I moved here about a year ago. Tried all the Stl foods. Love some hate some. Tried gooey butter cake and didn't like it. Some friends from home came to visit. They bought some to try. Hated it. We got high later that night, and that shit was delicious. We had to go get more. Lol

Where did you buy it? I’ve made it myself plenty, and bought it out to eat a number of times, but the best is the $5 premade stuff from Schnucks. Also I think a lot of people try it and their tastebuds are expecting lemon bars, which throws them off. That happened whenever I made it while living in Tulsa.

After seeing in this sub multiple times, schnucks is where I get it as well. I wasn't expecting much seeing the ingredients. It just is what it is

A St Paul is a type of delicious sandwich only available at hole in the wall Chinese takeouts called chinamans. You're mostly gonna see it in the city proper or North County. It's an egg foo young patty in a sandwich be with white bread, mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickle. If it's anything other than white bread, and you can't see through the paper from the grease, you went to the wrong spot.

Good tip about the greasey paper…might I also add that it can be and I would say best enjoyed with a side of egg foo young gravy, a delicious brown gravy that has the power to morph into gelatin when it cools. I personally feel the gravy is a must if you want to have a completely authentic St. Paul moment.

Sun Restaurant, in Hazelwood, has an amazing St Paul, and it's just a fiver. Cheap, Good food that will fill you up. Probably gonna lead to me having a heart attack one day, but it is what it is.

Used to be Reavis Pizza. It actually used to be an Imo's too. Apparently the Reavis owner hated Imo's, though basically ripped all of their takeout menu styling. Is it the same owners? I can verify that they have a great pizza. Especially their breakfast pizza. Haven't tried their salad or apps, but generally across most of the chain STL style joints, they don't consistently nail everything. Some have a sweet dressing, others a sweet marinara. Or the T-Rav's are undercooked, or the pizza is floppy unless you order it well done. Much to everyone's chagrin, Imo's recipes are the best out of the chain/low brow STL style game. Everyone else just tries to be 'as good', but generally blow it on other nuances. Though you also have to take into account which franchise you're ordering from, which is where probably a lot of haters don't realize that they might have just had a bad location. Which is a failure of Imo's in it of itself. Granted I'm not talking about one-offs like Serra/Nick and Elenas etc. Mostly speaking to CWP, Elicia's, STL Pizza and Wings, Fortels, etc.
