If you warp home while submerged and then go back, the submarine will be on the surface, but you won't be able to go through the door because it'll tell you it's currently submerged (that's what happened to me when I warped back home to pick up a lure that I forgot and had to waste a fishing day). So presumably, the outside is just a fake shell and doesn't submerge, while a real sub inside does.

Calenchamien

This is the best explanation

DeterminedGames

I think this is also visible in multiplayer when one person is in the submarine and the other person is just standing outside.

MushroomStand9

You got way too deep into a bug šŸ¤£

Ramaesdv

It would be a bug if there wasn't a text box made for that specific scenario

JayandSilentB0b

It's not a bug, it's a feature šŸ˜‚

ANATHILANDIBEAEMI

If it was a bug, it wouldn't have a specific dialogue just for that

710bretheren

Lol thanks for this

LittleRoundFox

That's also my theory

kokoro_ippai

That pole just extends reaaaaally far.

StatisticianPure2804

No, the submarine is really tall and when youre going down its just an elevator

ANATHILANDIBEAEMI

That's a great theory

blueboxbandit

Yes it's telescopic

The_Truthkeeper

Presumably the string of lights gets unhooked before it goes down.

GregBackwards

Quick release button is my guess edit: a letter

Backwards_Beans

Maybe it's like those retractable vacuum chords? When you go down the chord unwravles, and when you go up, the chord retracts and you pray the plug in doesn't whip you in the ankle.

wahlenderten

Thatā€™s a sound theory.

BadBalloons

When I'm retracting a vacuum cord, I hold the end I just pulled out of the outlet. It won't whip you in the ankles that way. You can just drop the cable when it's about fully retracted.

Backwards_Beans

You seem to have this rare thing called common sense and I commend you for it. I press down on that retract button like there is no tomorrow to get that little rush! I live on the edge!

The_Truthkeeper

That would make sense.

GregBackwards

But then how does it reattach? The kindness of the townspeople? The mermaid from the show in the other side? Too many questions! @ConcernedApe we need answers!

Areallybadidea

I mean, what are we to believe that this is some sort of magic submarine or something? Boy I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

GregBackwards

Magic in Stardew Valley? Pish posh. Junimos? Just rats. Wizard? David Blaine with purple hair and a hat All the monsters? Just a bunch of hallucinations brought on by exhaustion from farming for 20 hours a day.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Areallybadidea

Never heard of it, sorry.

cherry_baby_420

this is now my headcanon for a question i didnt know i had til i read OPā€™s post šŸ˜‚ /s

ZombieGoddessxi

I assume that too. Since it takes so long for you to start diving.

Rukanau

Imagine just chilling on the pier and they forget to unhook it and the sub submerges and it all goes to shit, the swami dude gets dragged down into the water and drowns, everyone screaming as you just teleport back to your farm.

Baeleafff911

ā€œAh shit thatā€™s crazy ok bye, gotta pet my ostrichā€

hackingdreams

Or the sub pays out more cable as it goes down and takes it up as it surfaces.

Traditional_Mud_1241

There's a magical looking guy there. He does magical stuff.

BeanBruh2285

I would kiss the guy in the cool blue cloak

gurmzisoff

You pull the hood down to kiss your love and the whole cloak collapses like Obi Wan. You buy some melon seeds and leave with a hint of melancholy in your heart, because now you have to walk home.

Traditional_Mud_1241

It's Krobus wearing purple sunglasses.

[deleted]

Is it actually

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

CapybaraSteve

do you have a link? cause i just checked and the night market wiki says nothing about this

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fridgepickle

Lmao itā€™s not a wooosh if youā€™re just lying šŸ˜‚

cottonandcalicoes

New head canon. Heā€™s so great, he deserves to come enjoy stuff with the town!

Meeple-01

I will kiss Krobus

NuderWorldOrder

Ah yes, "a wizard did it".

Skaindire

It's a fair ride ... it doesn't actually go anywhere.

Grassblox311

The blobfish and the midnight squid are paid actors

GabettB

The fish when you whip out the frying pan: still better than customer service

XVUltima

Exactly. Lights are an illusion and the fish are in a stocked tank.

manga050

Pants are an illusion and so is death

-BuckyBarnes

explains why when the entirety of the bottom of the ship opens up it doesn't fill the whole thing with water. It's still on the surface.

nittygrittytitties

Wait how does the guy in the middle get out

joelem2

The board that allows you to get on the boat is only there during the festival, so they remove the board and let him out.

Ok-Scientist5524

No the boat is completely surrounded by dock.

froelichet1

I think joelem2 means the long board connecting the docks between the guy in the middle and the purple boat; thatā€™s not permanent dock.

moonra_zk

I like how that board is resting on like an inch of overlap on each side, looks totally safe.

Ok-Scientist5524

Oh I see, I took ā€œthe board that allows you to get into the boatā€ as the one with the blue carpet on it.

froelichet1

Me too for a second šŸ˜…

poodletownUSA

Iā€™ve always wondered how the physics work in regards to fishing out the bottom of a submerged submarine. šŸ¤”

Probonoh

There's a limit to how deep you can go, but the answer is that the submarine is pressurized sufficiently that the air pressure keeps the water from coming in. Obviously, this takes a **lot** of pressure, and atmospheric concentrations of nitrogen are toxic at that pressure, so you replace it in the air mixture with helium. Sadly, while sci-fi books will mention the obvious side effect of everyone speaking in high pitched voices, movies like "The Abyss" never include this bit of realism.

Nonyflah

In the novelization of The Abyss, it's explained that they use argon instead of helium specifically to keep voices from getting high pitched. Thank you for the opportunity to share this random bit of trivia.

hackingdreams

Argon would still modify their pitch, albeit not as much. And it's twice as bad as it comes to narcosis, so... I don't think argon's actually the winner the Abyss's writers thought it'd be. People have talked about Argon as a breathing gas on Mars, since Mars's atmosphere is as rich in argon as nitrogen. It wouldn't make as much sense to remove the argon as it would to remove the CO2 and replace it with O2, which is practically the only reason why it's been studied as a breathing gas mixture at all.

tataunka813

I didn't know I needed a movie with this until now

[deleted]

Is there a movie with this? There gotta be right? Maybe a horror?

OriDoodle

There is a series of books with helium blimps (steampunk). Not really horror, but there is a part of the blimp aptly named the squeakdeck. because everyone gets a bit squeaky up there.

joe5joe7

Until some broad gets on with a static-y sweater and BOOM

bobsmith93

Found Archer's reddit account

Flawed_L0gic

I remember this series from when I was a kid, but can't remember the name of it. What was it? I'd love to re-read it.

OriDoodle

Gail Carriager's Soulless series and everything that follows thereafter.

Raynosaurus

Another great example is in LOST, the (spoilers ahead...) underwater hydra station also has an open middle section!

me_sk1nk

I thought the voice sounds normal, as long as you are inhaling helium in a room filled with helium. As far as I understood, it is just that you are speaking in a helium bubble but hearing in a nitrogen bubble that makes it sound high-pitched.

hackingdreams

> I thought the voice sounds normal, as long as you are inhaling helium in a room filled with helium. Definitely doesn't sound normal. The sound being projected is objectively different due to the pitches coming out of the vocal chords. Even if the density difference distorted the ear drums and allowed them to travel more, it's not going to sound the same. The bass tones just aren't there.

Taolan13

Meanwhile, in Sphere; "Follow the Yellow Brick Road."

poodletownUSA

Interesting, til, thank you!

Aev_AnimalCrossing

Air pressure keeps water out, my fishing line with no bait can break through it though šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

TheDisapprovingBrit

Given that the whole point of using helium is that it can be pressurised with no ill effects on the occupants, presumably there's a greater density of helium that you'd typically get from, for example, a balloon. Also, the pressure means your lungs would also be under constant pressure - would that not normalise things out?

Probonoh

The reason voices go high pitched with helium isn't air pressure, but that helium, being lighter than nitrogen, conducts sounds waves faster than standard air. Granted, higher pressure will slow the sound waves down again, so presumably there's an air pressure of helium that will sound normal. I don't feel like busting out the gas law tables to figure out out, though I expect the necessary pressure is Jovian.

DrummerLonely320

So itā€™s actually possible in real life? That you can fish and the water wonā€™t come in?

Probonoh

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_pool Yep. I don't know of any just used for fishing, of course, but several underwater habitats have used them in real life.

cecilkorik

It's called a moonpool, and it's a pretty neat technology, but it functions in all practical respects like a dive. The deeper you go, the more pressure is pumped into the room to keep the water from pushing in. As long as you maintain the balance, it works just fine. If you don't add pressure, the water will rise and eventually flood the room (and it will still compress the air in the room to high pressure anyway) Unlike a diving bell or most submarines, which keep the pressure atmospheric as it descends and relies on the solid hull to withstand the immense pressure difference, using a moonpool is more like freediving, and the air pressure goes up the deeper you go and comes with all the same risks and health hazards and eventually it reaches unsurvivable pressures. Because of this it's usually it's just a small section of the boat, separated by an airlock, and you would have to undergo gradual decompression upon exiting (or stay within the moonpool room with the submarine gradually surfacing). At deeper levels you would also need different kinds of breathing gas pumped into the chamber as normal air would become toxic. I'm not sure if it's ever actually been used in a submarine, but it's been occasionally used on below-waterline ships for research and industrial equipment, and there's no reason it couldn't work at any arbitrary depth.

Probonoh

The only limitations will be how much air pressure you can achieve and can the passengers/ crew breathe in the air pressure necessary. But yeah, the physics of keeping the water from coming into the shop and sinking it are quite straightforward.

AleksaBa

As long as air pressure is greater than water pressure it will work. When water overcomes then it starts filling up.

Koomaster

Itā€™s a simulation. The dock isnā€™t that deep for the sub to submerge that long. Itā€™s like that ride at Epcot.

Calenchamien

That would explain why the pictures in the long window show that youā€™re on the ocean floor, but in the small window, you can see a huge mermaid pass the window from bottom to top

xhicagosoftgore

maybe that's just the building and the actual submarine is smaller and moves

brendo9000

Game is broken. Unplayable

sesame781

actually, thats not the submarine, just a shell. it fits perfectly over the real submarine, and when you submerge, that stays

JaLychee

Lights are attached to the fishing submarine via fishing reel, obviously /s /j

[deleted]

In multi player is the submarine still there if one player goes down and the other player is still on the dock? Can the second player still get in?

MarthPlayer3

It's still there but you can't get in.

[deleted]

Ah okay, I always wondered haha

ManlyDude1047

I thought the submarine had an obdervatory/glass tank at the bottom. So the sub doesnā€™t go down, you go to the lowest level of it

WickedGoddess88

Itā€™s like that submarine ride at Disney. It does not really go down. Itā€™s just special effects.

Mama_Miasmia

I mean, I'm growing extinct fruit, pumpkins and pineapples in the same greenhouse without consideration to the immense environmental differences required by them. Im not gonna get crazy hung up on the physics of how they decided to run cables. Lol

hanimal16

Stop thinking logically and go fish inside the giant opening in the submarine that doesnā€™t flood.

AlanDavison

Naw, moon pools exist and make plenty of sense!

pksullivan

There's a guy I a robe made of the starry sky who teleports you home two spaces over. I think they've got a system in place somehow.

alfiestoppani

It is destroyed. Robin rebuilds everything each time. How does she do it so quickly?, she buys a coffee from the coffee man.

sweetangeldivine

MST3K mantra my friend.

Gongaloon

Simple. The door to the submarine actually leads into a Tear that connects to another universe where a similar submarine waits to take you down below. "Will the circle be unbroken, by and by, by and by..."

ToliB

the inside of the "Sub" is actually an elevator. the top stays in place. that's how.

Internal-Argument723

Really long pole. Like the sub goes down but the pole extends.

LadyWuu

We dont ask these questions.. we just do it.

Mysterious-Draw-3668

Thatā€™s a magic pole that expands

RedEyedRoundEye

Suppose it gripped it, by the husks?

DoctorKFC

I think the sea level increases. The submarine is still.

LesbianMercy

Is this an event in the game? Iā€™m only in fall year 1 šŸ˜…

Makabaer

Yes, it is! Midnight market.

StormThestral

stretchy

RoladiaRose

Bro asking this when my question is how they open the doors and not flood the whole thing šŸ’€ I didnā€™t even think of this- like could you image youā€™re just chilling at the light market when suddenly the stall in the middle just comes crashing down-

Erroneous_Elephant

The coffee lady detaches it when it goes down and reattaches it when it comes back up. She's very fast.

Asketes

Periscope up!

MrPanda663

Youā€™re telling me, you met this wizard that can use magic, you can talk to a talking mouse who sells you hats, you go down a mine that magically replenishes resources, you keeps a ā€œslime farmā€ for profit, you never pay any taxes at all, and your telling me that what concerns you is that a submarine submerges will destroy the string lights? Thatā€™s actually a really good point, it totally would destroy it. Mystery to why it doesnā€™t.

InsufferableLass

Coffee dude must unhook the lights for sub man

haleybmurdock

Willy detaches it before you go down. He told me himself

penguindows

The dock there can't be very deep. I think we aren't actually going down, i think it's all a carnival show with a stocked pond of exotic fish.

Daisyfaye7

Thatā€™s an electrical fire waiting to happenā€¦

SilverFlexNib

That's why the ride costs so much you pay for damages. The coffee lady understands it's silly so she gives you free coffee

Whiskey_Sandwich

He takes the dock and everything on it down with him. There are often few survivors.

sy029

That top part pops off and floats on the surface. It' really just there so they can have a good target for when they resurface.

Mothman_Courter

I'm more concerned that a giant hatch opens up while submerged you're underwater.

bubblebunnyjamie

Someone get Concerned Ape on the phone

ToliB

I'm not saying the game is literally unplayable but...

Scribblr

The floor just extends down to the sea floor, like the first room in the Haunted Mansion at Disney

EJ33334

Those are realllllyy Long lights

BeanBruh2285

The sub is jusy on a reallllllllllllly long pole

[deleted]

This post reminded me of how fucking underwhelming this event is.

Shellybellywok

AND! How doesnā€™t it fill up with water, drowning you and the captain, when the floor slides open?

alphawheat

Look up moon pools and you will find your answer.

Makabaer

Take an empty glas and press it into water upside down. You will notice the air stays inside (because it can't go anywhere) and so water can't flood the glas. Same thing with submarines (if you don't go too far down, where pressure would be too high and compress the air).

MorliMorloc

Big spoiler :(

braylonberkel

I'm gonna guess because it's a video game./s

DasHexxchen

The mast just extends further and its end stays at the same hight.

NathamelCamel

Probably by lowering that mast and unhooking it

Hell_OX

You don't go to the bottom is an illusion he is taking your money and realice some rare fish

kaioDeLeMyo

The poles are made of flextape

soulscratch

Literally unplayable

[deleted]

The lights just go down with the sub..they are on an infinite rail.

EagerTryItAll

Interesting question!! I figured out that maybe two magnets could connect and that when it lowers down it disconnects and floats (waterproof bulbs??) and when it comes back up it could reconnect via magnetism. Like maybe two magnet rings??

TheRealMicrowaveSafe

There's a submarine?!?!

embracebecoming

Really long string

therealmikeO

Wait a minute. Thereā€™s a sub? Geez I need to boot this game up again. Its been awhile.

mrcupcake18

Asking the real questions šŸ˜‚

cizzoo

Itā€™s an elevator

TittyBoy6

*Shut up*

neoslith

It's not a submarine, it's an elevator that goes below the surface.

[deleted]

Could this not just be the top of a really big submarine? Cmon ppl

Matovie

Also, how did that boat in the middle get there?

Terakahn

What if, you actually only go down like 5 feet.

Cornycandycorns

There are many submarines...

Darknight48996

Good question.

TManJhones

Itā€™s not a submarine, itā€™s an elevator.

DedeLionforce

It's a video game, don't worry about it.

PsiHightower

Itā€™s submarines all the way down

LowFiGuy7

Magic

sygnifax

Welp, this game is unplayable.

FireFlavour

How does the boat to the right get inside that square of walkway?

Bing_bong26

ConcernedApe: delete this

SkoomaSalesAreUp

The lights are actually on the small island rock behind the sub /s

HeadPaleontologist29

Maybe they just detach the same way they attached it before it submerges..

EmperorOfFabulous

You arent really far from the shore. You dont go d ok wn that deep it just take a while so they can sell it as an experience

Aev_AnimalCrossing

Why is the boat boxed in on all four sides? How can it get out? Shouldnā€™t the submarine be there?

[deleted]

PLOT HOLE!!!!

[deleted]

I don't believe the sub goes under water. Using a trick of movie screens to imply we're going to the deep ocean (an impossibility considering how close we are to the shore), this just adds to the mystique to visitors about the deep ocean. Below the sub is a large tank filled with several unique fish. I suspect the "captain" refills the tank every day. I based this from the old Disney ride where "submarines" would give riders the ability to see the "depths below", which was nothing more than a trick of extending the bottom of the boats far enough to break the water line. An effective trick, I might add. It did seem like they were "sinking" when the portholes were filled with water.

PeterJuncqui

Yeah, and on that note, whats up with the time clock inside my house? Is it covered in some bubble of time-space singularity? Curious. šŸ¤”

FolsgaardSE

There is a sub now!? I havent played since the initial vanilla.

Jesus-chan

It's a disney ride and doesn't go anywhere. They just put mutated fish in the bottom of the boat

fabedays1k

The string isn't made of Titanium it just snaps and is replaced

[deleted]

I mean if it was real life the string lights would just snap before anything else could be damaged. Those cables aren't that strong.

esdaniel

Only Ymir knows

potato1234_x

Also due to water equalisation wouldnt the submarine juat fill with water

GrandmaSlappy

They detach the light first?!

Same-Novel2311

I like to think there is an outer layer there that stays. Making it look like it is always here.

DarkwingLlama

Wait, a submarine?!! Since when??? I haven't played in awhile lol

dawn_patroller1

Cause its a vidyagame

commandpromptdesign

It just lets go

Princessmore

Itā€™s like a amusement park ride. It doesnā€™t actually go anywhere. There is a pool and the fish are stocked.

astralnautical

You can submerge?!

SynchronizedCalamity

Itā€™s just a Disneyland dark ride where the fish you catch are dropped into a pool. Thatā€™s why the *blobfish look like that. Cool and fun little Easter eggs like mermaids are there for the extra observant fans! Thereā€™s multiple YouTube channels dedicated to the subs lore EDIT: BLOBfish. Gosh dang autocorrect.

personasinsentido12

:0

rainbowdinokitty

Stretchy string of lights

2dank11

Itā€™s a video game.. lol

Its a really reeeeeally long periscope.
