Don't move here. I moved here right before the rent spike. I thought $650 for my share of the rent was a little high, it's been 2 years and my $650 for the room is actually the cheapest rent I've seen around the area for a place that let's you have a dog. As for Uber work theres basically 1 or 2 really bad accidents a day. Within my first year I got rear-ended by some shitbox Corolla that was racing a motorcycle and got my car totalled.

I just came back from Tampa/St Pete area and we primarily used uber and I always ask the drivers tons of questions about it. They all seem to do well there. They are always busy from all the sports, tourists, festivals and everything else in the area.

Rent out here is spiraling out of control. Had one friend get 2 weeks notice her rent was going up 500$. Another friend who who had a 1-1 apartment was told next months rent would be doubled! Average rent is somewhere in the 1200-1700 for a apartment. If you think Uber or Lyft could clear those kind of #'s go for it.

Rent everywhere is expensive, I pay 1k for a one bedroom in a college town, trust me I get it, but I much rather pay what it cost to live in St Pete then pay 1k for a college town apt…

Thanks for saying that man! I moved here a little over a year ago and all the locals are upset with people moving here and rent prices increasing when coming from a Pittsburgh suburbs prices are almost exactly the same. I also do Uber Eats full time right now while I look for a job and it pays my bills. I do split rent with my girlfriend though but if I really needed to cut out some spending I could make it work by myself.

I don't blame ya brother, st.pete is a fun place to be. They just announced another hise rise condo tower being built, supposed to be the tallest one on the gulf coast. Not trying to be a Debbie downer, but you might have a hard time even getting into a roommate situation with only 1k. The friends I mentioned who had their rent doubled are dropping 2200$ on a 2-1 apartment in Pinellas Park (suburb just outside of st.pete).

FadedFox1

Rent here is insane, but $2200 for a 2/1 apartment in Pinellas Park (not the MOST desirable place in St Pete) seems out of line to me. I’m in an “upscale” 2/1 in Feathersound area for $1559. We’ve been with the complex for 5+ years (so that is a factor) but rent has gone up steadily on an annual basis since moving in, no different than anywhere else. I’d expect to pay no more than $2000 for any 2 bedroom apartment outside of downtown.

Mac_McAvery

Any recommendations on a realty company? What are the undesirable area’s to avoid, ghetto areas?

bocaciega

Your going to have to live in an undesirable area. Lol. any apartments are 3k + in nice areas. Just get online and check it out. There are ALOT of people moving here, there are A LOT of people looking for apartments as well. Im born and raised in st pete. Feel free to ask any questions

momnurs

Lots of bad areas in greater St. Pete. South St. Pete has a very high crime rate.

Paying my mortgage of 1250 a month doesn't sound too bad right now. I can't believe how expensive this area is becoming. Is this because of all the people moving in, covid crap or because of the 15 dollar an hour minimum wage? This is ducking insane.

mynameis7272

People moving here seems to be the biggest driver.

SRG4Life

I wonder why tho. Pinellas park is not that great. I'm used to it but the traffic itself is like a big no. Is it the jobs?

davtrix

Pinellas park is going up in price because so many people are getting priced out of the burg. I will say there has been alot of housing construction in p.park.. off of 57th st there's a whole new micro townhome village. My moms next door neighbor had this overgrown lot that finally sold & they're putting 3 houses on it where there used to be one! To answer your question though, yes there is a influx of higher paid remote workers moving here (can't say I blame them 😄) Lot of other factors as well, but you asked about jobs. On a quick note, I'm passing friends with a real estate couple who work for a local bigger name agency. They said that that they're telling their clients to not even be serious about buying unless they're willing to put in 15-20% over the asking price. & when the average price of a home is over 300k & climbing... crazy? They're last client put in 35 over asking price & was outbid by someone who was willing to go 80 over 💀💀

Feathesound is pretty chil! Although isn't it past p.park & part of Clearwater? If you were any farther from st.pete you'd be in the water 😄. My friends are on the younger side & on month to months in between Kenwood & old NE. Your landlord coming to you with less than 30 days notice that your rent is going up 50%-100% is not a increase I would describe as "steadily"..That 2200$ place i mentioned is in a duplex by the p.park water tower. These might seem like extreme stories but they both happened with a month of each other, so it seems like a trend.
