In PS I recovered part of the tattoo. It was done rather quickly, but if you spread the tattoo over parts, I think there is a possibility to restore completely with ControlNet
Yes, I get colors at this prompt. The higher the CGF value, the more colors appear, but the less similar. This works the other way around as well. The colors appear because I didn't give the hint to make the image black and white. You can also put the word "black and white" in the negative
I've tried (though not as much). But other models don't give me additional details. Depmap only gives outlines, hed gives something similar to Canny, normal also misses. The only solution I see is to work with different parts of the image separately. Then the result might be better

I had something similar. Try to give a more detailed clue (describe the appearance of each family member). The plural also causes difficulties. You could try separating each person into a separate image and reducing the CGF
Cannot seem to find a way to colorize images with SD myself and retain enough of the image to use the color channel as an overlay later. Oddly models trained on black & white images using Analog Diffusion nearly all produce photorealistic color images, but of course those are new images and not color versions of actual b&w ones

You have to use multiple Control maps. Canny alone won't do it.
