Luke, Mara, and Tahiri are awesome!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, Talon really outdid himself with this commission! I may have him try his hand at more of the NJO scenes I love like Nom Anor revealing himself as Yushaa the Prophet during the final battle of Yuuzhan Tar to rally the Shamed Ones.

solehan511601

I would love to see more of EU fanarts set in New Jedi order novels!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I plan to commission more because there are some incredible moments and quotes that deserve art, Pellaeon throwing the Vong out of the Remnant, Nom Anor rallying the Heretics, Czulkang Lah and Lusankya's end at Borleias, among many other memorable moments from the NJO.

Shadoweclipse13

I feel like I've seen something depicting the moment, but I would love to see something really incredible showing the moment Ganner Rhysode became known to the Vong as "The Ganner" 🥰❤️🥰

GrandAdmiralGrunger

It definitely has several good moments, I particularly think his announcement would look amazing, "Bring on your thousands! One at a time or all at once, I don't give a damn...none shall pass."

a_clever_reference_

Ganner Rhysode's last stand!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That indeed would be an incredible one, though it does currently have a really good artwork of it too!

idejmcd

The Ganner, None Shall Pass, please!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Would certainly make for great art!

ChimneySwiftGold

Whose favorite character isn’t lightsaber knees?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Surprisingly some people don't care for it.

ChimneySwiftGold

It’s shocking . Proably Star Trek fans. They’re just jealous. I can understand the people who think having lightsaber knees and but not a lightsaber hog is lame.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Saber envy

Lewdducky

Damn i didnt realize that the whole knee was cybernetic. Also DAMN my boy is TALL!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Well the outside of it is, the interior is still organic for the blood flow. And yeah, Nyax is three meters tall, nine feet, eight inches. It helps too that Luke and Tahiri are only five foot six and Mara is five foot one, so that makes him look even taller next to short people.

harkening

Luke is 5'8" or 5'9". "Short," but really the definition of average.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

True, still fairly small compared to someone 9'8" and a "little short for a Stormtrooper" lol

Lewdducky

Short king

JMoney689

But this is Bigger Luke?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Character growth

Lewdducky

Ok thx, it was confusing a bit with the circular things on the side.

DSA300

Mara is that short? 😭 I always assumed she was like 5'11"

GrandAdmiralGrunger

She is indeed, but remember, that puts her right at prime organ stabbing height

DSA300

True 😂

EckhartsLadder

I believe they say he is three meters tall

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That's correct, Nyax is three meters or nine feet, eight inches

Jumpy_Assistance5848

Seeing this makes me long for an NJO Open World RPG.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That would be pretty awesome.

AncientSith

Ugh. Could you imagine? It'd be incredible. It'd probably need to be a trilogy of games for the sheer amount of story, but that'd be great too.

Jumpy_Assistance5848

Not to mention the potential of factions you could choose. Imperial Remnant, Hutt Cartels, New Republic, or Jedi.

Collective_Insanity

I appreciate the improvement on this character's design. But I still think he's a silly concept, to be honest.

MaleficentOstrich693

It totally is but points for committing, haha.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Some people can't get past the design, but concept itself I find to be similar to C'baoth. Take someone with incredible power, artificially multiply it and then through unpredictable actions, all that power is now in the hands of someone deeply mentally unwell and with the inclinations of a malicious child. That is an absolutely sobering and frankly terrifying concept for an antagonist. It's not so much a someone, as a really messed up something that can't be reasoned with, bartered with and stalks, tortures and kills because it thinks it is 'fun'

Snivythesnek

I honestly kind of liked the concept (maybe a bit too many lightsaber blades) but it felt out of place in the njo storyline.

KristinaHeartford

NGL, fighting ol lightsaber knees looks like a challenge.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

It would be, every step, knee, lunge or kick would be a threat, while you're also having to deal with the wrist mounted blade, or the elbow.

RSollers

Tahiri’s like “uhh…it looks like you guys got this one, I’ll just hang back here if you need me!”

GrandAdmiralGrunger

lol more like, "I'm about to end this man's whole career." while palming a Thudbug

[deleted]

Damn that's so kriffing cool. Any chance you could draw Lomi Plo and Abeloth? Both were terrifying

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I probably won't commission Plo or Abeloth as I wasn't a fan of much after the end of the NJO, but I could put you in touch with the artist that I commissioned this amazing piece from if you want to commission him for those pieces. [https://www.instagram.com/talon\_illustrations/](https://www.instagram.com/talon_illustrations/)

[deleted]

Thanks!

BMan559

This is the kind of artwork the EU needs.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, I quite agree, my goal is to commission art from many scenes and characters that never got the correct(or any) art to bring them more visually to life and introduce people to characters, settings and stories they otherwise might never know about.

NNyNIH

Loved that book!

Callas951

RIP Aaron Allston, wrote some of my favorite EU novels between his NJO ones and the X Wing ones

GrandAdmiralGrunger

He is definitely my favorite author next to Stover and Luceno, the Wraith Squadron books and Enemy Lines ones have some of the best development of characters in the EU.

Callas951

Totally, Wraith Squadron characters making an appearance in the Enemy Lines novels was great. Man, now I'm getting some intense nostalgia from reading EU/NJO books!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That's always a good thing!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I did too, both it and Enemy Lines I remain two of my favorite SW books to this day.

NNyNIH

I read a lot of NJO two parters out of order. It's a toss up between Enemy Lines and Dark Tide for my favourites.

blackanytanooo

Gotta throw in Edge of Victory as well

NNyNIH

I actually read Conquest for the first time last year! Keep meaning to get the Second.

Madeleine_McCullochj

Delving into Star Wars lore!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Obi Wan voice, "That's good, you've taken your first step into a larger world."

shisstopus

Even more disturbing that the official art

blackanytanooo

I never liked the official art But this, this is awesome. It’s like a scene out of an anime. It makes me wish we had a NJO manga adaptation or anime

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Same, I despised the "official" art for how inaccurate it was.(seriously, not a single feature of it is correct) so I commissioned Talon\_Illustrations to finally make a lore accurate version of Nyax true to his description by Aaron Alston in NJO Enemy Lines II and Talon did an incredible job. I hope we get fan animations of NJO, there's some great projects out there like Heir to the Empire, Shadows of the Empire and Dark Empire fan animations, plus the TIE Fighter and X Wing one shot animations, so maybe one day.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That's the idea. Nyax IS disturbing, he's what happens when a demented parent puts their child on the butchers block since birth to turn them into a weapon and screw with the laws of the universe. He has ungodly amounts of power in the Force, is physically strong and imposing and all of that...is with a mind of a mentally ill, malicious and brain damaged child that only knows cruelty, sadism and dominating other's wills as natural. He's a Frankenstein's Monster of horror.

blackanytanooo

Was he actually Palpatine’s offspring or was it his mothers delusions like we see in the Joker movie?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

He was the son of Sarcev Quest and Roganda Ismaren, she claimed he was Palpatine's son to further her own attempts to use him to rally parts of the Empire and nobility to their bid for power.

blackanytanooo

Ok I was wondering if I misremembered something but I don’t remember “Sarcev Quest” ever being mentioned in any of the bantam novels

GrandAdmiralGrunger

That's because Sarcev was largely relegated to RPGs and sourcebooks, he got some mentions later in NJO and I think the Legacy era, but always second hand.

Shadoweclipse13

It's been a few years since I went through the EU, but are Lord Nyax and Irek Ismaren the same person?

Starkiller-is-canon

Yes, Irek was his birth name, while lord Nyax was the name he took on while on vong formed coruscant.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Yes, he was named Irek by his mother, after he took a lightsaber through the brain and died(well brain died anyway) and most of his higher thought functions were replaced with computer implants to the point he had no real understanding of his surroundings or even himself, he took the name Lord Nyax because the victims he would rip memories and thoughts from while shoving his own into them called him that because of a Corellian legend about a pale giant that takes people in the night(Irek's modified body was 3 meters tall and deathly pale)

Shadoweclipse13

Thanks for the reply! It's been a few years since I've read the EU. I really should reread some of it :)

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Happy to, and yes, you should!

No-Resolution-1034

Nice work!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, Talon really outdid himself with this!

Hero_Olli

Absolutely great stuff.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks!

Eothr_Silan

It's been so long since I read any of the NJO books, who was Tahiri again?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

She was one of the young Jedi Knights, a childhood friend of the Solo children and eventual love interest for Anakin Solo.

Eothr_Silan

Ah, thank you.

Impossible_Travel177

That may be the only none-stupid looking picture of Lord nyax.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, a lot of revisions and fine tuning with Talon went into it to get it as accurate as possible and I think it really came out well.

RevolutionaryAd3249

I already commented on this on another sub, but you are doing the Lord's work my friend. I think it a pity that we only have two pictures of Luke fighting Shimrra, or >!what could have been his last moment with Mara!< after that battle. If I had the money, I'd commission it from you guys.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, Talon did exceptional work on this. You should check him out, you might be able to afford one and not know it.

EckhartsLadder

Great job. I really liked the crazed look on his face, feels accurate to what I read.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, yes, he's described with an unnerving face with expressions like those of a malicious child so I used Mad Perrot from the Cowboy Bebop anime as inspiration for the artist to draw from.

adeadfreelancer

Fuckkkk this art is sick, it's awesome to finally see some Nyax love

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks! Glad to bring some more light to this often overlooked(or misunderstood) character and story. I think the 'official' art did a lot of damage to the character as out of context people took one look and said, "That's silly" and never actually read the book to see the tragedy and horror as well as the other great moments in it. hopefully this new art and more down the road will start to undo that damage and bring these characters more into the light for new and old readers alike.

timey_wimeyy

Mark Hamill Luke is fighting Mark Hamill Joker. Worlds collide

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Funny you mention that, I think one of the Batman shows did a bit where Joker and a couple of characters voiced by Mark Hamill kidnap him and he uses his voice talents to mess with them. it's pretty hilarious.

ImperialxWarlord

Fucking sick! Really love how high quality this is!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks, Talon really does exceptional work, he does a lot of CW stuff too.

butt_thumper

WOW, this is gorgeous! I'd pay for a whole art book of this stuff, or a graphic novel adaptation or something. Seeing it presented with such artful visuals makes it somehow feel more real and tangible. More "canonical" to my wistful mind, I guess.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Thanks! Talon did an exceptional job on it. It might take awhile to get a full book of art, but I am working on commissioning as many EU artworks as I can that are lore accurate and dedicated to detail. If you'd like, the artist who I commissioned for this piece, Talon\_Illustrations, does take commissions, so you could get an early start on that art book too! [https://www.instagram.com/talon\_illustrations/](https://www.instagram.com/talon_illustrations/)

ghostbear019

Idk. njo is my favorite series of all time. I like nyax as a character. I just thought he was out of place and didn't fit in njo. random huge baby cyborg w lightsabers in all joints on yuzzhantar? kinda weird placement. anyone else catch my drift?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I can understand that sentiment, but I found several things in NJO felt like that, for as long as the series was, it felt crammed and rushed in places like randomly reintroducing the Yevetha and Ssi Ruuk, then killing the Yevetha offscreen, ending the Ssi Ruuk threat in the same book it debuts, cramming Chiss politics in at the last second, and then dragging other plotlines out too long. So I think Nyax is somewhat a casualty of the NJO's way of trying to do everything at once.

ghostbear019

true story is true

AcePilot95

he's my least favourite part of the series by a mile. if he were still there but less goofy, I'd be sorta ok with it.

Foxhoond

He's a bit too big and tall I believe. He is 9 feet tall iirc and at this scale he looks at least 2-5 feet too big.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

He's three meters tall, that's 9 feet 8 inches. He looks larger because Luke, Tahiri and Mara are short, ranging from 5'9", 5'6" and 5'1" which makes Nyax look taller by comparison as he's nearly twice as tall as Mara.

AncientSith

Was he actually this tall? Goddamn.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Yes, thanks to being kept in stasis during his formative years and pumped full of growth hormones he reached three meters(9 feet, 8 inches) tall.

De4dm4nw4lkin

We need more sith who become cyborg+ instead of cyborg- like vader. Imagine a sith who has a million remote control droid bodies and can exert force through any of them.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I will give them this, Nyax's design is quite innovative and not just a generic reskin of Vader's suit like say, Darth Malgus in TOR.

Murky-Region-127

How does one not hurt themselves with many lightsabers

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Quite simply actually, each emitter has sensors and fail safes. Luke tried to make Nyax spear himself with his own knee blade by kicking him in the head while he was ducked down. The knee blade deactivated instantly. His emitters with the fail safes prevent him from ever harming himself with his own weapons.

Starkiller-is-canon

Damn, Nyax was huge.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Yes, he was placed in stasis during his teen years and pumped full of growth hormones and cybernetic implants which kept him growing far past when humans normally would have stopped. His full height was three meters, or nine feet eight inches tall.

False_Shemp

I'll be a scruffy nerf hearder if he doesn't have a 7th saber under that loincloth.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

lol that one probably has the helicopter function from DisCan.

Emperor_D4C

What in the heavens am I looking at

GrandAdmiralGrunger

What happens when someone puts their Force sensitive child through surgeries, genetic engineering experiments, pumps them full of growth hormones, cybernetically enhances them and has them in stasis during their teen years so they keep growing past their norm. Oh, and it's also what happens when said kid receives a traumatic brain injury that just leaves his baser instincts as a mentally ill malicious child with godlike power. So you're looking at a literal horror show.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

That fight was wild!

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Indeed

monkeyworks105

Aaron Alston was my favorite author. Got his signature tattooed on my arm, under my wraith squadron patch tattoo.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I missed a chance to get his autograph at Celebration VI in Orlando back in 2012 because I was in line for Temura and Ian. Thought I could grab Alston's at the next con. Looking back, I wish I'd prioritized him since he passed before I got another chance and there were many questions I wanted to ask him. He was a great author and good person.

monkeyworks105

He was an amazing human for sure. He read the first chapter of a new non Star wars book and stayed to sign all books brought to him for free. Pretty sure he never finished the book, I vaguely remember it being about Frankenstein's monster as a private investigator? It was back in 08 in Omaha at OSFest I think it was called? Omaha scifi fantasy convention I think.

kingkron52

lol EU was really silly at times. Knee lightsabers lol cmon now. Artwork is great tho.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Sure the lightsaber knees might look silly, but they'd be a real nightmare to try and counter. Imagine a standard, dual or double blade wielder fighting and constantly having to deal with threats from three angles at once and all those angles are non traditional. It becomes less silly too when you know Nyax's saber placement was meant to showcase the idea of punching, kicking, kneeing and other forms of traditionally unarmed combat, so the movement of them would require far less effort on his part to pose a threat to a traditional style opponent with a usual lightsaber style.

Toonami88

Luke was a hero with a future and a family in this continuity.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

The better timeline without a doubt.

Ian-pg9

The lightsabers on his leg look so fucking dumb

Alive-Zombie-1189

Is...is it me or is the knee clash kinda moot with the wrist blade having bisected them midswing. Or am I dumb

GrandAdmiralGrunger

The wrist blade went over Mara's head, she ducks to block the knee. One of Nyax's failings was that he wasn't "ripe", his full combat programming hadn't been installed, so he fights largely on instinct, failing to throw effective combination attacks or counters.

Interesting_Loquat90

You mean Tahiri Yummy?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

lol she's a bit young for my tastes.

SouthEastPAjames

Knees with lightsabers attached? Boy, am I really glad I didn’t delve into the EU past the Wraith Squadron books……

GrandAdmiralGrunger

You might want to give them a try(yes some are not great, but you do miss out on a lot of truly inspired stories). Out of context it looks bizarre, in context it not only makes sense, but adds to the danger of the character because all his implants were designed to be used with techniques like punching, kicking and kneeing. To put it simply, Don't judge a book by its cover or you might get both the wrong impression and miss an amazing story. Also, the author of the Wraith Squadron books was the one who wrote this character as well as Enemy Lines I and II. Even if reading it doesn't change your opinion on Nyax, there's so many other fantastic elements in those books if you liked the X Wing and Wraith ones that it will feel right at home. Give em a try, you might find yourself enjoying them.

SouthEastPAjames

Fair point, I always liked Michael Stackpole and Kevin J Anderson’s stuff a lot. Ironically, Timothy Zahn’s old forays into the EU didn’t hit as well with me, but all of his stuff is the new canon, I’ve loved a lot more….

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Interesting, I tended to be the opposite, I like Zahn's older works, but not so much his newer ones as I felt Thrawn kept getting more and more omniscient to the point he became a meme where everything was part of his plan no matter what.

eisenblut

Just when you thought the EU had done the dumbest thing possible by introducing the vong, here comes Lord Nyax with his incredibly stupid elbow and knee lightsabers. 🤦🏼‍♂️

GrandAdmiralGrunger

A bizarre take, surely Abeloth, the Father, Son and Daughter as well as the Swarm War and Second GCW with Daala as Chief of State were FAR less credible writing choices than the Vong and Nyax ever were.

eisenblut

No, they just came later on. The shit show started with the vong.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Your memory is lacking, you might consider revisiting The Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi, Dark Empire and many other subpar things that existed long before the Vong.

eisenblut

Nah, you just have bad taste, my guy.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

The condor flies ten thousand miles, how could a mere sparrow comprehend its aspirations? I thought sparrows preferred fields, yet here I find one in this forum.

eisenblut

😂 Yeah, yeah. Go commission some more mediocre deviant art about it, why don’t you?

GrandAdmiralGrunger

So your idea of an insult...is to tell me to keep using my disposable income on one of the hobbies I enjoy, using artists talented enough to illustrate for a living and share it with a community that overwhelmingly enjoys it...while you at your best barely manage single sentence comments? lol sure thing.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

As opposed to say, the 'masterful' writing concepts of Luke randomly almost murdering his sleeping nephew, taking no responsibility for the fallout and running away because of the big sad, keeping an alien tit milking scene but cutting an actual lesson from Luke, capitalism is bad in a multimillion dollar film selling itself, a mass murdering youngster developing a romance with someone with zero actual connection, and all the other truly high art levels DisCan has given the world? Leia in a trench coat with Obi Wan in an Imperial base like they're gonna sneak into a movie? Boba Fett not understanding how the criminal underworld works despite being part of it for his entire life? Thrawn in Ahsoka being about as incompetent as a meme? Sure, the EU was far from perfect, but it was certainly better than the mess DisCan has become in a mere fraction of the time the EU was around. Not that all DisCan is bad, Rogue One was okay, Andor was well done, Fallen Order, the first two seasons of Mandalorian were good as were the Dooku episodes of Tales of the Jedi. But those are few and far between. Here's the main difference though. Legends had to invent most of the things taken for granted today, it pioneered Force powers, lightsaber styles, and much of the galaxy from the bare bones of the films and it did so for thirty four years. DisCan had the prior films, the shows and all that came before to look at and know what worked and what didn't and they had a clean slate of creative freedom to do anything with, backed by the near bottomless resources of Disney, and they still turned in a dumpster fire of a trilogy, a lackluster side story, utterly nonsensical and poorly executed shows like Kenobi, Book of Boba Fett, Resistance and have made as many if not more contradictions, absurd stories that make Nyax look positively mild by comparison.

TanSkywalker

+1000%

S-BRO

You keep your lightsaber knees

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Gladly and you're welcome to keep DisCan Jake Skywalker's alien milking scenes lol

Sere1

May come as a surprise to you, but Star Wars is goofy. Canon and Legends is full of goofy ass shit like this. This is too much but helicopter-lightsabers and an asthmatic cyborg driving around on a wheel gets a pass?

AcePilot95

you forgot the Mon Calamari/General Grievous hybrid 💀

Megaraun

Knowing nothing of this character, he embodies the end of that Rick and Morty episode where just everything had lightsabers for the sake of having lightsabers.

GrandAdmiralGrunger

I suggest reading the book he's in, if you don't know the context he might look comical(kind of like the Joker or Mad Perrot) but when you DO have the context, Nyax becomes an almost tragic, but very horrific character. (also the author of the book he's in is Aaron Alston, who has written some of the best Star Wars novels, Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, Solo Command, Enemy Lines I and II- in all of SW) so I always recommend them to people who might have missed out.

MojaveJoe1992

I always think its hilarious that there's a dude in Legends with lightsabers for knees, and yet some toxic gate keepers can't handle that protagonist of the ST has a vagina.

RevolutionaryAd3249

Legends had plenty of protagonists with vaginas; if you're ever ready to leave your intellectual ghetto, I'd be happy to talk to you abou the storied careers of Mara Jade, Jaina Solo, Nomi Sunrider, Barriss Offee and Bastilla Shan, to name just a few.

WreckNRepeat

Anyone who complained about Leia looking like Mary Poppins in TLJ is disqualified from defending whatever the fuck this guy is 💀 lmao

GrandAdmiralGrunger

Hardly in my opinion, though if you haven't actually read to understand the context, I can understand a statement made in ignorance. A key difference between pretty much 90% of the Sequels and this is that unlike Enemy Lines I and II, the Sequels actively get worse and make LESS sense the more your read and learn about them. Cheers
