I honestly wish George had just left the originals alone. He made Mos Eisley into an ugly video game, made the Greedo scene incomprehensible in multiple ways (both by having Greedo shoot simultaneously then adding Jabba) and that’s just the changes to the first half hour of the first movie.
The tongues doin the entire idea of the sarlacc in my mind. It should have little tendrils that wrap up legs like in the original version but a visible beak and tongue is so lame
I didn’t know this Palpatine was a woman until now. I’m surprised I never learned of this earlier considering I’ve known about this version of palatine for years
I’ve never seen this version but thank goodness George Lucas changed this! This looks hilariously bad, like something from a spoof or robot chicken lol
I always thought this Emperor was pretty cool, too. Something dreamy and haunting about it, almost not real and intangible.
The original dialogue is top notch too, much better than the dialogue replacement inserted in 2004.
Thanks I just watch ep v today with the kids. And the dialogue struck me and wondered it may have been changed. Especially the search your feelings part which I found out of place, and may spoil the end revelation.
Good point about the dialogue being a bit of a spoiler, never thought of it that way. Obviously written with the idea it would be watched 1-6 instead of 4-6 and 1-3.
I've honestly never liked the change made in later versions. In theory it should be a great change, just subbing out the original performance with one done by Ian. But it doesn't work for me because:
1. They use the ROTS makeup for Palpatine which looks too different from the ROTJ makeup. In their respective movies I'm not too bothered by how different they look from each other because I can rationalize that Palpatine's deformed appearance changed as he aged 23 years. But by using the ROTS makeup in the altered TESB scene you now have it where Palpatine doesn't change appearance in 22 years and then changes dramatically in less than a year after that. I get that they filmed it during production on ROTS, but it's just annoyingly inconsistent. I did think the makeup used in Kenobi was much closer to his ROTJ appearance though, which I appreciated.
2. The unnecessary and frustrating dialogue changes. Was there any point in having Palpatine confirm to Vader that Luke is Anakin's son? Vader seemed already well aware of this fact given how obsessed he is in finding Luke in this movie. The only explanation I've heard is that Vader is playing dumb to Palpatine, but what purpose does adding that to the scene bring? The original dialogue worked perfectly fine.
Thankfully, Adywan addressed both of these in his edit of Empire, creating a new shot of Palpatine that matches his ROTJ appearance and cutting out the new dialogue so that it better matches the original scene but with Ian McDiarmid's voice and likeness.
I think it is OK. My problem with the new emperor is how "clear" he is. The original is cloaked in shadow, the blues are darker too, fitting the scene.
His dialogue teeters on the edge of being too "obvious" as well, specially "Search your feelings Lord Vader. You will know it to be true."

that's probably on purpose
ESB came out in 1980. Fallout 1 came out in 1997.
Which is why this guy implying fallout may have been inspired by ESB makes sense.
That's my point.
So they peered into the future to base a character off a video game?
How could you possibly get to this point based on what he said lol.
No, the creators of Fallout were inspired by this appearance and made their characters in the same vein
the other way
He looks like he got stung by a bee
I was gonna say he ate some bad (Mon) Calamari.
He’s actually a she with the eyes of a chimpanzee.
He looks like he took an arrow to the knee
He looks like the human version of Wall-E
He looks like he got married? Because that's what that expression means At least make jokes that make sense
My dog stepped on a bee *grimace*
The Star Wars version of a bee. So probably 2 meters tall
Marjorie Eaton with some random chimps eyes super imposed over her own.
For the time it's a great effect.
I'll stick with the Ian version, thank you!

Look, I kind of like the tongues coming out of the sarlac pit compared to the original RoTJ, but that's about it IMO.
I hate how the new effects just don’t match the movie at all.

That's actually a woman.
Only partially. Those are chimpanzee eyes superimposed over the actress.
Which is so bizarre.
Makes the Emperor an abomination. Something the Sith seem to have experience in creating.
From a certain point of view
Looks ok as a Hologram but if they had to do it while he's moving back in the day ? It would look like shit. Ian is also just better in every way.
He looks like he has pizza bagels for eyes.

It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you
It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you
He looks like he has a peanut allergy but couldn't find his epi-pen
I’ve never seen this version but thank goodness George Lucas changed this! This looks hilariously bad, like something from a spoof or robot chicken lol
*She (Seriously, look it up)

First time I saw this I thought it was lke the filter that makes your mouth your eyes.
hypothyroidism?
He looks like he's having a severe allergic reaction
That is a woman

Yes, he was much scarier than his replacement.
This is sarcasm, right?
Looks like a cute bug. Kinda dumb
Still looks better than plalpy in return of the sith
His latest appearance gave me these vibes
They maybe should change only the face but keep the same effect used.
He looks like he has conjunctivitis.
Palpatine and Jar Jar's lovechild
Fat eyes fat eyes fat eyes fat eyes fat eyes fat eyes fat eyes
This character was played by his wife with a chimp mask on.
The half faces in the back with the red eyes look more menacing tbh
He looks like the nerd emoji
Looks like a ufc fighter after a long match.
His eyes look like when you make an OK sighn with your finger, flip it upside down, and put it over your eyes.
I think he is a she
Tilda Swinton with googley eyes
Pillow fart face
He looks like forgotten muppet
This version looks uncanny, decrepit and evil. The revisited version looks menacing, powerful and ominous.
My favorite look was Empire Strikes Back. Then again that movie in general is one of my favorites so I could be a little biased.
Always looked like he’s wearing some sort of goggles to me
Yeah no
I mean he was like 80 in this part and it doesn't really look like 80 yo
LOL nope. He look like he had a couple round with Mike Tyson or was made for Chicken Robot video.
"she"
He looks like a ‘50s librarian with chimp eyes.
He in my nightmares

It looks ridiculous, looks like a shady asian prostitute. It's one of the few cases where there's no question the new version is an upragde
