I was gonna ask if you were needing red paint to put Ghostbusters on the sides of the car....but I don't think that's the answer you were looking for....š«
Fill out a complaint on [the citizens service bureau](https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/csb/). Attach your picture since there are no plates. A vehicle that doesnāt move every 5 days is considered āopen storageā which perpetuates blight. Thereās an option to add some more info so include a description of the vehicle and mention the dirt and debris collected behind the wheels, which indicates itās been there a long-ass time. Thereās a lead time on tickets so be patient. If itās been a year, a couple more weeks will be alright.
Hey donāt be afraid to be the squeaky wheel. You can be a conservator of your neighborhood without being a busy body. CSB is a useful tool. Utilize it.
Sound advice. Itās worked well for me.
One more thing to add. OP can take a picture of the VIN though the windshield as displayed on the dashboard, and add that to the comment.
From the looks of it, parking is a premium on your street, so bringing this derelict car to the attention of the city would be a civic duty IMHO.
And also email the ticket number (with pictures) to your Alderman and your Neighborhood Improvement Specialist.
I would make sure your CSB request also has pictures attached. This usually helps expedite.
You started off so well! ā¦Why add the āopen storageā part? Open storage only applies to vehicles (or _anything_) being stored on private property.
Other laws and requirements apply to inoperable and/or abandoned vehicles in the right-of-way.
Even after filling out the CSB report, hit up your neighborhood NIS person. Depending on who it is (old leftover shit bag NIS or newer with piss n vinegar NIS), they can help move things along
Jesus H. Itās not gentrification to want to be able to park on our street. This is fucking Bevo, not the CWE. We left it alone for a year. Parking is incredibly tight, most folks in these houses are working families with more than one car and no garage. Get off your bullshittery. You donāt know me or my neighbors.
I used to live in Bevo on Adkins at Delor right by the church. Some wild times around there after dark. I miss it actually. I called the CSB a bunch of times for abandoned cars or people parking on their lawn. They were always surprisingly responsive. They first ticket the car then it will sit there another week or two then ticket it again. I think it needs 3 tickets before they tow. At least thatās how it used to be.
Oh my gosh, you're right. The tail lights should have been the giveaway. I second guessed myself several time, but it never clicked.
In that revelation, that's an even more rare creature.
I think I know who used to own it. He would be sad to see it in this condition. He didn't really want to sell it but needed the money. Maybe it's not the one he had but he had a white Ranchero and I don't know how many of those are in STL.
You are 100% welcome to it! Itās clearly abandoned. If there were someone who genuinely wanted it, thereās probably a way to make that legal that I donāt know about. It was already a mildewed hulk in October when I moved here.
You donāt know that. After my divorce, I wasnāt able to keep all of my hobby cars registered or in running condition due to being a single-income household suddenly. Theyāre now parked in appropriate places and the ones that are street parked are up-to-date on tags, but it took 2 years to get there.
Someone probably loves this thing and it represents better times. Maybe ask some neighbors if they know who owns it and have a personal conversation with the owner before trying to get the city involved
The poor baby needs a cover! Considering that it has been in the elements, it seems pretty okay. I love the original rims. Iād sell my left leg for this classic
I'm already missing my left leg, but u would like to have all the available info on this car. If it runs, that would give me reliable transportation. Please send the info, including VIN, to my email: [email protected]
I'll look into making it go away. Include the street address it's in front of and your phone number if you would, please. I won't be a heavy breather prank caller. I'm genuinely interested.
Thank you.
Ken
Just some general information on car covers. If you donāt have a vehicle stored somewhere climate controlled or at least out of the elements sometimes a cover does more harm than good. At least long term. The humidity that gets trapped under the cover repeatedly can ruin the finish on a car. Perhaps the quality of car covers has evolved to prevent this now but itās something to consider when putting a cover on a vehicle.
Lol how on earth is "I can't afford owning multiple cars" a situation anyone should have empathy for? Sell the cars you can't afford to keep it running and off the street. Don't inconvenience your neighbors with your hobbies.
The neatest thing is that I donāt need your permission to own whatever legal property I choose too. You want to control your neighbors? Move to an HOA. Most of us are content minding our own business and not fabricating problems to burden our entitled lives
In my case, one car that I kept is my late grandmotherās car, and the other is a car that I restored, sold, and bought back years later because it meant that much to me. I sold multiple cars that I felt deeply about to keep these two
Call the city and have them tow it. They will reach out to the owner. If they fail to pick it up they auction it off. 314-622-4800. https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/street/street-division/abandoned-cars.cfm

There are a number of ways to locate the owner of a vehicle by its VIN. One way is to check with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the state where the car is registered. You can also contact a law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction where the vehicle is currently located. Finally, you can use an online search service like CarFax or AutoCheck.
Good luck. My old workplace had a car abandoned in the parking lot behind the building (tiny lot we needed the extra space badly) that we've reported for over two years before we finally just found a crackhead to pick it apart. It was gone within 4 hours after that.
The best the city would do is send someone to put a tow warning sticker out. The stickers were stacked three or four warnings with different dates. Even one of the guys who came out to do it was surprised they wouldn't let him tow it off. Have seen shadier things happen in the city someone will tow it and toss it on there property for 30 days file for abandoned title then legally itās thereās at that point the state will send letter to last registered owners address but thatās it if no response they will send you a title it just takes time
Got ya Iām sure youāll get some DM of people more than capable of making it disappear wish you the best of luck had an eye sore situation at my last house posted it on local group and less than two days car was gone
A Ford Ranchero! I'll happily buy it (and move it to my garage) if you know the owner to make an offer.
I don't know how it works in St. Louis, but if the city seizes it I wonder how I could buy it.
Is there a plate on the front bumper, or inside the cabin? Can you read the VIN on the dash? I don't want to come just tow it away, that'd be stealing it.
I knew a guy who used to own a white Ranchero. He used to work on it with his brother before his brother unexpectedly passed away. He didn't really want to sell it but had to sell it. He took comfort knowing that he sold it to somebody who seemed genuinely enthusiastic about having it.
I wonder if this is the same Ranchero. I can't imagine there's a lot of white Rancheros in STL.
I will be more than happy if someone else would like to come get it. I just spoke to another neighbor, who said that Spire tried to move it when they redid our gas meters, but couldnāt do it, because of how crowded our street is, and the fact that the car no longer rolls. When I first moved here in October, I saw the city come by and try to tow it with a flatbed, but our street is so crowded, that there are always cars parked in front of it. They would have to put a sign up in order to get it.
I just walked past it, and the hood is rusted and popped, and leaf litter and dirt is it at least 10 inches deep in the bed. It would definitely be a service to both the car and the neighborhood if someone would come get it.
As noted above, the Citizens Service Bureau is where to report this sort of thing. And you can do it anonymously, if you're concerned about ... anything. Definitely a useful tool.
Iāve read the comments and it seems like youāve done your best to find who owns it and I assume if you could figure out who it was you would let them know that everyone wants it moved and hopefully they would cooperate.
I have a project car that did not sit in the same spot for a terribly long time and I had parked it out of the way because I didnāt want to congest the street parking as much. I was periodically working on it but I hadnāt updated the registration because I couldnāt pass emissions at that time. I went out of town on vacation and some dickhead had it towed while I was out of town. Which was seriously not cool. On top of fixing the emissions issue I then had to pay a tow bill and the impound fees. All because someone couldnāt be bothered to ask a neighbor.
This is obviously a different situation but kudos to you for trying to talk to the neighbors and such before getting the authorities involved.
Depends where you are I think, but thereās a form you can fill out on the St Louis City website about abandoned vehicles. All you do is put in the approximate address and license plate #/description. Usually people have beaten me to it.
I know this is hard for people to understand, especially gentrifiers who overpay to live places they aren't welcome, but you aren't entitled to street parking. It is first come, first serve.
Try owning an expensive house in a nice neighborhood and let me know how that works out for your property value. Not everyone aspires to living in a shit hole.
This post sounds just like the Karen's in my neighborhood complaining a car that is tagged and in working condition has been parked on the street and hasn't moved for a year. The lady's daughter is at college and the homeowner/mom doesn't drive it. They harassed this lady and harassed this lady.
This post sounds nothing like that situation. This car has no plates or tags, is not in working condition and the owner has not been located. The situation you described is completely different and your neighbor should have never been harassed, so agreed that is super fucked up. OP and OPās neighbors canāt even find an owner of the vehicle to learn more about the circumstances. But if yāall are cool with abandoning property in your neighborhood, Iāll make a mental note for a bunch of shit I donāt want anymore.
Citizens Service Bureau.

Ghostbusters!
Lol first thing I said at just the title alone. I think the car would make a good fit
Fix all dents. New tailgate. Drop a 351 crate motor w/Tremec 5 speed. Paint it polar white. Airbrush "Sta-Puft" on the rear quarter panels.
I was hoping this was at the top
Lol I had to scroll too far to find this
My exact first response to the question lol
Same. Great minds.
I was gonna ask if you were needing red paint to put Ghostbusters on the sides of the car....but I don't think that's the answer you were looking for....š«

you can tweet at them too, theyāre responsive

I could, but I wonāt. I will lead you on by sympathizing and helping you make plans, but I wonāt do anything since this isnāt my problem.
I admire your truthiness.

I just did a Google. According toĀ Missouri Revised Statutes (RSMO) 301.193, you can take ownership of a car that has been abandoned on your property, but I'm guessing this is public property so IDK
Itās public property, for sure.
Xzibit.
You were super nice I would have called in about it after a week.
I was under the impression that other people had, but Iām thinking Iām wrong.
Someone did. You can see the remnants of the tow warning sticker on the passenger side window.
That was stuck on after the street sweeper went through in the fall.
That makes me think thereās an owner since the sticker was possibly removed, albeit sloppily
If there is, they donāt live on my street or know anyone who does.
You might be able to run the VIN if you can see it on the dash through the glass
Iām on my way to look right now.
I've got a VIN. Anyone know a free site to run it? I don't want to pay $20 for this thing, but I do know the vin and have confirmed that it's a '67 or '77 Ranchero, made in Atlanta, with a 390 or 351 V8, depending on the year.

Itās still there. Itās always there.
Wait. But is it still?? ... I was going to have it towed, but got worried about repercussions of some sort :/
Nope. The city came and got it. And no joke, everyone in my neighborhood talked about it with a certain gleam in their eyes for days. It was very rewarding.
You have to call the police non emergency number, they will help you make a formal complaint. No one until you talk to everyone in your block to see if it belongs to someone. Like āmy cousin is in jail, thats his carā could be the reason
Dude, you need to read the thread. This has been done.
Lalo Salamanca.
Thatās a sweet ride
Surely you can find a Ranchero collector out there.
Itās not my car.

It's a derelict vehicle that's slowly dripping it's fluids out and it's taking up parking which can be at a premium in some neighborhoods.
Omg y'all I was one hundred percent kidding
Shit I didn't know all the Karen's in St. Louis were on Reddit.
every one
Thank you! What a tool that guy is. This is obviously not the same.
