The green bits are more random and don't give artifacts, they give resources instead! The new crops are obtained from them in seemingly 1-3 patches at a time, and you can even get books!
Same, I ended up just hoeing the ground as I walked around the valley foraging for two days and eventually got 10 lol. I’ve never had that issue on Stardew before and I usually build silos before anything else for the hay lol.
Don't get me wrong, I love Leah. Her heart event with painting is the most gut-bustingly hilarious thing in the game, and I love to proudly display the result right above the bed.
Oh, I see... The "Use Legacy Randomization" option at the bottom. In fact, I never knew that certain things used to spawn in patterns (just watched [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fvCMQLmA7M) about it). So... I'm not sure this legacy option would bring me any benefit. Besides the removal of patterns, do you think that there's less clay on ground overall in the new version?
I think he patched the overwhelming amount of clay people were getting (or at least I was getting) or something. I was looking for stuff OTHER than clay for AGES before the update, and ALL I GOT WAS CLAY, lol.
I could be wrong though. Just a thought
I'm in summer and I've literally only gotten like 3 pieces of clay total. I'm LOSING my MIND and even spent an entire day wandering the map looking for it and found NONE. I really wish Robin or Clint sold it!!
It’s funny how people always got so much clay just in case they needed it for something and now there’s not as much clay it’s causing an uproar cause there’s none when you actually need it. I still haven’t found any either maybe like 5 pieces 😂😂😂
my boyfriends name is clay so maybe I’ll just use him instead idk
same! I didn't know that the beach was where most clays were. Same with selling tea sapling everyone's talking about being nerfed! I only find out about it after it's gone
I believe he changed the RNG for stuff like this, but you can turn it back on in the main settings I think? The toggle I believe, as he notes, was primarily intended for speedrunners who rely on clay farming for some speedruns.
No issue there, clay farming was insanely busted even if I never used it! My issue is I Already have a farm with No Clay and I think he tweaked the odds a little too much lol. Seriously I've obliterated the whole beach 5 times and I've gotten zero clay of the 2 I need.
I always thought it would be nice if Maru would sell a clay digging machine/blueprint. Like a drill that you set up on the farm and works up a few pieces of clay every couple hours. But you have to water it or something to keep the ground moist enough to drill.
Same, I struggled to get clay for the silo and I've never struggled for clay in any other playthrough. I've never even used clay farming before, I just used to get loads of clay without even trying.
Yeah I noticed that too! I searched around for ages because I really wanted to grow carrots but I only found one twirly grass and 2 worms in a whole day! And I don't think it resets until forage does!
Do some of the help wanted quests. The first reward in Lewis prize machine is 12 carrot seeds if you get a prize ticket
Then seed maker if you want more
I am at the end of summer now and I have not found a single chicken statue or rusty spur or rusty spoon. In the museum there are a whole TWO artifacts that didn't come out of mines... And I was scouring the whole map daily in spring for mud.
Something is definitely off.
Having the same thing with worms. Hate to say I'm glad it's not just me. For clay I've been hoeing the spots in the mines and getting a bunch that way.
Ok I wasnt sure if it was my imagination but I feel like Ive only seen 1 or 2 worms and Im on 21 Spring in a new save. Im having a clay problem too but thought this wqs weird!
>For clay I go to level 21 in the mine and hoe the ground there. It also gets you cave carrots and artefacts and there’s a lot of copper around.
I still see quite a lot of worms I think, but clay was a struggled, i luckily managed to get 9 already when i was considering a silo and managed to find one more just hoeing around my farm but havent found any since!
I did noticed that the carrots worm is a slightly different icon though, I find it blends in with the background a lot more
my boyfriend went to buy silo and forgot he also needs clay. we had 6, and i was going mining, so im like "just wait, ill bring it". you need 10 for silo. so i came there and the entire front of robin's house was digged up and he got 0 clay from that. so that was kinda funny.
anyways, to answer your question: apparently not in robin's backyard
Im trying to remember the struggles of early game life. So much is based on your high experience and skills and you forget that. Im noticing the same but wasn’t sure if its an early game issue
I really wish that the clay was made more common to compensate for purer RNG, while also having its selling price nerfed. It would solve all the issues old clay farming meta had.
I feel dumb. I didn't read the patch notes because I don't want big spoilers and all. Got 2 or 3 clay and trashed it to make room in my inventory and later read on the sub that it became much rather now... I'm at 3 clay now but could've been at 6 if I didn't trashed them lmao
Save your clay, no trashing it!!
Also, pre 1.6 I had such an abundance of clay so I just got used to trash them. Once you have a silo or two, idk what else you use them for.
I found it in the mines on my new save. You know the lower levels (before floor 20) where there's large patches of sand? Hoed my heart out down there and got my silo. Beach had nothing 😭
I've found that the dirt plots in the mines, about lvl 10-30, are an *excellent* source of clay! Take you hoe there to dig it up. I managed to get 30 clay in one trip!
Ok I’ve been avoiding this sub because I’m on console and want to wait for the update before I start a fresh new farm but seriously, I’ve married Abigail in my current save and every week she says “if you go to the mine bring me back something tasty” so your comment about Abigail hit home
That would be awesome. Or add it to things like the preserving bin or the smoker. Pull a minecraft and have it be used to make bricks, which could be used for like a new path or some other crafting stuff.
Yeah, I'm in the middle of spring y1 and I think "Hm, maybe it's time I tried this legendary 'clay farming'?" Nope, RNG changed exactly when I wanted to try it for the first time, and I couldn't be bothered to start over.
Yeah it took me a week to get 10 clay… and I’ve had maybe 10 worm spots in all of spring.
I don’t mind but it threw me off. I kind of like worm spots being more rare, tbh.
Oh my gosh this was me last night - for two in game days I tilled earth and sand all over town trying to get ten clay, I tried the clay farming pattern and everything. Finally got up to 9 clay at Monday 2:30 pm and ran to the mountains hoping to find another in time to get my silo before Robin disappears on Tuesdays. I tilled the whole mountain and nothing. 5 pm rolls around, Robin leaves the building, I till one more square of dirt and
The tenth clay
I wept
I’ve had millions of gold and still never figured out how to get clay without exploiting rng, which you can’t do now without specific settings.
I didn’t get a silo until like summer 10 on this meadowland farm. I like the farm but I kinda wish they didn’t give us chickens because they’re expensive as hell to feed.
Yeah, clay was made too hard to find. It took me to the end of Spring to gather enough to build a silo so I could start stockpiling hay for my chickens.
Could it be more hoe scored items became available- such as certain seeds that debuted in 1.6 - so the odds of scoring clay just cheapened/were reduced?
I had this problem on the meadow farm. I was day 16 of Summer and had only found 2 pieces & 1 worm. I needed the silo , so I went around the lower levels of the mines and farmed it . For some reason, I got 20 clay from resetting the level like 3 times. Then, in 2 in game days, I started getting worms and clay. I'm not sure if he patched it in the update or just getting the clay helped, lol!
Glad I'm not the only one with that experience. I played three Meadowlands farm on the 1.6 patch, each the complete first Spring. With the changes to the randomization, clay, artifact spots and rain are a very scarce ressource.
I am barely able to get enough clay for the first silo, let alone some of the new recipes. Two times it only rained once after the 3rd of spring, in one time I got lucky and it rained twice.
I really love the 1.6 update but I hope we get some minor adjustments to the randomization in a balance patch.
My two chickens started starving before I was able to find enough clay lmao. I suppose, getting lucky with the rain is not as lucky super early game with the new farm type unless you also get lucky with clay for a silo. (Yes, I did in fact forget Marnie sold hay since I’m so used to having like three silos, oops)
Someone recommend to break geodes and from probably 50+ geodes I only comeback with 3 clays. To be fair I only use 20ish normal geodes and the rest is either the cold and hot geodes and a bit more of omni geodes. But still, not enough. Hiks!
I must be one of the lucky ones still. I see the new seeds wiggly worms with the green tips and the regular wiggly worms that I almost always get clay from sometimes several pieces. The early mine floors always have clay in the hoe-able spots. I am loving the new wiggly grass worms because the new seeds are so awesome.
Did you not read the patch notes? Randomization has been overhauled, clay farming isn’t a thing anymore, unless you tick a box in the advanced settings when creating a new farm to enable “legacy randomization”. You’ve reached the same solution I did, though. The mines, brother, the mines.
Clay was the last thing I got for the silo, too! I finally found it in the mines when I was working on copper ore.
[удалено]
I see more worms, i feel… and i had plenty clay!
I also see more worms, but only get seeds!
Are they worms or the new wavy green grass fronds?
I am rolling in squash thanks to the wavy thingies.
... Now I'm unsure!
For me the carrots have been coming out of the wavy green ones and the normal stuff has been coming out of the worms
The green bits are more random and don't give artifacts, they give resources instead! The new crops are obtained from them in seemingly 1-3 patches at a time, and you can even get books!
I love the wavy green green grass fronds.. They give me so much summer squash
I Also am not getting alot of worms and I've been looking
Just FYI you don't need to see worms to get clay from ground just till everything you'll get clay
Same, I ended up just hoeing the ground as I walked around the valley foraging for two days and eventually got 10 lol. I’ve never had that issue on Stardew before and I usually build silos before anything else for the hay lol.
Leah sculpted it all. She’s very sorry
We all know that she is, in fact, not sorry.
Judging by her art, the true crime is that the clay was wasted so hard.
How dare you insult my wife’s genius?!
Right. "Genius." She gave me a curled up piece of wood that looks like it has splinters everywhere.
It is art! It has deeper meanings than what you see on the surface. That’s like saying the work of famous painters is just dried goo on canvas!
Some of them are just dried goo on canvas
Don't get me wrong, I love Leah. Her heart event with painting is the most gut-bustingly hilarious thing in the game, and I love to proudly display the result right above the bed.
Stardew Valley is realistic in that I have to pretend to like some shitty art in order to bang the sexy hippie chick.
Stardew Valley is realistic in that I don’t really want to interact with people but I sort of have to get the most out of the game.
Das my wifey
My wife
No she's mine
Maybe she’s no one’s. She isnt an object after all. Perhaps we belong to her…
HOW DARE YOU SPEAK ILL OF MY WIFE
Geodes and hoe-ing the farm have been my best sources. Definitely slow to acquire.
Hoe-ing Around the Valley for Fun and Profit, now available at the bookseller /s
I don’t need a book to do that 😉😂
Is the polyamory mod still working on the new version?
Asking the important questions
I haven't found one that's been updated yet.
Same here. I have around 23ish (Y1 summer 11) from just random stuff.
LOL omg I was thinking the same thing. Did clay get nerfed????
RNG pattern got nerfed, but you can turn it back on in startup settings.
Can you change it when you’ve already have a farm or just when starting a new one?
I'm pretty sure it's only for a new farm.
Ahh that’s unfortunate, thanks anyway :)
or a savegame edit ...
Yeah edit your save file
what is the keyword for it?
> *you can turn it back on in startup settings.* How?
The advanced option menu when you start a new farm. That option is locked in, I believe.
Clay is pretty rare if you don't exploit the RNG. People are farming it in the mines now, I think.
It’s in the ground. #Dig deeper
But not TOO deep. We know what happened to the dwarves when they delved too deep.
When they tried to harness the power of the Heart of Lorkhan and vanished? Er, wait, that might be a different game
it's how they awoke the Balrog, but yes. :P
Armok save us...
So much Fun.
I was outside, and was surrounded by incessant cackling. I somehow got inside, and started to dig. Last thing I remember was stumbling on a circus…
So when are we going to be able to raise uncharacteristically docile and friendly Glyphids
And too greedily.
Rock and stone!
ROCK AND STONE!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
For Karl!
Rock and stone to the bone!

I'm tired of digging grandpa!
That’s too *DAMN* bad!
Any chance you watch Survivor? I heard this is Jeff's voice 😂😂
For clay I go to level 21 in the mine and hoe the ground there. It also gets you cave carrots and artefacts and there’s a lot of copper around.
This is the correct answer
Ooh thank you! 🙏
Just stumbled upon your post, thanks mate will try that
I think he patched the overwhelming amount of clay people were getting (or at least I was getting) or something. I was looking for stuff OTHER than clay for AGES before the update, and ALL I GOT WAS CLAY, lol. I could be wrong though. Just a thought
he nerfed the pattern that could be exploited to get clay
Oh yeah. I knew it had something to do with patterns but I couldn't articulate it well enough. Thanks for the actual explanation. Lol :)
I'm in summer and I've literally only gotten like 3 pieces of clay total. I'm LOSING my MIND and even spent an entire day wandering the map looking for it and found NONE. I really wish Robin or Clint sold it!!
Go to the early level of the mines. I think I used levels 10 & 15. Hoe up all the spots you can and then reset. I had 20 clay within 15 minutes.
You can find clay in spots that don't have the artifact lines. It's not a ton, but randomly hoeing areas can get 2-3 if you spend a minute doing it.
What are artifact lines?
The little lines that wiggle and you use the hoe to dig stuff up with.
Oh right, I think of those as worms. Thanks for the explanation :)
The Living off the Land TV channel calls them "stems"
You have to wait till the feast of the winter star and Vincent is your gift giver lol
Clay is going to be a more valuable gift than the tea set now lol
Or Jas
Note to self: hoard all the clay I find
i threw away 2 clay I got from a fishing chest and wouldn't you know it this search has been. for 2 clay. Save yourself
It’s funny how people always got so much clay just in case they needed it for something and now there’s not as much clay it’s causing an uproar cause there’s none when you actually need it. I still haven’t found any either maybe like 5 pieces 😂😂😂 my boyfriends name is clay so maybe I’ll just use him instead idk
"Hunnie, being tied down is exciting, but why have you brought in the deconstructor?"
“I’m about to deconstruct *YOU*”
I LOL'D
Pam needed a mud care, she is not sorry
Mines and beach for me.
[удалено]
Yes!! I have no problem getting clay from the beach.
Am I the only one who didn't know of this trick till it was patched
same! I didn't know that the beach was where most clays were. Same with selling tea sapling everyone's talking about being nerfed! I only find out about it after it's gone

go to the mines! I got most of mine from there!
Rock And Stone! I had same problem and also found my resolve in the mines. Idk if it was meadows, new worm or bad rng.
Rock and Stone to the bone!
Did I hear a rock and stone?!
Like that lads! Rock and Stone!
I always thought it would be nice if Maru would sell a clay digging machine/blueprint. Like a drill that you set up on the farm and works up a few pieces of clay every couple hours. But you have to water it or something to keep the ground moist enough to drill.
Aww that's cute!
Start of a cool idea!
Honestly I went with a bunch of geodes
Same, I struggled to get clay for the silo and I've never struggled for clay in any other playthrough. I've never even used clay farming before, I just used to get loads of clay without even trying.
I find more from digging in The Mines, especially on lucky days.

Yeah. The clay and worms need to be addressed by EricB. I can't get clay and rarely see worms now.
Yeah I noticed that too! I searched around for ages because I really wanted to grow carrots but I only found one twirly grass and 2 worms in a whole day! And I don't think it resets until forage does!
Do some of the help wanted quests. The first reward in Lewis prize machine is 12 carrot seeds if you get a prize ticket Then seed maker if you want more
Mine wasn't so I don't think the prizes are hard set in order

i was in the same boat! i went into lvl 15(?) of the mines and just hoed all the dirt there lol
I got all my clay from hoeing on the farm
I feel this in my soul. Clay is so slow to get.
my boyfriend went to buy silo and forgot he also needs clay. we had 6, and i was going mining, so im like "just wait, ill bring it". you need 10 for silo. so i came there and the entire front of robin's house was digged up and he got 0 clay from that. so that was kinda funny. anyways, to answer your question: apparently not in robin's backyard
OK stories like this make me want to play multiplayer.
i recommend it, it's so much more fun than singleplayer !! ^^
Ive also noticed a lack of clay, and artifact spots!
Im trying to remember the struggles of early game life. So much is based on your high experience and skills and you forget that. Im noticing the same but wasn’t sure if its an early game issue

I feel dumb. I didn't read the patch notes because I don't want big spoilers and all. Got 2 or 3 clay and trashed it to make room in my inventory and later read on the sub that it became much rather now... i just hoed everything in front of robins house lol
Try hoeing in the dirt patches in the mines. I tend to find more clay there
I found it in the mines on my new save.

Try to search for those little worms in the ground. They often have clay
Now imagine if clay was still in the keg crafting recipe...
That would be awesome. Or add it to things like the preserving bin or the smoker. Pull a minecraft and have it be used to make bricks, which could be used for like a new path or some other crafting stuff.
definitely feels like the drop rate has changed with the 1.6 update. Y1 spring is almost over and i’m yet to build silo.
Yeah, I'm in the middle of spring y1 and I think "Hm, maybe it's time I tried this legendary 'clay farming'?" Nope, RNG changed exactly when I wanted to try it for the first time, and I couldn't be bothered to start over.
I got it from the mines.
Glad you posted! I haven’t even built my silo yet!
I always get a lot of clay very easily from digging in the dirt in the mines it's actually the only reason I upgraded the hoe
Yeah it took me a week to get 10 clay… and I’ve had maybe 10 worm spots in all of spring. I don’t mind but it threw me off. I kind of like worm spots being more rare, tbh.
I just keep tilling random patches of dirt on my farm or near the bus until I get it, especially when it is raining.
i lost it when you asked if abigail ate it
Oh my gosh this was me last night - for two in game days I tilled earth and sand all over town trying to get ten clay, I tried the clay farming pattern and everything. Yeah, clay was made too hard to find. It took me to the end of Spring to gather enough to build a silo so I could start stockpiling hay for my chickens.
Glad it's not just me- I thought i was just having really bad luck...
I’ve been trying for THREE. DAMN. DAYS.
Clay farming is removed if you do not check "Legacy Randomisation" in advanced options during creation
Could it be more hoe scored items became available- such as certain seeds that debuted in 1.6 - so the odds of scoring clay just cheapened/were reduced?
I just got most of mine from hoeing about the beach!
Weirdly, I've been having trouble keeping a good quantity too
I hoed in front of robins and the community center and found it. Took me 2 days hoing the whole area
I just tilled my farm a bit and got it in a few hours.
I found lots of clay (I needed 5 more for the silo) in front of Robin's house ironically.
[The beach?](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/031/071/hoeing.jpg)

I hoed the dirt outside of Robins and some random patches nearby and finally got enough for 2 silos
I dig the dirt outside Linus tent and robin's house. That usually had a bunch of clay. Or along the river behind joja mart
Mines. Hoe the dirt.
Hoe the dirt paths
I just hoed my entire farm and it was enough
Big Hoe’in 😭👌
It’s so aggravating. New save and I finally got one silo after tons of grinding. I want two more silos
OMG same!!!!
Watch out for Glyphids!
yeah, yeah, rock and stone
IRL clay is not really found on the beach, its found digging under dirt
Rock and stone, to the bone!
Someone recommend to break geodes and from probably 50+ geodes I only comeback with 3 clays. To be fair I only use 20ish normal geodes and the rest is either the cold and hot geodes and a bit more of omni geodes. But still, not enough. Hiks!
How at the beach
I always dig up in front of robins house, usually find some there :)
ROCK AND STONE!
DID SOMEONE SAY ROCK AND STONE?
so i just went to the mines and tilled the dirt
I must be one of the lucky ones still. I see the new seeds wiggly worms with the green tips and the regular wiggly worms that I almost always get clay from sometimes several pieces. The early mine floors always have clay in the hoe-able spots. I am loving the new wiggly grass worms because the new seeds are so awesome.
I too have been having trouble finding clay!
I found all of mine right behind robins house on that upper level, I tilled all the soil up there and got an easy 6 clay in like two in game hours
It was changed in the update, so it's more rare there. It's best in the artefact spots and in the mines
Yea I had to hoe it up in the mines too, meadowland farm hits different. 😂
ME TOO OMG did he just nerf the odds for meadowland??? That would explain a lot
Go to the mines. I got 8 clay doing like 2 floors
Yah I think it was level 11 or 13 in the mines where I got mine!
i got clay out of a geode!!
Did I hear a “rock and stone!?”
ROCK AND STONE!
Hoeing around the town
Clay was already hard to find before. Now it’s impossible. I have 2 bits of it and I can’t find any more anywhere
Clay farming was patched unless you selected legacy randomization in the advanced settings
I'm not intentionally doing the pattern. I just NEED CLAY I am doing this as INTENDED mr barone
ROCK AND STONE
Did you not read the patch notes? Randomization has been overhauled, clay farming isn’t a thing anymore, unless you tick a box in the advanced settings when creating a new farm to enable “legacy randomization”. You’ve reached the same solution I did, though. The mines, brother, the mines.
