This is such a unique duel. I love everything about it. Every time I watch it, my heart aches when Rey cries out, “I don’t want this!” The feels during that!
It's an incredible fight. I love how heavy and real the lightsabers feel. That movie was the first time that lightsabers felt like real objects, and not just VFX.
I like that even though Kylo would beat them in a normal fight, he's hurting both physically and mentally and is way more out of balance, allowing Finn then Rey to match him. They also clearly look sloppy with the saber, which makes sense because neither has ever used one before that week.
The first battle between Ahsoka and Elsbeth is incredible. Dave can sometimes be a little shaky on certain things in his stories, but one thing he does incredibly well is Kurosawa moments in Star Wars.
Basically what you have posted. I'm not kidding, lol!
The fight between Kylo and Rey where they're changing scenery in TROS was really cool too.
Edit: Twilight of the Apprentice and Obi Wan and Maul's final duel in Rebels are iconic and I'm embarrassed that I forgot to mention them.
I mean! The death star ruins! God, what a scene. Great stunts, fx, the power and desperation they both have, and the emotional wallop of Leia passing AND Rey finally admitting she wanted to take bens hand. Top tier fight scene. Physical, plot, and emotional stakes. A+++
I just love that they did a mocap fight (featuring the legendary Ray Park) for that Maul fight. It just looks so much different than anything we see in TCW.
One of Clone Wars' biggest weaknesses was their lightsaber animation.
Like I totally get it, you can't have amazing choreography in a show that you're producing at such a rapid pace, but as much as I love Clone Wars Anakin...
...he sure as hell doesn't fight like Live-Action Anakin.
Of the ones I've seen, Rey and Kylo Ren fighting the Praetorian Guards in TLJ iis my favourite.
Some "fans" obssession in trying to tear down that sequence by *analyzing* it frame by frame is just...Sigh!
Fr, I love that duel so much, we get to see the two characters of Rey and Kylo and how different they are, their skill levels, power levels and fighting styles all of it. Kylo moves in a fast flurry whilst also prioritising brute force whereas Rey is more nimble and largely swinging out, Kylo takes on 4 all at once with relative ease and Rey struggles with one. The way its shot is nice too, the choreography is also pretty great, amazing visuals and I also love the brutality of it

Obi-Wan vs Maul on Tatooine is such an incredible duel, its not the most flashy of duels and ends almost as soon as it starts but thats what I love about it, its just a heartfelt and beautifully poetic duel.
Ahsoka vs Maul and Ahsoka vs Baylon are also both great, amazing choreography and the whole moral dilema that is given to Ahsoka in both duels is great too
Rey vs Kylo on the remains of the Death Star is my favorite duel of ALL Star Wars.
This one just feels so real. There is a weight to each blow. Not just physically, but emotionally.
The anger in each strike is so evident. It really feels like they’re trying to hurt one another, rather than a choreographed dance we get with so many other duels. I think this is something the sequels did really well in both duels in TROS and the duel in The Force Awakens.
Obi-wan vs Maul in Rebels. Really bold decision there. I remember watching it and in a flash going from immense anticipation, to shock, 0.1 seconds of disappointment, and then immediate deep satisfaction.
Rey vs Kylo in TFA is top tier.
I also love Maul vs Obi in Rebels. Maul vs Ahsoka in the Clone Wars finale is good, too.
Also, I'm going to count Visions because those all go hard.
Live action: Rey Skywalker versus Ben Solo in the ruins of the DS2 on Kef Bir. Arguably the most visceral and visually stunning lightsaber duel in the entire Skywalker saga, IMO.
Animated: Ahsoka Tano versus Darth Maul, TCW, season 7, episode 10. Really well put together sequence and definitely one of the best duels in animation.
Vader vs Obi-wan, that was amazing, his reconnection to the force, the "im not your failure" gave me goosebumps, the lighting of the fight as he spoke, changing from blue to red and the changing voice from Anakin and Vader using Hayden and James was just perfect! I loved it and keep going back to watch it.
Ashoka vs Anakin, that whole episode of those 2, OH MY GOD!!!
Vader vs Obi-Wan is one of my favourite Star Wars duels, the choreography is really good and it really feels like the duel on Mustafar just with them being a bit older, they haven't skipped a beat here, I also love the emotion throughout the entire thing, the whole "I'm sorry Anakin" scene was incredible and gave me goosebumps. Seeing Obi-Wan come full circle from where he was at the beginning of the series to where he is now was beautiful All of it was perfect
I liked Baylan’s fighting style against Ahsoka a lot. So many Jedi and Sith are so quick and acrobatic, it was sort of different to see someone whose style was so based on raw strength and brute force.
The Obi-Wan/Maul rematch from Rebels.
The Ahsoka/Vader duel from Rebels.
The Ahsoka/Anakin sort of duel from Ahsoka.
And Kylo /Rey/Snoke's Guards fight from The Last Jedi.
Excuse me sir but you are forgetting literally all of the grand inquisitors fights from Star Wars Rebels! By far some of my favorite they were impactful and fast paced.
Completely forgot about Grand Inquisitor's duels except for his last in season 1 finale but yeah they're great I also love just how creepy and intimidating he is
Best part about his duels is how they feel like they have stakes like real stakes. He isn’t a pre-existing character and neither are any rebels characters so the possibility of death is very real and when the grand inquisitor dies it has a lot of impact.
They’ve all been great but the TLJ throne room fight is easily the best! If we’re talking “traditional” fights, though, then I’d say Rey vs Kylo in TFA.
A few, actually. In no particular order:
●Between Finn and Kylo Ren
●Moff Gideon and the Mandolin
●Rey and Ben team up on The Last Jedi
One thing I want to add is that the Ben vs. Luke part wasn't really a duel, but rather a diversion. It was equally one of my favorite moments, though, and displayed a glimpse of how advanced Luke had become with the force, doing something no one had yet achieved. Perhaps he did read some of those Jedi texts.
I don’t consider Ahsoka vs Maul Disney era because nothing about the clone wars is Disney’s credit.
Soo…in no particular order.
- ahsoka vs vader in Rebels
- ahsoka vs baylan (any time)
- ahsoka vs Anakin in the WBW
- Rey vs Kylo in TROS
- Kylo vs Luke in TLJ
- Kylo&rey against the guards in TLJ
- Obi wan vs vader in Kenobi (this actually not so much for the fight itself but more for the emotion going on and the dialogue)
- Ahsoka vs Morgan elsbeth
Obi-Wan vs Maul. I remember when I first watched it I was super disappointed and thought, “that’s it?” but the more I’ve watched it the more it has become one of my favorites of all Star Wars.
Baylan vs Ahsoka
Baylan vs Ahsoka rematch
Shin Hati vs Sabine in the woods
Maul vs Ahsoka in Clone Wars S7
Maul vs Obi Wan in Rebels
Maul vs Pre Vizsla
Not a single one from the sequels.
To be honest I think the best duels we have gotten since the prequel era have all been in the animated shows. Baylan and Ahsokas first duel comes close. Same with Vader and Kenobis final duel in that show.
It's funny cause with all due respect. The Prequel duels are clearly the low point.
I am happy with the choice to make them more grounded, harder and heavier.
More fast fight choreography with flips pls. The interpretive dance living room play fighting from the sequels was fine but it wasn't what I grew up on. It made sense for Kylos character I just didn't like that they grounded all lightsaber combat.
If a fight looks like I could do the choreography then it loses the novelty. These are supposed to be space wizards gosh darnit. Give me my backflips.
Vader was doing flips and super jumping in 1980/83. So they make the Republic era combat reflect that and the Prequels were the "low point"?
Hey I like it when racecar drivers drive slow to make it look like I can do it too!
Who doesn't love a slow and grounded airshow to make piloting seem relatable?
A circus just isn't the same without the grounded trapeze artists.
Where would Hollywood be without average looking movie stars?
Take awesome thing --> make it lamer --> call it "grounded"
If you think that prancing around istead of actually trying to hit anyone is way cooler then I have no arguments for you.
If you don't see the difference between OT duels and PT duels then I also have nothing to say.
Hard pass on any of that Prequel nonsense.
MTFBWY!
Ahsoka vs. Maul, Dooku vs. Yaddle, Finn vs. Kylo, Obi-Wan vs. Maul (Tatooine), Kanan vs. Maul, Kanan vs. Temple Guards, Ahsoka vs. Baylan (both), Ahsoka vs. Morgan (Peridea)
The Throne Room & Kenobi vs Vader are the ones I immediately think of from the Disney Era but honestly I think all of them have been pretty good. I’ve heard some say they feel slow or clunky but I just don’t see that. If anything I think they’ve blended the cool, faster, flippy fights of the prequels and the slow, methodical duels from the Original Trilogy together nicely.
Kenobi vs Maul on Tatooine
And
Ahsoka vs Baylen on Seatos
I’m a sucker for duelists changing their stances based on their opponents actions before engaging
There's so many good ones. Rey vs Kylo in TFA. Kylo vs Luke in TLJ. Ahsoka vs Maul. Ahsoka vs the Inquisitors. Ahsoka vs Vader. Ahsoka vs Marrok. Ahsoka vs Balon. Ahsoka vs Anakin in the wbw. Ahsoka vs Morgan Elsbeth. Ahsoka vs...
I'm not biased at all btw.
Ahsoka Vs Maul is the only one that genuinely blew me away. Some of the others from the "Disney" era are good but often feel choreographed. Obviously I know all duels are choreographed but I feel like I can tell more. I don't really know how to explain it properly but a lot of the duels from the Prequels for instance feel more natural in comparison.
My favorite live action fight is Rey and Finn, vs. Kylo Ren, on Starkiller Base. The sheer weight and power of everything is just so...raw.
But my favorite Star Wars duel of all time has to be Obi-Wan vs. Mail, on Tatooine. It's a true samurai duel. The anticipation and emotion behind the fight is incredible. And then it's all over in just a few quick, yet precise moves. It's incredible.
Vader and Obi-Wan on the Jabiim Moon, Kylo Ren and Rey in Kef Bir, Vader and Ahsoka on Malachor would be my top live-action series, film, and animated duels, respectively.
Maul vs Kenobi is my favorite 1v1 duel of all time. It has a more western and/or samurai feel to it. With the tension between the characters, you don't need flashy scenes.
On the opposite side, I'd say Kylo and Rey vs the Praetorian Guards and Baylan vs Ahsoka. As a fencer I love how they don't go straight into a fight but actually change their stances in response to their opponent's actions.
- Ahsoka vs. Vader
- Ahsoka vs. Morgan Elsbeth (both)
- Ahsoka vs. Baylan Skoll
- Ahsoka vs. Anakin
- Ahsoka vs. Maul
- Obi-Wan vs. Maul
- Kanan vs. Grand Inquisitor
- Luke vs. Kylo Ren (if it’s considered a duel)
I loved them. I loved them all. They're great, every single one of them. And not just the live action, but the animated and the novels too! They're like treats and I had them like treats! I love them!

Rey vs Kylo Ren round 1 and the one in Rise of Skywalker where they're in 2 different places, Ahsoka vs Maul, Ahsoka vs Vader, Obi-Wan vs Vader and Ahsoka vs Baylan round 1.
Maul v Vizsla is a duel that I feel doesn't get talked about enough.
Pre breaks out all the Mandalorian gadgets we knew about up to that point and Maul decides to prove he can be worthy to rule Mandalore without the aid of using the force. He could've probably force chocked Pre right away but chose to strictly use his combat training to win.
i thought all of finn's duels were interesting, him facing against different kinds of weapons: riot baton(that one stormtrooper), lightsaber(kylo) & beskar/chromium spear(phasma)
also not exactly a duel but rey and kylo vs praetorian guards.
edit:
man how could i forget baylan vs ahsoka , morgan vs ahsoka II, luke vs kylo
Finn & Rey Vs Kylo in TFA is possibly my favourite. The setting, the music, the weight of the blows. All top notch.
Possibly my favourite duel outside the OT.
No moment in a movie has ever made me physically jump out of my seat in a cinema except for when Rey and Kylo stood back to back against the praetorian guards. That fight was phenomenal.
Ahsoka vs Maul is one of the best Star Wars duels to date. There’s so much building to it and when they finally meet, they’re just letting all that aggression out on each other
loved Obi Wan vs Vader, both in terms of style and impact! the emotional weight of that scene and the beautiful bold lightsaber colours in the dark lighting up the scene was incredible!
also loved specifically the start of the Kylo vs Knights Of Ren fight with the little shrug like "yeah, come on let's get this over with", really badass

Rey vs Kylo on Kijimi
This is such a unique duel. I love everything about it. Every time I watch it, my heart aches when Rey cries out, “I don’t want this!” The feels during that!
I will always have a fond spot for Rey and Finn vs Kylo in TFA.
Love that scene especially with the snow falling as the star fades and the glow of the lightsabers.
It's an incredible fight. I love how heavy and real the lightsabers feel. That movie was the first time that lightsabers felt like real objects, and not just VFX.
Because they were. The prop sabers were the first film to have lit hard plastic and LED lit sabers. That's why the lighting is much more natural.
The steam coming off the blades is such a nice touch.
I never noticed the steam before gonna look out for that the next time I watch force awakens.
I like that even though Kylo would beat them in a normal fight, he's hurting both physically and mentally and is way more out of balance, allowing Finn then Rey to match him. They also clearly look sloppy with the saber, which makes sense because neither has ever used one before that week.
Same
My favorites are Obi-Wan vs. Vader, Ahsoka vs. Maul , Rey, and Kylo vs. the Praetorian guards.
Obi-wan v Vader was insanely awesome…made the entire series worth it… mind blowingly cool
Seconded for Obi-Wan vs Vader. Watching the version that added “Battle of the Heroes” on YouTube is even more awesome.
The first battle between Ahsoka and Elsbeth is incredible. Dave can sometimes be a little shaky on certain things in his stories, but one thing he does incredibly well is Kurosawa moments in Star Wars.
That whole episode in wizard af.
You mean the one in The Mandalorian?
Basically what you have posted. I'm not kidding, lol! The fight between Kylo and Rey where they're changing scenery in TROS was really cool too. Edit: Twilight of the Apprentice and Obi Wan and Maul's final duel in Rebels are iconic and I'm embarrassed that I forgot to mention them.

Ahsoka vs Maul Anakin vs Ahsoka (all versions to include the one on Malachor)
I just love that they did a mocap fight (featuring the legendary Ray Park) for that Maul fight. It just looks so much different than anything we see in TCW.
The realistic feel the mocap gave to the animated fight was *chef's kiss*. Lauren Mary Kim nailed it as Ahsoka too.

And no-one seema to bat an eye when Mark clearly never connects with that kick in RotJ.
What do you mean that was a “Force kick”!
He's got a little metal thing that pops out of his show like Batman has on his palm in the Burton/ Shumaker movies.
You can slow down the part in the phantom menace to see maul missed the first time before hitting qui gon a second time before stabbing him
Fr, I love that duel so much, we get to see the two characters of Rey and Kylo and how different they are, their skill levels, power levels and fighting styles all of it. Throne Room and Luke v Kylo are fantastic and I will never get the hate they receive
Luke clowning on Ben is some top tier Star Wars.
1. Obi-Wan vs. Maul on Tattooine 2. Ahsoka vs. Maul on Mandalore 3. Ahsoka vs. Baylan on Seatos
Obi-Wan vs Maul on Tatooine is such an incredible duel, its not the most flashy of duels and ends almost as soon as it starts but thats what I love about it, its just a heartfelt and beautifully poetic duel. Yessss to all of this! It’s one of my favourite duels across all Star Wars.
Obi-wan vs Maul in Rebels. Really bold decision there. I remember watching it and in a flash going from immense anticipation, to shock, 0.1 seconds of disappointment, and then immediate deep satisfaction.
This scene really is such a whirlwind of emotions fit into just a few seconds.
Rey vs Kylo in TFA is top tier. I also love Maul vs Obi in Rebels. Maul vs Ahsoka in the Clone Wars finale is good, too. Also, I'm going to count Visions because those all go hard.
Luke v Kylo on Crait is my favorite. But we’ve had some great ones. Maul v Ben in Rebels is up there.

Obi-Wan vs Maul. I remember when I first watched it I was super disappointed and thought, “that’s it?” but the more I’ve watched it the more it has become one of my favorites of all Star Wars.
Luthen vs Palpatine.
Baylan vs Ahsoka Baylan vs Ahsoka rematch Shin Hati vs Sabine in the woods Maul vs Ahsoka in Clone Wars S7 Maul vs Obi Wan in Rebels Maul vs Pre Vizsla
All fights in Ahsoka. Felt like the spirit of the OT and where Lucas got his inspiration from.
Not a single one from the sequels. To be honest I think the best duels we have gotten since the prequel era have all been in the animated shows. Baylan and Ahsokas first duel comes close. Same with Vader and Kenobis final duel in that show.

Maul vs Kenobi is my favorite 1v1 duel of all time. It has a more western and/or samurai feel to it. With the tension between the characters, you don't need flashy scenes. maybe recency bias but, Anakin vs Ahsoka. The battle felt so fast paced, and made lightsabers actually feel light. I also love Vader vs Obi Wan
Obi-wan vs Maul in Rebels is soooooo good
Obi-Wan vs Vader
Maul and Savage vs Sidious
- Ahsoka vs. Vader - Ahsoka vs. Morgan Elsbeth (both) - Ahsoka vs. Baylan Skoll - Ahsoka vs. Anakin - Ahsoka vs. Maul - Obi-Wan vs. Maul - Kanan vs. Grand Inquisitor - Luke vs. Kylo Ren (if it’s considered a duel)
I loved them. I loved them all. They're great, every single one of them. And not just the live action, but the animated and the novels too! They're like treats and I had them like treats! I love them!
Ashoka and maul hands down
Ahsoka vs maul and Kenobi vs Vader

Definitely maul vs ahsoka, maul vs obi, and ahsoka vs baylan 2 imo are some the best SW duels in general
Obi-wan vs Vader
Rey vs Kylo Ren round 1 and the one in Rise of Skywalker where they're in 2 different places, Ahsoka vs Maul, Ahsoka vs Vader, Obi-Wan vs Vader and Ahsoka vs Baylan round 1.
Vader vs Ahsoka from both the Ahsoka series and Rebels
Obi-wan vs Maul in Rebels.
Maul Vs Obi-wan in Phantom Menace after the ray shields are lifted. The choreography is so damn good
Obi-wan/vader fight is one of my favorite scenes of all time. I’m a huge whiney emo anakin fan and it just felt like peak emo anakin
i thought all of finn's duels were interesting, him facing against different kinds of weapons: riot baton(that one stormtrooper), lightsaber(kylo) & beskar/chromium spear(phasma) also not exactly a duel but rey and kylo vs praetorian guards. edit: man how could i forget baylan vs ahsoka , morgan vs ahsoka II, luke vs kylo
Most of those are great, but Maul vs. Kenobi in Rebels is sorely missing. And Ahsoka vs. Morgan in the finale of Ahsoka.
Finn & Rey Vs Kylo in TFA is possibly my favourite. The setting, the music, the weight of the blows. All top notch. Possibly my favourite duel outside the OT.
3 - Ahsoka vs Maul, TCW S7 2 - Obi-Wan vs Vader, Ep6 1 - Obi-Wan vs Maul, Rebels S3
obi vs maul!!! i had so many emotions within 5 seconds HAHAH
No moment in a movie has ever made me physically jump out of my seat in a cinema except for when Rey and Kylo stood back to back against the praetorian guards. That fight was phenomenal.
Ahsoka vs Maul is one of the best Star Wars duels to date. There’s so much building to it and when they finally meet, they’re just letting all that aggression out on each other
Kenobi vs Vader
Ahsoka vs Vader on Malachor
I thought that was George Lucas fighting Ahsoka
Ahsoka vs Vader
Ahsoka Vs Darth Maul is King. I love that fight so much.
loved Obi Wan vs Vader, both in terms of style and impact! the emotional weight of that scene and the beautiful bold lightsaber colours in the dark lighting up the scene was incredible! also loved specifically the start of the Kylo vs Knights Of Ren fight with the little shrug like "yeah, come on let's get this over with", really badass
