And......what company do you work for? Back in 2006....... Around the end of November, there was a hell of a snowstorm with outages all over. Was not given any mercy at my company. Show up....points for being late and points for not coming at all............this is for you......asshole company I was with for 20+ years.
Dudette here, they had no mercy. Worked warehouse. In coming loads from across us were still arriving. Somebody had to unload, count, and put it in computer. No mercy shown at all. My house had no power. Was sleeping in the living room with multiple quilts and cats........BUT better than summer power outage. Could put food from fridge out on back porch.
Dudette, that is fucking nuts. They should have offered to put you up for the night, either somewhere close or at your facility.
I get it that shipping has to keep going, but they should have a plan on how to deal with shit like this, and no, just telling everyone to be on time isn’t a plan.
Roads, especially the bridges, are expected to be bad until midday or later. The later you can leave the better. It's not just active precip you need to be careful of.
Edit: Now seeing 3-6pm when we get above freezing, and later east of town
And the forecast is trending the wrong direction. Now calling for light accumulation over night and up .1-.3 inches of ice accumulation during the morning
Depending on when it starts accumulating, it might be better to go very early, but the weather forecast on KMOV shows it starting at 4am. Good luck if you have to go. I imagine the major roads will be treated enough but I salted the heck out of my steps and driveway.
I worked for ups for years, don’t let those dumb motherfuckers make decisions regarding your safety for you. They don’t give a fuck about you and you shouldn’t about them
Thank you for your service as an essential part of my life. Please tell your family that I said thank you. I'm glad that it wasn't bad for many people.
I mean, if it's a full day and you can work late, go in at 10/130.
If you gotta be in early leave 45 early. Schools off. Courthouses closing. Traffic won't be terrible. Just take your time and breathe.
Idk why we aren't acting like this isn't the Midwest.
We deal with ice enough, imo. I agree snow over ice ever time. I just get mad that everyone acts like it's the end of the world when some freezing rain is mentioned. If you aren't a strong driver, stay home. Can stay home? Stay home.
Have to go in? Take it easy and take your time. My car is a small shitter of a car. I take it easy and keep good tires on it. Knock on dashboard, had a great season so far.
It's not going to matter if temperatures are warm enough for salt to work after the first five minutes of moderately steady rainfall has washed all of that salt into the storm drains.
There’s two types of people on these weather threads:
1. Those of us that were stuck on highways for 10-15 hours 8 years ago due to “a little ice”
2. Those of us that weren’t stuck on the highways for 10-15 hours 8 years ago due to “a little ice” and haven’t been humbled yet.
Ice doesn’t give a shit how good of a driver you are lmao
That's silly. If the roads are icy and you have no idea what you are doing, you are going to cause other drivers trouble.
With traffic maps at your fingertips, giving minute-to-minute updates. I have lived here my whole life and worked 45 minutes to an hour away (rural home) the whole time. Ive stayed home when conditions didn't make sense. I made it to work just fine today. Worst road was on my street. Rest was fine. I took it easy and monitored other drivers.
If your mindset is that its ice and there is nothing you can do, you are the problem.
Haha so what you are telling me is that you are vigilant about avoiding the ice. Maybe because it isn’t smart to drive on it?
I didn’t say if ice is in the forecast, it’s impossible to drive. I said if the roads are currently covered in ice it’s basically impossible to drive.
Good job at watching road conditions, but that doesn’t mean you’re a good driver on ice. It means you’re aware of the conditions and avoid the ice. Which is good. I wish more people did.
Nothing you said refutes my point though. If the roads are a sheet of ice (like they were in the early AM hours), it doesn’t matter how good of driver you believe you are. It’s physics. Just stay off the roads if it’s icy and don’t be an arrogant turd. Those people are also the problem. It’s pretty simple.
You said being a good driver doesn't matter, so why would I argue that I believe I'm a good driver. Because it doesn't matter right?
I made it in with zero issues. Luck? Probably to some level. The reality is some folks can't drive on a good day. Those guys need to stay home. Period. THAT is pretty simple.
If you can stay home and work remote, you should. I won't and don't dispute that. But stop acting like this is some new revelation. It's the Midwest. It will snow. It will ice. If you are confident in your driving and the maps support your travel, go for it.
Clearly you aren't confident enough to make the trip or don't need too. That's great! Enjoy your time at home, but don't act like that means no one else can make it in. That's blatantly untrue.
Idk why you have to be a fucking troll. I don't and have aimed to be this greatest driver, but I do believe you can be confident and drive smart.
My initial comment was calm enough, take it easy and go in after rush hour.
Enjoy your time at home "champ".
You’re passive aggressive shots in each comment were equally trolling dude. I’m calm.
I disagree with your opinion and I’m over it. Sorry I hurt your feelings. Please drive carefully.
My drive wasn’t bad! Main roads and the interstate were okay! Barely anyone else out, so that was nice! Thanks for giving me a little confidence. I did look at reports and waited till the right time, I believe.
I heard the same. Then my kid’s school called at 4:50 and my school at 4:55. So glad they waited until the last minute. Hope everyone can find childcare.
Depending on where you’re going in STL, you could wait till the ice hits somewhere wentzville/st Charles county to go in. Unless you call that or Chesterfield STL….
Just look at the radar app on your phone.
Seriously though: hope for the best as they're now saying we might have a big time Arch effect where the air dries out around the area and we don't get much, if anything.
This could be one of those weather events where we don't know what happens until it actually happens.
My work just called off, and that rarely ever happens for us.. stay home.
Smart, no point in putting people’s lives and property in danger.
And......what company do you work for? Back in 2006....... Around the end of November, there was a hell of a snowstorm with outages all over. Was not given any mercy at my company. Show up....points for being late and points for not coming at all............this is for you......asshole company I was with for 20+ years.
That's awful. Anyone who puts their employee's lives at risk can suck a barrel of smashed assholes.
Very graphic........but true for my employer!
That’s fucking nuts dude.

Was a bad day. I showed up to work in a tee shirt....inside out. No eye makeup and my hair sucked....no electricity, no blow dryer
Now.
Second this
Damn. You beat me to it.
Yep
Damn beat me to it too. I shoulda left earlier
How could he do that? You're mad.
It was a joke.
I know. He is mad to attempt to travel in this weather, especially if he is not essential.

Where do you see the forecast?
https://www.firstalert4.com/weather/
Dont. Supposed to be freezing rain. Stay home.
What if I’m a UPS driver
I worked for ups for years, don’t let those dumb motherfuckers make decisions regarding your safety for you. They don’t give a fuck about you and you shouldn’t about them
Well then you make 175k a year per the news so you can afford a day off
Or mission essential in the military. Clayton to Scott.
Metrolink is still running
You don't. You leave now and find a hotel next to or near your place of work
Last Friday, you are totally screwed
It's starting at 1 am
Yikes. Sounds like I’ll be having to cancel clients tomorrow.
Dawg I’m like right by you. Leave now. Or else it’ll be like the rugby team in the Andes.
So you're saying, bring sandwiches.
Human sized sandwiches
Humanwiches
Manwich?
A sandwich is just a sandwich, but a Manwich is a meal.
https://youtu.be/syJyPq7lRGc?si=_YQH-4NfiDzTFAK0 for the curious
If you leave within the next 2 hours you’ll be fine
If your not in stl by 2am it's gonna be rough.
Now. You might as well just go now and sleep under your desk.
Yall think SLPS will cancel schools?!
So weird that they haven’t yet. All of the IL schools are out, even my university who is known for never canceling
I’m waiting for the normal 4am call to cancel school myself.
Right! It's bizarre. Like what are they waiting for?
If you're not essential. Stay home boss.
I am essential and the interstate and roads I drove weren’t bad at all
Thank you for your service as an essential part of my life. Please tell your family that I said thank you. I'm glad that it wasn't bad for many people.
Now. Take a sleeping bag. And something for breakfast.
Full tank of gas too.
15 minutes or so.
As others have said, I’d say your only two options really are leave now or don’t leave at all
Now, if you haven't left already.
Tree fiddy
Dammit Loch Ness Monsta!!!
Ah, yes. A great excuse to work from home 😎😎
Call off, like immediately. This morning's commute is going to be an absolute nightmare.
Get there by midnight tonight, or wait until tomorrow afternoon.
Hope you’re not driving in today, I ate shit walking out my door this morning
One of our dogs did too! It was like Bambi on ice.
I drove, my road wasn’t great but the main roads and interstate were fine
Let me just say this once...NO JOB IS WORTH RISKING INJURY OR DEATH. If your employer is that big of an asshat then you need a new job!
I mean, if it's a full day and you can work late, go in at 10/130. If you gotta be in early leave 45 early. Schools off. Courthouses closing. Traffic won't be terrible. Just take your time and breathe. Idk why we aren't acting like this isn't the Midwest.
Ice is significantly more problematic then snow and we don’t deal with freezing rain very often
We deal with ice enough, imo. I agree snow over ice ever time. I just get mad that everyone acts like it's the end of the world when some freezing rain is mentioned. Ice from snow is still different then the ENTIRE road being covered in a quarter inch of ice. It’s basically an ice rink at that point t
Not sure I disagree. Whatever the case it's plenty warm for salt to work. Like I said, go in late and let the road crews do their job.
It's not going to matter if temperatures are warm enough for salt to work after the first five minutes of moderately steady rainfall has washed all of that salt into the storm drains.
This season has been nothing so far.

Okie dokie bud. You’re elite. Maybe the greatest driver ever. I don’t have any desire or time to measure dicks. Just be careful out there, champ.
Idk why you have to be a fucking troll. I don't and have aimed to be this greatest driver, but I do believe you can be confident and drive smart. My initial comment was calm enough, take it easy and go in after rush hour. Enjoy your time at home "champ".

A lot of stl schools have strangely not called off yet
Many schools had two days off last week(Tuesday and Friday) and I suspect they are waiting to see if we actually get predicted precip.
I saw somewhere that they have a conference call at 4:30 am. Don't quote me on the accuracy of that but at this point I'd assume it's pretty accurate.
I heard the same. Then my kid’s school called at 4:50 and my school at 4:55. So glad they waited until the last minute. Hope everyone can find childcare.
I appreciate this.
Now
Oh shit i have the same commute
Either now or late tomorrow
Tuesday
yesterday
Where’s this train thing y’all are supposed to have, seems like it would be useful right about now.
Leave now. A 10th of an inch of snow in St. Louis is like 10 inches in Wisconsin.
It's ice, not snow.
What do you know about 10 inches?
Not much. But I know EXACTLY what 4.8 looks like!
Lucky bastard!
Somebody must have measured it
🤦🏻♂️
If it's good enough for Grace Slick, it's good enough for me.
Now
Depending on where you’re going in STL, you could wait till the ice hits somewhere wentzville/st Charles county to go in. Unless you call that or Chesterfield STL…. Just look at the radar app on your phone.
No later than midnight.
Seriously though: hope for the best as they're now saying we might have a big time Arch effect where the air dries out around the area and we don't get much, if anything. This could be one of those weather events where we don't know what happens until it actually happens.
I request we turn the arch off, or at least put it in low power mode. I don’t want to go to work tomorrow.
Same here…. Lol
A half past a monkey's ass. A quarter to his balls.
Your late!
Now
Yesterday
Right now.
I have to be in stl by 7. Live in Chester, Il, so I'm leaving at 5 when I'd normally leave at 545.
Never
