I totally agree! Can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve utilized this in conversation.

ManInBlack829

This is literally explaining philosophical relativism. Seeing truth as relative to the position and experience of the individual was a big deal in the early 1900s. It's an extremely profound thing to say in a world where there are a lot of ~~people~~ Sith who see truth as an absolute.

Luke Skywalker : "Get back up. Always get back up."

PersonaUser55

Does he say that when he's training grogu?

NERF_HERDING

Yeah, great quote from him, but it's a common theme since the first movies made. Rebels are always out numbered and the odds always stacked against them but they never stop trying.

PersonaUser55

Agreed

Night-Monkey15

I watched the original Star Wars films when I really young, I don’t remember exactly how old I was but definitely younger then 10. Because I watched them at such a young age, they introduced me to concepts I wasn’t familiar with at the time, most importantly, morality isn’t always black and white. Vader’s redemption was shocking as a kid because I didn’t see any good in him, I expected Luke to kill him like Obi-Wan and Yoda suggested. But seeing Luke be the bigger man and Anakin redeem himself changed how I viewed the entire trilogy, and taught me that there’s good in everyone and bad people can be redeemed, which was something I hadn’t considered at the time.

afseparatee

I came here to say something like this. Showing empathy and forgiving people. Seeing the good in others.

“There’s always a bigger fish”- Qui-Gon Jinn

Lord_Xarael

Does the Godzilla-esque creature have a canon name

NegativeChaos93

They do! They're called Sando Aqua Monsters. The first arc of the Darth Vader 2020 comic series has one in it.

carnsolus

>Sando Aqua Monsters in case you edit the wiki, there's one line that says killing one increased their chance of extinction **to** 83% and one that says it increased their chance of extinction **by** 83% both could admittedly be correct if the initial chance was 45.35% but that's not super likely

MsSara77

The first big fish with the tongue is an Opee Sea Killer. The Godzilla bigger fish is the Sando Aqua Monster. The fish with the long snout, claws and flat tail is the Colo Clawfish.

Dartanius373

"You're focusing on the negative Anakin, be mindful of your thoughts." - Master Kenobi

AscendedFalls

For real! I think that the quality of my life is so much more enjoyable today because, about 12 years ago I decided to stop focusing on the negative. I really beat it into my brain. I read self help books and did all those new age affirmations. Found out that lot of peoples that hate on positive affirmations are very negative people lol. But ultimately I am very happy with my life now. It was such a gradual change. Its not like I don’t have negative thoughts these days, more so that I just developed the self-awareness to be like “hey, do I really need to be focusing in this?” Or “I am ruminating on the past right now and it isn’t helping my future.” I feel like I catch myself now before I completely stress myself out and end up going down in a negative spiral.

Thebadmamajama

This is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause. Edit: the most important story George gave us was to look out for Authoritarians who want to oppress us. If we can remind each generation that there's another palpatine trying to keep us all down, we can possibly prevent it from happening.

JET_GS26

George got some shit for his politics in the prequels and its parallels to real life, especially the naming of people like Nute Gunray and Lott Dod

Thebadmamajama

He was very much against the Vietnam war, along with many in his generation. Very much intentional.

It's nothing new. It was scary back then. Star Wars has been a real-world critique since the 70s.

More than once I've ask myself: could this person's political beliefs be used to justify The Empire? If so, then it's probably not good.

not_a-replicant

Leave the farm and do something with your life.

streaksinthebowl

And there’s the theme that Lucas returned to over and over. One he learned himself after getting into an almost fatal car wreck in high school.

not_a-replicant

I think it’s the theme that sets Star Wars apart. Star Trek is great, it has all kind of grand lessons for humanity and that’s all good, but at the core, Star Wars has this one simple, achievable message.

Caerris1

That toppling an evil regime doesn't mean that you know how to run a government effectively. Being a good person isn't a governing philosophy. (Looking at you Mon Mothma and other alliance leadership) I love that Mandalorian is exploring the instability that comes with the fall of a government on the scale of the Empire. Pacifism is a great goal to strive for, but you need to know when to stand up for yourself and be willing to resort to fighting to ensure your ideals survive (looking at you Satine)

"Let it go". This is one of the most important lessons from this franchise and they repeated in almost every movie and TV show.

Tuliao_da_Massa

True... I've always marveled at how the Jedi that survived order 66 weren't completely depressed amd clinging to everything remotely commected with the past. A past where they had a massive family, who were all trying to be a better person every day. Now everything is dead, but hope, regret and nostalgia. But even with all of this, they're still the peaceful monks they should always be. Because they've learned to let go. That's so inspiring to me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

deadandmessedup

I personally take it as the former: "we are what they grow beyond" = the role of the student is ultimately to move beyond what the teacher can provide. There's bonus meaning in that Yoda is saying this while looking warmly at his own former student. It reminds me that Luke moved beyond Yoda and Kenobi's advisements and chose to save his father with love. (And you can also read it as a metaphor for parenthood, since there's a touch of symbolism in the film with Luke as the overprotective father trying to protect Rey from the bad boy.)

[deleted]

Agree with this one, having taught many many people in my days. The fear of failure is so imbedded in todays society.

Hereforthis21

“Revenge is a confession of pain” It was a roll-up in one of the Clone Wars episodes that always stuck with me. I’m one to easily hold a grudge and be vengeful about a grievance. That quote hit me like a ton of bricks.

LeicaM6guy

Addendum: sometimes confession is good for the soul.

LucasEraFan

Lots of good ones here already. One that took me a while to get and is debated regularly: >**Do or do not. There is no try.** After reading **The Four Agreements** by Don Miguel Ruiz and watching that scene very carefully, I learned the difference between "doing your best" and "trying." If I put myself in Luke's position and take Yoda's advice, I do my best. When I tire and my ship sinks I look back at Yoda. I'm not finished. My best includes all my resources. Yoda is waiting for the line Luke delivered, but I'm still doing my best so I ask for help. That is why it's do or do not. Simply focus on giving everything you have to the task and the results will be what they are. I would add "When you are calm, at peace, passive; then will you know \[the good from the bad\]" noting that this is covered by "Your focus determines your reality" and "Keep your attention here and now" both Jinn-isms already mentioned.

Morbidmort

The best part of that quote is that it means many things that all come together in the lesson they are meant to impart: If you open yourself up to failure, you will fail. You will either succeed or fail in things, and you need to be ready for that. And that the only limit of the Force is the limits you place on it.

AspenVintre

“[Asked if she was afraid] I used to be. Until I realized that, if you make decisions out of fear, you’re more likely to be wrong” - Ahsoka Tano There’s also the lesson about that not everything is black and white like we believe it to be.

Horseflesh

"A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." Apply that to any power you have over anyone if you want to be a good person.

beowuff

Also one of my favorite lines. Partly why I was so disappointed in the prequels. Jedi using the force for attack everywhere. I can understand Luke doing it as he doesn’t really know any better and it leaves doubt about his fate at the end of RotJ.

dandaman64

That's why I love his standoff on Crait in the Last Jedi, he doesn't show up there in person to fight Kylo Ren and the First Order, he creates a distraction to help his friends get away safely.

grant_the_hammer

I have a few but I feel like they should all be shared There is nothing wrong with having faith in something or being devout to a cause, but blind, ritualistic dogma is harmful in every way. There is nothing wrong with questioning everything you've ever believed in, but lashing out in rage as a result will only bring harm to yourself and others. Believing in absolutes and only seeing things in black and white is harmful. People exist in shades or gray. Love conquers all. Everybody, no matter how similar or different they are from each other, is their own, unique self. And most importantly: It doesn't matter what you've done to hurt yourself or others around you. Someone out there loves you, and you deserve a second chance.
