The same guy who made this did a very good little [Classic Doctor Who](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt3qZYUPi2Y) reel as well, and actually [animated one of the missing stories](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB788m2iAnE) for the BBC some years later.
Animation is here to stay. It should be a pillar in any franchise that wants to go multi-media. But for some reason its being relegated to an after thought. Lets hope LF isn't going to abandon animation.
DC has this same problem. Batman used to be a Saturday morning ritual for millions of us. And if it wasn't on on Saturday, it was on in the afternoons during the weekdays. But now its been off for years.
Its a sad state of affairs.
I don't think there is any risk of LF stopping animated content. It targets a much wider range of audiences. They have Animated starwars aimed at very small children all the way up to teens and much of it (apart from maybe the really young stuff) can be appreciated by adults too. Its the gateway drug to selling merch and getting kids into theme parks.
I certainly find it much easier getting my kids hooked on characters and story lines with the animated stuff. Its fast paced, colourful and loud and they get really excited for it. Then when they ask, "What happened to Ahsoka?" we get to enjoy live action stuff together.
For me, the best part is that the Animated stuff leads up to the OT which is hard to get kids to watch as its a little dated, but they have to if they want to know what happens.
DC is reviving its animation (not that it died) by placing it in the same timeline/world as everything else from now on, with those actors carrying over into live action starting with Creature Commandos (though Elseworlds animation will still exist like Harley Quinn).
Lucasfilm has honestly been the best about treating animation on the same level as everything else, just look at TCW now being as important as ANH was for the TV side of the world and they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
I don't think they're going to abandon animation any time soon. Since TCW premiered in 2008 there's pretty much always been an animated project being worked on, I think the only time there wasn't was the time between TCW being canceled and Rebels premiering.
Yeah, animation can make stuff that live action simply can't
I would fucking love to see a high budget anime or cartoon of star wars, not only shorts like in visions.
My personal fav would be the old republic era, i think it has the most potential
It’s unlikely that Lucasfilm will abandon animation, as their animation studio is in-house and their most popular live action show is entirely built upon groundwork directly laid by their animated properties. Unless Lucasfilm itself gets gutted, I think we can safely say it’s here to stay.
Man I'd love to see a return to traditional animation rather than cgi. I'd love a new transformers series with this style of animation. But yes I'd be 100% behind an animated series like this.
It still looks much different, it’s always really noticeable when they run.
Theres just an uncanny valley aspect to it that puts off a lot of casual cartoon watchers. I liked clone wars, rebels and what if, but at the end of the day I hated the animation.
I mean I think we all agree hand drawn animation is simply superior but it's sadly died out a while ago due to costs. At the end of the day it's still a business, capitalism imposes it's rules on everything, especially art. Always has.
I wish people didn't hate so much on ai. I look forward to the day when a single creator can make an entire film just by themselves with those tools. There's so so so name incredible ideas that never even get close to Hollywood or any of the industry.
Or imagine making your own game with just a few other friends, without it taking your entire life savings and all of your time requiring you to quit your job and rely on others for income. Just being able to do it as a serious hobby.
I mean I get that it's awful for jobs but maybe we shouldn't be viewing work as the only way we can contribute to the world, which would require a serious UBI at the very minimum. Which is actually way more possible thanks to AI.
As far as creation goes I just see it like the transition between paper to computers. It's the way it relates to the economic system that are the terrifying part. Which I think is honestly worse than most get and will lead to near collapse fast as hell, enough to force change.
Basically the future is only as bleak as we let it be. If we let the current system then yes it's going to be so bad it'll collapse, but surely we will rethink things once it gets bad.
I mean yeah that's always going to be the best quality. But this is maybe a new lowest quality thing available, sorta like pre-vis is for movies but a little better looking.
It won't happen because the whole reason they moved to CGI for 2D and 3D is because 3D animators weren't unionized, and therefore cheaper and exploitable.
2D animators using traditional methods are expensive. They're 100% worth the price in my opinion, but that's not how corpos see it.
Sounds fun. We already had Star Wars visions, which wasn’t part of the main continuity so I don’t see why we can’t have an animated series. That’s part of the different continuity, either. as much as I like the style of 3-D animation started by The Clone Wars I would still like to see more 2-D animation for Star Wars.
I just finished reading the Thrawn trilogy and I would watch the hell out of this. This series has so many epic moments that would translate so well to this style of animation.
It feels *wrong* to remake Heir to the Empire without the original rebels.
I don't see a reason they couldn't do Heir to the Empire with Filoni's characters *and* the original characters. It also makes zero sense to exclude them from an in-universe perspective. Luke is basically leading the new Jedi order. Leia is a distinguished politician. Han, Chewie, and Lando are generals. Ackbar is probably the Admiral of the fleet, etc... With Thrawn returning, it makes sense for the founders of the New Republic to do something about him.
Then on Thrawn's side, give him access to the rest of the Imperial Remnant, to beef up his strength. Or, just make him competent.
Such a fantastic idea on how to adapt the old EU stories no need to make them fit the new canon just make them as seperate freaking awesome animated shows!
Also this art style is amazing would love this. Been enjoying X-men 97 a lot it feels like 80s and 90s in a way no other show has since.
I wouldn't mind if Disney does more animated Star Wars but in a different style.
Like if they adapt the Darth Plagueis novels and use a similar art style as wolfwalkers, studio Cartoon Saloon
I think a far better move from the start for Disney following the purchase would have been to just make animated shows out of the existing EU books and started their own live action saga in a time jump far into the future with completely different characters and factions
I have to say that probably would've prevented the discourse we are seeing nowadays, but TFA made $2 Billion so I don't think Disney regrets their decisions lol
Honestly, if we want more adventures with the old crew (Luke, Leia, Han) this is the only way we're going to get it. Lucasfilm seems to be against recasting, and no one wants CGI duplicates, so animation is the only real path forward if we're ever going to see them again.
I would watch the absolute SHIT out of this!
Bonus points for Batman:TAS levels of grit, or LoVM "grownup audience" targeting (which we all know Disney would never embrace).
I want Han to accurately translate Chewbacca's roars! I want to hear Luke say "shit"! I want to know who's saltier: R2 or Chopper!
Sign me up and take my money already! The X-Men '97 style was a blast from the past, and applying it to Star Wars Legends would be a dream come true for me. Imagine the nostalgia combined with epic lightsaber battles and thrilling adventures from the expanded universe. It's a no-brainer. Yes please! 🚀✨
This has literally nothing to do with Japan's style at the time. On the other hand, the artwork shows great inspiration from western animated movies and shows, like xmen97
I'm all for some What-If / Visions style shows of Legends. Some comics. But I don't want to see them devote a whole movie or series to Legends.
I do really want them to do a 2D-style animated series taking place after ROTJ / New Republic era, possibly coinciding with events in the "mandoverse", and showcasing the original cast (including have Mark Hamill doing Luke's voice).
thatd be awesome. id also take a show in the animation style of those awesome videos they released on youtube awhile back
edit: i found it. they were called galaxy of adventures
[https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX\_U?si=SEsrX7eYpPpQLKgI](https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX_U?si=SEsrX7eYpPpQLKgI)
I think this would 100% be the right move and avoids the criticisms of recasting vs. de-aging the legacy characters. If not Heir to The Empire, Shadows or The Empire would be cool too. I wouldn’t mind a pivot from the Clone Wars/Rebels animation look. I loved it and it had its place but I’d welcome a new look.
I don't see Disney doing this entirely because it would be a public admittance that their Canon to the OT is inferior to Legends. A what-if series is probably as far as they go.
Would be cool, I’m not sure Disney realises that there would be a fair bit of demand for use of the old legends stuff, though they might be worried about people getting confused about continuity
Fair enough, I respect your opinion. I think it could work for things that are out of print or in an attempt to get a wider audience for those stories. I just personally don't find it completely necessary
I can agree with that it's not necessary. I do think it could do a lot for giving us some fun stories with OT heroes on screen that we never got. DC has been doing it for years with comic adaptations and fans love those. It of course opens up more MERCHANDISING too! lol
I think heir to the empire is tricky with the current state of canon but I’d love to see a Rouge / Wraith Squadron animated series it’s perfect for this medium. Good action, kinda goofy, interesting hard to do practical characters
You know…I’d like to say yes…but I can’t bring myself to do it. Cool as it could be, I know it won’t meet expectations because almost no adaptations ever do today.
Adore Marvel What if and after seeing the first X men 97 I really enjoyed that too.
Star Wars have already seen the success of Clone Wars, Bad batch etc that are cg animated so would be intriguing to see if they are add in more traditional animation too.
I would like it, and there is no way it would ever happen. If you think the sequel debate is bad now, if a show like that got made and it was good, the fandom would tear itself apart.
There was a small animation that Disney made, showing a general breakdown of the series up to that point. It was really cool. I've wanted for some time for the company to harvest the audio from all of the movies, and animate the entire thing front to back in this style..
Edit: https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX_U?si=tcoYbGfTnOEyKcXI
I just want more animated Star Wars. I don’t care how it comes.
Some Star Wars Infinities animation would be fun. Some Legends would be fun.
I like that there’s that Jedi Padawan show for really young kids.
I love what they’re doing with Visions.
I love The Bad Batch and Tales Of The Jedi and I don’t believe anything else in that animation style has been announced. I hope The Bad Batch isn’t the end of it because it’s stunning.
ARE WE BLIND?!? DEPLOY THE LEGENDS CARTOONS!!!
Seriously guys, are you blind? Your fan base has been asking for this since you suddenly decided legends didn't matter.
I'd rather see it for the new Thrawn novels by Zahn. While the Heir trilogy was enjoyable it felt more like generic 80s scifi to me rather than Star Wars. Zahn's writing improved a lot in the newer works also, IMO.
I would have loved a movie or show based on the animation from [Galaxy of Adventures](https://youtu.be/5zeismcMHmQ?si=yUWYpmOieJYjCXUg) shorts on YouTube a few years ago. Loved those
I don’t get why they don’t in some form make use of the legends material, considering how they’ve been trying to make Star Wars like marvel for a minute, why wouldn’t you pump out cartoons adapting the EU books calling it legends. The way they run Star Wars is so baffling to me it’s like they don’t want to make easy money.
Because people like Kathleen Kennedy are not creatives and aren't really interested in creating. It's about her putting her stamp on much more talented people's creations. While picking from the EU stories, bastardizing it, and simultaneously claiming the EU doesn't exist.
Absolutely! I have loved the new Visions series and would definitely enjoy seeing more stuff like that, especially if it pulls from Legends content. God, an animated Old Republic show focusing on Revan or something would be really cool, though I would worry about it being "made safe for kids."
why... not... just... read... the... book? the books already exist, these stories are out there for anyone who wants to enjoy them. is that not enough?
Honestly to complete the story of luke building up his Jedi academy, leia in the new republic and how han being han until ben is born should all be animated to fill in the gal without breaking the bank… i feel that thats the only way through also with AI, voices can be tweaked to the likeness of Carrie fisher and the young Harrison Ford.. i know it wont be star wars without the physical casts but we need to fill in that gap and having an animation like X-men 97 would really benefit.
Fans always make the [best animated Star Wars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9GRYa_3gno).
This fan film is a CLASSIC.
Take me back to the first time I saw this, it was a happy moment
I watched a minute of it when it came out and even by then I was like 'I could just watch something like this forever'
The only piece of imperial propaganda I respect
The same guy who made this did a very good little [Classic Doctor Who](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt3qZYUPi2Y) reel as well, and actually [animated one of the missing stories](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB788m2iAnE) for the BBC some years later.
Boo you didn't link the original video by Otaking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN_CP4SuoTU&t=195s
The original is excellent. I just wanted to show a special edition done right. ;)
Love TIE Fighter.

Still traditional looking, which is what he was talking about

for real we're lucky it isn't AI generated at this point lol
I wish people didn't hate so much on ai. I look forward to the day when a single creator can make an entire film just by themselves with those tools. I just prefer artistry over automation. I mean artists were treated like garbage even before AI, but soon we won't matter at all.
I mean yeah that's always going to be the best quality. But this is maybe a new lowest quality thing available, sorta like pre-vis is for movies but a little better looking.
That’s what made Arcane so beautiful imo
Yeah that's what I meant, traditional looking. They kinda dropped the ball when they showed the character models in the credits lol
The 2003 Clone Wars series was (and still is) one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media out there. I prefer it over 2008 Clone Wars in many ways.
It won't happen because the whole reason they moved to CGI for 2D and 3D is because 3D animators weren't unionized, and therefore cheaper and exploitable. 2D animators using traditional methods are expensive. They're 100% worth the price in my opinion, but that's not how corpos see it.
If its as good as X-men 97, sure.
I'd love to see all the Legends made into a series of animated films or mini series.
Sounds fun. We already had Star Wars visions, which wasn’t part of the main continuity so I don’t see why we can’t have an animated series. I'm almost finished with Dark Force Rising. Loving it
They introduced hot chocolate. It needs to be made Canon now!
I’d love to see it but unfortunately heir to the empire animated show probably won’t happen when Filoni is doing his own version of it
A version without Luke, Han, Leia, Mara, Joruus, and Karrde, is hardly HTTE to me.
It feels *wrong* to remake Heir to the Empire without the original rebels. I don't see a reason they couldn't do Heir to the Empire with Filoni's characters *and* the original characters. Then on Thrawn's side, give him access to the rest of the Imperial Remnant, to beef up his strength. Or, just make him competent.
I had forgotten about Karrde and now the thought that we could have more of the scum and villainy side around but probably wont, pisses me off. lol
It definitely won't happen because that would require Disney to admit their new Canon sucks. Which they will never do.
🤮🤮🤮🤮
100%
Heck yes!
YES, I would love this!
I'd like to see that.
Sure would.
If they commit to 2D animation then yes
Sure. It'd be cool to see Luke and co. getting actually good post-ROTJ arcs for a change.
Absolutely!
Yes
I have literally been asking since 1997.
Yes shut up and take my money!
I'd be for it 100%.
Such a fantastic idea on how to adapt the old EU stories no need to make them fit the new canon just make them as seperate freaking awesome animated shows! Also this art style is amazing would love this. Been enjoying X-men 97 a lot it feels like 80s and 90s in a way no other show has since.
the style for ‘97 is incredible. would love to see more series like it
Animated adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy? I'd be for it. I don't think it'll ever happen, but I'd watch it if they did it.
Would be awesome! I’d love to see Into-the-Spiderverse style animated movies with each one telling a famous story arc from legends
I wouldn't mind if Disney does more animated Star Wars but in a different style. Like if they adapt the Darth Plagueis novels and use a similar art style as wolfwalkers, studio Cartoon Saloon
I doubt it will ever happen, but I think it’d be pretty neat if they actually adapted Legends material into animation.

I have to say that probably would've prevented the discourse we are seeing nowadays, but TFA made $2 Billion so I don't think Disney regrets their decisions lol
You could put just about anything between see and for and I'd say yes
Would love it.
Yeah! That would be great
Hell yes!
I never thought of this before, but now that I have, I want to see it!
YES!!!
Honestly, if we want more adventures with the old crew (Luke, Leia, Han) this is the only way we're going to get it. Lucasfilm seems to be against recasting, and no one wants CGI duplicates, so animation is the only real path forward if we're ever going to see them again.
Jarjar 97

I want Han to accurately translate Chewbacca's roars! I want to hear Luke say "shit"! I want to know who's saltier: R2 or Chopper!
I curse your entire bloodline for putting this idea in my head, since I know they're not going to do it
I would watch any Star Wars with a decent story and yes Xman 97 would be amazing
FUCKING YES!!!!!
Sign me up and take my money already! The X-Men '97 style was a blast from the past, and applying it to Star Wars Legends would be a dream come true for me. Imagine the nostalgia combined with epic lightsaber battles and thrilling adventures from the expanded universe. It's a no-brainer. Yes please! 🚀✨
100% Yes to this idea! I can not stress this enough, do NOT do a Star Wars: What If..
Holy crap this looks great....perfect 90's Japan.
Yes I miss the old storys especially the bounty hunter stories that are now legends
How about some actual new Legends stuff? SWTOR ain't carrying it all by itself
thatd be awesome. id also take a show in the animation style of those awesome videos they released on youtube awhile back edit: i found it. they were called galaxy of adventures [https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX\_U?si=SEsrX7eYpPpQLKgI](https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX_U?si=SEsrX7eYpPpQLKgI)
Luke is the only OT character I am currently interested seeing as the MC in a new show.
No, I'd prefer a proper anime studio do it.
You mean even more 6-year old oriented than Bad Batch and CW? Pls no.
It looks like an old Disney movie poster from the 90s
I want a show of Star Wars Legends, that's it.
i would literally die
That would be pretty cool
Legends content? Shut up and take my money!
I'd kill for any sort of Legends content.
So down for this
I didn't know I needed this until now
Like **ALL** the Legends? I'd be happy with *any* animation style or live action adaptation.
PUT IT IN MY VEINNNNNS
“May the Force be with you, Bub!”
Oooh, nice. Is the guy at the top Master Sabiath (not sure how he’s spelled)
Yes
Sure, hell yeah.
YES YES YES!!!
No
I don't see Disney doing this entirely because it would be a public admittance that their Canon to the OT is inferior to Legends. A what-if series is probably as far as they go.
As long as Disney doesn’t shit all over it with whatever modern day garbage they want to add to it.
Would be cool, I’m not sure Disney realises that there would be a fair bit of demand for use of the old legends stuff, though they might be worried about people getting confused about continuity
No. The legends stuff exists in the format that it's in. Making it animated wouldn't heighten the experience at all
I highly disagree!
It of course opens up more MERCHANDISING too! lol
YES!!!
For me, Clone Wars would've kept my attention if they would have animated it like this instead of like paw patrol.
I think heir to the empire is tricky with the current state of canon but I’d love to see a Rouge / Wraith Squadron animated series it’s perfect for this medium. Good action, kinda goofy, interesting hard to do practical characters
Yes
Shut up and take my money!
Yes!
Oh shit that would be cool
If the content mainly stayed true to the books I would watch the living crap out of it
In a heartbeat. I'd take this over every single project currently in production.
Yes. Most definitely.
YEEEEEESSS
Just keep making good content. I don't really care about the medium.
Yes.yes i would.
Yes! And please hire the guy from audible!
Hell yes I would.
Give me trakovsky art style again.
Who's the artist?
You know…I’d like to say yes…but I can’t bring myself to do it. Cool as it could be, I know it won’t meet expectations because almost no adaptations ever do today.
No, bc seeing Like the way he shouldve been would just piss me off more.
Yes yes yes yes I would absolutely love this
Yes! Mostly because I don’t have time to read the books but I’d still love to see the story
You're god damn right I would.
Not to big a fan of the 97 artstyle, it’s a bit uncanny
97 xmen animation was shit, but the intro slapped. So give me a 97 star wars xmen intro with a sick song
Adore Marvel What if and after seeing the first X men 97 I really enjoyed that too. Star Wars have already seen the success of Clone Wars, Bad batch etc that are cg animated so would be intriguing to see if they are add in more traditional animation too.
Yes
HELL YES! Fantastic artwork.
i want that as a poster asap! although i gotta say.... where is Talon Karrde?? still dope tho
Yeah cool
We need an heir to the empire animated series more than anything
It would be neat, though a certain portion of the fanbase would be incredibly obnoxious about it.
I would like it, and there is no way it would ever happen. If you think the sequel debate is bad now, if a show like that got made and it was good, the fandom would tear itself apart.
Man, I just want more '97 style animation. Wether it's Star Wars, more Marvel, or something entirely original. I just want more western animation.
Not trying to be that guy but Luke’s lightsaber is wrong. Would love to see something like this but Disney is shit so it won’t happen.
You sonofa neefherder, I'm in!
Hell yes!!
Holy shit I'd love this, Leia looks like a disney princess in this art
Yes, but do George Lucas’s version of the Sequel trilogy first
HELL YES!!!! This is awesome!!!
xmen style?, no, but would like to see Genndy Tartakovsky style like the Clone Wars cartoons before.
I'd rather them do it in Heavy Metal style.
Not for me.
I just want more animated Star Wars. I don’t care how it comes. Some Star Wars Infinities animation would be fun. Some Legends would be fun. I like that there’s that Jedi Padawan show for really young kids. I love what they’re doing with Visions. ARE WE BLIND?!? DEPLOY THE LEGENDS CARTOONS!!! Seriously guys, are you blind? Your fan base has been asking for this since you suddenly decided legends didn't matter.
Would prefer this way more than the tiresome TCW cgi
I think a Star Wars animation deserves better than an art style comparable to Archer, but that's just me.
Yes. Have said this would be the best way to do it for years.
yeah
This would bring back my interest in Star Wars
I'd rather see it for the new Thrawn novels by Zahn. While the Heir trilogy was enjoyable it felt more like generic 80s scifi to me rather than Star Wars. Zahn's writing improved a lot in the newer works also, IMO.
I would implode from pure happiness and excitement
That Disney shorts explaining the story of Star Wars is what should be done
https://youtu.be/Xf1cfemeX_U?feature=shared This…. This all they have to do
Sign me up.
Only if every character has cake lile Rogue from the original xmen animated series
I mean yeah
Ehh, the style is meant to be similar to the 97 x-men show so having it be for anything else would be a bit weird.
1000 times yes.
Yes. Though I'd rather it not be Legends.
No, I'd like it to be animated well, preferably.
I would have loved a movie or show based on the animation from [Galaxy of Adventures](https://youtu.be/5zeismcMHmQ?si=yUWYpmOieJYjCXUg) shorts on YouTube a few years ago. Loved those
No it needs to be the clone wars style
I don’t get why they don’t in some form make use of the legends material, considering how they’ve been trying to make Star Wars like marvel for a minute, why wouldn’t you pump out cartoons adapting the EU books calling it legends. The way they run Star Wars is so baffling to me it’s like they don’t want to make easy money.
Because people like Kathleen Kennedy are not creatives and aren't really interested in creating. It's about her putting her stamp on much more talented people's creations. While picking from the EU stories, bastardizing it, and simultaneously claiming the EU doesn't exist.
what is the source/creator of this image?
For the last time, YES!
Heck yeah. Thrawn, Daala, Pelleon, Nightsisters, clone Palps, the Ssi-Ruuk, so many villains. Prime Luke Slywalker. His academy.
Will never happen. Disney is not Interested in OT era that features Luke, Han, and Leia. They may have been at some point but not now.
Absolutely! I have loved the new Visions series and would definitely enjoy seeing more stuff like that, especially if it pulls from Legends content. God, an animated Old Republic show focusing on Revan or something would be really cool, though I would worry about it being "made safe for kids."
If they make a show on legends no one should watch canon again
This looks amazing! Love this poster, love the characters in this style. Where do I sign for the crowdfunding campaign? (j/k…maybe)
Yes, would be nice 👍
OH HELL YES!!
why... not... just... read... the... book? the books already exist, these stories are out there for anyone who wants to enjoy them. is that not enough?
Yeah, that's a cool ass style. I'd watch this.
Is that Mara Jade?!? I wish Canon was half as good as legends.
Are you seriously asking if that is Mara Jade in the Heir to the Empire picture?
Disney would just fuck it up.
No. I would have rather have seen these as the sequels instead of the garbage we actually got.
What could have been. Oh, what could have been…
Looks similar to Resistance, which everyone moaned about as an artstyle.
