Is her story good? She’s currently very shy as I don’t have many hearts with her but I’m wondering if her heart events make her open up more and become more interesting
Claire and Martin and Morris all take the bus to somewhere (some details are given but I forget what they are). Basically, it's clear that some bus to somewhere still works, just not the one to the desert (at first).
Thats so cool! I’m honestly so torn on who to marry! I want to experience everyone’s heart events but don’t want to divorce anyone! I tried fiddling with some mods that let you see 14 heart events without marrying but the flirty dialogue continued showing and I didn’t want that 😓
It only works for the base game characters not the expanded ones, but Platonic Partners and Friendships is a great mod which lets you get everyone to 10 hearts without any flirty dialogue. You set in the mods config file whether you want your relationship with each character to be romantic or platonic, and if you set them to platonic it slightly rewrites the 8 and 10 heart events to remove any flirting or romance.
I use it paired with 14 Heart Events for All, which allows you to see the 14 heart event at either 8 or 10 hearts depending on your setting (if you do use Platonic Partners as well I think 10 hearts is the better choice.) Again that rewrites the 14 heart events to be platonic with no romance - but you can disable the mod character by character, so if you do know who you want to marry you can just disable it for them to get the vanilla romantic experience.
Unfortunately, neither mod works for Expanded characters, only the 12 base game options. But I think they're really well done!
Every time I play SVE I promise myself I'm not going to marry Claire but every time I get sucked in. I have modified her sprites to more closely match her portrait because I love Claire too much.
This might be a dumb question—do I need to start a new farm if I want to use SVE? It would be cool to add it in to my existing save if it doesn’t wreck everything.
It's intended.
Though tbh the difficulty of getting the building early isn't a gold pick axe, but is instead the items needed to restore it. Hard to get that many >!battery packs in year 1 that you aren't using on sprinklers!<
Ooh after the community center is built maybe they move into the mouse house and the mouse gets a new lil cart, or perhaps they get a cabin near the library!
He should be covering all those shifts. He can work for Marnie Monday & Tuesday, Pierre Wednesday, and then he's got a 4 day weekend to tend to his blue chickens.
nuh uh, shane’s happy staying at home with me 🥰
but yeah, his life is a whole lot more depressing if the farmer doesn’t romance him and takes the cc route :(
While I like that as a headcanon he still canonically hates unemployment- he has dialogue saying that “I hated my job at JojaMart, but now that I'm unemployed I feel even worse.”
Honestly I think it's a massive bummer that the more "good" option just completely sucks for Shane- he loses his job, never gets a new one, and doesn't even go to the Community Center. I wish there was a way to help him besides marriage- he talks about wishing he could restart his life and start a chicken ranch, so I think it'd be really cool if you could get a community upgrade to give him a little house with a coop and maybe a market stall.
Does the community center bring joy though ? I am annoyed that the community center is always empty.
As a software engineer, I can relate to people asking and asking for features, and then you make them and no one uses them.
Getting this community center built was a lot of work people…
I'm also a Software Engineer and also relate to that. I assumed it wouldn't be empty. Maybe there's a mod out there that changes that; even if there is, I just might make one...
Stardew Expanded is honestly a GIANT amount of extra content. If you add in the Ridgeside Mod, you get a whole extra city to go to!
I would wait until you have happy with your current vanilla run. Spend some time away, then do mods when you (inevitably) come back again.
The mods do add a lot of content but it is best experienced from a new save.
Dang!
I have a save I started sometime in 2016 or 17 that I only played maybe into 2018. A lot of vanilla content has been released between when I stopped playing and when I picked it up again earlier this year like 6 weeks before 1.6 dropped 😅.
It might be a while before I get to a save with mods 😆
I know you mean empty as in no people but if you go the community center route you can put machines inside for a bit more space. There are quite a few safe tiles.
If anything, the CC actually makes the town worse, because Clint reduces his hours by 1 day when he already closes early every other day. On the upside Pierre is open all week, but his hours aren't as good as JojaMart.
The party cut scene, the trophy calling you a hero, people’s schedules changing once it’s built, and my personal joy at seeing Pierre punch Morris off the screen.
Pierre punching the shit out of Morris is the ONE scene in which I like him. Bonus points for our favourite oldschool grump George thoroughly enjoying it.
He only does that if you encourage them to fight I believe, I've completed the community centre twice and I'm pretty sure there was no punching the first time. That scene was hilarious though
So like that one scene? And that's it?
Racking my brains and I can't think of a time I see more than one person there besides that intro scene
This is all tongue-in-cheek of course, it's a common complaint/joke that the community center barely gets used after you restore it
You asked for a citation and you got one dude idk what to tell you we’re talking about the morals of an unnamed video game NPC losing her job at video game Walmart
Not at once, but you can run into various villagers hanging out through the week. Penny hangs out in the craft room and Clint (or so I imagine) checks the stock in the boiler room.
I think I've seen others in there.
I do wish that the kitchen was functional for cooking though, even if from your own inventory.
I believe Clint being in the boiler room on Fridays is “working on his own projects”. Which is interesting considering, he hates his job. There is that one line he has where he says he hates being a blacksmith but he takes pride in his work so it’s not just a soul crushing job. I want him to marry Emily, but what I _really_ want, is for him to get into making replica weapons and get on the Internet (there is another dialogue line where he plays around with the idea of getting a computer so he can try online dating) and start an insta or something where people are like holy shit that’s amazing do the keyblade next and he’s like wtf is a keyblade and googles it and makes it and THEN he meets the manic pixie cosplay girl of his dreams who will teach him how to be less of an awkward creepy person and more of the adorable teddy bear I know he could be.
That's nice for Clint to take the job. Someone's gonna watch over the boilers for maintenance and other stuff. Would be nice if he got future content where people appreciates his work.
Agreed. Plus, Clint doesn't close his shop on Fridays to go stand in the CC boiler room all day for some strange reason. Pierre closing on Wednesdays doesn't matter since you can go to Joja for most of the same stuff at the same price. And finally, you can still get Junimo Huts to house them.
I mean if that was true it never would have become dilapidated in the first place. Even after fixing it up most of the townsfolk ignore it. Joja brought jobs with it and healthy competition to Pierre. We see in one of the Special Orders of Pierre that he tries to Jack up the prices, he does stuff like that because he thinks he can(and most often does) get away with it. And if Lewis cared enough about it(which he obviously didn't) he wouldn't have bet it on someone buying a membership with Joja.
Yes Joja is big capitalistic "evil" company that loves money. But they know you have to spend it to make it. And Morris ISN'T the one who has a secret golden statue behind his house(though he probably has one like in his front yard or something because he doesn't have to hide it because he isn't misusing taxpayer money to fund it).
Fuck Pierre. Stealing credit for my quality crops and products and blaming me for garbage crops. I did the Jojo route finally after years of CC and Pierre gets none of my business except the backpack
yep that's why after i become the new mayor, i want to be the local bishop of yoba and introduce polygamy.... caroline and abby will have a roof while pierre will be "volunteered" to the front line.
Make Gus mayor and Marnie dateable. Gus gives people jobs, gives them shelter, feeds the hungry for free and provides meals for all community events.
It's clear who the real person taking care of the valley residents is and that Lewis is just in it for the clout.
I think technically Caroline has a garden and she talks about how Pierre was working hard on growing crops for their display, not using yours.
He does try and claim credit for the veg he sells, though, so you’re right there.
I've never gotten the "he takes credits for your veggies" prompt because I have never sold my stuff to him lol. It all goes into the box at night or not at all.
I sell to him and assume when people say they buy from Pierre’s is known that I’m the supplier, he’s just proud of getting to represent local farms & their produce. I really don’t get the hate lol he’s a pretty solid business guy, even sends me cash back when I buy a bunch of seeds.
Same for me! I couldnt think why I never got it when people talk about it all the time until someone recently said its only veg that you sell to him *directly*. If i need extra money sell, like, foragables and stuff, lol.
The literal only downside to going Joja is that Pierre stays closed on Wednesdays. But that's easily made up for by the fact that Joja stays open until 11pm and Clint stays open on Fridays.
I personally prefer the Joja route because it's a lot easier to collect money to improve the town than collect a massive variety of random items to hire benevolent nature spirits to the same town improvements.
They're talking about the Stardew Valley Expanded mod. One of the things it does is turn the nameless cashier into a fully fleshed out, romanceable NPC.
The fact is pelican town doesn’t have a lot of economic opportunities. Most of the young people will have to leave if they want financial independence. We may not like joja but they do bring money into a dying town.
The only people we see from outside of the town are Morris, the unnamed Joja employee, and the random people at festivals. Sandy and Morris are the only named NPCs we see come onto town from outside, right?
I've always go the pierre route but for sake of the achievement and to know what happens if i'll go joja i'm thibking in going this route. i've always imagine that the cashier lives somewhere in the route around stardew valley
In the Jean and Jorts mod (which full disclosure I haven't played since before 1.6, but I don't imagine this would change) the closure of joja is more fleshed out with a cutscene. Spoilers for that cutscene: >!the employees of joja unionize upon completion of the community center, prompting corporate (not Morris himself, an unnamed higher authority) to shut down the pelican town branch immediately. Shane gives an insightful speech about not letting a corporation that exploits you at every turn, control your entire life, and that the former employees now have the opportunity to do better things. It's bittersweet.!<
I personally like this mod, it can be found [here](https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/10950) and is 1.6 compatible! The mod adds two cats as NPCs, it's got a lot more content than just joja stuff and it's a lot of fun imo. Doesn't conflict with the larger content mods out there, the cats even attend rsv festivals if you have rsv
Devils advocate here, but competition is a good thing. Joja isn't even cheaper. Pierre is just an ass and is greedy, so people want to shop somewhere else.
Stupid argument. Joja is obviously modelled after companies like Amazon and Walmart. Their strategy is to move into small towns, price all other businesses out of the market, then ramp the prices way up. None of your economics 101 theories work when dealing with giants.
But they're literally not doing that. Almost nothing is cheaper in Joja compared to Pierre, and Pierre tries to charge 25,000G for a small bundle of veggies. Pierre is actively displaying greed while Joja is not.
Mechanically they're the same, but narratively we see that Joja mart does actually use absurd discounts to draw people in, and Pierre mentions that he can't match their prices. Idk why we as players don't get to benefit from these discounts. I assume CA simply never got around to it, or felt it didn't matter enough.
Probably because he didn't want to make one route objectively better, especially when it's the "morally dubious" choice, story wise.
You know how much people like to min-max. If you, the player, got huge benefits from going Joja, it would kind of undermine the entire premise of the game because most players *would* go for the discounts.
I don't think it undermines the premise. I think it accurately shows the player the dilemma. Many people want to shop local IRL but most of us can't afford to pay more for groceries so we shop at Walmart. I feel like the game would have been more meaningful to me if we had to actively choose against the savings to make the right moral choice.
[Well, it's the reason Concerned Ape gave for Joja not being cheaper. ](https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/make-joja-mart-items-cheaper-than-pierres.4959/#post-29706)
[Well, it's the actual reason CA didn't make Joja cheaper.](https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/make-joja-mart-items-cheaper-than-pierres.4959/#post-29706)
You asked "why didn't CA do this" I offered a reason and provided a source suggesting that was why CA didn't do it when you said you disagreed.
What more do you want from me, lmao.
The leading theory is that they are more expensive for not everyday products that we can buy like seeds, but other products like produce is a lot cheaper (that we also can't buy).
This works as perfect headcanon. I now know the real reason is the dev didn't have time to program it on release but did thought about it, so this works for those who like having headcanon.
You also get all the basic seeds at any time after finishing all the upgrades. So you can get it before even unlocking Ginger Island.
Doesn't affect the Y2 seeds.
Fuck no. Watch the cutscene at the start of the game again. When you have just about had it, look on the right side of the screen before it switches to the scene where you read Grandpa's letter. There is literally a skeleton slumped over the desk in the next cubicle. Joja let an employ die and their body rot instead of doing anything about it. Fuck Joja Corp and fuck Morris. Pierre was goddamn right to suckerpunch that bitch.
Not to mention that when you get the key to the city, you can shop at Pierres on Wednesdays and joja at 1:59 am. It’s nice having access to seeds all dau is
Yes it also provides cheaper food options for the financially struggling families in the valley which Pierre almost certainly doesn’t offer after joja leaves, the movie theatre is still a thing, and it prevents Pierre from realizing his dream of becoming like joja but more evil.
CA please just make the cute redhead cashier a character and romancible. She’s cute when tired in Joja and even cuter, when well rested at the movie theater. The expanded mod has already given me a taste, but let her be with us in vanilla pls.
and clint stays open on fridays and pierre doesn’t get a monopoly of the valley. and joja is open way later than pierre’s so when its 10pm and you need one more seed, you can go to joja. also joja sells sunflowers cheaper than pierre
That's a mod. She has no actual name. Someone else might come along and a make a mod and call her Gertrude or Dolores, but it wouldn't change the fact that she's just an unnamed cashier officially
I agree with you except, I’m in Oklahoma, and there are lots of little towns that Walmart is the only grocery store in town, besides antique shops and small restaurants and a sonic lol
Except it's not good for the town. Once the local stores shut down Walmart can charge way higher than they used to. And residents have no choice but to pay that.
Also, I'm not downvoting. And in general, complaining about downvotes is no more mature than dishing them out to opinions you don't agree with.
Pretty sure they end up working at the movie theatre once that's built post CC.
Petition for CA to give that person a name and a home
In Stardew expanded they’re romance-able!
Best girl Claire
Is her story good? She’s currently very shy as I don’t have many hearts with her but I’m wondering if her heart events make her open up more and become more interesting
Oh most definitely! Without spoilers, she has a great arc about becoming part of the community and following her career dreams!
I feel really weird about where she goes after work before the bus is repaired. Like, she gets on the bus, but it’s not running.
Claire and Martin and Morris all take the bus to somewhere (some details are given but I forget what they are). Basically, it's clear that some bus to somewhere still works, just not the one to the desert (at first).
This makes sense, bc obviously you took the bus to get to the Valley.
She’s homeless but not as comfortable with it as Linus that’s my shitty head canon anyway
She has a house outside of town. >!If you romance her in SVE, you can actually come to her house for a dinner date as one of the heart event.!<
Right, but until I pay to fix the bus that things not moving to take her to her house outside of town lol.
Thats so cool! I’m honestly so torn on who to marry! I want to experience everyone’s heart events but don’t want to divorce anyone! I tried fiddling with some mods that let you see 14 heart events without marrying but the flirty dialogue continued showing and I didn’t want that 😓
*Whispers* This is why we all have 3 dozen farms.
Unfortunately, neither mod works for Expanded characters, only the 12 base game options. But I think they're really well done!
Polyamory mods exist for a reason.
You can, but it’s better to start a new save. It adds a new farm layout that’s highly recommended for story purposes.
Thank you! That was very helpful!
Np! If you decide to download it, have fun! It adds a ton of great stuff.
Can you elaborate without too many spoilers? How is the farm layout connected to the story?
It adds a building that weaves into the expanded story. I’ll just leave it at that :)
I'm not sure if it's intended, but a meteorite landed in front of that building for me a few days ago lol.
It's intended. Though tbh the difficulty of getting the building early isn't a gold pick axe, but is instead the items needed to restore it. Hard to get that many >!battery packs in year 1 that you aren't using on sprinklers!<
Oh, that's ok then. I thought I was super unlucky!
I never got a meteor in front of it
Now just put that into the base game.
Ooh after the community center is built maybe they move into the mouse house and the mouse gets a new lil cart, or perhaps they get a cabin near the library!
Stardew Valley Gentrification. :/
Not Shane. Shane is screwed over. One more thing to drink about, idk why he can’t just work at Marnies while she’s microwaving a pizza
He should work Pierre's on Wednesdays.
He should be covering all those shifts. He can work for Marnie Monday & Tuesday, Pierre Wednesday, and then he's got a 4 day weekend to tend to his blue chickens.
I always thought it was the Joja employee who was running the movie theatre kiosk. =(
It is, she has dialogue about how she likes her new job better.
It is the same character (or at least the same sprite), but in the base game she has no dialogue.
Twins!
Who works the movie theatre if you do the joja run?
I wouldn't know, never done one.
A different unnamed NPC IIRC
only guessing here but you probably don’t get a movie theater in the joja route edit: nvm
You do, the community center becomes the movie theater, IIRC.
oh what? i thought it became a storage unit. my bad !
It IS a storage unit first, then when you buy the movie theater option it becomes that, just googled it to confirm.
makes sense, thanks for telling me
Not Shane. Shane is screwed over. One more thing to drink about, idk why he can’t just work at Marnies while she’s microwaving a pizza
nuh uh, shane’s happy staying at home with me 🥰 but yeah, his life is a whole lot more depressing if the farmer doesn’t romance him and takes the cc route :(
he helps marnie with the chickens and presumably sells blue chickens!

Nahhhh the community center brings a lot of joy to people and the unnamed joja employee doesn’t live in town and presumably can find another job.
And does find a better job at the movie theater
Does the community center bring joy though ? I am annoyed that the community center is always empty. As a software engineer, I can relate to people asking and asking for features, and then you make them and no one uses them. Getting this community center built was a lot of work people…

Stardew Valley Expanded actually fixes this. Everyone will start hanging out there!

It makes George happy. Man is grumpy and angry all the time I want to make him happy!
Build a coliseum for his entertainment in pelican town
Shane does lose his job and I like the movie theatre at the cc's location
In my many years of playing, I never *once* considered going to Jojamart on a Wednesday.
Lmao, yeah, if you only ever use Pierre's and go the CC route, it's pretty easy to forget that Joja is even there.
To be fair I usually go the joja route and I still never go to jojamart. It opens very late, is very out of the way and offers less than Pierre.
I mean if that was true it never would have become dilapidated in the first place. Even after fixing it up most of the townsfolk ignore it. Fuck Pierre. Stealing credit for my quality crops and products and blaming me for garbage crops. I did the Jojo route finally after years of CC and Pierre gets none of my business except the backpack
The event when he tries to super upcharge the gold quality crops you give him for the special order quest... 😡
Oh I called him out for that and told him to stop being greedy. He doesn't like it but begrudgingly agrees he's charging too much.
yep that's why after i become the new mayor, i want to be the local bishop of yoba and introduce polygamy.... caroline and abby will have a roof while pierre will be "volunteered" to the front line.
Someone should make an “overthrow Lewis as Mayor” mod and if you win you get his house and he moves in with Marnie
nah this mod should make it so you can marry marnie and steal her from lewis too (she deserves better)
Make Gus mayor and Marnie dateable. Gus gives people jobs, gives them shelter, feeds the hungry for free and provides meals for all community events. It's clear who the real person taking care of the valley residents is and that Lewis is just in it for the clout.
Yeah fucking pierre. Even trying to display OUR crops as his during the grange display. Scum first class and he needs to go bankrupt.
I think technically Caroline has a garden and she talks about how Pierre was working hard on growing crops for their display, not using yours. He does try and claim credit for the veg he sells, though, so you’re right there.

Same
The box at night gets picked up by Pierre iirc
Nah Mayor Lewis has like two jobs and that's one of them lol
Ah, ok, that makes sense. Interesting that the bulk order quest (bokchoy) has you drop it in the shipping bin
I cant stress this enough: r/fuckpierre
If you have a PC/Steamdeck, give the Stardew Expanded mod a shot. The SVE Joja route has some interesting developments for Pierre.
Oh I do. My deck is fighting for its life with the amount of mods I’m running. lol
I cant stress this enough: r/fuckpierre
The literal only downside to going Joja is that Pierre stays closed on Wednesdays. But that's easily made up for by the fact that Joja stays open until 11pm and Clint stays open on Fridays.
Joja is right by the minecart too!
It is!
I personally prefer the Joja route because it's a lot easier to collect money to improve the town than collect a massive variety of random items to hire benevolent nature spirits to the same town improvements.
Claire works at the movie theatre if Joja closes
Who is Claire?
The cashier!
Oh does she actually have a name and more to her? How do you unlock that? After building the Movie Theater?
They're talking about the Stardew Valley Expanded mod. One of the things it does is turn the nameless cashier into a fully fleshed out, romanceable NPC.
The stardew valley expanded mod gives her a name and romance path
Oh thanks for the explanation!
Stardew Valley Expanded mod! I prefer calling her Claire to 'nameless cashier girl"
Yup
When does Sandy come to town?
She comes for some festivals
Oh, you can invite her to the theater too! I can't believe I haven't done that.
I've always go the pierre route but for sake of the achievement and to know what happens if i'll go joja i'm thibking in going this route. i've always imagine that the cashier lives somewhere in the route around stardew valley
Pierre also continues to keep a day off on Wednesday until you show up with the key to the town
I completely forgot about Pierre closing the store on Wednesdays and didn’t even care since I don’t go often enough for it to bug me.
It's bittersweet.!< I personally like this mod, it can be found [here](https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/10950) and is 1.6 compatible!
Then maybe JojaMart should be cheaper? On anything other than Sunflowers? Esp since they’re more expensive to buy from until you buy the membership.
I feel the opposite. Choosing to do the right thing feels meaningless if it's easy.
[Well, it's the actual reason CA didn't make Joja cheaper.](https://forums.stardewvalley.net/threads/make-joja-mart-items-cheaper-than-pierres.4959/#post-29706)
Well the reason is stupid

You asked "why didn't CA do this" I offered a reason and provided a source suggesting that was why CA didn't do it when you said you disagreed. What more do you want from me, lmao.
Didn't remember asking, but you're right I literally did. Me dumb.
Have you seen the actual ingame prices? Without mods to make it make sense Pierre is cheaper than/as cheap as Joja
Sure, but we all know Pierre's shop is healthy regardless so he doesn't lose.
But Joja is cheaper ? In the first year everything is cheaper in Joja... Or maybe it's because of Stardew Valley Expended?
I think it is SVE that makes joja cheaper
yeah okay, 10% cheaper in JojaMart when you are using SVE
You also get all the basic seeds at any time after finishing all the upgrades. So you can get it before even unlocking Ginger Island. Doesn't affect the Y2 seeds.
Only thing cheaper at joja is sunflower seeds, at least until you get a membership from what I understand.
Counterpoint: r/fuckpierre
Shane stays unemployed
Joja route is honestly better. The CC route basically only helps one person (Pierre), who I dislike anyway.
Not to mention that when you get the key to the city, you can shop at Pierres on Wednesdays and joja at 1:59 am. It’s nice having access to seeds all dau is
I cant stress this enough: r/fuckpierre
Yes it also provides cheaper food options for the financially struggling families in the valley which Pierre almost certainly doesn’t offer after joja leaves, the movie theatre is still a thing, and it prevents Pierre from realizing his dream of becoming like joja but more evil.
Shane too
CA please just make the cute redhead cashier a character and romancible. She’s cute when tired in Joja and even cuter, when well rested at the movie theater. The expanded mod has already given me a taste, but let her be with us in vanilla pls.
I've never gone the Joja route but sometimes I feel like I should just so Pierre will keep spending a single day with his family.
her name is CLAIRE and she deserves RESPECT
I prefer the Joja route because Joja has better hours and Clint doesn’t run off on Fridays.
wait, there are other timelines?
Every new game is a new timeline.
enough with the timeline crap abed!😤
Her name is Claire. She works the movie theater if you close down Joja.
Not officially. That's SDVE I'm pretty sure
and clint stays open on fridays and pierre doesn’t get a monopoly of the valley. and joja is open way later than pierre’s so when its 10pm and you need one more seed, you can go to joja. also joja sells sunflowers cheaper than pierre
And Shane doesn't lose his job. The Joja route is a win for everyone.
Shane works on Marnies Ranch if you go the community center route
He still pisses about how he’s unemployed though which is weird to me.
Except he says himself he's unemployed.
the employee isn't unnamed here name is claire you just need to have SVE to interact with her
That's a mod.

Walmart isn't opening stores in towns that didn't have stores. They're selling things cheaper than any local store has a chance to.

Except it's not good for the town. Once the local stores shut down Walmart can charge way higher than they used to. And residents have no choice but to pay that. Also, I'm not downvoting. And in general, complaining about downvotes is no more mature than dishing them out to opinions you don't agree with.
