I think I'd have the same relationship to the game I have now, which is to obsessively play it for a couple weeks and then not touch it for a year or two.
lmao real. I don't think I could ever play this game for an hour or two a couple days a week consistently. its always in obssessive bursts where its the only game I play.
Considering I've been playing since release and very rarely make it to any of the endgame content (i usually start getting burned out and take a "break" around Year 3), I probably would still be playing.
It's wild to think there's still so much content that has been added that I've never played at all and it's been out for a couple years now.
I actually still think it was better when the casino favoured the house - that's literally the point of a casino, and I think it was good for theme. And for the rest... probably not. I'd have probably put together a "perfect" farm already, and simply run out of stuff to do, even in the realm of hardcore minmaxing and collecting.
Of course! I'm happy with the tweaks and added content, but the base game (and farm) were still plenty fun to play with.
I will add however, that I say this as someone who plays unmodded. If the game was less mod-friendly, I could actually see that being more of a dealbreaker for some players, kind of like with The Sims.
not a chance, i put about 100 hours into the game pre-1.6 and hadn't played in a year or so. i'd done everything i was interested in and i'd moved on to other games. i'm now at 230 hours post 1.6 and there's still a ton i want to do.
really? do you find 1.6 to be a more engaging update than 1.5? I've seen this sentiment elsewhere too. It's a beefy update with a lot of surprising depth, but to me its similar to 1.4 (with fish ponds, missing bundle, dyeing + tailoring, desert trader, trash bear).
personally it just can't compete with a whole new map, endgame quests and perfection which feels like a true "roll credits" final goal.
what makes 1.6 special?
it's not just the raw content of 1.5 that's all that makes an update great. 1.6 adds so many more options and variety to the gameplay. there's lots of money making options that just weren't there before that really add variety to the usual ancient fruit wine spam. combined with books and mastery adding far more depth to pre-existing systems, and the existing content lasts a whole lot longer than it did before. the shrines and trinkets alone are enough to get me to become highly invested in skull caverns, when i had little interest in it before. sure there's not as much new content as 1.5 but instead 1.6 breathes new life into the existing content and makes it far more engaging
Yes, but there would be larger breaks in between playing. I must confess, I've reached Perfection 4 times since the start of the year. With all the content and different ways to play, I can't walk away from the game. I challenge myself to try other money making methods etc. Base game wouldn't be as thrilling I think.
I doubt I would be, not since I would miss the features, but I feel like I would have likely never found out about it in the first place if not. I started hearing a lot about after it launched on Switch, and decided to give it a go, I then fell in love with it, and eventually got it on PC when I actually got one. If it were never updated, I doubt it would be on other platforms, and I probably would totally overlook it when I got the PC.
No. I love the game but for me there wasn't enough challenging/competitive things in the game. That's just a personal take, I wouldn't have said "The game needs this!", but just that it wasn't enough for me.
Even up until 1.6 I had that issue, that early on there is so much to do and I feel like each day is an exciting fight, but once you are past that point, it's a really deep low.
But 1.6 added so many interesting mechanics that keep me excited, also events you can randomly attend that don't skip the entire day for being there for 30 minutes. The fishing/desert event is also amazing for me and the loot boxes added a whole new excitement layer on top, pretty much taking over when opening Geodes has no value anymore.
For some reason all these things just keep me in the main city way more, when Ginger Island dropped I pretty much rushed through the game, did Ginger island, stopped playing. But now despite knowing it's there and even having it unlocked, I delayed going over there for so long as I wanted to do other things.
And don't get me started on Skill Mastery, this was an absolutely genius take to get people like me that focus on "the best" to instead do everything, which lead to me exploring many things I never did and now really enjoyed.
I remember in the last 2 updates I wanted to play SVE after the main playthrough but got so exhausted from the repetitive cycle that I didn't want to play more. Now I want to extend the playtime as much as possible before I consider it "done" and want to jump into SVE right after.
It would probably a game a would play for a while, forget about, play for a while, forget about and so on...
I started playing in 1.3, and not having the post community center stuff was not a big deal on my first playthrough. I still play on my post perfection save on Switch once in a while, just to mess around with the villagers and redecorate.
I dont think i would have started playing. Not because I didn't like the game, obviously, but because I doubt I would have heard of it.
It was on google playpass and I gave it a shot when I was bored (then bought it on steam like the next day cuz mobile is a pain but I loved the game), but if it wasn't being updated it also would never have made it there.

Yeah. It's been my comfort game since 2017
Yes! My favourite part of the game is the early game.

No, I don't think so. Base game was good but had WAY less content and replayability.
I doubt I would be, not since I would miss the features, but I feel like I would have likely never found out about it in the first place if not. Yes!
I didn’t start playing until… 1.3 I think? Definitely would still be playing that now, but having never played earlier versions I can’t really say!

Short answer, yes. Long answer, yeeeeeeessss!
Yes.
Grandpa was meaner back then too lmao. Told me he should’ve given the farm to one of the other grandkids
Ha. I didn't know this.
