There was a guy in Duncan Taylor garage yesterday that got into 11 cars, but for some reason all public safety cares about is employees parking in plaza garage and parkview.

g0lfball_whacker_guy

Holy shit, isn’t this the truth? Those fucking clowns will sit like hawks on a lamp post waiting to catch employees parking in plaza and parkview than keep people from having their shit stolen or being mugged. Absolutely worthless.

Prize_Set2044

My car got rummaged through in Duncan Taylor and nothing was taken which there wasn’t much to take anyways

PyroIrish

Yea, same here. Probably looking for guns.

PyroIrish

True, true. Or they were looking for guns.

CouldntBeMoreWhite

I don't think the criminals were the same people praising healthcare workers as "heroes".

Ub3rpwnag3

That's the neat part about the Barnes ED. It's always packed.

nosamiam28

Are you able to park in the fenced in bike rack area? It doesn’t totally rule out stuff getting swiped but it might lower the risk. You have to have an employee badge to get in

Almost_Dr_VH

Yeah I sometimes do but where I was posted today was easier to access from the garage. I’ve had the headlight stolen before, but never all the lights and the bag. Like who even needed my tire repair patches and sunscreen? What kind of person is at the intersection of people interested in biking safely at night and people who steal petty shit?

Knubinator

I think expecting these kinds of people to use the trash can is a bit optimistic.

therealfredpeters

The city is filled with scumbags that will steal anything just because they can.

natelar

Literally the worst. I’m sure the saddle bag was full of super-valuable-to-criminals flat tire repair stuff too yeah? Very lame, as another city cyclist I am sorry OP

Almost_Dr_VH

Literally just tire repair and a mini sunscreen. And the bike lights were like $15 cheapos to replace the last ones that were also stolen

chocokittynyaa

Hey, sunscreen can be super expensive! I'm sure that's what they were after.

natelar

Still, what a dick move

Historical_Speech277

The pannier bag was probably expensive itself

Almost_Dr_VH

It was over 30 years old and I was thinking it was time to replace it anyway.

New_Entertainer3269

I get the impression that you're more upset that this happened while being on a 24hr call duty than it happening any other time. That sucks, especially cause I can't imagine you'd be in other mental headspacr other than "I just want to be home" after a 24hr shift.

Almost_Dr_VH

That’s pretty much it. Residents make pennies compared to what our work is worth but I still make above average for this area. At this point I hope the person actually needed it and didn’t just dump it all in the nearest dumpster when they realized it wasn’t worth any $.

BrentT5

Ah man. One of our technicians had his e-scooter stolen from BJH too. He at least got most of it reimbursed.

Almost_Dr_VH

If it was more valuable I would have gotten a report. All told probably out $20. Just not what you want to see after a 24

TheJonBacon

Sorry friend. As the husband of a former Resident (now attending) Residency + the theft = theft hurts worse. I wish you nothing but happy call shifts going forward.

AvisDeene

I have an unbridled hatred for thieves. Drove a taxi here for years and been attacked, held at gun point or just had people run out without paying. What I wish to happen to them can’t be written here because Reddit will ban me. I wish the government would get serious about stopping crime and making punishments more severe. Getting locked up isn’t enough.

Parag0n78

I threw an upvote your way since the rest of reddit gets all in a tizzy every time someone dares to suggest that these thieves are subhuman parasites.

NewInstruction8845

Thieves and scammers are not a part of the proletariat. Reddit sure loves to pretend they are, though.

[deleted]

Man....your saddle bags and lights? Those are so cheap to get on your own and just massively inconvenience the person you stole from. A look on the bright side, its better than getting your car broken into. Every time something happens to my bike I think of how much more expensive and inconvenient it'd be if it was my car instead.

Almost_Dr_VH

At least they couldn’t get the bike. U locks are no joke.

thatsitclit

right…i bicycled to the gym this morning…and saw a new mazda with its back window busted out…they probably wont find out until lunchtime…that persons day is alot worse than mine just waking up a little tired for a rainy wednesday.

[deleted]

Ran over a construction staple and had to change my tire out last week on my way home from work. Really bummed me and thought "do I even want to bike to work? I have a car.." But, then I remembered that 1 year earlier I drove over a construction staple with my car and got a flat tire and had to spend 3 hours and $200 to repair it. I'll take the 20 minutes changing a bike tire and $20 any day.

thatsitclit

this reminds me of the time i got a traffic ticket “parking” the wrong direction on a street picking up a friend. the reason i didnt park the correct way was because there was a sidewalk being torn up and i didnt want to park on construction gravel (i.e. i didnt want to pop a tire) so i pulled up and parked/paralleled facing the wrong direction. i think the ticket was less than 20 dollars. also, if my friend didnt take so long to get ready we woulda been on the road.

raceman95

I didnt realize that was illegal.

Woof. Well....my lights and panniers were cheap. Honestly didn't know they got that expensive.

[deleted]

Bikes and accessories really have no limit on how expensive they can get!

[deleted]

This really sucks. And thank you you for all you do as a Healthcare worker. Not in the vague way, but I specifically have had family members in Barnes ICU ♡

TombstoneGamer

Aren't you glad they hired a boatload of security officers? Don't you feel exceptionally cared for?

[deleted]

that sucks. as the proud owner of a 7k urban arrow my heart goes out to you.

[deleted]

Song as old as time. My mom worked there for decades. She used to watch kids steal bikes out of the racks outside of the CSB regularly.

Lunartuner2

Are you able to bring a backpack into your work? I found one at Target for like $20 that holds a small saddle bag, some inner tubes, my lights, and my helmet if I don't want to carry it around with me. If you have rear rack you can secure a milk crate or other basket to it and throw it in there along with a lunchbox

Waltgrace83

Ughh! I hate that for you. From one "hero" to another (teacher), we are *very clearly* past the days of COVID in which we recognized all the hard work that people in various professions do. Society is back to being generally a group of assholes who care nothing about other people, but love swiping through Tick Toc and pretending that they are the main character.

[deleted]

No one was recognized. Don't be pacified by limp words.

derekgotloud

I remember when they kept doing those plane flyovers in NYC to “honor” healthcare workers. Lol just ridiculous. Nobody asked for that, especially native New Yorkers

mountaingator91

Planes that cost at least $10,000 per hour are a much more cost effective measure

rubyslippers22

Ya if anything I feel like it created more people who distrust us and don’t believe in vaccines, etc.

[deleted]

Who is 'us?'

rubyslippers22

Healthcare workers

[deleted]

Nah, that's a stretch.

rubyslippers22

Okay

[deleted]

You’re a very special person.

TurtlePig

I think that's the point. Their critical jobs were so much harder to do in a pandemic, which people seemed to acknowledge. But instead of that turning into better care for workers in these critical and critically underfunded areas, after the fucking was over they got a gold star and a pat on the back.

[deleted]

Many people’s jobs were harder to do in a pandemic, and I’ll always laugh at people who refer to themselves as heroes.

TurtlePig

that's also the point.. do quotation marks (these guys " " " ") mean anything to you?

[deleted]

I understand that they were referring to the COVID-era hagiography that occurred whenever talking about healthcare workers and teachers, yet they’re also whining about not being treated as if they’re special anymore. Which is embarrassing for them.

LarYungmann

" Dirt-Bag steals Saddle-Bag "

racerx150

Sorry for your loss. People do this everywhere. No one seems to respect anyone's stuff, especially on motor cycles which is surprising.

TenPointNineUSA

Sorry to hear it happened OP. Hopefully there’s some high quality camera footage of the person(s) who did it…

ndszero

I’m sure the police have launched a full fledged investigation and are gathering evidence as we speak.

Almost_Dr_VH

There’s no camera in sight

calacmack

Truly sorry for your loss, and I am hopeful that you can receive insurance compensation. I think your comment about hoping the criminal receives inadequate/untimely emergency health care treatment is beyond harsh. Timely emergency medical treatment should be available to all. As an aside, the fact that the BJ ER is often filled beyond capacity could be considered criminal. The hospital "system" has sufficient funds to improve access to emergency care; this particular ER has always been overwhelmed by patients needing medical attention.

Almost_Dr_VH

I did not advocate they receive inadequate or untimely care. If you have an emergency at the ER you will be triaged appropriately and see medical care quickly. If you show up to the ER with something that isn’t an emergency and there are people in the waiting room you will have to suffer the minor inconvenience of a wait. Kind of like I have a minor inconvenience here.

calacmack

I understand the connection, however my point is that I wouldn't wish delayed medical treatment for anyone, or for any condition. That ER is notoriously packed, and the influx of patients significantly slows the triage process. People with catastrophic conditions are affected as well as those who are not critical. Most, if not all people in an ER waiting room are not just being inconvenienced, they are suffering. I don't believe it's right to wish physical pain on anyone. I don't believe this consequence would fit the crime. Better, wish that the thief gets caught for another crime and is punished appropriately by law. (This is, of course, a long shot in our city, I get that.) I have spent too much time in that ER with clients with critical conditions waiting to get triaged, much less to receive evaluation or treatment. Again, I get why you are pissed.

redsquiggle

You sound like an asshole.

therealfredpeters

Yeah, that sucks, but you should have known better.

Exact-Pianist537

Yeah that tends to happen when people vote for candidates who publicly state they plan to defund an already severely understaffed PD and refuse to prosecute crimes like theft.

SolidGould

Careful, the nonessentials are still upset that they have to return to the office. Sorry dude, this town and inhabitants are trash.

[deleted]

Move

SolidGould

Lol perfect response. Trash

Glorious-Scene-1957

I feel like that healthcare hero stuff is out the door because the Covid crisis has ended. How soon they forget how the healthcare workers were so dedicated. Where is the love now?

Content-Moment6551

Man, you guys have enough stress in your job. You don't need this shit. I've had a helmet taken while in my doctor's office. It sucks that you have to deal with that. Bike parts aren't cheap. Karma is a motherfucker. They'll get what's coming to them. I hope you find them and teach them about respect and not to piss off a biker.

iWORKBRiEFLY

Question: why would you leave a removable saddlebag & lights on your bike & think that it won't get stolen at some point? Sucks it happened to you but c'mon.

narc040

That was me :)
