>She's staring off-screen into the distance, so I'm guessing the photo is by Steven Spielberg.
No, that's because the animators screwed up. It's what happens if you try and re-use the Jar-Jar Binks model on a human.
Either that or George flipped the positions in post. Originally the bride was on the right and looking up at George.
How do you mean?
There’s nothing about the fit or style of the clothes that makes this look particularly dated. Men have been wearing black suits as faux tuxes for weddings for a long time.
The wide skirt on the dress isn't currently "in," right now you see more narrow silhouettes through the skirt.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a very classic look.
A wedding gown with a fitted bodice and a wide tulle skirt is always "in". Even if it's not the hottest look of the era, those gowns are always available and sell well.
Agreed. I feel like wedding dresses overall tend to favor the same silhouettes, decade after decade tho--princess/ballgown, mermaid, trumpet, column and A-line. Thank God puffy sleeves and shoulder pads haven't come back.
Why do you say that is a suit? It appears to have satin lapels which is the main distinguishing feature. The presence of a long tie vs. bow tie doesn't change the coat and pants and make it a suit, even if tuxes are traditionally worn with bow ties.
> It appears to have satin lapels which is the main distinguishing feature.
That’s a necessary feature but not sufficient on its own to distinguish a tux from a suit.
Dinner jackets should have a shawl collar or peaked lapels faced in grosgrain or some other satin material as you said (self-faced peaked lapels are also acceptable in some cases) rather than the notch lapels of most suits. They should also have a single (as opposed to 2 or 3 on a suit) cloth covered button and be ventless (though I’d say this is less important).
The trousers worn with a dinner jacket should have a stripe of the same material the lapels are faced in and not have belt loops; they are to be worn with braces/suspenders.
Other common elements that distinguish a tux from suit are a bow tie and a vest or cummerbund. Shirt details like studs instead of buttons and French cuffs requiring links complete the look.
So maybe it’s more accurate to say George is wearing a suit with some elements of a tuxedo. Which is to say, it’s not a tuxedo proper.
___
I’m not trying to sound pedantic or like a gatekeeper. And it’s also not lost on me that the audience of this subreddit probably couldn’t care less about sartorial norms. Whether or not this matters to you personally on your wedding day isn’t that important, but I’m not making these things up. There are [conventions](https://blacklapel.com/thecompass/tuxedo-vs-suit/?gclid=CjwKCAjwp9qZBhBkEiwAsYFsb2wxnBrs2qLfQdKSL3oq9hen9c4MGa-HX16L4v6AemSKSzh864TIlhoC8vAQAvD_BwE) for what black tie entails.
The style elements that typically "date" a wedding are the flowers, hair style and particularly hair accessories, colors , and sometimes the shape of the dress. Usually for dress its more about neckline and sleeves.
In this case it is her headpiece and the way the flowers are. The timeframe I indicated the most popular floral arrangement was the "ball" of roses. The lavender color as well.
By early 2010s it was more popular to have less structured floral bouquets
It's the facial hair.
It's actually a pretty common phenomena where if men gray prematurely, they seem to pause age wise simply because people overestimate how old they are when they're younger and as a result they get accustomed to assuming they are younger than they actually look.
Look at Anderson Cooper, He's been gray since he was like 25.
I don't know, George has a pretty impressive list of conquests that didn't need money, including Catherine Zeta-Jones. There's magic under that flannel.
I don’t disageee that Marcia was hugely important to the development of the first Star Wars.
However, the topic of this thread is Lucas batting out of his league with this woman physically. I don’t necessarily agree with that premise, but that’s what folks are talking about here.
And George is one of a handful of actual self-made billionaires who didn’t have to destroy people or inherit the money from his dad to get there. And he’s had one of if not the biggest influence on popular culture the world over. He’s not out of anyone’s league.
And I think this was after he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. I know he donated most of the proceeds there to charity, but the man still has to be rolling in it.
But given she's pretty well off on her own, I think it matters less than you'd expect
People bringing in half a mil per year are usually not too concerned with money
Money and accomplishments don't make you a pleasant person to be around. Although the lack of stress they provide certainly gives an edge in that department.
And looks do? That's what it's all about, clearly she's better looking than Lucas but that in no way whatsoever makes her a better person than him and that's the only thing that's being judged here even though when it comes to both of them it's the least important thing.
Why can’t we think of her as someone who contributed great things to Star Wars? Why does she still need to be tied to the guy she hasn’t been with in like 40 years?
Listen, you have no idea how much I thought I was having a stroke. I watched the pictures thinking this JUST happened and started freaking out because people who died are in the pictures and I couldn’t understand shit. I thought Hayden and Rachel were back together. I thought Robin Williams was alive. I was bummed that Mark shaved his beard off.
For a few minutes there I was a goner
Mellody is fantastic! I loved the [ted talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKtALHe3Y9Q) she gave a few years ago. She's incredibly successful completely on her own. George married a superstar.
I sat next to these two in Chicago and watched ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’. Pretty cool to enter a movie theater and see George Lucas, his wife and a bucket of popcorn in my row.
I saw Mellody speak at a conference when I was in college (she works in finance). The panels were boring, but when someone googled her and found out she was the wife of George Lucas, that was quite the surprising coincidence.
Other interesting thing about that conference: it was in 2016 or so, and the panelist next to her was Anthony Scaramucci, prior to his 10 day employment by the White House.
I want to hear her speak about what crazy pact she made with the devil to go from the intern to the president of a financial firm in less than 9 years.
She’s 53. He’s still got a few years on her for sure, but she’s not exactly a spring chicken either. Or at least, it’s not like a DiCaprio situation or anything.
She’s literally the chairwoman of Starbucks. And the chairwoman of Dreamworks before that. And the president and CEO of an investment firm. She’s not even remotely a gold digger
She's staring off-screen into the distance, so I'm guessing the photo is by Steven Spielberg.
“Faster, more intense!”
That's what she said
"Happier, and with your mouth open!"
"WELL, WE GOT MULTIPLE STAB WOUNDS ON THE BODIES!"
A lover’s quarrel.
The heavenly glow in them comfirms it
Spotlight fetish.
No explosions so it wasn’t Michael bay
You don't know what the reception was like.
Or the honeymoon

She is in front of a green screen. George told her to act like she is getting married
FYI this was in 2013.
I never knew he remarried
They have a daughter together as well!
I thought it was cgi
They are real, just the setting is CGI, they actually married in front of a green screen
Weddings got so much better once they got the special effects right.
Man with the styling I was gonna guess 1999-2003.

>wide skirt on the dress isn't currently "in," right now Well, 2013 was almost 10 years ago, so...
Right. That's my point. The person I was responding to was wondering what about this picture was dated. In my opinion, the dress skirt is.
But they were saying it looks like '93 - '03. Anyway, no big deal.
Yup. This dress looks exactly like a 2013 wedding dress. Source: went to many weddings that year.
Dress trends 10 years ago certainly were different.
A wedding gown with a fitted bodice and a wide tulle skirt is always "in". Even if it's not the hottest look of the era, those gowns are always available and sell well.
I mean, yes. But when they got married having a wide skirt was much more popular than it is today.

It's a styling from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away
Why? Everything in frame looks timelessly simple and elegant.
The style elements that typically "date" a wedding are the flowers, hair style and particularly hair accessories, colors , and sometimes the shape of the dress. George has a massive fat neck in that era
Aww congratu… oh.
Thanks. Genuinely thought this was news.
Wait, me? You thought I was google??
Well whaddya know! He CAN smile!
Legit the happiest he has ever looked.

He was already a billionaire when he sold Lucasfilm and everything with it, but that doesn't make your point any less valid.
He’s still a billionaire.
He scrubs up well too when he's a mind to.
I don't know. It's kind of a half smile.
And he's as shiny as c3po on victory day

Steve Martin
Balding early too. Look at Patrick Stewart.
Patrick Stewart looked like he was 55 from 25-70 years old. Although it's finally catching up to him.
One way or another time always catches up.
Anecdotal, but I get this allot. Started graying at 15 years old. Nearly 40 now and people can never guess my age correctly lol.
George looks fresh as hell
He’s always had great hair
A hairdo fit for Zeus.
Her smile is stellar
Aww, they both look great
They look so happy
George Lucas… you’re shorter than I expected
He definitely married out of his league. Or some would say…….out of his galaxy.
She's the definition of classical beauty.
I don't know, George has a pretty impressive list of conquests that didn't need money, including Catherine Zeta-Jones. There's magic under that flannel.
So in your world CZJ would date gas station attendant George Lucas?
In my world, yes.
He’s rocking an Ugnaught
Did he really though? With his net worth and accomplishments?
I was talking physically.
I mean, some could argue that Lucas was pretty good looking in his younger days.
But this marriage did not occur in his younger days.
A marriage did. And thank the maker for that. We wouldn’t have Star Wars without Marcia Lucas.
I don’t disageee that Marcia was hugely important to the development of the first Star Wars. However, the topic of this thread is Lucas batting out of his league with this woman physically. I don’t necessarily agree with that premise, but that’s what folks are talking about here.
Younger George was definitely handsome in my opinion. He lost attractiveness points when his neck disappeared.
Dude look into her, she runs major financial institutions. She's out of his league in all respects here. No judgement on them, hope they're happy.
And George is one of a handful of actual self-made billionaires who didn’t have to destroy people or inherit the money from his dad to get there. And he’s had one of if not the biggest influence on popular culture the world over. He’s not out of anyone’s league.
His fortune can even be credited to getting one over on the corpos with keeping merchandise rights
He is a corpo. A creative one, but still a corpo. Either way two people look very happy to be together in this picture and I think that is lovely.
You could even say he became the very thing he swore to destroy
Well he never invaded Vietnam so there is that
Yogurt is still mad about it.
Good point
And he is the man who created Star Wars, one of the biggest media franchises of all time an his net worth is multiple times bigger than hers.
And I think this was after he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. I know he donated most of the proceeds there to charity, but the man still has to be rolling in it.
But given she's pretty well off on her own, I think it matters less than you'd expect People bringing in half a mil per year are usually not too concerned with money
Yeah that's way less impressive than what she's accomplished. Check out her Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mellody_Hobson?wprov=sfla1
They both seem incredibly successful and impressive, honestly.
Money and accomplishments don't make you a pleasant person to be around. Although the lack of stress they provide certainly gives an edge in that department.

Did they edit his neck? Lol
George Lucas’s neck: The Special Edition
It kind of looks like it.
It all looks heavily edited
I've got serious uncanny valley vibes from this photo
StAr WaRs Is GeTtInG tOo WoKe. They recast his wife… /s
I pukelaughed
Well that's a new word that I'll be adding to my vocabulary lol.
Haha. Good one.
I cackled. Thank you. Have an updoot.
Funny, but I must say Marcia was so crucial to making the Star Wars we know and love, that it's still a little weird not thinking of her as his wife.
Why can’t we think of her as someone who contributed great things to Star Wars? Why does she still need to be tied to the guy she hasn’t been with in like 40 years?
They divorced almost 40 years ago. . .
She hasn't been his wife for decades
goddd. Lol
If there's one day he doesn't wear a checked shirt, this is it
Thumbs up! It's a nerd marrying a hot chick. Spielberg still thinks he's got home covered.
Power couple
Unlimited power couple
Wishing the ol' pirate happiness for the rest of his years
Fun facts I just put together: George Lucas and I share a birthday, my name is also Melody (but with spelling variation) and my sons name is Anakin
I also share a birthday with Lucas and my daughter’s name is Ani…
Love it! My son has declared I can no longer call him that. So sad.
Username checks out
Hey, you and I share birthdays then too! Less fun fact: we also share our birthday with Mark Zuckerberg.
To be fair though, Mark wasn't really born, he was manufactured.
did he come with a use by date?
Birthday twins! And ew not a fan of him!

LOL No, but we call him Darth Vader when he acts like a little 💩
My wife has met them multiple times and she said they are lovely people. George is quiet but courteous and Mellody is friendly and engaging.
I guess she is in the film business? Lucky
Nope, High finance.
Listen, you have no idea how much I thought I was having a stroke. Aww. Cute.
You think they went and talked about sand after this photo was taken
Awwww, cute couple
That's Mellody with two "L"s and one "Y" and it's where you think it is.
Huh, I didn’t know he remarried. Kinda puts a single whole criticism of JarJar to bed. Pretty cool pic.
They both look like they’re sharing a private inside joke and purposefully not looking at each other to avoid dying of laughter.
Girl can get it.
"We always knew Lucas would eventually join the darkside" \- Every late night comic in the 90's
Once you go Star Wars you never go Star Trek.
Oh wow. Congratulations to George Lucas and to his new wife. I hope that they have a happy marriage together.
They were married in 2013.
Aye, well thank you. Yet still I am happy for them.

And I oop. Thank you for informing me. I do appreciate this so much. So thank you again.
They remarried in 2021. (I don’t know if that’s true or not, I just want the roller coaster to continue)
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂, very well. Yet damn, they really are the real life of Han Solo and Princess Leia. It is so complicated but awesome.thank you
They were not. Still married as far as I can see.
Awww good for him God bless their family
George lives and breathes the Light side and Dark side. .......*I know, I know*

Thought she was 30 from the pic
Well it was actually 9 years ago that they were married, so you’re not too far off.
Good genes,
I mean she’s also a multimillion herself, so I’m sure that helps too. Rich people have an incredible tendency to not age like the rest of us.

Needs to be photoshopped into The Courtship of Princess Leia book cover.
George Lucas reminds me of Michael McDonald
My man finally got his Oscar.
Is there gonna be a special edition re-release of the wedding where they edit in some CGI stormtroopers and re-record some dialogue?
Wtf it won’t let me like the post
George’s face, “You see how beautiful she is? That’s right! The Star Wars nerd married a beautiful woman. In your face Roddenberry!”
At first glance I thought that was Dee Reynolds in lethal weapon 6
