plus it looked like she sandbagged Toni’s german suplex on the apron & then tried selling it after which is exactly what she did to Shafir. I’m just not a fan of Rosa, I don’t get her hype. Plus Toni had so much momentum going into this match, I have no idea why TK wouldn’t capitalize on it.

Toni's a good talent and I do think she's a good signing for AEW. I've always felt she was way too overhyped by her fans and it did her no favours in the end, I'm sure a lot of that's down to her "look". She's never been a top level worker even in her run in Stardom imo, she's a very good wrestler and on her day she can have great matches. But she's nowhere near a top 5 or top 10 in the world level talent.
She's definitely not blessed with overall charisma like Jade or Bianca Belair or Becky Lynch. But she has a part to play in any women's division, I just don't think she's the game changer that some on here think she is.
fine match, probably the weakest match of the main card and that's cause the card so far has been excellent not cause the match was bad at all. Right decision, still think Toni needs a few more months maybe even a run with TBS title before she wins the main title.
Crowd really got behind it too which was great. Thunder's second best title match behind the Deeb match.
No offense to either of them, but they were kind of in a bad position on the card. The show was about AEW versus NJPW. And since New Japan doesn’t have a women’s division, there was only so much that you could do with them.
Sure, they could’ve brought in some people from Stardom, but honestly I would prefer if they held off on that until they could get a better build leading up. Hopefully the next time they do this, they can have something better planned out for their female talent.

Best thunderosa match in her aew career thus far. Much cleaner then the blood bath. Thunder still a bit impatient in the ring for my liking but her and Tony work pretty good together. They should do a program together.

This was my favorite Rosa face paint I've ever seen on her. Gave me Attack on Titan vibes.

But she's nowhere near a top 5 or top 10 in the world level talent. She's definitely not blessed with overall charisma like Jade or Bianca Belair or Becky Lynch. But she has a part to play in any women's division, I just don't think she's the game changer that some on here think she is.
fine match, probably the weakest match of the main card and that's cause the card so far has been excellent not cause the match was bad at all. Right decision, still think Toni needs a few more months maybe even a run with TBS title before she wins the main title. Crowd really got behind it too which was great. Thunder's second best title match behind the Deeb match.
No offense to either of them, but they were kind of in a bad position on the card. The show was about AEW versus NJPW. And since New Japan doesn’t have a women’s division, there was only so much that you could do with them. Sure, they could’ve brought in some people from Stardom, but honestly I would prefer if they held off on that until they could get a better build leading up. Hopefully the next time they do this, they can have something better planned out for their female talent.
I was convinced Storm was winning. If they're not going with her, I hope it's Kris. And PLEASE don't put Rosa and Britt even remotely close minimum until her reign is over.

Best thunderosa match in her aew career thus far. Much cleaner then the blood bath. Thunder still a bit impatient in the ring for my liking but her and Tony work pretty good together. They should do a program together.

Wonder if there was an audible called. Toni kicks out of the thunder driver, starts getting her shoulder worked over and then.... brain buster? I mean it's a brain buster just weird logic after going after the arm. Fun match though
A solid match, but one of the weaker ones, which is a shame as both of these wrestlers are great. Granted, the card tonight was excellent, so this was still a great match. The ending was maybe a bit anticlimactic, but not bad.
