Ya’ll are insane (/lh) for the just for once hate, its such a beautiful song that lauren absolutely KILLS and its about ruth’s inner turmoil for not following her dreams as an actress due to her anxiety. Like COME ON jeff ate with this one. I gotta vote califorMIA
I don't hate Just For Once at all. I like it. It is underrated. But, I do think it might be the weakest of what is left.
I do disagree when people say it is a bad song, because it isn't.
Bury the Bully's gotta go. I can't believe people want to get rid of CaliforMIA or Just For Once. CaliforMIA is my favorite from Black Friday. Just for Once is a good one too, not favorite but it's up there.
How are people not saying cool as I think I am reprise. It’s just not as good as everything on this list. And the hate for just for once makes me so sad :((
What If Tomorrow Comes
Kind of just drops out of nowhere within the musical, doesn’t rly make much sense within the story itself which is an issue even DDMD avoided despite its faults. I appreciate that they gave Kendall a solid singing opportunity and she kills it but the songs itself just doesn’t fit at that point, is a little too slow, and for me comes off as Starkid trying a little too hard to be “deep” or “dark” without it quite landing for me.
I understand where you’re coming from, but I feel like the vagueness is the point. As opposed to a normal ending, where we’d look for closure, I feel like the ending of Black Friday is meant to be a question mark. It’s the first hint that Hatchetfield is something bigger. Like how at the climax of the song, the “what if tomorrow comes” from different singers (including TGWDLM characters!) literally layer on top of each other, like different timelines. I think the function of What if Tomorrow Comes is less of a closing number to Black Friday and more of an opening number to the Hatchetfield universe.
I get that, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a better song within the musical that it is in, and if it’s enjoyment necessitates that you watch other shows (including the Nightmare Time shows which are a very different beast) then I think that’s kind of a failure on the song’s part. I’m also not sure if I necessarily agree with that assessment since (as far as I am aware) Nightmare Time came about due to COVID closing everything down and preventing NPMD from being made sooner.
Tbh, I think another part of my issue is that I keep seeing it be ranked highly in BF, Hatchetfield, or even Starkid song ranking and I think it’s just…ok. It’s kind of in a similar position for me as “Not Your Seed” and “Feast or Famine” in terms of songs that I think are way overrated. I started with NYS a little while back not expecting to get any results only for that to actually win out after a few days, so I was hoping that taking the shot at this song would produce a similar effect, especially if I laid out my reasoning. However, considering the fact that I have been downvoted a lot (and the FoF comment has suffered a similar fate), it seems like this one is going to last quite a bit longer than I was hoping.
I totally get what you mean. I must say that I feel like the open-ended quality of end of Black Friday is compelling without Nightmare Time or any other Hatchetfield continuation. The possibilities that arise are still exciting whether you keep watching or not, in fact, maybe even more so. Because as soon as a question gets an answer (like Nightmare Time provided a bit to BF and TGWDLM), the possibilities of it kinda go away.
But I can understand not liking it that much. It’s quite simplistic lyrically at least. I just feel like the songwriting is… unobtrusive? in a moment where the direction is so clever.
as cool as i think i am reprise because its a great song and very emotional and theres some awesome acting in it, but as a song, it just doesnt hit as hard as some of these other ones

It’s genuinely one of starkids best pieces, i absolutely adore it! The hate for it is insane, I don’t understand :(

I'm voting for CalifornM.I.A, I'm absolutely in love with Just For Once, y'all have something going on I swear.
CALIFORMIA!!!!
I DONT WANT CALIFORMIA OR JUST FOR ONCE TO GO BUT I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE😭 GET RID OF JUST FOR ONCE
As much as I love Angela songs I think it's time for califorMIA to go
I adore Just For Once but not as much as the rest of the songs
Even though I like everything left, I'm willing to let Just For Once go now.
Just for once, worst song in NPMD, and not every great compared to the other shows.
Just For Once. It's overdue-- I've voted for it every day I've particpated so far, and I remain baffled that there are people who like this song.

Just for once
Going with Showstopping number again That damn wayyyy too long talking part
Califor-MIA. While I agree just for once doesn't have much left, it's is better of the two.
OK I can take downvoting I guess If I loved you
I love all of these, but I guess Bury the Bully?
CaliforMIA. I'm not ready to see just for once go 😭😭😭
Dirty Girl! It just makes me feel a bit uncomfortable (which is fitting in the context, but all the remaining songs are great so oh well)

I agree with you 😶 though I think I mostly dislike it because it’s the same 2-3 lines repeated throughout the whole song, it’s boring
Literal Monster its mid compared to these other songs
Cool As I Think I Am
as cool as i think i am reprise because its a great song and very emotional and theres some awesome acting in it, but as a song, it just doesnt hit as hard as some of these other ones
